    Rejuvenate the older Cherry tree by cutting it back drastically to a level that can easily be covered by a frost cloth in spring. You can also graft a different cherry tree to its root stock as well.

    I am a fantastic gardener (I say that humbly... I’ve been doing it a very long time... it took a while to get here!) BUT, I’ve never grown strawberries and know nothing about them. Actually any fruit. I’m one that wants to master something before I add more to grow. Next year we start with strawberries! Thank you for sharing your experience!
    Any who.... I wanted to share that low potassium brings in pests. The aluminum in the rain water binds to the potassium in the soil. Less potassium in a plant creates more carbohydrates (sugars) and that’s what the bugs want. It also creates a thin cell structure and it’s easier for them to chew through. Heavily push the potassium next year and see if that helps. There are organic way to add more. A liquid may be your best bet.

      Where are you located? Thanks so much for chiming in! We finally got some rain and I swear it seemed to really affect certain plants. This happened last year too after a rain. It seems my peppermint is acting as the canary in the cave. I was thinking it was aluminum. Previously I saw the planes leaving trails. SMH. I am goin to get some potassium!

    I must say that you will never bore me with squash recipes. Out here in Indonesia we got flooded with tomatoes if we plant them right at the end of the rain season. Also if we plant squash or pumpkins, it will give us a whole lot of pumpkins to last us 2 whole years😂😂😂😂. We always end up giving & selling some away.

    • @sherrikarlstedt6442
      @sherrikarlstedt6442 Месяц назад

      How do you store them that long or do you do some kind of preservation?

    • @ima7333
      @ima7333 Месяц назад

      @@sherrikarlstedt6442 fully vine ripened pumpkin can last up to a year in room temp in a dark & cool room. I once or twice manage to keep a few up to 2 yrs long. Squashes don’t last that long but their plants keeps fruiting for up to 5 yrs before stopping. I don’t keep squashes around that long. I’d usually gave away or sold what my family couldn’t eat by setting up purchase order 2 weeks before our harvest. That way we won’t end up with too many to eat. The same goes for tomatoes when we used to plant them. These days due to rat infestation, we couldn’t keep a large veggie garden. We still never need to buy ginger, lemon grass, galanga and turmeric as we kept them in pots. They never stop producing either.

I also covered my strawberries with straw and leaves too early last winter and voles or mice or rats eat a great deal of the plants. I had to buy more plants. So I will not cover with straw either this year. (Zone 5 in Ontario). I am glad to hear your findings on this matter! So enjoy all your videos and yes God is good all the time! Blessings, Diane

    Ruthanne, I live in Manitoba Canada, our winters can reach -50 with the windchill. I have never covered my June bearing or ever bearing strawberries and they grow abundantly and multiply rapidly every year.
    When I don't have Sulphur for my garden for my fruit trees or other plants, I crush a boiled egg and put it in the soil amongst the roots. I boil it 20 minutes so the Sulphur dioxide is more concentrated. It does help. Try using a staple gun and zip ties on your stakes for your peas. I make a notch In my stakes about every 8 - 12 inches with a table saw and then I can use string or chicken wire or netting and it doesn't slide once I tie it on.

    It sounds crazy but…ma used to give the 3 of us kids a piece of garden hose to beat our pear trees. Start at the bottom of the trunk and walking around the tree, keep slowly moving up the trunk as far as you can reach. You dont want to hurt the bark so just use a piece of hose or something similar. The reason to do this is to improve the circulation of the tree. My grandpa did this to all his fruit and nut trees. The years we did do this we had good yields. I hope this helps somehow! Looking back, the folks driving up the highway right in front of our house probably thought we were maniacs just running around beating on trees and occasionally each other ! 😏 Take care and God bless! 😊

We're in Vermont, and it came on June 12th, killed most of our apple blossoms, killed my plum blossoms, and pear blossoms. Vermont lost well over half its apple crop this last year. Then flooding in July...mother nature is NOT happy with us!! And as a PS: I LOVE squash and pumpkin, and you could make as many videos on them as you want, I would never get bored, ha ha!

      I would add to only use it as a fire starter. Pine is so full of sap that it can build up and cause a chimney fire if you burn a lot of it/burn it full time... Ask me how I know, lol.

    Through my years of gardening I’ve found that some years some things don’t do well at all, but there is always at least one vegetable or fruit that produces so bountifully. Like you, I’m always thankful for what the Lord gives me and try to take care of it even if I feel like it’s too much, because next year that particular thing might not do well at all. This year my fruits all did exceptionally well, as did my tomatoes. My green beans did okay, but not great. I got very few potatoes this year, too.

    My sister gave me a bunch of ever bearing strawberries this year. Some are doing well and others aren’t. She came over yesterday and told me to keep cutting the brown leaves and runners off. So we’ll see if it works. Both of us are organic growers which is a challenge amidst people who use pesticides all around us. Last year I let my garden lay fallow, tested the soil, and did remediation. Most of my garden is now planted but we still have some cold nights coming next week. Yesterday I put of 10 more walls of water which helps when it gets cold. I cover the tops with reemay. I thought about you first thing this moring as I headed out to begin my chores. I made my list yesterdy and got the list completed today. Then I came in and made dinner for tonight. Breakfast for dinner sounded good and it will buscuits and sausage gravey and probably a fried egg on top. Tomorrow is another day.

    Maybe that’s why my tomatoes didn’t do well this year….husband watered them EVERY night. 😮 Would love to know/see how to propagate the grapes.

    I adore your videos! My family is on a small scale doing and learning, so we can do better when we get more land. We are always learning, and that is something that reminds us to be thankful for the bounty and humble in our endeavors. When one crop does not do well, there is often one or more that do fantastic in the same conditions, so it is an adjustment and always a harvest in gratitude. Blessings to you and your family!

    Hello my fellow Iowan ! I love your “ God is good” at the end of your videos. He sure is !! Your picket fence around the garden with the Zinnias and Sunflowers. ( 2 of my all time favorites ) is so wonderful. As is the rest of the garden. ❤ My Grandpa Hartwell RIP many , many years ago grew strawberries. He lived in
    Carpenter Iowa ( a one street town) lol close to Mason city. He had a very large plot of strawberries. He sold them all over. 😊 He also had a beautiful garden. As a kid he would visit us in central Iowa. He always brought us brown garden gloves. Lol ( There was 10 of us kids ). Kids don’t like that stuff. Funny memory. Thanks Ruth Ann for this very nice replay of this summer. 😊

    With regards to your potatoes, when you are home, take the dogs to the garden so that their scent is over the plants to deter the rodents and then put them inside the electric fence and out of the garden when you are not home. I did something similar with my cats to keep the mice out of the garden. It worked for the most part. Love hearing about your garden.

    I’m in central NY. We had a late frost, cherry blossom and peach flowering time, cherries were very limited due to frost plus a spring drought. Then there was several inches of rain so what cherries there were many split. I was able to get about 1/2 the regular amount😕. There were no local apricots or peaches to be had because of that late frost. But God still provided what we neeeded.
    The hen turkey with a dozen or so feet sticking out was too cute. What a great picture! Thank you.. 😊

    Mulch your plants with straw to create a habitat that will attract ladybugs, ground beetles and green lacewings. These bugs will get rid of Potato Bugs for you while doing no damage to your garden.

    We have trouble growing strawberries here (because of deer, birds, and other wild things). I have seen metal stock fence posts with 2 by 4 boards held in place (with strong metal wood screws) to the tops of the metal stock fence posts. Long strings of heavy cords, or coated wire, or heavy netting is then attached to the boards and brought down to where climbing beans or peas may reach them.
    My parents followed the rule of growing The Three Sisters (corn, beans, and winter squash). They planted corn first (leaving a little extra room between the corn plants and rows). When the corn had put out their first real leaves, then they planted climbing bean seeds beside each corn plant. After, the beans started growing (and some of them had sent out their strings to attach to something) then they planted the winter squash seeds among the corn and bean plants (not close together because winter squash takes a lot of space). The broad leaves of the winter squash shade out most weeds and help slow down water loss from the soil. However, the corn, beans, and squash/pumpkin garden is not the place to take small children; because, it is a perfect place for snakes to hunt and hide. We always went into that garden armed with a sharp hoe (just in case we found a copperhead snake). If you find one copperhead, it's mate is somewhere near by.

    Love your video. Even though we may do some things over and over there are always lessons to be learned whether they be positive or negative. You have showed us that in this video. AS a thought about the dogs digging up the rotting potatoes, maybe you could allow them into the garden when you and the children are out there so as to limit their explorations but still leave their animal scents behind. Great idea to grow some of the tomatoes with shorter maturity dates. Thank you for the video and stay warm and healthy.😊🌱🌺🌻🍒🍓🌽🥕

    I've been watching you for the past year,I've enjoyed watching your channel. You work to hard,always moving. You will live a long healthful life! I have made alot of your recipes and have learned so much from you. I live on 4 acres,and have grown alfalfa,to veggies. I live in southern New Mexico,hot and not much rain,but I can grow anything here. But I have no help from little kids,mine are all grown up and left the nest so now my garden is half the size,but raised on a farm will always grow veggies. You are very laid back and very patient with the growing to raising children
