5:11 There is still an open gap there leading air to the engine bay, on the left side. You can buy a OEM part which blocks it. Its 5Q0 129 849. By placing that part it lowers the IAT with about 30%, at least from what I have seen in my logs.
It helps lower the engine bay temperature, do you think engineers are dumb? It gets all the cold air it needs from the front of the car, one opening for the intake, the one you refer to for the engine bay. No need to block anything.
@@chiquicat1 I never said the engineers are dumb. Placing that part there lowers the IAT, which is more important (for a little bit better performance). I have done some testing. The engine bay gets barely any hotter. Bare in mind, there is still a huge opening in front of the car. A small hole which is blocked wont make the engine overheat or whatever. Also, there is no reason to have an open duct there, at least in my case. There is literaly nothing behind it which needs to be cooled. So why would I keep it unblocked if I can gain some power by placing an cheap OEM part? When you change the airbox etc. for a R600 for example, you get a different housing with no duct there. With all the MQB airbox mods, you can get similar results.
I don't think it's as much about power as it is about getting more air available to the intake to improve the quality of fuel burn. Not worth it on a stock car, but if you're looking to do a stage 1 tune then it's worth doing beforehand: Replace the OEM tray filter with something a bit better (e.g. K&N) Cut out the area you showed in the air scoop opposite the airbox snorkel Add VAG part #5Q0129849 to blank off the vent hole you showed by the engine. This will force all cool air available from the air scoop to go towards the airbox + prevent the airbox from potentially syphoning warm air out of the engine bay when getting up in the rev range. You can also easily remove that front plastic trim that sits behind the front grill to get more of a ram-air effect. Probably not worth it for the increase in dirt and debris you'd get.
With U.S. models there's a backing plate you can buy for the passenger side of the intake grille and cut the drivers front side out like you talked about, replace the filter with a k&n filter and remove the snow guard. You'll definitely see an improvement in breathing and how the car runs 🐙 👍
It would make some noise difference, but to be honest these cars are really well designed at stock - the engine will only request the air it needs, having an upgraded filter isn’t going to increase power - but once you get in to the realms of Stage 2 and above then an upgraded filter or intake would start seeing you gains
.. i would also like to see the s3 draggy times with all the hardware bolt-on mods strapped on ..and then again with a tune + hardware mods ..it will very interesting to see the differences hardware makes compared to stock parts .
I removed the snow grill in the airbox and opened the closed part on my 2.0TDI. It made a slight difference in throttle response. Dont expect alot from it though. Maybe there will be a bigger difference if you also block the gap on the left side at 5:11 with the part number 5Q0 129 849. And last but not least, mount a airbox-turbo silicone pipe.

Interesting! The car is Stage 3 now so I went with a full forge intake system - handy to know though! Thank you 👌🏻
You mean the part 5Q0 129 849. We also got it here in Europe.
What about a custom air filter? It would increase the airflow a bit better that the paper filter. When I put mine in i did notice a slight difference.

Awesome video bro ! you doing all the tests I wish I had the time to do on my s3 !

Thanks Buddy! Hopefully picking the car up this afternoon after it’s stage 2+ work - more draggy times and tests on the way!
If u want more power put an intake. No snow tray shortcuts
Love your car!!! I just got an A3
Kevin Escobar thanks matey! What A3 do you have? They’re fantastic cars in all trims
Wosa I got a 2016 A3 2.0 Quattro S Line!
Lovely car! That’s what my Wife wanted me to get... I told her this was on offer 😂
I there, I have the same s3 salon and think Audi knows better than us what to do... 🤟💀🥀🏴☠️
Yes indeed! Very well engineered
In the Winter ❄️ you musst to place back the Plastic Frame ?!
I don’t think we have bad enough winter weather here in the UK for it to be a problem
Maybe for canada, but for countries like the UK it wont be an issue.
Do the s3’s have wider wheel arches or are they just the same as the 1.8 and 2.0 tfsi😂? Might be a dumb question but seems like there little wider
Hey I like your video...can you send me a diagram of the settings on your jb4...I have a audi s3 2016..I just install the jb4
Hi matey! I no longer have the JB4 I’m afraid, car went on to stage 3 and was sold a year later
OK thanks...so what you are afraid of..?? The jb4 is not good..that's what you mean
It is just an English expression “sorry I am afraid I don’t have it” etc
Nothing wrong with the JB4 - very good bit of kit!
wosa get a custom exhaust on the s3
I will be looking at this very soon! 👌🏻
Damn woz, you been doin push-ups? 💪
Camera adds 10lbs..
Hi mate, great channel.
Fancy selling the JB4?
jimmyjt16 it will actually be for sale in the next few weeks - including the Bluetooth adapter
@@wosa9461 let me know a price👍
It’s yours for £280 if you want it
@@wosa9461 yeah I'll take it if that's posted😁
Sorted - should be taking it off next week, message me on my insta @woza_S3
What are you using for your draggy mate?
How do you mean Kristian? Do you mean the dragy device itself?
@@wosa9461 yes mate

👍
Wenn are making a new video?
RB Driver the latest video is here - out on track!

Great vid - does this mean you’re a drag racer now?? ;)
You’ve seen days of thunder... right?
Wosa erm. If I say no - am I uncool?
Very.
It will work on Diesel to ? ? ?
Not too sure to be honest, it really didn’t give any benefit I could notice - just a little improvement on the sound
@@wosa9461 Thanks you 😎

Is the car stock at the moment 310bhp?
No - it’s has a JB4 on it at the moment running around 360-370hp
Wosa will be interesting to see the gains stage 2 brings! Are you getting the TCU mapped ?
Yes - full spec is;
Forge front mount intercooler
Scorpion decat downpipe
Forge turbo blanket
Forge turbo muffler delete
Forge large bore boost pipes. (Turbo -Intercooler - inlet)
Forge carbon intake (full)
Stage 2 custom remap & TCU remap
Wosa looking forward to see 0-60 time in the next video 👍
