I like the video but need to point out that when you use the tool to remove the push pin you don’t pry the entire pin out. The pin has two sections, by pulling the inner section up it allows the pin to squeeze through the hole. Reinserting is the opposite, pull the inner pin, insert and push the inner pin in.
Haha I noticed this also. You can actually do it without the tool if you know how to use those clips. One clip is too close to an edge so you need to use something other than your finger nails. Unless you’re a real man with song fingers, no need to use any tools, bare hands will work just fine.
Hi Peter, Thank you so much for a very helpful video. I clicked like and subscribed to your youtube channel. I ordered the Tparts console data transmission module and installed it on my new Tesla Model Y (It was built in December 2023, I bough it last month during the inventory discount time frame at Tesla Fremont CA, it has only 8 miles on the odometer), but unfortunately there is no USB port on the ECU unit at all. I took a picture of the ECU unit and want to share it with you, but there is no option to attach a picture here. At least I tried, so I guess I just have to listen only to the radio then.
My 2022 MYLR actually had the cable fitted so I only had to install the new cenrral USB module and connect the existing unused cable to it! It all works fine now and I have data from the central usb ports.
Thank you very much! I just installed it and it worked!! Your video helped me end a frustration I've had with only one data port in my 2022 M3. Granted I've been able to work around it by setting up partitions in the flash drive, but I really like the ability to have data ports in the center console for a dedicated music flash drive and to be able to plug in a game controller without messing with my Scentry drive. BTW...I was one of the lucky ones that only had to plug and play from the center console. I didn't have to do the extra work you had to do.
@@TheAutomotiveFanatic Not sure I buy that it's supply chain. I think it's more strategic by Tesla - removing the data link and any form of CarPlay basically forces you to purchase a subscription to premium connectivity and apple music. Worked on me! I bought it when I couldn't use my phone to stream. Sucks! Extra $240 a year that I didn't really want to spend.
Yeah I was surprised that usb didn't work when I took delivery this month as when I originally tested the Y years ago it worked. I agree that it's better in the center . I bought one of those sub hubs for the glove but I can see Its not good from the standpoint of it never powers down. Tparts has this cheaper than the Tesla vendors as well as there other stuff. Might get one I have installed stereo's before. When I do I know it's a good idea to have spare plastic clips.
I have had the TParts module since early 2022. Works great. Love it. Tesla, please add data ability to center usb-c area again. I use the ports for dual game controllers and usb based music media because I do not like my music getting compressed by Bluetooth transmission.
@@giohernandez396 I believe the games were omitted from the factory. Only OTA updates would provide you the games. The data ports have nothing to do with it.
I don’t even have the data cable attached with the power cable. Even with the extension cable I will still need the cable to attach to the transmission module on model 3. Took delivery a week ago.
I have the same problem. No data cable taped to charge/power cable inside console. Will need a data cable to feed from usb module to data port under glove box?? Is Electric Ant saying that the cable is long enough to feed from Module inside console to data port under glove box? Can this be done?
Gregory, I cannot confirm if the TParts cable is long enough. Because I had the hidden cable, I connected it directly. I will say though, I had extra length of it might work.
I just got my Tparts kit and my 22 MYP (march order/June delivery) doesn’t seem to have the connector taped or visible to plug into the unit. I do have the tparts extension cable but not sure it has anything to plug into on the center console side. Will look closer during daylight tomorrow but sort of concerned.
I have the extension cable taped up in my 22 M3P Shanghai. But when connecting using the cable it did not work. Had to bypass and connect directly from new module to ECU
2023 Model Y. Why don’t my usb c ports in the backseat and console NOT WORK? I bought an adapter so I could use my iPhone charging cord but it doesn’t seem to charge. Help! Thanks
Did they work before any changes you may have recently made? How about testing it with another cable? Maybe pull out the wire to see if it's properly connected?
Nice upgrade! I just received a 2022 Tesla model Y last week. Do you know if this usb data module interfaces with the glove box USB port in anyway ? I’d like to add data to the USB ports in the center counsel but only if it doesn’t affect the glove box ability to use a 4 port hub in the glove box. TParts product page says something about their module not working with certain 3rd party hubs but I’m hoping this just applies to the center consul and not the OEM glove box USB port
I received a response from t parts customer service. “Hi Jon, Thank you for reaching out to us! Our Data Module will not interface with the USB port in the glove box, and your USB hub will be still working with our data module installed on your Tesla. Hope this answers your question, TPARTS Customer Service”
I purchased and installed the T Part Center Data Module about 4 months ago. This allowed me to play music from my USB. All went well until yesterday when my 2022 Tesla Model Y responded to my engagement of my USB with the following message "Loading Error - USB Device" Following the category "Resetting USB in Tesla" I was advised to "tap controls - tap Safety & Security -scroll to Format USB device - tap format". Unfortunately, the "format USB device" message was greyed out. Added efforts included voiding and reloading my USb. To no avail. Your advice?
Hi Arthur, sorry to hear about the issue. Perhaps the drive became corrupted somehow? Did you try another USB device to rule out a defective data module?
I replaced the Center Data Module with one from TPART. Worked well for 4 months then when tried to listen to music on my USB I received a “failure to load” notice. Used new USBs to no avail. Found a note to try a reboot - did not work. Tried a new USB hub in glove compartment. Sentry continued to work through it but no working music USB. What to do now?
Unhook the power cable from the old module and feel back along the power cable about 2.5 inches. Do you feel a lump in the taped up power cable? If so, THAT is the end of the usb cable with a large connector on it. carefully remove the tape to expose the connector that is folded back on itself. Good luck, I just did this an hour ago on a 2023 Y built in January 2023.
Question for all those who have installed it. My data module was working OK, so I has data on the center console... but after last software update it is not working any more. Has this happened to anyone?
July 2022 built Model Y. No data cable taped to charge/power cable inside center console. smh. Will need a data cable to feed from usb module to data port under glove box?? Does TParts data module kit come with data cable long enough to connect from module inside console to under glovebox? Also, how difficult is it to feed data cable from module to port under glovebox?
Are you serious Gregory? Your Model Y didn't even come with a data cable hidden in the center console? Here is what I would do...contact TParts on IG and ask them if the included cable is long enough. When I used the extension cable, there was definitely extra length. However, I had the hidden cable so I can not confirm if TParts's cable is long enough.
Jason, you have to use the provided tool and some force. Don't worry, you will not break anything with that tool. Check out 5:05 where I show how to remove it.

Neat that you can "restore" that functionality but doesnt seem there is a great interface or media player to consume that media though.
You're absolutely correct. There's really no cutting edge program on the Tesla to maximize the media.
Good stuff Peter!
Mine didn’t have the data cable either, but guess I’m gonna wait now until they roll out the Bluetooth update for M3 and MY.
I haven't heard of the update yet. Keep in mind though, playing music from your BT and a usb drive are two totally different things.
