Bought the 2016.5 CX-5 on November 25, 2016. Extremely happy with it too. Great looking car and the gas mileage from the 2.5l engine is superior! Mine is jet black and I get a lot of compliments on it! Very little interior noise and as smooth on the highway as you can get. I am planning on keeping it for over 100 k. Mazda hit a home run on the 2016.5 CX-5!!
As always, it's nice to see KBB has included some details on things most people would not be able to find in other automotive reviews like the sensitive Blind Spot warning system. Thank you for the review!
Next Month it will be 26 yrs and two Mazdas.........yes you have to service them but they are very reliable. 1991 Protege (350000mi) & currently driving 2003 Mazda Protege 5 (330000mi)!!!
I’ve had this used model since July 2020 and I’m still in love with many things this vehicle has to offer. I love the blind spot monitoring and the back up camera. For a larger vehicle, it’s actually pretty fun to drive Something that bothers me greatly is the AC vents. The middle blows three times as hard as the sides and it is unbelievably difficult to feel the air from the sides as opposed to the middle. I’m in Texas so it’s an important feature for me Upgrading from a 2006 Corolla S to this was easy besides the fact that financially I had to forego a sun roof lol definitely missing that aspect of the Corolla but it’s nice to try different things
Thank you for the review! It makes it much easier to see if this car is the right one for me, and I'm sure it is. I can't wait to look at a few tomorrow!
Great camerawork on this review. All Cotu's camera tools worked really well, good editing and the fun information complementing the whole video. Excellent work!
I just purchased my 2016 Mazda CX-5 with 35k miles about two weeks ago and I already bought wheels and off road tires for her and she is just beautiful.
We leasing '16 grand touring, so far so good! we also looked at Rav4, Escape and Equinox. Other than Escape having more power w/ ecoboost, CX-5 came out the winner in our opinion. The other 3 had noticeable quality issues, which was the biggest factor. Besides quality, CX-5 also had the best handling.
for 2016 CX%, can anyone tell me the difference in light output of the LED headlights vs the more traditional Halogen headlights? I know the LED's have advantages but I won't get them unless they provide significantly more light output.
My 2016 CX-5 is only getting 22.9 mpg with about half of it highway driving, is there something wrong with my car? I don't know when it started but whenever I would take my foot off the gas, it makes this scratchy metallic noise, is that from the transmission?
David Cuccia Reasonable question. The logo was small enough in that it's presence didn't seem overt. In-n-Out fans will definitely recognize it but for the unfamiliar it's just background fodder.

2016 CX-5 GPS PROBLEM Does any body know when Mazda will resolve the real-time "traffic update" feature on its new (2016) NAVTEC GPS for the CX-5? The option doesn't work (it is gray), so alternate route(s) are not displayed when traffic delays, congestion, accidents, detours, road construction, etc. are encountered on a planned route. On the previous CX-5 models (2014; 2015), the TomTom feature was called "traffic alert" and it worked (most of the time).
I’ve owned my Mazda 3 for 10 years and it’s been the lowest maintenance reliable car I’ve ever owned. I have done routine things as they wear out but everything has lasted what the auto industry said it would. eg. brake pads, shocks, tires, spark plugs Mine is one of the “Ford” models but was made and built in Japan which i think made the difference.
I should have bought this car instead of the 2015 ford escape. It is good, but i can already hear some winds leaking through the door after 2 months/1500miles.
tnductai Just wait til it starts leaking water on a rainy day! I have all sorts of problems with my Ford Mustang just months after buying it. Poor build quality is a Ford trademark.

I was wondering, I’m buying 2016 Cx-5 touring from a dealer, I noticed the pictures that the dealer posted for the car have a seat heater button that is mounted on the seat itself. When I checked all the other 2016 Cx-5 seat heater button, they are mounted on the dash above the climate control system. Is there such a thing, or the dealer just adding fake heated seats button to excite the customer in the Cold winters in MN? Lol
To different kind of cars. The Subie will be reliable many years into the future. The Mazda and Ford Escape will eventually fall apart. Good drivetrain but, sunroof will leak and everything inside will break.
MrTheSetter Oh please I went to a Subaru dealership that had a slightly used Subaru with sun roof and when I went to look inside it was all wet and the headliner was soaked with a musty smell . does that mean all subies are like that ? probably not but neither is every Mazda or Ford a lemon also. I still see a few Mazda proteges on the road where I live and alot of 3's and Ford Focus too.
Don Gemus I live in Calgary and the Subaru Forester is rarer than a Tesla Model S here. In my opinion, the Forester is not stylish, not fuel economic and not sporty. It has as much trouble fitting in as Lincoln or Acura.
True, not stylish by choice. It is all wheel drive and does great off road and in the snow. But the big deal is it was compact SUV of the year... I think more awarded than any others, so why no comparison in it's own class

+XxMetalGorxX Driving in North America is unlike Germany. Few cars have tires rated for sustained high speeds. Max. posted limits average 110kph. From Vancouver,B.C. to New York takes Four days of driving well over the speed limits [ 3,300 MILES]. Cruising at 200kph would result in arrest AND JAIL.
JD Powers just rated the CX5 2 of 5 in overall quality & reliability. this is a low rating, especially compared to the Toyota Rav4. Is Mazda quality really that poor? I've always thought of all Japanese cars as having good to great quality. Thanks.
JG i have 90k miles Mazda 6 and i can say it is a good quality than some American cars. yes i can assure that bec i used to be a service advisor from an American car dealership.

Samuel Campana Never used sport mode. I use 87 Octane either shell or Arco. I also drive very smooth. come from 2012 Mazda which had amazing MPG so this is frustrating.
irandoosty ah I've never like Shell but never heard of Arco where I'm at, which model do you have? Was it brand new?, bc it matters a lot the first 500 miles for break in and how the system will perform MPG wise.
Samuel Campana I have 2016 GT FWD Tech Package sonic silver. I bought it brand new . I have around 600 miles on it and I do mostly city driving. What MPG do you get?
Not quite sold on this yet. I could almost forgive that "too long" looking hood area if this car came with a manual transmission in AWD and the 2.5 liter engine. I might be able to forgive the manual transmission ONLY being available with the smaller engine but then I'm stuck with that long front end snout which is two strikes in a row. I think Mazda should work on "Cab-Forward Design" with some of their newer models like the CX-3 and CX-5 so that the front end doesn't take up so much of the total length of the car. A shorter front end would not only add to interior cabin room but also give the car a more balanced appearance.
You're dead on about the hood being too long and not portion to the rest of the vehicle. Glade I wasn't the only one who think the front end snout is not quite there.
Can anyone tell me how the air conditioning is on the 2016 CX-5? It's very hot in the summer where I live, and if I understand correctly, there are no a/c vents for the rear as in many other vehicles.
+chewsir Thanks for your reply. I have bought a different make car which does have vents in the rear, but I'm not sure how much it helps, because the front vents blow very forcefully and the rear vents only get "leftover" force. I'll keep your information in mind for next year, though! I bought an entry level, front wheel drive other make wagon because I was desperate with my old car failing while I vacillated. :o) Maybe next year the CUV!
Unfair MAZDA, you have stepped in in the exterior LED lighting ESPECIALLY the fog lamps being LED what a LIGHT! WIth he exception of the rear seating non USB/AC ports or adjustable seats in rear its definitely getting there. Now just bring that front nav size to BMW size or BIGGER (theres a lot of room for a 12" like mercedes:) but great on the 3d nav maps:)
+Sky Trooper Noooo....definitely it's a compact SUV (or CUV). Large SUVs...you're talking Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, Chevy Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, etc.
The base sport trim with a manual transmission comes with a 2.0 liter. All trims with the automatic transmission come with the 2.5 l not a 2.4 l as reported in this video.

Missed the best refresh of all......the more powerful 2.5, 4 is now standard...184hp VS the 2.0's 155hp. The 2.5 is the ONLY engine used now.
The cx-5 has a nice simple design to it. Not bland at all
Still no manual gearbox with AWD option...
Get a Subaru Forester if that's what you're asking.
Can anyone tell me how the air conditioning is on the 2016 CX-5? It's very hot in the summer where I live, and if I understand correctly, there are no a/c vents for the rear as in many other vehicles.
Depends which area you live in AND your budget.
GoosedOff&Friends What does my budget have to do with the air conditioning on this vehicle?
+mssmssmssmss The AC is VERY powerful.
+chewsir Does it have a CD player?
Your merely mortal 5'10 frame makes every car look spacious
How tall are you? 7`11?
+Waffaw e hahaha haha, that's a good answer
7'12" ha ha
He's 5'8 but 6'2 wide.
5:08 KBB didn't want to give free advertising to In-n-out burger haha
+David S I love how they did that but the logo on the building itself is still completely visible, LOL
I thought this is considered large SUV?
+Sky Trooper Noooo....definitely it's a compact SUV (or CUV). Large SUVs...you're talking Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, Chevy Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, etc.

yeah I figured its the wrong model cause it looks almost like the CX-9 which is the large version.
I'm sorry but this thing looks like it's stuck in 2011 and the full silver paint and the horrible cladding doesn't help one bit .
2:58 🤘🏻
All Cx-5 come with a 2.5 L standard**
The base sport trim with a manual transmission comes with a 2.0 liter. All trims with the automatic transmission come with the 2.5 l not a 2.4 l as reported in this video.
The this is the best model
i dont know if buying a cx5 or a Volkswagen Tiguan
+Alpo RedSpider TEST DRIVE BOTH OF THEM.
+Alpo RedSpider i have the same issue and i haven't make the test drive yet. can you please tell which one did u get ?
+Alpo RedSpider cx-5 because tiguan has long term problem with dsg and tsi engines google it.

"CHEVY" = many products, "Corvette " = sportscar. BMW,BENZ. neither makes ONE car recommended here because of terrible reliability . My Beemer 3 was fun to drive but a nightmare of electrical problems. My friends Mini is ok so far but its brand new.
beemers = motorcycles; bimmers = cars
This guy is hilarious 😂
Thích chiếc này cho loại 7 chỗ tôi chọn !
you didn't compare to Hyundai and Kia
Nice car..under powered engine. If you have to drive up hill a lot, V6 all the way.
Dash and gauge assembly is dealbreaker for me, looks ugly...not a good review by KB being they focused on creating a fairy tale story script than doing a good in depth review.
he didn't even talk a bout engine
Great car. You just need to replace the A/C Blower every couple of years.
Is it that expensive? I don’t know if I should buy one.
@@karle0822 The OEM one costs around $170. You can order a good quality aftermarket one for about $50 to $80 from RockAuto. And you can install it yourself, just watch a RUclips video on how to do it. As I said earlier, the car is great and I would buy it again. You can buy 2017+ model years as the blower on those is not the same as the 2016 and earlier years.
But it has no power
What car reviewers scream like that? I should be watching them.
***** Consumer Reports P85D review comes to mind...
***** Chris Harris, and the guys from Evo
Is that the grand touring? Cause this one looks fucking hideous

Meh...these compact SUVs are too feminine. Not my cup of tea.
chancy319 your name sounds feminine.
chancy319
gayie.
yeah I bought one.. after few years I'm going to get Nissan, Ford or chevrolet instead. Mazda bumass japanese vehicles and terrible customer service with bad maintenance service. Never again.
Weeeeee!
(That's wheee!)
Blah looking
Stop looking in the mirror.
KBB is supposed to be about quality. What is the matter with this man reviewing this? It is unwatchable.
