Great location and image John .. as always. Loved your thoughts on shooting available subjects at different times of year. It's so easy to get sucked into the galactic core vortex isn't it ..!!!
Wonderful result and fantastic way to find something unique! I am super happy the video popped up on my list, looking forward to more for yourself 😄 Cheers
Cracking image John! Love the idea of tilting the mindset of feeling like you have to recapture iconic shots. Love the dedication, reckon I would have just struck this one off the list based on light pollution. We are pretty spoilt for skies once you clear the metropolitan areas.
Love this, John. Beautiful image, and weirdly I think the light pollution, and definitely the cloud, adds to it. In the UK we struggle to get the core high enough above the murk on the horizon, so finding alternative compositions is super helpful. Great video as always. 👍
Wounderful video John and great image, absolutely love your thoughts on using other bits of the sky. As well as giving me flashbacks to the days I lived in Newie many years ago. 😂
@@johnrutterphotography quite a lot, but well before I was into nightscapes (actually was pre digital when I lived there), visited a few times to do landscape stuff in recent times when I am over, it is a beautiful spot, but generally crawling with photographers 😂.
@johnrutterphotography a a young kid I was a member of the YMCA, our camp (Crangan Bay) was on lake macquarie opposite catherine over the highway this was 1965ish The Milky Way, all the stars were very bright.
I grew up in Sydney….why haven’t I heard of this place? Another great video John, getting out of your comfort zone and showing us how to get great alternative compositions. Well done!
Thanks mate, I'm not sure how you haven't heard about it.... everyone else in Sydney has and are normally imaging the core there 🤣. Your most welcome 🙏
Top result John considering all of the haze and light pollution at Catherine Hill Bay. When the core is up, every man and his dog are there for a shoot, so changing it up to shoot at a non core time is a good move. Orion and the Gum Nebula with the Summer Milky Way is definitely on my shooting agenda over the next few months. 😁👍😎
Great work as always. Good to see your take on one of the spots I have tried to deal with the light pollution myself ( as i go back deleteing my images...... lol)
Hahaa it's definitely a challenging place to shoot these days, so much light around. It definitely took all of my experience to manage to pull off an image there.
The flip-flops guy did it again! Very nice image John, fantastic composition woth the jetty framing orion. I really like it, it is very different and original composition. And great details BTW, did you use the narrowband filter?
It's funny you've made this because this week I was working on a project doing the exact same thing with orion. It kinda fell to pieces at the last second due to the fact I was borrowing gear, although it's probably been done many times, I think this may be only the 3rd image like it ever created from this location
I agree! I have been testing stacking each panel at 24mm rather than doing singles at 40mm to see if there is much difference, by stacking with a wider angle it takes about the same time as singles with the 40mm, so essentially I'm swapping resolution for integration time.
Currently the gti is setup for a bit longer focal length with computer control at home, I'm just lucky I have a few trackers to use, if I only had 1 the gti would be it

Cheers Richard 🍻 it certainly is easy to forget to visit familiar locations at different times of the year and only think about the core
Yet another great video John, with plenty of food for thought. What a beautiful image you ended with ....WOW! 😍
Thanks mate! Really appreciate it mate 👍
Amazing final result as usual. Love your explanation and process as well. Thanks for making these!
Thanks mate, my pleasure 👍
Fabulous image John well worth your effort.Orion looking beautiful
Thankyou 👍 orion is stunning isn't it!

Thanks mate, 👍 the lights are alot worse now then when I was there last, but I agree, there are way better places to go for milkyway then there
Hey John, great video, as a local to Sydney I've shot this location a few times for sunrise and MW, but this really was inspiring thank you
Cheers Paul 🍻 glad it inspired you a bit 👍
Great video and spectacular captures, thank you for sharing 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌌

Thanks mate, I tend to agree about the clouds, hopefully it helps give you ideas for the winter time there
Wounderful video John and great image, absolutely love your thoughts on using other bits of the sky. As well as giving me flashbacks to the days I lived in Newie many years ago. 😂
Thanks mate 👍 did you ever go to Catherine Hill Bay back when you lived in Newcastle?

Great shots, the sky there was darker around 30 years ago.
I could imagine, would of been a great sky back the

Great shot! can i ask where did you get your camera modified?
Thanks mate, I have used camera clinic in AUS and spencers camera in the states for my cameras
Great image and love it

Look forward to seeing some summer images from you in the coming months

nice work mate and loved the Jandals! Just made me want to break out a beer and bbq by the beach. Thanks for sharing
Thanks mate! Now u have me thinking about beers and BBQ 🤣🍻🥩
Catherine Hill love the place.ive seen coal ships there, i was very young
That would of been quite the site to see!! It's hard for me to imagine ships getting loaded there

Hahah finally found their intended purpose 🩴🩴.
Thanks mate, I'm overall pleased I got an image there.
Yea I added about 15 mins of Ha data
Wow what a great shot John, well done.😍💕👍
Thanks 👍

Ahh awesome 👌 it's the perfect time of year to be getting creative with orion!
Great video John, I've shot this jetty many times, the light pollution is definitely a challenge, you've done a great job considering.
Thanks so much, I was surprised at how bad the lights are now, it's been a long time since I've imaged there
I'd take Orion over MW core every time :D. BTW why have you moved away from shooting the sky with 40mm?
I agree!

Welcome to the world of lightpollution John! 😄. You still managed to pull off a great image man.
Thanks mate 👍, I definitely feel for you guys now I have experienced that! It gives me a whole new level of admiration for what you are doing!
@@johnrutterphotography haha, the other way around hearing you say how large the difference is, gives us guys up here new life goals also 😉
why did you take the old sky tracker and not gti?
