    Interesting, I always thought the “upgraded” coil packs were just for show , I always upgraded to them in every car that I’ve owned if it were an option but I didn’t think they ACTUALLY equated to any power gain

    Awsome video, thank you for sharing. . I like the effort, details and results you put in your videos. I've followed a similar path with my Mk7r. By the way, here's something not a lot of owners talk about. Going from stock to stg1 (ic, tbe, air filter mod etc) my oil temps actually rose to about 110-111c on a 30+c day with moderate to aggressive driving. I drove like this for about 10 months. Couldn't figure out why my oil temps were high. Changed plugs, oil, tried to vent air out of the hood etc.. here's when they went down.. stg2 downpipe + stg2 software. Holy shit. Same driving habits, now I see 102-105c oil temps. Car feels amazing. My assumption is the stock dp is pretty restrictive with stg1 software and generates a lot of heat that we can't dissipate affecting oil temps. Not anymore!

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  4 года назад +2

      Reptil3 my temps dropped massively with my RacingLine stage 1 tune. For example my morning drive to the workshop was at the usual 110° and at midday driving home it was 91°. I mentioned it to the guys and they said the newest version of the tune had worked with the electronic thermostat. Even at my last track day it didn’t go over 115° where it used to hit 130°!

    • @Reptil33
      @Reptil33 4 года назад

      @@TheEddysGarage wow! Well that is interesting! I wonder what kind of parameters they program to keep the oil temps down, definitely seems doable since we've both seen positives.

    for what it's worth at one point in time about a decade ago I bought a 2003 Trailblazer with 206k miles on it, for tens of thousands of miles no matter what I did I could never muster more then 16.5 MPG highway, then one day I got a random misfire that went away after shutting the truck off for a few minutes, during those minutes I ordered a set of dirt cheap coil packs on Amazon (because these trucks are known to have random coil failures leaving you stranded), put them in when they arrived a few days later and I could feel the performance difference, this 5,000 pound beast had more pull then I ever remember it having and there is a straight away (55 MPH Speed Limit) where I know quite well what my RPM's are like and it was cruising at 200 RPM lower then normal to maintain the 55 MPH, I was then so impressed I wanted to see how it did in highway mileage, so I took that truck on vacation (the next day) and I averaged 21 MPG on that trip refilling for the last time at the same pump (not just same station, but same pump, because different pumps click off at different points) that the fill up before leaving was done at. It's so refreshing to see someone that actually understands coil packs are a wear item not just something that works or doesn't work.

      If your current coil packs are old then just replacing them with new stock packs would probably make the same difference. You should do your plugs too if they haven’t been done recently. Just get a tune and be done with it. A good tune will transform your car

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  4 года назад +1

      Tom Forde 1st get good tires so you can stick to the road. 2nd brakes, get pads, high temp fluid, rotors if needed and RS3 brake ducts. 3rd front and rear swaybars (rear only at the very least) and a good alignment. That will make a great handling sports car with plenty of go and woah. The DIY intake mod with a high flow filter and eBay inlet elbow (with silicone pipe) will help a bit too and is very cheap to do. Beyond that it depends what you want to do with the car. I have videos on all of this stuff and more.

      @tomforde6558 4 года назад

      The Eddy’s Garage The Eddy’s Garage yeah I know you have great videos which is why I’m asking ya haha. I was planning on front/rear sway bars - rear first. As for brake upgrades I am going to upgrade the (tiny) breaks on my car fully over the winter/fall when I get a second set of wheels and all weather tires. I’m running on continental contisport 235/35 tires (all new under 5k miles on them) right now with the stock 19x8.5’s. The car came from factory with a resonator delete already and I’ve turned the soundaktor off completely. I meant suspension & perfomance in my comment, not solely suspension but I see how that came off now

    That is good info. If you chose a tune that provided for some customization, you may see an addt'l 5%-7% increase of overall power that you are seeing now at the same boost level. However, if you had an upgraded IC you would get that w/o the need for coils....
