In my eyes, it actually looks smaller than the previous car, despite the fact that it is bigger.
Ive seen a few gts irl and honestly the changes are very wellcome!!!! What worried me the most wqs the rear lights and the awd sistem (but this one you can "turn off" and put all power on the rears)
The proportionally long hood is gone
14:19 the diffuser looks like the back of a McLaren Artura 😂 I can’t unsee it now
Maybe because of the 2+2 seat taking more room in the car makes the hood shorter
I loved the long hood from the previous generation. The new car is gorgeous but that's my only gripe
This looks like a 911 but without being rear-engined it doesn’t look too butt heavy like the 911 (also I loooove the long bonnet this car is a beauty)
@Jerome-mc7ij What about Jesus Christ the son of God?
Comparing any 2door to a 911 (within the price range, of course) is a tough sell. The rear engine in the 911 (as bad as a design it is) - gives it a very playful characteristic. It is its own animal. Unlike the 930 days when you basically had a pendulum behind your back - its so refined that you can have both compliance and playfulness.
This weighs more than a M5 Comp and is far less practical.
I have to admit tho -it pretty! :)
My bet is that cost of ownership will suck and this will plummet like a rock in the 2nd market, like any merc before it (with some rare exceptions ofc)
That's what I saw as well, very porschy
I love the new trend of having eye liner/ eye shadow on the rear lights! It gives the car that slight bit of aggression and style!
The rear is interesting, I like how it has 3 individual lights sticking out. The new Lamborghini Lanzador does the same
@@ccalvinn I know! It seems to be the new trend with Luxury/ sport car brands! And honestly it’s one of the good trends to come out of car design.
I like the merc stars in the rear lights of the new E-class merc, so gimmicky
I've absolutely loved Mercedes's long hoods ever since I first saw the Mercedes-McLaren SLR. Really hope they'll give us another extremely long hood supercar before ICEs are gone
This new 'AMG GT' is really butchered down the legacy of front-mid engine the Mercedes' halo cars have since SLR, SLS, and the previous AMG GT
Im pretty sure there will be an electrified version of the AMG GT
@@madzee8139 the new AMG GT has evolved enough to lose its long hood aesthetic, as noted by others as well. And also there's been an electric SLS, just not a very good one
Do we even think ICE cars will be gone? I don't. I'm pretty certain we'll see a varied mix of drivetrains on the streets of our future, and combustion engines will be among them.
There are just too many people who have an interest in keeping ICE cars alive, in the end we'll just switch to e-fuels and that's that.
And at the same time there will be people who'll drive electric cars and will be happy with those.
just my opinion but I never liked the long hood. Makes it look like the beast car with the 27 liter engine. This new one fixed the proportions beautifully
The new one looks so much like a Porsche from the side haha
From what I understood from a video presenting the car at carwow, the A pillar is 9cm forward (not sure if compared to the old gt or the new sl), to accommodate rear seats. And the 911 turbo S was clearly their benchmark too. I like the new design, but still prefer the old one with the extra long nose, love the uniqueness it gives, and it's one of my bucket list cars. The new one is beautiful too, but the bar was just so high.
I would need to look at it 3 times from the back to distinguish whether its a Merc or a Porsche. But I mean they are neighbours😏
They kidnapped a Porsche, hacked it up making it front engines, and fed it angry pills
@@BARelement But always let him sit beside the engineers with a luxury set of suit on them.
They share a platform for sure.
It looks nothing like a Porsche 😂
Are you guys legally blind or something?
I wish the greenhouse looked more like an SLS than an f type.
Pretty sure your picture of the “2016 GT” is actually the facelift, but I think the only major change was the headlights on the exterior.
I was so worried about how Mercedes would butcher this update like they have basically every other car in their lineup, but I’m genuinely pleased!
yeah i thought the same too
His pic is definitely not of the 2016 model but rather the 2020 model
yep. Exterior facelift happened in 2018. The interior he's comparing is also 2018-19. I believe in2020, steering wheel changed, NAV screen got bigger, and center console knobs were replaced with buttons.
The car is ruined from an exotic to just a regular car, Engine moved forward and seat s in rear.. terrible decision. It just another SL now
It's so beautiful. Mercedes always delivers in design.. well except for their EV's
it looks like porsche rear with mercedes front
😂
Bmw z4 front/jag f type front
The long hood with two seats is what makes the GT unique.
100% this new GT is definitely a nice car but nothing like the old one I think I’m going to be keeping my 2021 for now I don’t see myself buying this new GT I rather keep mines or get something else
headlights remind me of a z4 from bmw and rear end seems like a 911. But it looks nice
You’re just repeating dumbass comments you see on social media. Looks nothing like a z4
From the front, almost indistinguishable from the Z4, I liked the older design
From a side profile, A-pillar back is all Porsche 😅
also rear lights
Yes
The original design had some very minor proportion issues (rear end dips slightly too low in profile view) but this new one is completely flawless ❤
@Jerome-mc7ij If Allah is the all powerful god, why does he need to resort to the youtube comments section to promote himself? 😂😂😂
First time in my life I like the design of the AMG GT. Something about that rear end and probably also the heavy Porsche influence.
Those big ass screens they have now is just wild looking
They put them in every car now because it's cheaper than designing and engineering buttons.
I have seen it when it was released, and I have to say I am super impressed. Superb looking car! BMW really gotta step up now
Meh BMW don’t have to worry if this what they’re doing lol.
@@BARelement sooo wrong
@@BARelement denial is crazy
BMW sadly doesn't even have a competitor to this. It's kind of sad that a brand that fancies itself a "sporty" brand doesn't build a single purpose built sports car or GT. All they do is make sports versions of existing normal cars. The BMW XM should've been something like this AMG GT imo.
@@cy9nvs Well they don’t need one to prove them but hey they should definitely make one on purpose to symbolise with their sporty principles and yes a XM would have been just better as a GT with classy styling ✌️✌️
The shorter hood is a huge screw up IMO. I think the Amg gt is supposed to be the replacement for the SLS. Both of these models are supposed to be the super cars in the line up and they’ve always taken cues from the sl300 gull wing. That super long hood is so important, and it’s okay to compromise on passenger capacity in a car like this. To me, it’s a huge misstep to make the roof more bubbly/round on top and make the back window really big as if accommodating for non-existent rear passengers when it’s not consistent with the purpose of the car. I always liked in the SLS how the hood was even more exaggerated than the gt, it always looks crazy when you see it. So this makes the car look more pedestrian and removes its identity in my eyes. Even if the graphics and lines are better, the greenhouse position makes me sad. Bit of a missed opportunity. Threw their halo poster car in the standard sports car bin. No longer an aspirational thing when it looks so typical like this.
never liked the long hood on the amg gt anyway. It made it look like some cartoon car
One of the most beautiful cars in the last 5 years.
When it comes to the proportions of the new AMG GT, they did increase the size of the car ever so slightly to further maximize the practicality. The wheelbase has been extended and the cabin has also been increased to create more headroom for the driver and passenger as well as making the AMG GT a 2+2 instead of a two-seater like the first gen GT.
I also prefer the rear of the new AMG GT. This is not to say that I think the rear end of the first-gen GT was bad but from certain angles, especially from a straight rear view, it looked as if it was squished and bulbous and didn't have room to breathe. This was especially apparent on the Roadster variants of the AMG GT and less so on the Coupes. Although, the GT-R Roadster doesn't look as offputting due to the rear wing adding some for of visual height to the rear-end.
This looks like a 911 from a rear 3/4 view. I still like it, perhaps even more so than the 911.
I think the front end was a good update from the last gen and overall it looks great. I do think it looks a lot like a 911 with the side and rear profiles, and though I do prefer the old gen's timeless design, I cant lie, this still surprisingly looks great.
Yeah, my feelings as well. I prefer the timeless proportions/ design even of the 2014 model, but this still looks incredible despite the fundamental differences
@Jerome-mc7ij Hey bud, I believe in Jesus Christ
11:18 Let me first say, that I really like it. Secondly, it really does have a very 911 overall shape, with a front that is obviously longer, to house the engine. If you were to push in the front, and put a 911 fascia on it, and lower the rear some, while giving it a similarly 911 treatment... Yep. It'd be pretty close.
Still, I love the new design. Porsche does make some very light-looking vehicles, with their curvy shoulderlines. This is doing the same. Personally, the shorter/lower nose, making it look less like a throwback to the Duesengerg-era, being more athletic, is really welcome!
That smooth, curvey (albiet, "Porsche-esk") shoulderline, combined with the low nose, is the real standout winner for me.
My only problems are the overly angled and weak headlights. Especially the dotted design ruins it for me
agree
It looks like a mix of the BMW Z4 & a Porsche 911. Still beautiful.
Please do a video, updating an SLK with GT styling and graphics, it already has the proportions.
Absolutely love the looks of the car the problem is it doesn't seem to be so original as it just looks like a Porche from the side profile and I wished they kept the length of the hood as that was pretty original for an AMG GT
11:16 the a pillars for saftey are supposed to line up as close to the center front wheels
Mercedes AMG 911 GT SL 63
Excellent design analysis, as always! Personally, I do prefer the first generation design with the more pronounced front hood length. I don’t know why Mercedes inserted the unusable rear seats to compete with the 911’s, also unusable rear seats, thereby loosing a bit of its unique long hood proportions. I feel like the AMG GT was a great alternative to the 911, but now they’re both moving progressively closer to the middle.
This thing, in and out, looks amazing. The front, the rear, the sides, the deep trunk, the aero kit, the interior, the interior door panels... I don't even want to find something wrong with it because I want to keep that sweet admiration for it as long as I can 😂😂 very well designed automobile.
beautiful car, i love the new rear lights and front lights but im really disappointed about the fact that we dont have anymore this awesome feeling with the long hood
When the 2020 AMG GT mates with 2020 911 turbo s, = 2024 AMG GT
Idk it's just me or what, the headlamp looks too beautiful to be a Mercedes GT. Earlier Merc GTs were angry looking, this one looks tamed. And the headlights somehow remind me of BMW Z4
Yup, mercedes took inspiration from all over germany, z4 style headlamps, 911 silhouette, 911 rear end, 911 seat config, 911 drive config, it's basically a front mid engined porsche😂
Exactly, previous one had its long bonnet which was so iconic. Now it seems it is suffering from a mid life crisis. It is a beautiful car, but not quite merc GT
Hi dude, like your technical analysis, would it be possible if you did the zenvo aurora models at some point?
Mercedes have knocked it out of the park, R8 is gone, with this car you can’t miss the R8!
R8 with V10 will always have its own charm 😥😥
I'm so glad they made the hood look shorter. I never liked how long the front looked on the sls amg or the amg gt. It made it look like the custom made car with the 27 liter bomber engine called the beast I think. This is probably one of the best looking modern Mercedes out there
now it's a very good looking but regular luxurious criminally heavy coupe, it has gained more than 400 lbs. And the previous one was a front-mid engine car like dodge viper or Ferrari 812.
This is also front mid engined. Engine is behind the front axle.
@@JustSomeGuyWithNoMaidens i have a good optometrist for you
I'm not into Mercs and don't care about them TBH, but this one...this one is AMAZING! Maybe the first Merc I would've want to own
A big improvement in general. Shame about the rear bumper area.
I can be wrong, but I always feel that Mercedes rear lights are emotionless
8:43 does tie into the rear though
It’s very good looking the new GT, really like it compared to the old one.
But man, I know you are from Sweden, but come on, give your blessing on new zenvo, me and the rest of Denmark and the world wants to hear your opinions
I personally really don't like it. I miss the long hood and simpler design. To me it just looks like a regular Mercedes, the previous model, together with the SLS, felt more like a stand alone car.
And yes, it does look like a front engine 911.
Design aside, but technically this car is a downgrade compared to its predecessor.
- DCT -> Converter Transmission
- 1700 -> 1950kg
- Ditched Trans-Axle
- Engine moved further to/ over the front-axle
- „Normalised“ the design and proportions which lets it lose its uniqueness compared to its competitors.
Objectively it will be a great car for sure. And I can understand that they did this to reach a broader range of customers.
But in terms of a worthy predecessor to an AMG GT it just doesn’t work.
Holy shit that car is beautiful!
The front end is heavily adapted from the GT Black Series, that gives the model line continuity as the last of the old generation to bridge the design language into the new generation. I do miss the long old hood though, reminds me of the Viper which screams muscle car, that shape has incredible road presence
The long hood on old one makes TONS of character. This car was redesigned on budget and absolutely shows it. Come on folks! This is not nearly as unique as the previous car
Someone may have already mentioned this, but the angle of the screen could have been to ameliorate the awkward ignition button. Apparently, it’s slightly difficult to get one’s hand between the steering wheel and the screen to turn the car on. With that said, I’d rather have the awkward UI than the wonky placement. Adore this car and definitely “need” one!!
The Mercedes GT, Rolls Royce Droptail, and the Mustang GTD are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I like the new details, but not the lengthened cabin. They should have left out the rear seats and left the A-pillar where it was.
Love ur design review videos man!!
Can you make a video on the Hyundai Grandeur please? Thanks!!
Thanks to the video about thousands gorgeous piece of automotive art.
Since the AMG GT is now with this generation the sister model to the AMG SL, a comparison between this cars would be also very interesting for me. Looks that they completely took the SL’s interior to the GT, while making bigger changes to the exterior. I expect them to have the same wheelbase and lots under the surface. But do they use identical body parts? (Door panels, engine hood, windows?) Is the inner piece of the grill without the extension perhaps identical to that used in the SL?
I cannot believe what they did; they turned an awesome design into what I now consider the ultimate dreamcar. True it looks more like 911 proportions but there is no shame in that. I think it just looks much classier now, the previous version was an obvious hooligan. What a sweet car it must be such a great thing to own one.
Just a stunning piece of machinery ❤
Its the SL really with a new name
You're as excited as I was when I first saw it! It reminds me of the retro looks of the Gullwing and Corvette and that's a massive compliment. As you say, timeless design. I rate this one is going to age very well!
Absolutely beautiful. Can't believe this is the the same company that made the EQ models🤣
bro you overanalyze it, it's an SL with a roof, not a redesigned 2016 AMG GT
From the outside, great design. For the interior, I prefer the previous generation. The centre console and the arrangement of its buttons gives me more the feeling of controlling a very capable machine; a touchscreen will never give me that feeling.
Rear looks like a Porsche 911!?!
In my opinion, duck tail will be a better look for the rear end instead of the big spoiler..
BMW please takes notes on how to create or improve the design not to destroy the whole design with adding some disgusting pieces (like the oinks, Lego, and Camry rear) 🙂🙂🙂
I still think nothing beats the sls
I think the proportions might be off because it's on the new SL chassis, which also explains why they have the exact same interior, which is also a bit disappointing imo.
Dude, the headlights look exactly as the ones in the BMW Z4
From some angles it looks like a Porsche GT3. Love it!
Finally, the Jaguar F-Type has a challenger in the beauty division
I love this thing. Its a direct comparison to the LC coupe with DHP which is what i have. 471hp w/ my 2UR-GSE vs this 469 and yea the DHP has rear wheel steer and active arrow. PPL rag on that car because on paper its not "fast" if your a fast driver like me its a fast ass car. I street race in it all the time and have fun taking down scat packs, gts, ss, base 911, f type, civic type r, wrx, golf r I'm sure i missed a few. You can make 2 gen ago ZO6's sweat snap a GTR's neck off guard. I mean yea it wont tackle a 911S but even the big dogs have a hard time hooking up so you can spank red eyes on the right tarmac for a split second until they connect which might give you all you need in a street race. I don't have AWD and that would be nice with more power seen here. So i approve of this car.
It's pretty but the rear is too similar to the Porsches
I hate the rear wing. It looks like something from autozone. Just do a nice body color, subtle lip spoiler and keep the rear graceful with and edge.
We want to see the black series version of this rendered!
The angled screen drives me crazy too!! All non-c-class vehicles it's symmetrical. Makes noooo sense. Arg.
The front quarter shot gives big GR86 vibes
SPECTACULAR!!!! They made the AMG grill quite a bit more pronounced, very similar to the Aston Martin DB12, or the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera (I like the this car better that both the Aston Martin cars). Too bad there won't be a drop top version of this bad boy. Breathtaking!!!
Buying one, I was thinking of getting a GT R after I came back from Monterey car week, but this is just amazing
I'm pretty sure the diffusers are not functional. 99% of the diffusers you see on cars are just decorative and only extend a few inches beneath the car. Beautiful design regardless.
15:05 man looks sooo much a 911 XD
This is an absolutely perfect car.
The 911 has always been an aspirational car... until now (record screech!). Simple reason for me? Actually having access to the engine! I know, I currently drive a Cayman ;-)
I’ve never been a fan for the AMG GT. This is an improvement though.
"...existing customers who wanted more practicality."
Who the hell bought the old one for reasons of practicality? What about those of us who DON'T expect our sports cars to have useless extra seats, larger dimensions and more weight?
That side profile looked kinda like a merc combines with a Porsche cayman back half... 😅
I did not like current sl model because it looks like any other Mercedes didnot feel any specialty in look but I love the look of the gt63 coupe because it is spacious like gt car and looks like a supercar with unique flagship Mercedes touch but only con compared to previous gt is the interior. The previous one has more physical button but still looks good
Looks awesome but is an 4WD-only elephant. They have tons of fast cars and then they built a real sportscar with the original AMG GT and now they killed that. What a shame.
Are you going to review the new Zenvo design?
I have a feeling this GT will be more susceiptible to depreciation than Hts predecessor.
It looks like a Porsche in the back
Could you review Cupra Formentor? It has a really great design :)
BMW should take notes on how to update a car design
What? To do Z4 headlights, and a oracle ripped rear end? 😂HAHAHAH
@@BARelementbut BMW don’t have super cars and hyper cars
@@BARelement I meant car design they get uglier every model
Front the side view it looks like a mustang 911 hybrid to me. Still a great design
They've named this an AMG GT63 so not a direct replacement for the GT, GTS, GTC it's also to heavy to be a track weapon so maybe it's more related to GT63 4 door ?
Am I the only one that kinda sees a GT86 as well as a 911?
Beautiful design but I think I prefer the long hood previous generation
SLS AMG still the best
I cant wait to get one :)
Nice new Mercedes 911
This car is soooooo clean. It’s like a cooler 911
It looks like what I imagined the MKV Supra would
For me the taillights ruin it all. They're too thin and really wide. Combined with the super rounded housings they look like they should be on an EQ model. Apart from that, it's a nice evolution. Finally, well done Mercedes!
