Audi S3 8V and Volkswagen Golf R MK7 Free Intake Mod - Free Power and Turbo noises
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 17 ноя 2018
- We took the snow guard out of the factory airbox and trimmed part of the intake path to get a clean cool airflow on our Audi S3 8V but this free mod also works on a VW Golf R, Golf GTi and others.

i like how hands on the kid is you can tell hes going to be a big car guy when hes older
He is car mad!
Snow catcher removal. Did it on my MK7 GTi PP and wife’s 2019 Tiguan. Threw in a K&N and cut the front section also. Upgrade the turbo inlet pipe. Makes a big diff. Also wrap the oem air box with gold heat tape. All this will be better than a 3-500$ intake
I thought the same until I bought a aftermarket intake. Unitronic carbon intake is worth all of 500 bucks.
did you cut the holes like how they did in the video as well?
There is a reason why it's designed like so. Left side is to resist water intake to airbox. Cutting hole equals water intake under high speeds.
Air baffle is for leaves obviously, but also provides even flow to all parts of the filter, and stops some water from going directly into filter..
It's free water injection also then :P
And ait turbulence as well
I blocked off the small back chamber in the airbox since it doesn't flow up into the air intake assuming it's made like that for noise reduction. Seemed louder to me I'm happy with it.
Don't forget to block the resonance chamber in the Airbox for nicer sound. Also I'd argue against oiled filters (like K&Ns) for cars with MAFs. The oil might damage the MAF
Can You tell me more about this ? How to block this resonance chamber ?
@@Actimelos there's a small space just unter the intake hose after the filter box that's meant to asborb noise. Many Are 3d printing and selling blocking plates that you can use.
Open the box and remove the filter, then it will be on the top left corner.
Google it, it's widely known I think 👍🏻
what’s the resonance chamber how do you block it
Don't think this gen (EA888) uses a MAF, just MAP so it's not as bad. I prefer to wash it all off and apply a small amount.
hello. about the battery: how many weight reduction did you get ? if i'm not wrong this car uses a 72ah battery, and you put a 60ah , right ?
17kg weight savings. Check out our video with the smallest battery on a friends golf R. ruclips.net/video/oWRARz7PD8U/видео.htmlsi=J1dLXWJ0eUPMPKiL
Cool stuff
A dad teaching his son the important stuff about cars 🤪👍🏼💓
Great video. Great mod to do to any S3 or MK7
Knowing the real benefit would need to be from a before and after dyno pull. Some Golf owners have reported less power with aftermarket intakes over the stock unit.
Open Carry check out this flow bench test where the modified stock airbox flows better than an APR carbon intake. There are lots of good tests on the page too www.mygolfmk7.com/2018/10/apr-intake-airflow-test/
Its crazy mod !more air more power and cooling mod turbo sounds crazy
I’m glad you found the video helpful. Did you see my cooling and turbo noise video?
@@TheEddysGarage yes ı saw like it!
you forgot to buy the left plug from the golf R7. it must be screwed on so as not to catch hot air from the engine side.
It wasn’t available at the time. I suppose I could have used duct tape
Might need to be careful pressure washing the grill area after the mod?
The airbox has a water drain.
I know it's got a drain. That cut out is direct to the airfilter if l'm not mistaken so it'll get wet b4 it drains?
@@sunilraj7692 Nope. I'll try to explain it. Air gets sucked in through the part you opened up, it goes down through a duct (2:32) or whatever you want to name it and then the air goes back up under the airbox to reach the airfilter. Basicaly, you can only get a wet airfilter when you drive through a pool or something.
Just watched the video again. Point taken!
Perfect !!
great video man, wheres the video of the sound test ?
You know that long way to get air to the intake is for better performance and torque with gas mileage routes the air correctly creating easy vacuum to suck air in this will not increase any performance
It’s been proven with logs it does make a positive difference google it it’s nickname is the pikey r600 however when you do this mod you are meant to drop in a plate which covers the original side which was open before a panel filter and turbo elbow aswell
Would you recommend cutting out that trim even with a CAI installed? 🤷♂️
It’s up to you. It will increase the debris that can get to your intake
I heard you have to get a tune for this to work correctly?
Hi, thanks for the vid. Did you remove the grill section infront of the intake component that you cut out? It's the piece that sits behind the grill, on the top row of the grill and blocks the air flowing into the cut out portion of the intake
ToyBoy487 have a look at 3:35 and I think that is the part you are asking about
No, I get that. You cut the intake component that attaches to the airbox. Now have a look at your front grill. The top row is blocked and prevents air from going directly int the part that you cut. Some guys remove that grill piece and cut that out as well so you have direct airflow into the intake.
My issue is removing that piece on the grill on the facelifts. It's easier on the preface lift. That piece that blocks the first row of the grill cam be removed totally so air passes into the intake you just modified. I need help with that grill piece.
ToyBoy487 sorry I’m not sure of the setup on the FL cars.
@@ToyBoy487 I removed it when I fitted a RS3 grille. This is a bumper off job as there are a few screws that must be unscrewed.
Racingline R600
after making this change you need to remap????
No lol
Heey! That’s is for Rain? Because i have a CAI on My car
Sorry but what is ”snow” filter ?
The mesh guard under the air filter. I remove it in the video
Sounds Sounds good?
Kappa 83ts sounds ok but if you want more noise get a turbo muffler delete. But for power do this and get an Inlet Elbow
That awesome is there any noise in the cabin
Also can you feel the extra horse power
Juan Perez there was a little extra noise when we added the inlet elbow and increased response in the upper revs. But it all helps to make more power with a custom tune.
Hi do you have a clip of how this sounds after the install?
kev ng it didn’t come up on the phone unfortunately
@@TheEddysGarage read this for more modification info --- www.remotesystems.com/air-blade-temps
Stephen Fong awesome thanks
Someone help me. I've got a s3 2017 and my rpm is shuddering whilst idling. Drops quite low and car shakes??
Anonymous Bullet any codes when you scan it?
@@TheEddysGarage U112300 and P001100 ??
Anonymous Bullet a quick google search says possible cam shaft sensor or has jumped timing. You need to get it checked out quick and probably shouldn’t drive it. www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/34108-camshaft-timing-error/
Move out the way kid!
i agree I found the kid very annoying and I wouldn't want him near my wings with the top of the airbox and all those screws
I'm sorry to touch a older video, but how will the removal of snow filter affect air filter performance when driving in heavy rain on motorways, behind some lorry/truck that lifts lots of water from the road. If it happens often should i still remove the snow filter? Won't the huge amount of water just get the filter wet, or even get to the intake?
It hardly ever rains here in Australia and with the mod it has similar water/snow protection to every aftermarket intake on the market. If you are worried about it then don't modify that part of your car.
@@TheEddysGarage Australia has every climate zone. Wet Season we get 100mm+ in a day. Down in Tassie in the mountains we got over 100cm snow over the weekend. :P - but yeh reckon the snow removal or the dremel option rather than both if you live in a very wet or snowy area. Both aren't required but do a good job as restricting
won't make any more power, just sound different I can guarantee that this is senseless, anyone that wants to try this put it on a rolling road before and after, then tell me how right I am.
Have a read of some flow bench testing done on the stock and other air intakes and other components mygolfmk7.com/2018/09/stock-airbox-modification/
@@TheEddysGarage don't kid yourself,,the only way to make more power involves port polishing ,and a a remap and chipped up , doing a more intake is just fantasy it's all to do with air-fuel ratio, if yor car gets more air from what your saying then it also needs more fuel, and if you don't get it remapped then its just a waste of time.
Car was tuned with a turbo back exhaust when I sold it. This modified stock intake with an inlet elbow flows enough air to supply the needs of the stock turbo right to were it runs out of efficiency and can still supply enough air for most larger turbo applications.
