All the Dead space games are a gem.

  • @shelch
    @shelch Год назад +106

People forget about character development. In the first Dead Space game, Isaac Clarke gets literally thrown into a terrifying situation and perseveres by making use of makeshift weapons, but by the third game he actually KNOWS (as do the players) how to kill these things and is given better weapons (actual weapons) to fight them off. So of course it's not gonna have the same fear factor it had in the first game. Isaac goes from scared and confused to a badass. So the tone of the game is gonna reflect that change. Definitely underrated, but overall one of my favorite trilogies. Best comparison I can give is the character development for Ripley in Alien Vs. Ripley in Aliens.

DEAD SPACE 3 was misunderstood on purpose ... like in every horror franchise, the protagonist is scared and the viewer is scared with him just for the first two chapters ... after that the whole focus of the story is uncovering why is this happening to the world either if it is paranormal or SCi-Fi Horror ... i found DEAD SPACE 3 very interesting with the civilization that created the obelisks and their remnants + the setting and the fact that the game changed enviroments a few times was awesome.

I didn’t play it until last year when I saw it was bumped to 60 fps on XBox. Had heard the hate but honestly I had a great time in that game. It hits the tension and horror the previous games did, it’s just longer so yah there are a bunch of action segments and set piece moments as well. Game holds up with the other 2. This happens a lot with new releases though. People dogpile and it’s only years later we realize the game wasn’t as bad as the reputation it got at launch, mostly by people who never played the game in the first place.

The actual game itself isn’t bad, it’s the juvenile writing that really hurts the game as a whole, mainly in the goofy love triangle with Norton Ellie and issac, and how cartoonishly evil the main bad guy is doesn’t help either.
The game also has awful combat pacing, you’re just constantly having to deal with way more enemies than you can realistically handle by yourself but I imagine that’s because it’s meant to be played in co-op.
The overarching story is pretty cool, but a lot of the character moments fall really short and some of it doesn’t feel earned, it definitely has its moments but there’s a lot of aspects that fall short which is much more noticeable considering the previous 2 were basically air-tight in their writing.

The main problem with Dead Space 3 is the artificial difficulty. It is not that the enemies are hard to kill, but that there are a lot of them and you end up without ammo. You can't advance 20 meters without having an encounter with an enemy. Together with the farming system that does not allow you to craft ammo and medkits that frecuently because resources are really scarse. Not even in the previous games it was like that.

I made a rocket launcher that had both unlimited ammo(didn't have to reload but it wouldn't refill mag to full when emptied) and dealt no splash damage so I wouldn't kill myself by mistake when using it. Which sounds broken.. because it was. I literally laughed because encounters would end so fast even on max difficulty.

DEAD SPACE 3 has always been my favorite game and I would love to see this game get a remake with a few changes to fix some of the problems players like myself had when it first released. enemy numbers was a little on the overkill side but even with that flaw and balancing issues it's still my favorite game from the franchise followed by the first Dead Space. I liked Dead Space 2 but didn't like that a lot of that area's look the same which wasn't the case with Dead Space 3. I really hope EAmotive Studios gets the green light on making the last two games followed by a new entry with Dead Space 4..let's hope all the Dead Space Fans new & old show up on release day to show EA that the Dead Space franchise isn't Dead yet.......

I personally believe that DS3 got way more hate than it deserved. Yes, its the weakest in the series. Yes, it has numerous flaws. But it also has many good things that the haters always conveniently ignore. DS3 has one of the best sections in the entire series when it allows the player to explore a graveyard of derelict spaceships in any order. I also like being able to customize weapons. I totally get some of the complaints, but what annoys me so much is how people focus only on the negatives while completely ignoring the positives.

Dude I fully agree! Every time I see a review of DS3, they keep on ignoring every single positive of the game. They focused way too much on saying “there’s more shooting and the love triangle is annoying”. Yeah the love triangle was annoying but it doesn’t overwhelm the entire story. Exploring the military ruins in space, the snow planet, and the ancient underground city was awesome. I am REALLY mad at EA for shutting down Visceral but at the same time I also blame the overcritical attitude of the fan base.

Dead Space 3 limited your weapons to only 2 slots, which is a definite downgrade from the 2 previous that let you carry 4 weapons and allowed for experimentation.
It introduced crafting and upgrade mechanics (trying to make up for the 2 weapon slot limitation but it's mainly not too interesting or isn't well fleshed out, it gets the job done if you invest in it though).
It introduced ressources and scavenging mechanics (scavenger bots became an addiction for me).
It introduced snow environments and regular soldier fights (again, trying to broaden the scope and invite commercial play for the market back in 2013).
Grpahics are REALLY GOOD, but there are low quality textures if you look too close.
The story continued quite interestingly and by the end I felt accomplished and respectful for the trilogy.
The gameplay is faster but isn't "punchier" like DS1 and 2 (it feels like it needs more impact and punch to it, you never feel like a walking obliterator).
It's much longer than 1 and 2, but there are some grinding and patted out sections.
Enemies are less intimidating and more annoying than scary (they tend to backstab more times than you think and you'll start to get annoyed over and over).
It's not as linear as DS2, it's actually more open like DS1 (on a bigger scale) but more focused and with purpose in some setpieces and no gameplay annoyances (generally speaking).
Optional objectives and introduced as well.
New puzzle solving mechanics are introduced and are generally okay and not too intrusive (except for the electricity balance manager, I hated it).
New enemy types are introduced and they're generally....okay-ish.
I liked it, really I did and I like this trilogy as a whole experience.
Each game has defining traits that are different from the other while all 3 stick to the same essence which is the fight against the necromorphs, and I admire that. Definitely worth a play!

IMHO I do feel that Isaac's personal journey had wrapped up by the end of the second game, so by the time we got to the third one, it was like "Well, what's left to do with the character? Why, put him in a daytime soap love storyline, of course!" I mean, at this stage, he's been through everything else.
Also, I kind of like the idea of discovering the secret origin of the Markers, and it kind of brings the Marker storyline from the previous games to a full circle.
So, is Dead Space 3 a downgrade from its predecessors? Yes, sadly it is, but that in no way makes it a terrible game; it's not the best entry in the franchise, but it's still very playable.

I loved DS3 just as much as the other 2. As someone else here in the comments mentioned already, I love all 3 of them for different reasons. The best thing about 3 was the change of environment, I loved the desolate snowy planet and the parts where you were floating around above the space station. The beginning was such a departure, having combat with human enemies and I absolutely loved discovering about the alien race. The hybrid weapon crafting was really cool also although I have to say the guns feel much less powerful in 3, less impactful and satisfying to use. Other than that, stands up easily with the other 2, I think a lot of people just hate any kind of change and won't give things a chance.

Dead Space 3 is an underrated Gem 😊. Reason being is EA games polluted it with money making schemes like the rest of its acquired IPs. Spoiler Warning!!!!******
You see Isaac as a veteran on a frozen world with PTSD from the previous 2 games and a lost love (one that got away), fighting not only for himself but for the universe.

I love the trilogy for having a nice spectrum starting with horror in the beginning and ending with action. It's a shame that all I see is hate and nothing good about 3 that potentially keeps action horror fans away. Also sad that the series didn't wrap up all neat and tidy with 3 because of that damn cliffhanger ending.

  • @prophetascending9021

As with any trilogy you must try and view the entire body of work as one big story - one with a beginning (Dead Space) a middle (Dead Space 2) and an end (Dead Space 3).
If you look at it like that then, i believe, it stands up.
Perhaps, the third game isn't the best of the three, but it serves its purpose.

most reviews gave it high 7s and 8s. And it's on a 7.8 on metacritic which is pretty good, HOWEVER...in recent years the consensus or perception has definitely changed. I keep seeing games journalists trash it, just today while watching a podcast containing a Calisto Protocol review one of the journalists rolled his eyes and made a snide remark about how bad DS3 is, I watched a list of "most disappointing sequels" and I think DS3 was number one! I keep seeing this strange retconning. Realistically it was a good sequel with a good Co op mode. More of the same, a little to focused on action perhaps. But still very good. Underrated at launch? No. Underrated now? Probably.

If you don't count the DLC, which was a big cliffhanger, it was also a great send-off to Isaac after everything he's been through. Isaac goes from a nobody to a traumatized survivor to finally a hero.

The best word to describe Dead Space 3, for me, is "frustrating", because there is a phenomenal game buried in it's DNA. There are moments when it nearly creeps to the surface, but whether it's the poor writing of the characters, the unsatisfying changes to combat, the OP guns, etc. it always fails to do so. I actually enjoy the game - now that years have passed and my bitterness has waned - but I can't help but be frustrated when thinking on what could have been, and the fact that this was Visceral's last entry in the franchise, which had been stellar up to this point (at least with mainline entries).

The problem with this game was the forced coop. If you didn't have a partner then you lost a fifth or a sixth of the games content.

  • @SoloGamer42
    @SoloGamer42 Год назад

I do think Dead Space 3 is amazing and the only real fault I can find with the game are with the enemies and the content itself. By enemies I feel like they can be very cheap for the majority of the game or up until you get a certain weapon combo that you can really annihilate them with. Late game content gets a lot better with better gear and more options to customize your guns but it says a lot when I dedicate a specific gun to bosses and squads of enemies rushing me. And in regards to the content I did not like how a lot of the content is locked off unless you are playing in co-op mode. I don't think adding an AI partner would fix anything like that but allowing the choice for solo player to play all the content would be very well welcomed in a remake or remaster. Maybe it would even help the coop feel more fun because you could possibly beat it once yourself and then beat it again with a friend and help them with tricks and tips that you found during your playthrough. I'll beat a long time ago with a friend online and I remember fondly that was the most fun I've had in a multiplayer game.

As someone who recently experienced the entire trilogy (I had played a bit of 1 previously, but 2 and 3 were completely blind) and I can say: Yes and no. It... changed a lot of stuff. Suddenly you can't carry 4 weapons anymore, you can get upgrade materials from dead enemies, and those resources, may I say are plentiful however there is also no reason to upgrade and experiment because a maxed out damage plasma cutter will deal the same amount of damage as any other weapon that has max damage stats. It took away the resource management from a survival horror game. And when you take that away from Dead Space, it becomes a lot less horror and a lot more third person shooter with horror elements. The story was good, but how they changed the game was not. I mean, I still had fun with it, but I think it took too much away from what made the previous entries great and terrifying to play.

Many people complained that Dead Space 3 had too much action, but both the first and second games had tons of action. Necromorphs spawned all over the place, and honestly, ammo conservation wasn't that big of a deal since the enemies constantly dropped ammo upon death. You could argue that with 3, they focused too much on action and less on horror. Which they did. But action has always been a part of the franchise. The first two games just balanced the action and horror out a whole lot better.
