Oh, I don´t know if we can get 1500 likes for that Nardole guy. We need more of series 10 for that...

Watch the cougar town. It's very cool TV show
Remember when Rory's dad kept telling him to get a trowel, River apparently took that advice.
Forrest of the dead: "you turned up to my doorstep, with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium to see the singing towers. What a night that was. The towers sang, and you cried. You wouldn't tell me why but I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to the library. You even gave me your screwdriver. That should have been a clue "
Husbands of river song:
"nardole what have you brought to my doorstep?"
"i've had a haircut. this is my best suit!"
"its a sonic scredriver! how lovely!"
"the music. listen to it. are you crying?" "No its just the wind"
"how long is a night on Darillium?" "twenty four years"
😭😭💔😭😭
I love Moffat's writing because of things like this.
Don't @ me.
Soul Index Moffat is the best, I can’t believe how much hate he got. We could really use Moffat at a time like this.
Broccoli_32 Moffat is the best individual episodic writer however RTD is still by far the best show runner. As good as he was Moffat was responsible for a lot of shit episodes, storylines and characters etc. RTD while he made mistakes his writing and seasons got better and better. RTD is by far the best
@@Broccoli_32 Moffat was a fantastic episode writer, but didn't do season arcs very well.
River and 11 are the high school romance
River and 12 are an older married couple
River and 10 are the ships that passed in the night
weirdly reminds me of the Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight trilogy now
River and 6 are the couple who hooked up at work.
(Big Finish reference)
@Mobley House Video I haven't heard the one with 4 unfortunately, so I don't know. She and 6 pushed each other's egos in a very flirty way, and they are implied to get busy. They at least snog.
@@aloysiuswhiteboat2934 if you know, you know, and it's funny
I may be a little biased but no other Doctor would have been able to make this special work so well without Capaldi. It's emotional but charmingly funny episodes like this that perfectly suit him.
I always imagined that when she was talking about the "real Doctor" in Forest of the Dead, that she wasn´t talking about Smith. But Capaldi and her sure got some chemistry and I would love to see a bit more of those 24 years. I hope, it was a delightful "honeymoon" where the Doctor got to take some time off of saving everyone all the time.
#1 question to me would be: Why did she decide to go to the library then? Or better HOW did it occur....
ChanCeNecK I guess if you’re applying real logic to it, bearing in mind how clever river is, if she realised she was going to delirium (or however it’s spelt) and the Doctor was non committal about her coming to her end she would probably just go into protective isolation for like the next year, turn down any contracts and the like.
@@keirlamont2806 Or perhaps they really talked it out at some point and she actually accepted her fate? I mean, he even told her his god damn name at some point, I would assume there would be no secrets between them anymore....
Indeed. Despite my distaste for what Moffat turned River into when he became showrunner (including parts of this episode, where she's clearly a serial killer now with no qualms about murdering her way through everything), Capaldi's acting really helps to keep me from truly hating this episode. There's no way Matt Smith could have done this, with his flapping and gawping. It needed a more mature performance, with more quiet moments.
He was my favorite Doctor. Didn't like him at first, took a bit for me to get into it. I love that he was a bit more mean sort of like the first Doctor. He ended up being very charming and fitting the role perfectly with his own unique spin
Best.... “Hello Sweetie” ... ever. And at the risk of the echo, the part where he gives river the sonic screwdriver and scans her.. and then you realize that was him saving her and preparing for the library... hit really hard.
That is one of the most beautiful damn scenes ever filmed. "There is a song" - obviously they didn't want to write the Doctor ever actually saying "I love you", so they just came up with a perfect line and told Capaldi to put the "I love you" in it.
Exactly! I always thought, 11 maybe had the hots for her, but he didn´t actually LOVE River. But 12 did!
11 definitely loved River and he proved it in Name of the Doctor.
I love the way he scans her with the screwdriver before giving it to her. So David Tennant can use it to save her.
And my god the chemistry between them.
Definitely worth watching the library episodes again. They were moving the first time but now seeing River's face when she realises that 10 doesn't know her is just heartbreaking.
I do hope that the trowel reference means she dropped in or her grandfather now and then. The reference to Manhattan does suggest that she must have lost her parents shortly before this story.
I only now realized another cool continuity bit. River thought that the Doctor could only have those 12 faces because, in a regular regeneration cycle, that's all he should have. She had no idea that the Doctor survived Trenzalore due to Gallifrey's intervention.
it was actually stated in the episode that she recently came from manhattan
@@donpollard3640 Yes, that's what I was getting at. They don't say directly from Manhattan though, so she would have had time to visit granddad and then marry the diamond.
@@Rocksteady72a Ah... if only that were true. For they were all deceived, for they believed the lie of the Timeless Child.
@@holl0918 The Master loves to play mental games with the Doctor, the Timeless Child could be a trick
20:57 - Nice detail with Twelve scanning River so he can put her "data ghost" inside the screwdriver, and therefore save her in the library.
whaaaa-
I love River’s sonic trowel as an homage to Rory’s dad and his love for his trowel.
Taking after her granddad!
overrated and overused comment...
And this comment is the first time I realised that's her grandad!
Love Lissa runs in the family
I have no doubts her and Brian met
If you remember rivers speech in silence of the library she mentioned the last time she saw him was when he took her to see the singing towers of darillium, and in which the doctor cried, way to bring it full circle
And he showed up with a new haircut and a suit.
Also, River remarked that Tenth was "so young", referencing the fact that in their last date, the Doctor was (will be?) an old man (Twelfth)
if u noticed at first glance it may seem like hes being playful by scanning her with the screwdriver but what he did was synch her consciousness to the device so that his past self could upload her in the library
@@123jcdab I love that detail so much.
Capaldi didn´t cry here though! I suppose that must have happened later on, way more down in their relationship, perhaps when signs accumulated that River would be going to the Library soon....
For me somehow the best part of this episode is the last few seconds, when the text "And they both lived happily ever after" comes up.
It's nice, but then the "ever after" dissolves, because no, it wasn't ever after, just the next 24 years.
Then the "and they both lived" dissolves, because no, they didn't both live, because River inevitably had to go to the library and die.
All that's left is one word, "happily", because despite their time eventually having to come to and end, they were happy. Just that, happy. And that's the most beautiful thing in the world to me.
I always loved that too. Just love love loved these two. Nothing will ever beat'em. This episode aches in the best way, one of my ABSOLUTE favorites. The way he laughs hard for the first time in a while, the call backs, the way they got their 24 years of happily, and all those adventures we never saw! I think it's brilliant, and honestly couldn't be happier.
Notice the first thing he says to her: "...I've got a new suit and a haircut..."
The last thing River said to 10 in the library: "You showed up on my doorstep in a new haircut and a suit..."
I love the chemistry between 12 and River. It's amazing and it instantly became one of my favorite Capaldi episodes
"When the wind stands fair, and the night is perfect. And when you least expect it, but always when you need it the most... there is a song." is a reflection of River's final words in Forest of the Dead; "When the wind stands fair, and the Doctor comes to call... everybody lives.". I like to think that his version is how he see's time with her. And her's is exactly how she's always viewed the Doctor.
"What if he has a face that you don't know about yet?"
"He has limits."
Oh, River, sweetie...
11thdid, until he was granted the extension
And yet she expects him to "find a way around it" when it comes to herself 😄
Well this definitely didn't age well past season 12...
i highly recommend reacting to "the timeline of river song" by confession dial.
yep
PLEASE DO FAILWHALE!!!!!! IT ESTABLISHES THE TIMELINE SO WELL AND ITS SO EMOTIONAL
This is a definite must, changes the whole perspective on her story
Absolutely agree! I would love to see the reaction of it on this channel 😁
YES
This is my favourite Christmas Special. I find this almost perfect.
I would have agreed with you, but after a while I changed my mind about Return of Doctor Mysterio. Which would be MY personal favourite christmas special, had there not been Time of the Doctor, which is my favourite overall episode... .Pretty much....
“remember that time there were two of you”
Neat little undercut reference to the little webisode “First Night/Last Night” it retcons.
Underrated Doctor, huge fan of him.
He’s anything but underrated
he is certainly not. I think very many people consider him the best. Me included
Capaldi? Underrated? Ha!
Okay, to put it into perspective, Tennant's popularity was exponentially higher than Calpadi's. Tom Baker's was even higher.
@@MojoTransportation Tennant was my Doctor but then Capaldi came along and now I can't really choose. Matt Smith was also really good, I think it's a testament to the writing that they can make me love so many characters when they're essentially replacing someone you know and love.
Peter is my favourite doctor and I love that you’re taking to him 😎
When I realized where they're going with the end... I cried a River
Enough to fill a Pond?
It is the same alley! The BBC only has 5 sets, 4 scripts and 7 actors.
Hello! Exactly! LOL
you should rewatch the library 2 parter now that you have seen all of river's story
Wow...its the way she looks at him in Silence in the Library that's tearing me to pieces
i love this special
Nardole has entered the chat!
After this episode rewatch the episode of David tenant as the Doctor with Donna Noble in the library, 2 part episode with the Vashta Nerada. Where the Doctor first meets Dr. River Song, and Melody Pond last sees the Doctor. Confusing I know. Then see Matt Smith's Trenzalore episode with Clara, Strax, Jenny, and The Silurian woman The second episode in New Who with the Great Intelligence Which happens after River is inside the CAL computer in the Library.
I honestly think this is my favourite special mainly because it sets up their married life and the kind of 'domestic bliss' that only she could have ever given him, especially because of their lifestyles and life spans. This special just shows the importance that River has to the Doctor that a lot of Who fans tend to ignore or downplay in favour of other love interests
"It's me! Nardy!" Made me LOSE MY MIND
20:56 That scan he did of her with the sonic screwdriver is him "saving" her for Forest of the dead.
This episode really crushes me ahhhhhhhh. Because after this it's the library part where she dies :'(
12 and River have better chemistry than 11 and River.
Change my mind.
No one needs to change your mind there m8
I disagree but respect your opinion
But she had the best chemistry with 10, tell me OTHERWISE!

I agree that the first half of the show was a bit wonky and silly. But From the time the ship crashes, pure gold. The instant emotions that are represented are amazing and Capaldi and Kingston did fantastic jobs.
This is my second favourite special right behind “A Christmas Carol” idk. Capaldi is my favourite incarnation of the Doctor, he genuinely gets better in every season! I adore him in season 10 even though the writing wasn’t that great but each to their own opinion
Yes! Same but series 10 is actually my favourite Capaldi series.
Omg it's the same for me! A Christmas Carol and this ep are my first and second favorite Christmas eps.
your reactions have always been entertaining but your Editor has recently made them even better so credit to them
and i agree , good to see Capaldi smile after the hell he went through (although series 10 is about to add to that happiness and pain)
“The river timeline just went wonky” it’s always been wonky lol. Also yes that is the same hallway just set up differently
Say what you will about the BBC, they get mileage out of their hallway sets.
"Most people need a flowchart."
I think everyone Cried at the end of the episode i know it did. This was a good episode.
The Doctor: "...but always when you need it most.... there's a Song."
Me: 😭😭😭 (every damn time I see this.)
Personally, that's one hell of a quote...
Я смотрю в русской озвучке и мне понадобилось несколько просмотров эпизода и случайно увиденный клип в оригинальной озвучке, чтобы услышать эту невероятную фразу! Это было невероятное открытие
20:00 they brought back some of the old music! that song was used when river used her regenerations to save 11
Does he not notice that this episode is essentially the prequel to Silence in the library
24:28
My favourite Xmas special hands down! So excited!!!!
IM SO GLAD YOU GOT HERE!
This is one of my favourite specials, if not THE favourite. It ties up so many loose ends in River and The Doctor's relationship and gives us an insight on how she is when the Doctor isn't around. The first half feels wacky because of that, because the Doctor is almost a "companion" to the persona River Song puts to the world when she's not running around with her husband. It also came out in the context of a lot of criticism of certain circles that insisted her character was centered around the Doctor or whatever, so I think that's why Moffat went like this - the first half adresses the levity of the character, how she is when the Doctor isn't around, how she overexaggerates a persona that runs around stealing diamonds and overthrowing monarchs. The second half adresses her inner life, how insecure she is about her husband, their relationship, etc.
Remember that, in River's timeline, this follows Manhattan and the loss of her parents. Remember how 11 was in that episode towards her, almost cold and focused on his own grief over losing the Ponds. This is the consequence of that - a River that embraces the "psychopath antihero" persona and runs faster that she ever had before to avoid thinking about her grief, her relationship and her feelings.
But also, it shines on what's positive and important on these two relationship when there's no plot-drama around. They deeply care about each other, they love each other, deeply, even though the timelines are all wrong. "When you need it the most, there is a song". They are what each other need and want to be when the other needs them. And it shows a growth between the 11 that couldn't stay still in s7 and 12 who is willing to spend 24 years in domestic bliss with his wife.
I love this. Probably my favorite Christmas special. It just wraps up River's arc so beautifully. I love that we discover she's been borrowing the Tardis. Her speech in the restaurant is heartbreaking, where we realize she thinks the Doctor doesnt/can't love her? But she loves him with so much. And the flip of the hello, sweetie. My heart can't take it. Then to realize her next stop, the one that wont ever make it into the diary, is to meet 10 & Donna in the Library. It's just so Damn Good. The chemistry between River & 12 is so good, I only wish we could have more.
Should definitely go back and rewatch the library episodes now, see her through to the end.
Silence in the Library, and Forest of the Dead.
THANK YOU!!! Someone understands the relationship between 12 and Clara in season 8 & 9.
SERIES 8&9! Season 8 & 9 was Tom Baker....
@@chanceneck8072 Season 8 and 9 was Pertwee. You don't need to be so pedantic when it's obvious which series they're talking about; season/series only really needs to be used accurately if it's ambiguous whether they mean classic or new.
Season 8&9 are pertwee not Baker you donk. And does it really matter? Stop trying to secretly show off that you are a hard core Whovian. There’s bigger hard core whovians here than you ya know.

River and 10: One night stand
River and 11: Boyfriend and Girlfriend (high school/ Secondary school)
River and 12: Old married couple
Capaldi is my favorite Doctor. This might be my favorite episode of his. Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead is definitely my favorite Tennant story and this ties directly into that.
Oh, my heart! I hadn’t picked up on the “you were just in Manhattan” comment before. So, for her, she just lost her parents. Her next adventure after this night with the Doctor is when she meets Ten at the Library. 😭
Peter Capaldi is such an outstanding actor!! I swear if it was just him and a wall, he'd have really amazing chemistry with the wall as well!! :D
"When the wind stands fair, and the night is perfect, when you least expect it, but always...when you need it the most, there is a Song!"
10:34 awww that's so sweet, he thinks british TV has a budget
?
@@Damo2690 It's an ongoing joke about the BBC, it seems like they only have 6 actors, 3 props and a single set to share between shows sometimes
Notice how he scanned her brain waves as soon as she opened the present
I really love this episode because it’s super fun and also has some hard hitting moments. I’m also a massive River fan.
I’d love to see a re-reaction to the library episodes though!
You should keep this editer forever, I'm loving it!
20:48
Can’t ignore that Silence in the library/ Forrest of the dead theme
I don't think I'd ever realized (or maybe remembered) that the first bit of this was odd, but I love River so much, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. From her speech and his HelloSweetie forward, this is my very favorite Christmas special. I've seen the entire 2005- run repeatedly plus reaction videos, so this being a bookend for my very favorite character including The Doctor himself makes it even more significant.
Although Rory is my favourite companion, a VERY close second is coming up, you're gonna love Bill.
Bill is great, but I think she got really shafted on the season. Between the loosely-connected first three episodes, the Monks trilogy, and the two-parter finale, it feels like she got about half a season's worth of stories. It's especially egregious after Amy and Clara got two and a half each.
@ I know, it felt like her ark just flew past, but the character itself was great, as was the acting and actress. I loved the scene with the roman soldiers in the cave...she's the restricted one? lol.
Rory was my favorite in series 5. I wasn't a fan of Amy for a while. Rory was the only one I liked for most of that series. It took me all of series 5 to like Matt Smith as the Doctor.
Swear, failwhale is _the_ sharpest "react-er" out there. His predictions and theories are so enjoyable to watch.
I honestly just want a video on his patreon or something with his theories or "what I would do" for season 13.

Is no one else gonna notice the title? 'The Husbands of *Riversong'* lmao
Oh. My. God. I'm scarred for life.
i don't get it
There's robots and explosions and what not, and yet the scene I remember most is just River and The Doctor talking on the balcony.
12: what if he has a different face?.... One you don’t know about yet?
River: he has limits!
Chibnall: hehehe, that’s what you all thought.
Except he already had more than 13 lives by this point
This is my absolute favorite Doctor Who episode!!! It's got humor, action, romance; what more could you ask for!!! Twelve and River are PERFECT together!!! I've watched this MANY times and i.I'm always ready for more!!! Great reactions! I'll have to check out more of your videos!!!
I would recommend re-watching the two episodes that River were first introduced in, since this is the end of River’s timeline with the Doctor, other than the Library. It’ll be a lot more emotional this time around.
This is such a silly episode and I love it for that.
Even though it was only for 1 episode, I feel that 1) Capaldi had some of the best chemistry with River Song, and 2) This was in my Top 5 favorite River Song episodes.
This is my go to episode if I’m feeling down. It’s not perfect but seeing 12 have fun after a very traumatic series is just wonderful to watch
Best "Hello Sweetie" Ever!!!
One of my favorite episodes. The chemistry between River and Capaldi is so good.
"I hate you..."
"No, you don't."
9:44: Capaldi turns his comedy dial up to 10....
15:45: Alex Kingston, you are magnificent!!
My favorite Who Christmas special.
That last look between Capaldi and Kingston. My word!
20:58
12 was slick
He scanned h-... sorry.
He "saved" her.
The PERFECT ending to the River arc.
Two master class actors they could say more in a look than a page of dialogue.
It would be great if they made a spin off that would show us what happened in Darrillium during those 24 years.
River always was my favourite character and the Doctor's lover. Best chemistry. They weren't together for too long but that was a real love between two of them. I cried when I saw this ep. It's a full circle. And it's almost time for River to go to the library. But just not right now. They have they 24 years ahead.
Used to watch you like last year and now I just got recommended you channel again. Wanted to watch the series by myself for a few eps but now I'm back!
Your "Tennant Fumming" edit was so good, A+ joke.
When he waves her new sonic at her head he is linking the neural relay in the screwdriver to her brain.
This is my all time favourite episode… and then I cried, as usual!!!…there are a few other episodes that are very very close!! 😍🇬🇧
Best Hello sweetie of them all. (T-T)
This is my favourite Christmas special. Yes, the first part is wacky and weird, but the Doctor/River parts more than made up for all of it. I love how it gave us Darillium finally.
I think it’s heartbreaking 😢 that River thought the Doctor didn’t love her... unless she was lying. 🤥
I don't think the Doctor doesn't love River. I just think that love is a very human conception, deeply linked to time, that a semi-immortal life been as the Doctor can't really say.
I think some of what she said is true and some of it was just to kill time for the meteor shower. The reason I say that is because she mentioned that the Doctor would never be sentimental and we know she just came from Manhattan where she just scolded him for using his regeneration energy to heal her wrist and she accuses him of being a sentimental fool.
She was telling the truth. She lied when she said she was stalling for time because she was embarrassed.
@@hothotheat3000 she was telling her truth, like she truly believed the doctor didn't love her but that's only what she believes it to be true it doesn't mean it is actually true because the whole episode is literally showing that the doctor in fact loves her, they literally spend 24 years together
Thanks guys for pointing out the scanning thing 12 did, I didn’t realize that was for 10 to save her. It was so amazing to see their story come full circle.😊
When the doctor 'shows' her the screwdriver, he actually scans her so she's now saved in the screwdriver. Done and Done. Circle closed.
this is old but I was rewatching and you know how the doctor just left her diary in the library and never looked at it. I wouldn't be able to do that. all those years he could have read to have comfort and just didn't. He could have read her last years with him before she left. its so crazy when you think about it All her memories in the one book but before he truly knew her but she knew him.
12 and River are relationship goals.
And that's the Sonic Screwdriver she tells the 10th Doctor he gave her...the one that "backs her up" at the end of "Forest of the Dead"...the first time we meet River.
The Doctor actually looked forward to being the "first time" to step into the Tardis
the moment she says i got a trowel. which is a reference to her grandfarther (rory's dad brian) and he says always come prepeard, when pulling a trowel out of his pocket when they were on the beach. Now she has a sonic trowel
River's timeline is a bit wonky if you watch in the Doctor's order - and even then, we miss most of their relationship because it happens off screen (damn you, moffat! I want to see their married shenanigans! I dont care about the clara s7 plot!)
But when you watch it in River order and think about the complexities and nuances that are written there, they make her an absolutely interesting and complex character.
Season 10 is sick. You and I are in for a treat 😂
Saying that, the next special is pretty rough. Genuinely probably the worst special in history of new who in my opinion
To think the last time River saw the Doctor was the first time that he ever saw her in his life...
ill never understand people that genuinely think the doctor doesn't love River.
We can't really speak about love with the Doctor. I mean, of course he loves her in some way. As he loves Rose in another and Clara in another. Just... Love is a very human concept, linked deeply to time. The Doctor is a human being potentially semi-immortal. He can love and hate, but these concepts in him are just... Different. Not measurable in a human way. Never.
Would have loved to see 13 do this episode. Just because seeing River stunned is really fun.
This is one of my all time favorite episodes! I think the chemistry between River and 12 was so much better than River and anyone else.
i loved the usage of the silence in the library ost in this episode. really effective as a bridge.
If you come here and are knowing your who,...
you know what episodes are next
Been waiting on your reaction to this for a while, that end part where he scans River before the library and spending time with each other was full of all the best feels. Hope alls well your end during these crazy times buddy, keep up the good work o7
For me this is one of my favourite xmas specials, especially if you then go back and watch the library, Rivers scenes are something else.
man the actor that Nardole is hilarious, I went to see him in a play in London and he was very funny.
