  • In todays video we install the Barnes4WD three link suspension kit in the rear of the Chevy S10. We end up getting this on its own weight in this video. Lots of welding, grinding and a little fabrication gets us to our goal. I am using stock rear gladiator coil springs for the rear of this project. It didn't work as planned, but what ever does!

      That was the goal, I wanted metal cloak dual rate springs, but if stock is too high than 2.5” lift will definitely be too high. I am moving on to the front and worrying about springs later, I have lots of options.

      @MuddyBeards4X4  Год назад

      I won’t be making any decisions until the front is done and the whole truck is on its own weight. I don’t really want to go with a shorter spring, I would loose down travel, but we will see.

  • @sloanhulsey745
    @sloanhulsey745 Год назад +1

    Look into airbags. I had the same problem when I linked my yj and wanted to use tj coils. You are limited to just over 9" of travel, I did 4" up and 5" down. I was surprised how well it works and the adjustability was an added benefit. Loaded down or highway use I thow a little extra psi in for stability, get to the trail and air down a bit for flex and comfort. It is a great budget fix for your problem. My setup was supposed to be a band aid until I could afford coilovers, but now I may just run it. I don't do much high speed stuff though, the lack of up travel could bite you in that application I bet.

  • @saddlebag4097
    @saddlebag4097 Год назад +1

    I'm sure you will figure out the coils... only other thing i would maybe change is the lower pan hard mount so the rod end is mounted vertical to get proper throw... It might be fine the way it is.

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  Год назад +1

      Once it is lowered down to the height I want the angles will be fine. I can’t put the axle side mount anywhere where it would be straight up, no room.

  • @FatGreenSheep
    @FatGreenSheep Год назад +1

    May be harder to retain the springs, but I’m wondering if you could put the springs on a slight angle(like coilovers) and then put your upper perches inboard on the frame. Going inboard gives you plenty of height options moving up and down on the frame and a 15 degree angle would give you back a little bit of height as well.

  • @glenn7826
    @glenn7826 Год назад +1

    so, your 4 inch difference is because of the coil spring mounting location on jeeps tend to be inboard or outboard mounted on the frame and on the s-10 you set them under the frame.

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  Год назад

    I’m thinking Tj rear springs would work better. Great video!

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  Год назад

      Thanks, Tj rear springs are not made to carry loads like a truck. Tj’s have very light rears, so the spring rate would not work for a truck with camping gear, bed rack and roof top tent.

    • @Hickeyjones
      @Hickeyjones Год назад +1

      A TJ spring would be too light. Teraflex sells a line of JK springs aimed at Overlander type builds that are designed to carry more weight. The rear coils are a larger diameter like those JT coils, but considerably shorter.

  • @FlawedOffroad
    @FlawedOffroad Год назад +1

    Ive learned when you have the front of truck on jackstands(to the frame, not axle) it can mess up the weight balance and throws all that stuff off and it looked like you had stands under the driver area. . I would try to set the front on ground if you can and see if any weight shifts back to the rear. or at least put the stands exactly where your front springs will be. I had to redo a few things due to that very thing throwing off my measurements.

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  Год назад

      Yup, jack stands on the frame in the front. I can’t set it down in the front because there is nothing there. I am not going to make any final decisions until, like you said I have everything on it and the front on the axle as well. Thanks 👊🏻

    i think the spring rate on those JT springs is about double what you need, find some stock tj front springs.

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  Год назад

      Why do you think the spring rate would be too much? A stock JT is heavier, but only 500-800lbs heavier with a longer wheel base. They are both crew cab trucks with similar frame construction. I don’t think TJ springs would be the right move. My truck is going to have a good amount of weight in the back, with all my gear, rack and rtt.

    • @messix7768
      @messix7768 Год назад

      @@MuddyBeards4X4 the jt weight is about 5k and then 1.2k added for payload, the rated spring rate i would think would be way higher than what your finished build would be. i guess what you really have to look for is what you want for as unload length and to get your full droop and then set frame side for full stuff before coil bind and then go for spring rate. lots of brain hurt'n to do....
