  • A quick shop vac hack to show an easy and cheap way to keep your shop vac filters cleaner for longer and prevent you from spending $15-20 replacing filters every few months. I tested this hack over a two year period just to make sure it was safe on the motor.

You are using a water only sponge filter. That filter is not for dust and dirt. A sock will help you out but read the owners Manuel and get the real bus filter for it then place the sock over i

good plan for wet pickup. i totally forgot and was using the foam sleeve on my small stinger unit. it makes such a difference in retaining dust when using the regular kind with the fins. (VF4000 VF 5000 etc. )

Super helpful thank you!!! Mine tends too slide off all together and then blow air all around the room. Not so helpful when I'm trying to pick up sawdust!

The sock works in both cases, but yeah a few have pointed out it’s got the wet filter on it.

is it safe for the filter to wash with water for cleaning?

I think it'd probably damage it, easier to just change. But I've been told the filter in this video is a water filter. The correct filter is probably much more likely to be damaged by water.

Since that foam filter is for water and wet cleanup, washing it is actually the way to clean it. He is using it as a dry/dust filter, which is WRONG

On the Shop Vac sight, they say their Type U filters are both wet and dry, so you can spray wash them--just make sure they're fully dry b4 using again. The more expensive filters are progressively easier tyo wash, per SVac.
Double check, but that's specifically OEM

You call that old? I'm looking for filters for a pre 88 Craftsman, for the 'blue stripe' filters. Not available.
