When I’m using the shop vac for dry debris I always use a HEPA filter because the standard filters let so much fine particles through it’s a health risk. I also as well use a vacuum bag so I can take it out and throw it in the trash and not dump it and get dust floating everywhere. It’ll prolong your HEPA air filters life for a long time, and to make it last for years longer I use a HEPA pre filter bag cover that is washable and reusable. It slides over the HEPA air filter and insures that it’s even safer on your lungs by double protection. My vacuum is still in pristine condition after years of use on jobsites and when cleaning my truck. Another mod I did to my vacuums was remove those crappy plastic wheels and put some nice rubber casters in so it won’t damage hardwood floors and it’s so much nicer when rolling it around. I just got some drill bits and widened the holes for the casters to fit perfectly snug and epoxied them in. Even on my small shop vac that has the larger wheels in the back, I popped those off and put on some 5” rubber wheels from Harbor Freight. I appreciate your channel for giving me pointers to clean and detail my truck and what products to use and stay away from. Thanks!
You selling HEPA filters? lol. Well I use the save money and don't breath method when banging out the filter in the half lid closed garbage can. But if the muffler here can also screen debris, then maybe I need to get one. Would be nice to have a larger surface area on that muffler I wouldn't want to cut down on suction more than necessary.
I worked for 2 1/2 years in body shop detailing cars , I used a rigid vacuum cleaner and never changed the filters, just blew em off every week, you know the boss was cheap, but also I don’t think you need to change em too often 👍👍😎
SuperVac! A few years ago I actually got a pool filter (on seasonal clearance) for my shop vac. It was cheaper than the correct filter. Far cheaper than the recommended wet filter. And it is an upgrade that has lasted and performed better.
About 17yrs ago I installed a 5HP Clearvue cyclone for my woodshop and liked it so much that I purchased a small cyclone seperator for my shop*vac. It does a fantastic job of all but completely eliminating anything getting into the vacuum canister. Whenever I vac the cars, I use that. Very rarely do I have to clean (tedious) the vacuum filter.
I have a Dustopper that I got from Home Depot that does a good job too. It goes on a 5 gallon bucket. Adding a filter bag to the main vacuum means I never have to clean/ change the filter in the vacuum.
Great video. Unfortunately I’m going to have to unsubscribe at some point. Every Tuesday and Friday I’m convinced I can’t live without more toys. I need a 6 stall garage……..
Ha me too, we’ve been looking at buying a new home in some outskirts areas of San Diego and one of them has a 3 car garage with an additional 1500sq garage detached…. It could hold 10 cars probably. I might be able to afford the house but I can’t afford the toys I would want to fill it
The idea to use a pool skimmer sock is great! I never would've thought to try that. Thanks for continuing to produce these fantastic videos with awesome tips!!!
My top 5 are very different 5 vacuum bags 4. Wall wrack for hanging hoses and nosals 3. filter bags 2. push handle 1. automatic off switch when using it as a dusk collector with other power tools. Sorry I forget what's actually called.
I need a vacuum with no spray out from exhaust. Does the noise supressor / diffuser with a sock over it stop fine mist from going out the exhaust when vacuuming super clean wallpapered homes/ condos - during marble work (!) . No you can not splash walls ...lol.
A great way to save your filter is two large rubber bands and two paper towel sheets. Rap around paper towel over the filter, hold in place with rubber bands. Every time you dump the vacuum cleaner, put on new paper towels. No need of expensive bags. Also put a deflector on the inside of the vacuum cleaner. So trash doesn't go straight to the filter.
If you're worried about filter efficiency, I would recommend going with high efficiency filters and Ridgid for its larger machines makes a "cyclonic" bag and HEPA cartridge kit. Yes, it is expensive but if you are really worried about picking up fine powders or soot and ash from cigarette trays, that's the way to go. That being said, make sure the ash has cooled off or you may have a fire on your hands. The exhaust muffler does bring the noise down significantly as that's about 2-3x quieter than without. Please remember though that the muffler is not intended to be a filter, but can be pulled apart and washed.
I've seen one other video you did and both are done with very good production qualities. I found this video because I'm tired of the cheap plastic hoses that come with the Ridgid vacs. Not only are they too stiff, but dragging them anywhere they always rub on my legs because they're so stiff, to the point that they're really a bummer to use. I searched for a quality hose that was much more flexible and apparently it's this one. I'll get a similar product in the 1-7/8ths side from Home Depot. Fingers crossed it works for me - seems like it's got the adapters I need. Thanks so much for this video!
While the muffler does cut noise and that alone is worth it, it won’t do much if anything for catching the particles the filter doesn’t. It’s a more open pore sponge if you will that has bigger holes for air flow than the way smaller pore filter. If it gets through the filter better believe it’s getting through the muffler.
The mufflers are not filters in any way. It simply diffuses the air blowing out of the vacuum so it won’t stir up dust and dirt around it. To prevent dust, always use a bag and a hepa filter.
The rigid filters are washable, and are almost infinitely cost efficient...Buy a 2 pack and when one is dirty wash it and set it out to dry. They last for years if you don't wash it with a pressure washer or jet nozzle.
i have used an old shirt sleave as my prefilter for 20+ years. im sure it lets more dirt through then the actual prefilter but that only makes my filter last an extra year not 2 or 3 years
ANOTHER Great vid!! I'm really finding your vids to be super helpful!! I have that same Ridgid shop vac. I've seen ppl wrapping paper towels around their filter to catch those really fine particles and they're super inexpensive. They secure them with either velcro straps or rubber bands.
I never thought about a pre filter but its genius, makes sense to help. I really enjoy what you show us here its a great value and pays for itself almost instantly. I am kind of hoping to find a shop vac that has like a 3+inch diameter hose vs the standard 2.5". When vacuuming up large debris it can often get jammed it would be nice to have something a bit heavier duty that wasn't permanently part of a truck. (yayaya I could also sweep first but what's the fun in that!)
Periodically spray spray the plastic/rubber Hoses/flexible crevice tool with a little armoral and allowed to penetrate for a few minutes to help Resist cracking. I know most detailors absolutely hate armoral but it works great on applications like this.
The congestion is real. I have the same thing too bro. Hope you get better soon. This is pretty cool. I have a Ferex vac that looks very similar to a Hart w/d vac. Great vid man!
All you gotta do is toss your filter in the air so it spins a bunch, and when I comes down a nice big cloud puffs out and the majority is clean then finish with an air hose from your compressor. Clean and free filter because you already own it!
I donno if that muffler is much of a filter. It looks the same as the wet filter Ridgid sells. I have one too, but for me it's more about not having the vac blast things off the table or kick up dust from surfaces. I recommend the Ridgid HEPA kit for fine sawdust though! And a cyclone separator.
How could you connect the water hose line inside without having to use their hose or modifying a sink or shower source? Like if I am doing a clients sofa and need a water source?
Would of like to see the Milwaukee accessory that the tip tilts to vaccum areas above/ hard to reach , I just purchased it at my homedepot to vaccum the lights at my job .
Holy crap! I just saw the promo video for that milwaukee tool. Definitely picking that up! Freaking love milwaukee tools! Josh please stop with the videos Your making me spend all my money 😅 You put us on to so many great products 🙏🏾
Great product showcase on the vaccuum filter options, however, you made it seem like you always have to replace them. I just tap mine to shake the big stuff off, then blow it with compressed air and then it’s good to go. In my experience you can do this many many (almost infinitely) times before you necessarily have to replace anything.
That’s a good point, if you maintain them you can get some extra life out of them. I personally forget to maintain it till it starts showing suction loss and by that time my filter is pretty dead
HI Josh maybe you can try to answer aquestion for me please I assume the muffler will not drop sound level but some one suggested something like a pvc tube with a wet foam filter taped to the outlet side if I have a pbc and also put a foam filter in it both taped as the poormans muffler any ideas please thank you ???
I would get the ridgid car kit I'd get the pro hose so you don't have the tiny hose end and can use the orginal attachments. Also the simple fix for a loud shop vac is buy a dewalt stealthsonic lmao. The blue bag thing is a standard filter for those bucket vacs
The blue bags are just universal filters as you said. But using them as a pre filter gives a much cheaper option to prolong your actual filter! You know ive never seen that stealth sonic unit.. Thanks so much Im going to order one!!
great video. can't thank you enough!! i'm going to buy the 3 gallon rigid. I was "thinking" about getting a cordless, but i think i'm better off with a cord. i was confused about getting the longer orange hose. did you say it would not fit??? because, that does sound like a smart attachment. lmk. and, i like that tube from makita. i will get that too
Very timely. I got a Ridgid wet dry vac a couple months ago.. with the upgrade hose/accessory kit. I wish there was a crevice tool with a brush that fits this vac. I've looked.
Hi, thanks a lot for all these videos. Really loving your channel and subscribed as well. I also started detailing of my own car following your + DIY Detail channel. Question, have you made a video on Dewalt Dry/wet vac accessories? or these also work with Dewalt vaccum we get in Costco?
You have to buy the kit if you buy a Rigid because it only comes with one small claw tool, but you would be better off buying the Vacmaster Professional for $99 or the CRAFTSMAN 5hp 5gal for $129 because both come with lots of accessories and are ranked 1 & 2 by Vacuum Wars.
I bought the upgraded crush proof hose and I've had nothing but issues with it.... The nozzle literally popped off of the hose and didn't want to go back on. Then it just keeps popping off. I believe I've got a defective one since everyone says they are great
Man what great timing for this clip, as always Friggen love the content, and your reviews. I’m def grabbing that Milwaukee extension and extractor accessory. Stay well friend, keep the clips rolling! Salute from back east NC!
Hi very helpful vids you have thanks....a question... do you know if there are any wet vacs that can drain at same time as you are sucking up. I know there are big commercial ones but i need a normal size but im not sure they exist. I am a plumber and I have to work on live water pipes sometimes and the wet vac would fill up quickly so is there any way i could even modify it so it can drain at same time, with a pump connection or something or even if it could drain just without a pump through a hose maybe (slower than it sucks obviously) that would even be very helpful... I have been researching and I cannot find anything. If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate. I hope this makes sense. Thank you
Ridged accessories wont work with every wet/ dry vac. For my car i made an crevice tool out of a reducer and 1” clear vinyl hose which is about 2’ in length i do use a crevice tool at times BUT the hose is more versatile and flexible.
That filter you show, is it not a washable one? I have a smaller rigid as well, and I have 2 washable filters, same blue with rubber all around it. If it's not washable do go get washable, they cost more, but you wont continue to buy later.
Hey Josh! Another great video! Should you remove the shop vac filter if using the extractor tool with a standard shop vac? I'm pretty sure you're supposed to if using one to suck up liquid spills. Thanks!
@IMJOSHV, that Ridgid hose is there an adapter so that I can use this with my shop vac brand vacuum? Mine has the twist to lock. My smaller craftsman has that Ridgid snap adapter. Would love this for my Shop Vac for my detailing. Thanks and keep up the videos.
thats a tough one. I think the add on delivers more suction, but i personally would want a seperate vac for it so i didnt need to swap it out all the time. so all in it would be around $300... the Bissell is much cheaper but is very limited on what you can do with it. Id proabably set up a dedicated vacuum for the add on kit as long as you will always have a water source near by.
I know you are a practical detailer. What do you think of using the blower feature on the Rigid shop vac to blow out water from grills and small areas of the car?
The only reason I dont do that is cause it could blow out debris that was sucked in to the vacuum previously. But if it’s totally clean then that’s a great option. I actually have a 16gallon that I keep in my shop that has blower attachment that you can pull off and use separately

You California sissy
RIDGID vacuum cleaners have a Lifetime Warranty. I use shooting muffs when vacuuming my car, using a steamer or using a D/A polisher on my car.
thats a great idea! Keep those ears safe
lifetime service warranty not lifetime warranty they will fix the vacuum instead of replacing the whole thing

Yup. I'm right with ya.

I got the Rigid detailer kit for Christmas! Now I just got to take back the smaller Rigid vac for the 4 gal 5 hp!
Have a great New Year and take care of that cold!! Great stuff as always.
Thanks and same to you! I’m resting as much as I can to kick this cold
I purchased some washable filters at Home Depot years ago and I really like them. They've held up well.
What about the foam sleeve for wet pickup? I think it's very important if sucking debree from a home air conditioner drain

I saw the Ridgid hose in a 2" size at my local Home Depot. The exhaust muffler makes a big difference in the sound level.
Does muffler stop fine spray out the exhaust also ?
@@robertscorpio8432 I have never seen anything out the exhaust, maybe because I use paper collection bags.

I do like that filter sock versus the bag. I try to check my debris in vacuum as sometime it Sucks up hidden coins, ear rings, under the seats!
I’ve used the clear tubes to clean out a water heater after removing the bottom element.

Use either a one gallon paint filter or pool scum filter. Both work great to reduce the filter replacement cycle.
Very informative video Josh. I liked when you slapped yourself in the face with the hose. Good stuff for sure!
Haha thanks
Slapping very aggressive drivers with the hose - unfortunately , is not legal ....😂

Does the muffler fit on the Propack style vacs (either the 4.5gln or the 3gln)?
Link for extractor shows no longer available. Have another link for it by any chance?
smooth bore hose?
Hey Josh! Another great video! Should you remove the shop vac filter if using the extractor tool with a standard shop vac? I'm pretty sure you're supposed to if using one to suck up liquid spills. Thanks!
Yeah absolutley. Youd want to change the a wet filter
If you're using the cyclone you don't need to
Pool filter socks work awesome
Perfect!
Good stuff! Will that Ridgid kit’s hose (2 1/2 end) connect up to a shop vac 2 1/2”
Going from 78 to 68 decibels is huge....it represents a 10 fold decrease in sound pressure.
Yea it’s significantly louder.
the rubber cracks from the constant moving air and dirt drying out the plastic. condition it, with literally anything. I use car wax
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. GBU
Most of the Ridgid filters are washable
Great video! Could you possibly show the extractor kit in use?
Absolutely full video on Just that coming soon!
Can you run water through the filter? Or should I take it off?
Take off the filter. Get the foam filter for water pickup.
Josh, do you have a color code system 4ur microfiber towels
Typically yea but i dont hold to it exclusively if the towels are new. But usually, ill go blue exterior, grey interior, black windows
One last question, is the rip clean / Shop vac setup as powerful as a Bissell spot clean pro
much more powerful than the bissel as long as you use a good shop vac!
Would you recommend the extractor add on or a Bissell portable carpet cleaner, if you could only have one?
thats a tough one.
If you use bag insert filter why even use the round Rigid filter?
I know you are a practical detailer. What do you think of using the blower feature on the Rigid shop vac to blow out water from grills and small areas of the car?
The only reason I dont do that is cause it could blow out debris that was sucked in to the vacuum previously. But if it’s totally clean then that’s a great option. I actually have a 16gallon that I keep in my shop that has blower attachment that you can pull off and use separately
Another practical vid!
Awesome video
Thanks!
Will the hose upgrade fit the Hart 3 in 1?
Thanks! And thanks for no annoying intro reel.
haha youre welcome
You want a nilfisk dust extraction machine.
Anyone use the ridged hose on a craftsman vacuum ? Will it fit
