  • As Mazda's best-selling vehicle in its US line-up, the 2016 CX-5 refresh is one of the most important updates made this year. It's slick combination of fun driving dynamics, impressive fuel-efficiency, and a nicely appointed cabin make this 2016 model one of the best compact SUV's on the market. Only those who favor a softer ride and more power may find some competing rivals more appealing.

    Just purchased this vehicle! Red color and black interior I love it. I was looking at 2018 but I liked the look of the 2016 better. I’m 21 and the first vehicle I financed so you can say I’m really happy with my purchase. I’m a mom too and I hate bigger vehicles. My previous car was a Mazda 3 2009 sedan that I paid cash for in 2015. It had 140,000 when I bought and this four years I had it not a single issue. That’s why I decided I wanted to continue with Mazda.

      The cam is good for when your recording yourself in the driver seat but too high up when it's on your head. The fisheye lens is good for the b-roll footage but not as a primary cam when moving around the vehicle and talking. Other than all that, the video is still solid and very informative as usual!

    the CX 5 is fantastic! everything said in the review is pretty spot on. I chose the CX 5 over the Acura RDX. While the Acura had more of a luxury feel, the overall ride and handling was flat and numb. The Mazda a far more sporty fun ride and has everything you need in a crossover.

I traded in a 2008 Equinox V-6 with 185 hp that was averaging 20.3 mpg if memory is correct. This Skyactiv 4cyl with 184hp is averaging 27.2 mpg. Very impressed and you are right,the engine is fine for 99% of the driving a "normal" driver does.

    I bought a 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 Sport back in July '18 with 4K miles. It now has 22K miles. Overall, I love this vehicle. PROS: Sport Mode, I just turn it on whenever I need that extra boost going up a steep on-ramp or merging onto a freeway. It's probably my favorite part about the vehicle. With that said, acceleration feels strong even without sport mode. The seats are very comfortable, and on a recent roadtrip I didn't feel fatigued at all. Suspension rides a bit stiff but I like it. --and now onto CONS: I dont like the engine noise or the transmission noise, specially on startup, it sounds like an old Ford power steering noise, ugh. Also when idling, I can hear AND feel the AC compressor coming on and off. There's some rattling noise in the trunk that I cant pinpoint. Brakes squeak at times. Lastly, totally not the car's fault, but washing it and keeping the black interior inside clean is a battle that's raged on since I purchased it.

    • @orlandos2000
      @orlandos2000 4 года назад +1

      dmascorro76 I have the 2016.5 Touring and can also hear and feel the AC compressor. It is quite annoying. Also, cabin noise when on the highway is quite loud. I did get the optional Bose sound system so that does help somewhat. Otherwise, I love the way it drives and handles. I just reached 20k miles and it drives just as good as it did when I first bought it. By the way, I recently test drove a 2019 and I have to admit, I like the 2016.5 better. Not sure why but it just feels more solid and fun to drive.

    Only have refilled my new CX-5 Touring once, so take that with a grain of salt. Did lots of research prior to buying this car..Wife, even made an excel speadsheet to compare Outback, Rav 4 and CX-5. There is little to no road noise.. Plus most of us listen to music anyways.. Wish it had more cargo room, and memory seats, but I can't complain for the price, including technology package. Love the power, where power is needed, smooth ride and look. FYI, free navigation updates for 3 years. Bose stereo sounds incredible and now don't mind being stuck in traffic! Test drive one, you won't be disappointed. One more thing, read and watch all the popular review forums, sites, youtube. They are not being paid to praise how well Mazda has done on their 2016 CX-5.

    Nice Review! Also I think the reason the moon roof doesn't AUTO close is so that if anyone stuck their head out and someone accidentally tried to close it they wouldn't get their head stuck in the moon roof. Not something that happens everyday but I know I have stuck my head out of the moon roof when I was younger so I guess it makes sense.

    Nice review, but the reviewer made an error when describing the fold down seats in the back. They are not a 60-40 split...but actually 40-20-40 split, which is more upscale and nice for those families who haul long items, such as skis or snowboards in the car.

One thing I wanted to point out however is you mentioned that the seats are a 60/40 split when in fact they are a 40/20/40 split in the GT model and are 60/40 in the entry level model (which is a GX up here in Canada) other than that you did an excellent job of pointing out the features of the Mazda CX5.

    You mentioned intelligent access. Does the 2016 grand touring have intelligent access? Will the car unlock if the key is within a certain proximity?

    2016 CX-5 GPS PROBLEM Does any body know when Mazda will resolve the real-time "traffic update" feature on its new (2016) NAVTEC GPS for the CX-5? The option doesn't work (it is gray), so alternate route(s) are not displayed when traffic delays, congestion, accidents, detours, road construction, etc. are encountered on a planned route.On the previous CX-5 models (2014; 2015), the TomTom feature was called "traffic alert" and it worked (most of the time).

    I know this isn't the case, but why most reviewers prefer the manual transmission over the auto?

    • @ZapCannon5
      @ZapCannon5 7 лет назад

      Nam Phan it's because a manual transmission is a more involved experience and you're more in control over how the engine performs. I prefer manual transmissions, but I will say, a well tuned automatic is hard to beat.

    CX5 or mazda3 hatch? I love both but the CX5 has a bit more space but the 3 hatch looks better overall and it has a HUD, sure not the best but at least you have one. Which one would you think is more refined? And which would you rather own

    While I do appreciate your dedication to improve the quality of your videos, this one felt particularly... subpar (is probably the word I'm looking for).
    First off, the fact that the view feels like one of those montages that skateboard video editors use makes it feel like I'm going to throw up because of all the motion and the wide angled views.
    Second off, everything is not as clear as it used to be with your old methods. You would mostly see, as many people pointed out, your head, and barely any of the car due to how high the camera is now.
    On the flip-side, the quality is definitely improved and it feels much smoother than your older videos. It also doesn't feel like the car is gigantic than it is in person.
    Overall, the change in camera equipment is great, but please address the issues as soon as you can.

    I understand that Sofyan is being more professional with his reviews. However, I miss the days when he would hold the camera the entire time. When you combine that with Sofyan's attention to detail, it allows the viewer to get that first person perspective; we actually feel like we're sitting in the car and we can create a more accurate opinion based on that. If you can somehow find a balance between the professional presentation and the first-person experience, the reviews would be damn near perfect. With that being said, the team has come a long way with this channel!

    I think, it is better to just hold the camera when you're just showing the interior/exterior of the car. POV style is good when you driving.

    IMO, the only thing missing is the power rear lift gate. The Grand Touring should include that since all of the competitors have it in their top trim level.

    Nice review, bro. I think you should have also mentioned the "manual" mode on the automatic transmissions, as well as the little "sport" button that gives the car an added kick in the pants for passing, etc.

    In my opinion, I feel the music during the opening shots of your videos tends to be a bit overzealous... I'm also not sure if I like the new camera being used - it has such a wide angle lens that things appear quite distorted.

    Really looking at the cx-5 gt as a top 3 option for a daily driver. I live with twisty hilly roads and lots of deer. a bit of snow in the winter and a big hill to my driveway. I'm stuck if I want this or a BMW x5 (used) or a Subaru wrx (2011 hatchback of course.) This is the most reasonable vehicle for me to get, I just hate paying brand new prices and loosing what is it, 15%? 30% of the value when you drive it off the lot... The 2016 has some nice touches that I appreciate over the previous models. Great review! Thanks!

      +EJL2004 The 2016.5 just came out about a month ago. They made some of the features standard on the touring model that the Gt had. . Anything Mazda makes is usually beautiful in the twisty roads and hills. We got the touring model.

    I enjoy many of your reviews. The only issue I have is that the camera behind you allows the rear view mirror block off a major portion of the road view. The camera should be moved further to the left side, directly behind you, as if it's the driver's view. Thanks.

    The intro music keeps playing even after you start talking, and I don't like the headmounted fisheye eyebrowcam either. You should switch back to what you used to do it was fine. Otherwise good review as usual and explains the differences from 2015 (seems not much). I appreciate your style of review - you notice the stuff that I do and I like that you actually look at features AND drive the car - as opposed to what the many other hamfisted reviewers do. Considering getting one of these or same year Rogue.

    Being a owner of a 2006 Mazda3 Sport GT for almost 10 years, I wish I could stay in the Mazda family with the purchase of this CX-5 but unfortunately, due to the fact I had to have the moonroof when going with the 2.5L engine and it felt sluggish with 4 adults + baggages, I ended up with an 2016 Ford Escape AWD with the 2.0L EcoBoost.

    I see Mazda replaced the head unit in the Cx5 from around 2014-15 this particular model year, like the mazda 6 from those same years (with the same one that's BEEN in the 3's since 2014)... but it looks like they didn't completely redo at half the dash like the 2016/17 6's...
    But can I personally buy a 2014/15 Mazda 6 and pay to replace the stock infotainment unit with the one that's been in ALL Mazdas for the couple years??? Because that previous system seemed funky IMO when compared to the current one, but would like to maybe save a couple grand on the car purchase, if I can at the time I'm typing this...
