- On this video I'll be upgrading my old crusty, musty, dusty and rusty steering wheel to an updated one from a VW Golf/Jetta/Polo/Tiguan/Amarok Mk6 to Mk7 models. I chose this steering wheel because firstly, it looks good and everyone deserves an upgrade. So here's a video on how I did it, thank you for watching.

Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Nice man i get a golf 6 no mfsw en i deed the same but the horn en mfsw buttens do not work i put a nieuw swm but i get stak
You need to re-wire the horn wires and program the car to recognize the new MFSW Control module
I have a 2007 Jetta Wolfsburg edition I want to upgrade the steering wheel I also want to have a wheel with steering wheel controls what wheel should I get for it?
It depends on what wheel looks good for you and one which is within your budget. The Golf 7 R and Golf 7 standard flat bottom looks good too, those are the ones I love. You can also fit a VW polo steering wheel too
i put golf 5 steering wheel in my vw caddy is not working butons and horn wheel is so strong go right or left put both hands to move steering wheel and in dashbord see wheel problem why fix it
The buttons won't work if your Caddy never had a MFSW before. For buttons to work you need a steering wheel control modules that supports multifunction.
Upgrading a steering wheel shouldn't affect how your steering wheel works. If you are turning it with the car off it'll be hard but with the car on there shouldn't be a problem.
Wait so I can switch the old design steering wheel from my golf 5 plus 2006 with this new model without any real issues?
Yes you can do that, the only thing you'll need to do is re-wiring the horn but anything other than that is not going to be a problem.
However, if you are upgrading from a non MFSW to a MFSW you'll need a SWCM
@@OverideZA thanks for the tip!

@@Zejakovhey man i got the same car as yours and wanted to do the same. So did u upgrade the steering wheel and how does it fit?
@zinii698 the steering wheel was perfect, but unfortunately I got in an accident.
hi mate i was wondering if this can fit into a vw scirocco? the twin charged version. Is it possible to plug play?
Hi man. Yes it will fit 💯, about plug and play I can't be certain. The wiring is a bit different but I'm sure this way that I've shown how to wire the steering wheel will work for the Scirocco as well, knowing that the scirocco is based on the same platform as the Mk5s.
Enjoying your video, I want to upgrade my mk5 GT , which steering wheels options do you recommend??
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
On which steering wheel would I recommend? I'd say the new Golf 8 GTI wheel would look good, but it depends on your finances and your preferences
Great video , i trying to upgrade mine same car , its just idk if it’ll work with the dashboard, do you need to code anything?
Thanks man.
If you don't want to have multifunction steering wheel buttons then yeah, it will work.
So im looking at putting a golf mk6 mfsw in my 2k caddy 08 plate.
Currently have no steering wheel controls .
Do i just get the mk6 golf mfsw,
And a new swcm
With part no either
1K0 953 549 CD,
Or
1K0 953 549 CH.
Is this correct? Really appreciate any help and advice
Then code in with vcds
Which year is the Caddy that you are planning on doing this to?
It'll look great, I'd go for it
Hi. What socket are you using to get the wheel out?
Hi, it's an M12 multispline socket. It's a tight and exact fit.
can the airback pop out if you do this wrong?
No. If you get the airbag connectors wrong they won't get a signal from the crash sensors and therefore won't pop out
Hello, I installed a Golf 7 steering wheel on my Golf 5 like you, but the horn does not work, as I understand from your video, there is an operation from the key socket, I would be very happy if you could help.
Hi, you need to take the connect the two cables from the new steering wheel on the same slot where the Original Mk5 wires for the horn are from. Then on the new steering wheel, make sure that the brown (-) wire is connected to the steering wheel and the blue/white wire must be depinned/or merge another wire which will be power (+) for the horn, and this wire must go from the ring around the airbag onto the slot which provides power to the horn.
I have upgrade my old steering wheel of my old VW T5 Caravelle to a very similar steering wheel like yours (take from a VW Caddy 2017, no multifuction)
I have the same problem, horn no works and airbag lights on at dashboard; would i contact to you for help me please?
I dont know exactly what i have to do.
Thanks for this video
After upgrading you'll need to rewire the new steering wheel to the configuration of your old steering wheel. Yeah you can contact me. Hit me up on one of the social media platforms I've listed on the profile.
@@OverideZA hi! I send pm on your instagram profile, regards
Recently got the same upgrade for my polo vivo 2013 model , however im missing airbag ,please plug with air bag around johannesburg
Hit me on my inbox through the link on the video.
@@OverideZA done
@m24automotive89 sure
Hey, I just got the same steering wheel. Wiring for horn also goes on the buttons connector, so I imagine that the will not work on mine either. I didn't understand which pins you connected the horn. Also which steering module did your car have?
The blue/white connector goes in the position of the original horn wiring. The black wire is the negative for the horn, the blue/white wire is the positive.
The module I had was the low line, which didn't support multifunction steering wheel control.
@@OverideZA Okay, thanks for the quick reply. Is there any way to contact you (telegram or something?).
I wanna do this to my honda okd steering wheel with no controls but want a newer steering wheel of a bmw or something and i dont care about the controls on the new wheel is that doable?
When it's different car makes I think it'll be a bit challenging but yes it is doable. Just find out the diameter of the steering wheel you want to upgrade to and see if it will fit your car with no clearance issues. But yeah it is doable
@@OverideZA thanks alot brother for the fast reply much appreciated
@@banunu5413 it's a pleasure man, I hope it works for you
You should consider investing in a 2nd hand torque wrench for future diy projects but nonetheless great job. 🛠️

I have a touareg 2005 model can I upgrade
I'm not really sure about Touareg, please upgrade with the 2012 VW Toureg steering wheel. That would be nice
where did you bought that ? I want it for the golf 5 1k1 2006
I bought it from the guys stripping accident damaged cars for parts. They're in many places. Pretoria, Johannesburg, Boksburg. Depends on where's the place closer to you.
@@OverideZA Thanks
Did you get the lights to light up on the steering
No, reason for that is that I didn't install a MFSW Control Module as it was expensive.
However I'll be making another video where everything works, stay tuned.
Thank you
which one of control unit's will you use for this steering wheel?
There are various steering wheel control modules that I can use to go on with this steering wheel. The most important thing is that the control module must be compatible with the car. So I'm leaning at any control module with the part number of 1K0 953 549 CD, 1K0 953 549 CE, 1K0 953 549 CF or 1K0 953 549 CH. Those are the highline control modules and will work with a Golf/Jetta Mk5, but for tried and tested modules use the CD/CH.
Is there a reason why you didn't just lock steering wheel so it doesn't spin?
Yes, so that I can be able to turn it left and right.
Please kindly subscribe to the channel if you haven't done so already
I see you are using a Sony 1 din radio, I was thinking doing the same because i Like how There's a Spot for things to put there, My question is, How is it, Do you like it or are you planing to swap it for something else?
Yes I have the Sony A416BT and I'm so happy with it. I had an accident with the car I did this steering wheel swap on, I got another one and I tried a VW Harman MIB Radio and it was great but it only played 2 front speakers only so I got another Sony A416BT radio for the new used car I bought again, so I really love the radio and for sure the space underneath there is also another thing I prefer having. I really doubt I'm gonna swap it for anything else.
Also, thank you for subscribing to the channel. I really appreciate it man
@@OverideZA one more thing now that someone actually replied, i know it's stupid, but the controls on the steering wheel work with the radio? I have a passat b6 with multifional steering wheel, and I'm wondering if it needs a special modification. Or can you change the track and volume?
@bunster4322 no, mine don't work because I had to upgrade the SWCM to the one that enables the steering wheel buttons to work but I didn't because it's expensive. But some say it does work with the steering wheel, you just have to set the radio to the corresponding buttons.
@bunster4322 there's no stupid question man! None.
Great job man, what country are you from?
South Africa 🇿🇦, thanks man
A modułu nie trzeba zmieniać?
I'm sorry I don't understand your language man 😞😞😞
Mk6is ok to put in mk5 please
Yes, all the way to Golf Mk8. Those steering wheels will fit
Do the buttons on the steering wheel work?
No, not yet. I need to get a new steering wheel control modules that supports multifunction steering wheel buttons. I'll be upgrading to it soon
If I installed a mk5 gti wheel with buttons.. Will I still need a control module?
You still need new wheel controller if you don’t own VagCom Obd2 connector to re-program old controller.
Yep that's true.
You should consider investing in a 2nd hand torque wrench for future diy projects but nonetheless great job. 🛠️
Change radio plz
Lol I love the sound of this radio
I would like to upgrade my golf 5 steering wheel. Where did you get the new steering wheel?
I got it from the breakers yard. They have different spares. I couldn't buy from eBay since I'm in South Africa and it would take months to arrive
Buying in South Africa instead of eBay or Aliexpress is also easier for me. Do you have any contact you can provide?
Please search Spartan Auto Spares, they're in Pretoria. You'll find their contacts.
@OverideZA I will do. Thanks a lot.
@derciobadru4091 Pleasure man
Aratami și mie schema firelor te rog că o faci prea repede
Am același volan și nu am înțeles
I'm sorry I don't understand Turkish man, is it possible to try to translate?
Do you think that is possible to put a multifunction steering wheel on my clio 2 year 1999?🫣
Could be possible but I'm not sure how
Does the golf 5 gti wheel fit the standard golf 5?
Yes they fit, all steering wheels from Mk5 Golf to Mk8 Golf does fit on a standard Mk5 Golf. So in case you want to upgrade with a GTI steering wheel, go ahead and do it. It'll fit perfectly.
Where did you buy the mk6 steering wheel ?
@@celilmirac6108 I bought it at a local breaker's yard here in South Africa but you can also find them at eBay and AliExpress.
To change mk6 in mk5 is ok
Use an impact gun next time and you won't have to lower car.
I don't have the impact at the moment, thank you.
Show me and me the name of that black and that yellow, please
I've already installed those and I no longer have them. All I showed there is all you need
@@OverideZA No because it's too fast and you don't explain exactly where the blue wire comes from and which wires you're moving
@@andreilucian7990 do you have the steering wheel and airbag in hand?
@@OverideZA yes
@@OverideZA You went too fast in the video and I don't understand the order, I wanted a picture with the order of the airbag and the plug
Electrocuted? By 12 volt? 😂
These things happen man 😂🤣😂
