back in the days, we called it Air Inches.
BMO Group is planning to purchase Air Miles programs.
The cash vs dream split was what killed it
AGREED
I disagree. The cash option was the only thing that made Air Miles useful at all. The dream miles were so devalued that they were completely useless for travel, especially since they would expire before you could earn enough to do go anywhere.
@@smallmj2886 I think you're missing the point. You think it was okay for them to just say "fuck it" on the dream miles and start an alternative points system?
@@nonsensechannel182 My point is that the dream miles had already become so completely useless for redemption that I was glad to get the cash alternative. The fact that you couldn't transfer was frustrating, but I would rather get $10 off groceries than $0 savings on flights.
Air Miles shot themselves in the foot, this failure is all on them. I’m still bitter from being forced to redeem all my Air Miles in 2016 before the gov’t forced them to backtrack on expiring points. I stopped using Air Miles after that, focused on other loyalty points and haven’t looked back.
I 'bought' useless trinkets in 2016. What a pathetic organization
No loss, that program was the hardest to gain. Points and the partners they had when they were in their prime suck. Long live aeroplan! Even if you can't redeem for flights there are so many more options to make use of the points there.
I had airmiles for a minute, used it for shell and redeeming for gas, but quickly realized it was a really bad program in terms of ROI so ditched it
It’s only value for me has been for gas at Shell but damn it’s so hard to just get general pts. Almost jumped on the recent BMO Air Miles promotions but aside from gas it was so hard to see other uses. Dream/Cash split is terrible too.
i travelled to europe 8X for 2 free
When I looked into airmiles it just wasn't attractive enough. I don't know what these millions of Canadaians were looking at...
Good work Ricky...very informative
I loved Air Miles. It took only 10 years of earning points. Finally had enough points to get a no name Bluetooth speaker. Woohoo.
This message brought to you by the cool kids at Aeroplan. 😆
As a loyalty program they suck. Customer service was non-existent, and the partners dwindled to just about nothing. I'm glad I spent my 6000 points in November. I could see the writing on the wall
Your points are good
Well said very well done , I am not canadian … I enjoy your reviews and vicariously enjoy first class flights
I stopped going to shell because I don't like paying more for gas than every other gas station. If I know I'll be heading to a certain area that I know has cheap gas I will put 10 or 15 dollars in to last until I go there. Otherwise I go to Costco. Either way I save 8 to 12 cents a liter.
Get your facts right: It’s not bankrupt, it’s in creditor protection (yes, there is a difference) and in all likelihood miles will for the indefinite future still be worth the same as they were last week.
Oh darn! I never managed to save up and get that first class ticket from Scarborough to Mississauga!
I was about 100 years away from reaching my goal! 😅😂😅😂😅
The airmiles name has been so tainted that I have a feeling it might be rebranded.
BMOiles? :)
Air Miles is split into cash and dream, which is why is it not good anymore
they created that split when they cash was introduced to keep collectors from cashing out worthless dream miles, like forget about them & start earning cash miles. Whoever at Air miles decided that Dream miles cant be spent like cash is an idiot It seems like its forcing all collectors to go online to manage their acct
Now Air Miles downgrades further value of points: hotels rooms charged per person not by room
I collect for travelling purposes. Going to the Caribbean for half price or almost completely free is awesome. Love and will keep supporting it
I remember them from that marketplace investigation
I just ordered a coffee maker just now. BMO took it over.
great content and hair.
Debt servicing cost went up at an unexpected rate. If it wasn't for that they would've been fine
Air Miles was the worst rewards program in Canada. Aeroplan for the win
I don't see many places left to earn Air Miles. Some gas stations, but not much else. I guess they could transition to be the main BMO rewards system, but other than that they became irrelevant when they lost their grocery partners.
Metro/Loblaws still gives air miles
@@JillM1000 Metro only exists in Central Canada, and Loblaws give PC Optimium points (at least where I live).
@@smallmj2886 oh, I see, good to know, there's a metro where I live now, but not where I'm moving to. Thanks.
I wanted a Roomba, they offered it online, and then 6 months later when i got enough points, they stopped offering the Roomba, and offered Roomba knockoff. How can i earn and burn when airmiles is run by Bozos.
Aeroplan is devalued their points over the years.
Looking forward to see What & How BMO will revive AirMiles - a rebrand? - will they simply turn it into a points card like RBC - Avion? No doubt AirMiles lost its appeal years ago
Problem is I don't bank with RBC or use any of their credit cards so now I'm wondering if I should spend my Air Miles before its too late
BMO and Air Miles: Dumb and Dumber
But then you see the new scene card and realize you don't even get 1 point per $ unless you get a new banks credit card or purchase what the store is having extra of. So dissapointed Safeway got rid of airmiles, guess I'll shop at different stores now which have better loyalty.
Alaska deval today as well
Good by dear prince
Airmiles in Canada is a joke...it took me almost like 8 years to buy a blender.
Even Shoppers Drugmart's point has more value than Air Miles. Good luck BMO, you bought a dead fish.
Well, like the RUclipsr said, bmo has many airmiles branded cards. It won’t look good to the bank if they go under. BMO probably paid chump change to buy it.
This 10M collector figures are super inflated. Most are like me has the card left in the drawer forgotten.
Do you think we see killer BMO airmiles cards come out? BMO pushes bmo rewards now so will they pivot?
Had BMO AIR MILES REWARD FOR YEARS ..BACK IN THE DAY... BELIEVED IT WENT UNDER. Long time ago... filed card in the garage.... since
Good that I never got into air miles
any new updates since 2 months ago?
We need a checking account video my boy
Use Tangerine or Simplii, that's all you need
@@caseymoney EQ Bank.
@@Varekai0723 EQ isn't bad and pays better rates in a HISA than the big 5 but still not competitive with others like Saven. Also EQ is more of a savings than a chequing
Trying to book a flight to Vancouver in the summer. Is it better to straight up use my amex/air miles point or should I convert them into aeroplan points and then redeem them?
I've been trying to book flights online using the amex platform and it says I'll need to pay 40,000 points + 157$ for 2 people? What is up with that? It's even worse for air miles at 257$ for 2 people.
Please help a travel noob out
aeroplan costs too much
@@torontoterry that's good to know. What's up with extra charges though? Like I thought if I use my points, I wouldn't have to pay for my airplane ticket?
on this years trip because i have mc world elite my ticket cost is 25% less miles was totally paid by air miles. My other card, Amex has a companion credit of 1700 air miles added to the balance that paid for her ticket minus the taxes of 500$ but a big saving of$3,000
Air miles is still there BMO bought them
I could be wrong but i don't think they got a taxpayer subsidy to stay afloat like Air Canada/Aeroplan did. Free-market companies can't compete with essentially an indomitable cash-pinata, that is the taxpayer subsidy.
Is RBC Avion good?
Look at sky miles
Amen 0:29
No it’s not!
Actually, the 7-year expiration policy was first announced in 2009.
I'm only sorry that so many rebel idiots pleaded ignorance to that long-announced change.
Air Miles is a loyalty program where only its members have remained loyal. I have collected many tens of thousands of miles over my many, many years of being loyal and making it my business to patronize Air Mile's partners for a specific reason only to be stabbed in the back by this thoughtless, careless and incompetently led disloyal loyalty program. This piece of crap program is not what I or anyone else signed up for. I have yet to look into what the Scene Program has to offer but it has GOT to be better than the giant turd air miles has become.
I gave upon Airmiles years ago.
Air miles loyalty program is a joke! I dropped them many years ago!
Nontheybare not bankruptcy thenparent company went bankruptc airmiles is alive either no changed andnis being bought by bmo
Cash is king
