He took insane risks, some which paid off big-time and some that crashed and burned. In the end, he was one of the canniest and inventive show-runners ever.

Danté W it’s not. They say silence has shaped humanity for thousands of years. When they wanted a spacesuit they made humanity go to the moon. I’m guessing that the silence wanted suits around the 19th century which I’m guessing is when suits were first made.
The scene of the Brigadier passing was an tribute to the actor Nicholas Courtney who played him for 40+ years who died a few months before broadcast of this episode.
I loved your reaction when you thought that the Doctor had told River his name - and props to you for immediately remembering that in the Library, 10th doctor said "You knew my name" - Moffat was counting on viewers to remember that - so that he could pull the rug out from under us later when the truth was revealed... This was my favourite Matt Smith season, lots of twists and turns and didnt click on the robot until more than halfway through the episode when i saw it on airing. Also the dates you see on the screen were the actual dates and times when it was aired so it made it that little more special. Fantastic season.
I don't care what anyone says, this is and forever will be my favourite season of DW, and this is tied for my number one favourite episode. River is my favourite character and I love how this season revolves around her and her story. Alex Kingston is just absolutely amazing.
It was my first series! Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and Alex Kingston totally won 11 year old me over here. I'll admit I found the ending anticlimactic, even back in the day, but most of Series 6 I loved!
Yes you did miss something @failwhale34. The Doctor was made aware again of the mortality of everyone (including himself) in that phone call he made. His bestest friend, The Brigadier died. He was in charge of UNIT, a "companion" of the Third and Fourth Doctor mainly (with Sarah Jane Smith!), but was in stories with Doctor's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Unlike Sarah Jane, he made efforts to go back and visit even in different regenerations.
Moffat describes himself as a 'linear' writer, which is to say he never thinks of the end and then works towards it. Hes sort of a victim of his own cleverness IMO, he can write himself into all sorts of corners, and find a way to write himself out, because hes that clever. But its frequently not something that feels like where it was 'organically' going, and can be a bit messy or rushed, I love Moffats build ups way more than his conclusions as a result.
I think RTD was way worse with writing the cast out of corners than Moffat. RTD always had cool cliffhangers but the lamest resolutions to those cliffhangers.
9:15 I don’t really like how it’s a sad scene because one of his old companions died and he’s making a joke but I understand he isn’t there yet in the classic series
Agreed...To many, Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart was Da Man! Da Bomb, One of the Doctor's closest and best friends in the Classic series! To just laugh in this scene, spits in the Face of That Great man!
I was not happy with the joke either I can understand his nonchalant attitude to it though but still raise a glass to the brigade if you can cause the man deserves it I'm bad with actor names.
2:00 Oh Look! It’s that Charlie Dickie boy! 4:10 Oh and Mark Gatiss again... 8:58 Also Nicholas Courtney who played Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart passed away that same year I believe along with Elizabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith) shortly after.
And also to show that even if time doesn't catch up with the Doctor, it does for his friends. He doesn't die, but they do. Maybe it's his turn to die. That's partly what convinced him to stop running.
I loved that seasons. Sure, it was a bit of a mess and the finale was kinda silly but it had a lot of really good episodes. And River is one of my favorite characters.

Idk if anyone had mentioned yet, but the theory is that the thing the doctor whispered in River’s ear when he was dying in Let’s Kill Hitler, the thing that really made her fall for him, was the same thing he said just before “dying” this time. “You are forgiven. He was telling her that he forgave her even as he died because of her 😭😭😭
I can’t wait for you to watch the 50th anniversary, your reaction is gunna go through the roof 😂 and when you see who replaces Matt smith when he regenerates, gunna be sick
The thing that really wrecked this finale was River in that suit. They really shot themselves in the foot by having young!River love the Doctor, because it completely undercuts the whole idea of them "molding a perfect psychopath" in the first place. If she loves him they can't justify River actually trying to kill him anymore, so they end up just making the suit be in control so... what's the point of having River be involved at all? Them "raising her to be a perfect killer" did nothing, her being in that suit added nothing... I just. I don't know, there was such a huge buildup to that and that reveal was just such a mess. What they should've done was have River straight up hate the Doctor at first, like she was raised to, then maybe meet him and start feeling conflicted about it or maybe not, but either way go through with "killing him" because that's what she was raised to do. And then afterward she could've started to feel guilty about it as she learned more about the Doctor and who he really was, and the people he'd helped, and /then/ she could fall in love with him. It's just.. ugh. Such an unsatisfying resolution the way it played out. But I'm rambling at this point so.. yeah.
Rachel R if it makes you feel any better you can fill the gap as to why the suit came to be in control instead of her. The faction raising her to be a psychopath that kills the Doctor never saw her falling in love with him as an option. They had to drug her to even get her in the suit and they thought they had her properly programmed up to that point... they had to make last minute arrangements to make the suit be in control instead and she still needed to do it so she could be the scape goat and take the blame. I totally get what you mean though but when my favorite shows do stuff like this I just make up what must have happened off screen to make it work. You are absolutely right it would have made way better sense to have her hate The Doctor then let him grow on her. One of my biggest irks about River’s story is that she gets shot in Florida by her mom, then somehow ends up in New York City to die from that, then transforms into Mel, who somehow ends up in England to grow up with Amy. I’ve of course created an elaborate reason why this might have happened. It goes something like this: She get shot by Amy, crawls out of the suit, the Silence decide that she is of no use so they dump her far away not realizing she can regenerate. Once they realize she can they take her to England to be close to happenings of The Doctor...but she finds his stories from Amy fascinating... thus planting the curious little Seed that turns to obsessive fantasies and then when she finally meets him she’s still young and influenced by her programming to kill the Doctor and ends up fighting those impulses and saves him by giving him her regenerations... which can be thought of as a very intimate moment that bonds them in some way... her obsessive fantasies turn to connection which turn to love and love is what keeps the Silence from being able to control her like they thought they would be able to. Thus having to last minute control the suit all while still making her the scape goat for their crime. Lol I know I wrote a book but anyone reads it, thanks! Lol

I did think about the robotic Doctor my fist time watching it and was super surprised I was able to see it. I was also able to figure out who River rrally was once the scene with her and Rory@ the beginning of thay episode happen... Her surprise to seeing him was a nice little givaway.
I guessed who river was as soon as we saw the baby’s name at the start of the episode. River = pond and song = melody was really obvious. Surprised so many seemed to have missed it.
If we follow Rivers timeline in chronological order, then Riversong killing the Doctor on the beach takes place after her appearance in Let’s Kill Hitler in which she wants to flat out murder him. So it’s supposed to come across as romantic that River risks the whole of time and space because she’s so in love with the Doctor. But from her point of view she tried to murder him, gave him some new regenerations and then hasn’t seen him again until she’s captured and placed in the lake. So why exactly does she love him so much? She’s hardly met him yet
I realize this video is over a year old now, but if you haven't seen it, you need to checkout this Kesha parody that encapsulates season 6: ruclips.net/video/c8392ITf7xE/видео.html
oooh, I've just had a thought. You know how the Silence aren't actually a species but a religion? What if the creatures we know as the silence were once more human looking, some organisation that wears suits a lot, kinda like the Men in Black or those Mormons you find on your doorstep, and something happened to morph them into these creatures. Would explain the tailoring
Yeah This episode felt like a flat landing for a story that has been going on for so long. It's like they say Moffat is great at setups but he's not good at writing conclusions.
This episode is fun, it’s camp, it’s wacky, it has a lot of the things we love about Who. But it’s hard to feel like it doesn’t fall apart consistency wise upon rewatch or closer inspection. Like yeah don’t look too closely at a fairy tale, but still.
Really enjoyed Season 6 really enjoyed the Finale but Series 7 to me is Matt Smith's finest and my personal favourite Season and the last 3 episodes including the Finale, The 50th, and The Last Special Wowza it is the best of the best them 3 for me
I don't know if the silents are wearing suits, their whole thing is hypnotic suggestion, how do we know that that isn't just a part of their body and we have modeled our suits after their appearance?

I was also able to figure out who River rrally was once the scene with her and Rory@ the beginning of thay episode happen... Her surprise to seeing him was a nice little givaway.
I guessed who river was as soon as we saw the baby’s name at the start of the episode. River = pond and song = melody was really obvious. Surprised so many seemed to have missed it.
Moffat's famous for his rug pull twists
If we follow Rivers timeline in chronological order, then Riversong killing the Doctor on the beach takes place after her appearance in Let’s Kill Hitler in which she wants to flat out murder him. So it’s supposed to come across as romantic that River risks the whole of time and space because she’s so in love with the Doctor. But from her point of view she tried to murder him, gave him some new regenerations and then hasn’t seen him again until she’s captured and placed in the lake. So why exactly does she love him so much? She’s hardly met him yet

River is officially my favorite character. :)
Would explain the tailoring
ahh this episode asdgjgj it felt so quick, love your videos🥰
You edited out the fact that Amy finally realized that She is the Doctors mother in law.
Yeah This episode felt like a flat landing for a story that has been going on for so long. It's like they say Moffat is great at setups but he's not good at writing conclusions.
Only 6 more episodes until absolute heartbreak!
This episode is fun, it’s camp, it’s wacky, it has a lot of the things we love about Who. But it’s hard to feel like it doesn’t fall apart consistency wise upon rewatch or closer inspection.
Like yeah don’t look too closely at a fairy tale, but still.
And that ends the golden age of New Who.
Why did you even ask? Tom foolery ALWAYS ensues.
The TARDIS: Bigger on the Inside
The Tessellactor: Smaller on the Inside
oh my god , next season gonna be amazing
The first question, hidden in plain sight...
WHY CAN'T THE SILENCE IRON THEIR SUITS FFS
Really enjoyed Season 6 really enjoyed the Finale but Series 7 to me is Matt Smith's finest and my personal favourite Season and the last 3 episodes including the Finale, The 50th, and The Last Special Wowza it is the best of the best them 3 for me
“Came home with a B”... A B?! That would’ve been cause for celebration for me. What?!

I suppose he just gets exited at teams?
I agree with your criticism, season 6 has a few flaws when you rewatch it knowing how it ends.
I don't know if the silents are wearing suits, their whole thing is hypnotic suggestion, how do we know that that isn't just a part of their body and we have modeled our suits after their appearance?
Goosebump central
'Where are the suits made?'
Me: 😐😑😳
