From the Archives: A Beautiful Flight

- Highlights from footage I took back in August 2017, to Oconee County, South Carolina, to view the total eclipse. There's something about being above those clouds alone, listening to the lulling drone of the engine... It's pure magic.
Songs: Fleet Foxes. (1) Blue Ridge Mountains. (2) On Another Ocean (January/June).
Wow I love the view.I feel closer to God when I see this. Love the tunes.
The view above the clouds reminds me of a flight from Wayne County to Hatteras about 20 years ago. The forecast called for scattered clouds, but the further east I got the more clouds there were. Eventually there was an almost solid layer of clouds below me.
I saw a hole and spiraled down through it. Everything opened up around 2000 feet. But as I went out across Pamlico Sound the ceiling kept getting lower, and lower, and lower. Eventually I was skimming the water at 200 feet flying through the little wispy clouds (if you can see through it it's not a cloud my instructor always told me).
A few miles from the outer banks the sky opened up and I was able to climb back up to a reasonable altitude before I landed. That was the first flight that actually scared me.

There are some who like to fly ........... but then there are those to whom flying has gotten into them ....... and never left. Just today I went and pulled my Columbia 350 out of the hanger and just had to go to the secret place once again. And then this Christmas Eve i come across your video and I am blessed that I am not alone.

what is that little blue ball or dot on your right side near the end of the video? beautiful video. in the 70's I use to take my grumman tiger to about 12K feet over so cal. this video reminded me of how peaceful that was.
At the 2:30 mark? I think you're seeing the camera glare from the sun.
