Just watched this (Feb 2021) and enjoyed it. I have both a heavily modified 2WD slash, and just recently added a Slash Ultimate to the stable, and I have to say that the 1/10th scale Slash platform is just wicked fun to drive, easy to maintain, and when I put myself into my 8 year old, who really really wanted an RC car (that would be 1973) persona, I can't help but grin ear to ear. There is a reason that after 13ish years, Traxxas still sells a lot of these cars, and that reason is they are inexpensive, a good starting point for projects, and dirt cheap to maintain, while still being thrilling to drive.
I just got into rc cars this summer (2023), and i started with this exact model. I love it, Its easy to use, and if needed easy to fix. Parts are available and it is a great way to learn the rc basics. I changed out the shocks and thats it, after 6 months of newbie bashing.

I can definitely say that with a Lipo battery, that truck will get to 30 quick as hell If you're using the NiMh battery that it comes with, the run time is poor and it definitely leaves a little to be desired in the power range But with a 2s or 2s lipo, it is 1000% worth every penny And the aftermarket and replacement parts on these are literally EVERYWHERE and they are cheap as fuck I replaced the brush motor in 10 minutes and only spent $25.
@@michaelmoss1944 did you break your engine in water bc I did thinking the engine is waterproof. All around this truck is good running 3s now with multiple cooling fans. Very fun
@@Kahne-yy3vq yes its waterproof but if you do not properly clean the engine with compressed air after, rust will occur and begin to bind the brushings Sand was what destroyed mine.
The body is definitely a cool scheme, this ones great for beginners or kids, this ones gonna be under the Xmas tree for a lot of people this year, as long as ur not on the naughty list 🤣
I think Traxxas has covered almost every angle of vehicle when it comes to bashing....brushed or brushless. They really do have it covered. Nice driving at the track.

Yesterday I purchased the "New" Ultimate 4x4 through Traxxas directly. I spent just under $1k. When cashing out they asked where I heard about the vehicle (I put in your website name)...I've know about it for awhile while I contemplated what I was going to buy. I've watched tons of videos and read lots of reviews on all kinds of RC's, I ultimately came up with that one and you had alot to do with it, that being said, thank you and I hope you get a little kick back from them. Can't wait for it to come.

I have this one and its a beast made it brusshless and its fair to say that this is the best budget traxxas tough car that there is if you upgrade de schocks to alluminium I recommend this car and even brushed its a fast monster
We have talking about having stock class for these at our local track. It would be an inexpensive way for people to get started racing, plus anyone that want to join in would be on an even playing field.
Bought this bad boy not realizing the vxl had some beefier components in it. Switched out to the Max10 and realized there's about $115 worth of parts differences between the two to enable it to handle power. 😂 Looks like I have some work to do! Shame you didn't mention the differences.
You can get a cheaper version now with no battery or charger included... Got one for my kid, who is only 4 but pretty good with RC stuff. Put it in training mode and it is perfect for him. Goes nice and steady through the grass without getting stuck. 2wd Slash won't do that in training mode. I put in a 5000 mah 2s LiPo 9 (in LiPo safe mode) and it lasts forever.
I'd suggest instead of paying 320$ for this go with the Arrma senton blx 4x4 BRUSHLESS for 300$ It's not even a comparison. Unless of course it's for a kid but then you could go with the brushed version for much cheaper than 320$.
Some people like wasting money, and if they have to have a brushed and don't want a brushless then the losi tenacity brushed is better. This brushed slash 4x4 at 320$ has no place in the hobby right now it's an overpriced, outdated POS, totally agree with you.

Seriously lol way overpriced just because it's 4x4 so one more plastic driveshaft and differential equals 150$ extra on the 2wd version, you can get the 2wd for 180$ so to me the 4x4 brushed should be around 230$ not 320$ that's insane.

That's Traxxas's way of forcing customers to pay even more for a regular NiMH Charger. Steer clear of Traxxas. *Go for Arrma. Arrma is Tougher, Cheaper, Faster, offers grater support and value for your money.*

It's doesn't get an aarma traxxas is outdated and been using the same damn design on the slash for 15+ years and you will replace every part on a Slash so just spend the extra money and get a good brand.

Being perty new to the RC hobby I bought a 2wd slash. I gotta say I am SO disappointed in it! I've ran about 12 pack's threw it and I blew the shock caps off several times, destroyed one shock, burnt up a motor, broke the body, and stripped two spur gears. Put a new motor and spur in it, drove it about 20 minutes and now something else in the drive train is slipping/stripped. I'm so disgusted with it it's just sat on the shelf now for about a month, idk if I even want to invest any more money into it tbh.😥😥😫
Thomas Gross hey I hear ya. Can be a bit frustrating but the rc hobbie is a learning experience. All the problems u are having are quite normal. I have 3 slashes at home all 2wd. They have been through a lot. U will not find a better supported truck than your slash. The issue with the motor burning up you may be setting the spur and pinion gear to tight witch will make the motor overheat. I see this all the time. Try to hang in there and use this as a learning curve. I have made the same mistakes. But I love this hobbie!!

Thomas Gross i had the same problem with mine 1st rc. I had the stampede 4x4 vxl. I had the same problems. Stripped severel spurrs (do to the lack of experience). Always having a problem with the drive train and you name it i had it. Anyway i sold the truck and 3 years later and a lot of more experience i bought the truck again. Never had a problem with the stock truck. I upgraded the vxl system in a mxl6s esc en castle 2650kv motor and on 4s i shredded the plastic driveshafst. So i upgrade those drive shafts into mip. Never had one problem with the truck. So keep the hobby alive and enjoy. Its a learning curve. And yes it cost a lot of money but when you at a level en understand how to drive. You can have a lot of fun with this hobby. Give it a change!

More Traxxas cheap plastic/ old design rc vehicle. They are overpriced and overrated. Want a good rc entry level car? Well, as an example you can achieve a Carisma M10Sc or Db for just 160 bucks and they come with waterproof brushless system installed, full ball bearings, oil shocks, slipper clutch, metal differential gears and ALUMINIUM CHASSIS . All around a much better rc car.
And when the Carisma breaks as all RC cars do, good look getting replacement parts for it. You can't compare Carisma to Traxxas... Not even in the same league at all. Arrma is a better comparison to Traxxas.

I have this exact one and I've put it through absolute HELL for the last year or so, only had to spend $25 on a new motor and that's it.

You should glue some rubber o rings above and below the body mount holes to reduce all that body bounce. (noticed a lot of body bounce noise)
