Did you check for binding in roll? You may wish to consider that, when you put it together, to replace the rear bush of the top arm at the diff housing, with a more easily flexible heim joint. This is because, upon direction change, as the vehicle rolls side to side, even a little, is when the top arm will bind, so it'll try to pick-up/unload the inside rear wheel.
Probably one of the best presentations on RUclips. Considering that you have done it all by yourself quite impressive..no matter what.. I must admit was doubting you at first...but you surpassed that.. Good quality welding, your brackets are great and hand made.. We see so many using CNC to cut...seems to take the fun and hard work away. One appreciates it more using your method. I wish to do the same at some point. The build will be from scratch..jeep XJ rear axle, as you show coil overs four link, but just rear wheel drive. 2.5 diesel engine and a twin leading arms up front probably made up hubs too . Just a 2 seater. Similar to look of an old Bugatti car fish type tail.. That era. But mine will be a soft 60% off roader..and 40%tarmac. Great build keep it up.. Simon a Brit in Spain .
You're a wizard, bro! I can't wait to see the next episode. Congrats for the amazing job and thanks for teaching us how to do. Greetings from a brazilian in Chile.🇧🇷🇨🇱
Looks great. If you're still concerned about the strength of your front crossmember you could always run a brace from the middle one you cut along side the gas tank to tie it all together.
Awesome job for sure. There is an incredible amount of engineering and fabrication that went into your build! Another amazing job you rocked it big time! 👏💪👍
I like the direction you are taking this Austin👍. Pikes Peak or just out cruising and feeling the chassis and power set you back in you seat. Maybe some flare work and a custom air dam/splitter.
Your videos are so enjoyable and you do such great work. I don’t even like these little Hilux trucks but it’s satisfying watching you do want you want with it!
Always a pleasure seeing you work good sir,I have a few project of my own, learned alot from watch you work now I effortlessly work on them, goodwill to you can't wait for your truck to be done, will look amazing
I didn't think u would go low with this one but I knew there was a chance , I love it already man , fenomenal work once again , glad you're able to be a bit creative with this one and mix ashtetics with functionality or less functionality 😅 well will be way better on tarmac , I love it already , I think white wheels will be a cherry on top of the cake later on , meanwhile AVR it 👍
I highly recommend using a heim or some sort of joint that can misalign on the top of the axle. if your axle articulates, your nut will come undone. if you dont want to use a heim, synergy makes these awesome dual durometer bushings that flex very nicely, and don't need grease and done squeak.
Keep in mind some leafsprings were removed, and those bitches aren't light. I would assume overall less than 10lb difference between em, 3 like being heavier.
Awesome work. I’m building an upper 3rd link and mounts on my 2000 4runner to replace the two upper links to eliminate binding and increase articulation. My upper mount will be similar to yours.
Man, I always enjoy watching you. I enjoy your methodical process mostly. I havent ever built a 3 link, but Im wondering if theres a provision for the axle to twist (think one wheel on a curb the other in a pot hole)? Shouldnt the upper link have a spherical joint to allow rotation, or is there enough movement in the system without? Thanks, and keep it up!
Awesome work but the drum rear ancient technology surely you are doing disc brake rear end in Australia know one would go to that trouble and not do disc rear
@@austinniemela over here their is 2 companies making disc conversions one is Pedders the other is hoppers stoppers check out website they can't keep up with the demand for their products
If you search up Guam drags. You will see videos of them racing 22r mini trucks. As I have dreamed of owning a truck like these to have fun. Guam has a huge community of mini trucks.
I just found this channel and I’m digging it. I’ll have to get caught up. How are those bushings holding up for you? I noticed you didn’t put Heim or Duro joints on it.
What's it like working backwards and upside down from your normal projects? lol I have 3 or 4 favorite channels yours being one of course. I watch Fab Rats and they are in Nevada. Everything they do revolves around four wheeling, rock crawling and offroad recovery along with Matt's Off Road Recovery. This is really different watching you do the suspension frame off. Looks so much easier! I've seen those guys weld, bend, ratchet strap broken vehicles in the middle of the desert in some really contorted ways. Pretty crazy and ballsy stuff in their neck of the woods! Looks Great so far! I'm waiting to see if you will keep the grunge! lol
Damn i am super jealous, i need to do this to my truck. Leaf springs cant handle the new power of the s/c. Super excited to see what you do to the front.
Very cool setup! I've never seen a 3link with that upper arm! Eliminates the need for a panhard! I see you have a MIG and a TIG, how do you decide what machine you want to use for what job? Obviously larger jobs are easier with the MIG, but I noticed you welded the links with your TIG. Wondering if maybe that's hotter and that's what distorted the threads maybe?
Those axle brackets are bitchin! The half wishbone , as beefy as you built it, still looks wierd to me not having lateral support on the right side. I feel you should still use a panhard bar. Maybe a watts link.
we build swamp buggies in Florida using a crossmember to a single bar down to the diff that’s adjustable keeps it up for clearance you should build a ripsaw next $$$$
You’ve done a beautiful job as always but I’m not sure about the upper link. I’m not sure how well it will handle the sideways forces on the axle. I think you should move the fuel tank and put in a standard 4 link, attached at the differential centre and chassis rails. Love watching you work though, great attention to detail.
Great video, I'm in awe of your skill and the things you do with the tools you got.
that is some serious engineering going on there!! Great job Austin!
I can't express how epic this is for a static drop. It should ride really nice too ! You might even still be able to haul light loads with it.

You are correct , it will not work like this
Heim joints or it will bind raise one wheel you'll see, it will bend or break stuff or just shagg out bushes quickly. But other than that looks good.

Hey thanks man!
Wow. Awesome work. Great content. Love your Toyota builds. Gets me enthused about mine 👍
Brother God bless you I am impressed amazing drilling hole and pipes bend good work 🎉
If you plan on driving around a corner in the rain at 60 miles an hour sway bar would be best.
Can't wait to see it when it done man. Get the truck wrap man. It will look sick and do sub box built for it too
Absolutely amazing fabrication skill brother..

I just got to find some flares that somewhat fit! And yea something other than the oem front bumper!! I need ideas!!!
How the hell do you not have million of subs?!? Love all your content man, I wish I wasn't on the other side of the States!
Great fab skills. The link setup turned out 👍. When are you going to get a little welding table for you opposed to those ol trusty saw horses aha.
Saw the Instagram pictures of ur welds looking really good, keep it up
Thanks 👍

Yes! I saw that frame coming down on the axle and I was thinking to myself "lower, Lower LOWER!" HAHAHA. Looking good!
Haha it should be low! Hard to tell without a body on the frame!
@@austinniemela yeah it's definitely hard to get a feel without the body but I'm really excited to see it coming together!

That Hilux will ride better than a high end GT! awesome work as usual👍🏼
Thanks I hope so!!
Fantastic job!!! 👌
I’m interested to know if your frame weight increases because of this custom build. Keep up the great work! Thanks for sharing

Thanks man!
Good stuff. Keep after it Austin.

Not a fan of lowered trucks. But still very interested in watching what you do with it. Also I really gotta learn how to weld.
Beautiful work 🤩
Damn i am super jealous, i need to do this to my truck. Leaf springs cant handle the new power of the s/c. Super excited to see what you do to the front.
Great work. It looks like the top mount on the diff is doing the work of a panhard rod is this right ?

Thanks!!
Check out Badlux pickup build, for front ends mods I believe he has some done
Great work man. What about a panhard rod? Whats going to stop the side movement of the axle in this 3 link suspension ? 👍
The wishbone upper link keeps the axle in place
Wishbone upper link would prevent side movement if mounted correctly . Nice work though
@@richardcabrera1176 is mine not mounted correctly?
Austin maybe I missed something what about the side pivoting of the axel from the center of the diff ? hope I put it right.
As a fabricator, I say you know what you're doing.
Looks slick

Do some research on wishbone 3 link! It’s a pretty common setup
3 link Suspension and lowered? Definitely different setup with no panhard bar. Sleeper street racer.
Reminds me of the Derelicts built by ICON. Amazing welds.
Thank you!!
I was skeptical at first but you rocked it
عمل جيد حقاً 👍

I hope it rides good!!
I may have missed it, but what spring rate did you go with on the QA1's?
You've got vision man.
Best project yet. Can’t wait for the next video.
Well Done 👏

If the transmission is pointing 2 degrees down the axle pinion needs to be pointing 2 degrees up.
