When you called it a small canvass I laughed nervously. But seriously my cats hate diamond painting but they love flipping the tray and watching the drills go flying in the air which is how I am going to justify never finishing a canvass.
Maybe work on them in a room where there’s none of your cats?
Hahaha. Sounds like my bunnies. If I turn my back for a second , they throw the trays into the air and watch it rain. Then look at me as if to say.....I’m a such a clever bunny!
Lol! Same problem I have with my cat 🙃
When I diamond paint my dog Gemma gets in my way. She just wants attention and love.
I have two cats. I wait until they nap.
No kidding, I started diamond painting because of you and I couldn’t be happier. My husband is in the Navy and gets deployed often so it makes my days go by faster. Thank you and I’m hoping you’re still thinking about doing Patreon!
I am exactly the same, I love this so so much 🤗
Love to hear that it helps you! I find it so relaxing and can really take your mind off things. And the time just flies when working on a canvas
Loved your video. Kitting up & down is MY favorite part of diamond painting as well. The Harbor Freight containers are my favorite to work from. Wide open top that's easy to access. The lids hold up well over time. Had mine for a couple of years & none have broken. I'm currently using the tic tac style containers from Joanne to organize left over drills. I have a set for DMC round drills, DMC square drills & Diamond Dots round drills.
I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in completing these canvases just for the sake of doing them. I've gifted many of them, framed &hung a few in my home. But most are stored flat in my craft closet, having served the purpose of giving me a calming, peaceful activity to occupy my hands and mind while my Kindle reads me a story.
You've included lots of great, helpful tips for beginners. Thanks for sharing.
😊
I’ve done wayyyy to many of these things for a few years. Another tip, on the edges of the actual canvas, there’s sometimes a little bit of hangover or the sticky part. I line my painting with masking tape (or washi tape) and then fuzzy doesn’t stick to the edge
I was wondering what to do about that because it's so annoying. Thanks for the tip. 😊
I had no idea those numbers were stickers! This is life changing haha
I remember learning this and thinking back to silly me just throwing that page away 😅😅
It amazes me how huge diamond painting has become in the past year. I discovered DP a year ago and have become so addicted to it also. It's great to listen to videos on the same topic because you can always learn from different people.
I'm embarrassed to say that when I first saw it, I thought it was ridiculous. I have no idea why- I like paint-by-numbers! Then I saw a canvas I liked on Wish and now I'm addicted.
i honestly can’t figure out if diamond painting has gotten big in the past year or if it’s just because i’ve become aware of it lol
@@allisonwilmes9060 I think we become more aware of things that are around us- like how we buy a car and then we notice the car everywhere
I discovered my cheap pricing gun is amazing for labels. I got the one with letters and numbers. So fast, no peeling the backs off stickers, whatever. Perfect size for those tiny boxes.
I love this! I use the Elizabeth ward storage and I also put a strip of washi tape on the side of each one then place the sticker of the symbol and DMC number (that comes with Diamond Art Club kits) on top of the washi tape. That way when I’m done I can remove the washi tape/sticker with no residue on my little containers.
I like to do the coaster sets Diamond painting from Amazon for a sense of accomplishment while working on a huge one. ❤
I use clear scotch tape and write on it with a sharpie , comes off easy.
I am on my second one so far. I got 40 small containers from the dollar tree. 10 per pack for $1. They seem to be working great and hold two-three packs of one color. When I'm done I use baggies for the left over drills.
I just started diamond painting so it’s been two weeks. And I love it. My favorite part is putting the diamonds in the little containers. I am hooked
I love my Harbor Freight containers for my smaller projects!
I agree. I prefer the one with screw on lids. I have that same one. It's amazing. It costs a lot less than Elizabeth Ward and, in my opinion, is more secure. I love it. I think I got mine for $15 on Amazon. It came with straighteners as well. I had never tried them. I am now obsessed with the straighteners. They make everything look perfect!!
Try using reusable release papers when I first started using the release papers it changed my diamond painting world and mine happened before they closed the world! I love Elizabeth Ward and well I just love them all harbor freight is great for storing too…
Oh man, I’m so impatient, I always kit as I go. I get to excited to start the painting.
I've watched other tips videos, but would much rather support you! I'm getting close to finishing my first so I'm really curious about that end process (sealing, flattening, framing, etc).
I hope you were able to finish it!!
I recommend using something to roll over your drills to make sure they are all in! You can cover your piece with a towel and use a rolling pin if you don’t have a rolling tool!
For sealing there are such mixed reviews! I think it depends on the quality of canvas (if you have popping drills) and if it’s going behind glass. I’ve heard mod podge changes colour after a few years but haven’t tested myself
Welcome to the world of diamonds ( I call them crystals). I use a sponge brush and Elmer's clear glue. I let it dry on flat surface overnight. The shine of the crystals does not change. There are so many ideas out there. This Lady has many good ones. Enjoy your craft.
My kitty Sonny Boy and I prefer the cases. I keep the current one I'm working out of on a pillow by my side and he loves to ride it like a skateboard 🛹 while he's "helping" me drill !!!! He thinks all my amazon boxes are just for him. He is very smart and "energetic" I swear he never sleeps I might do something without him. Lol cats 🐈😻
I usually use sharpies to label my containers. I also label my trays if I'm working with multiple colors at one time. Then just use alcohol to wipe it off when you're done. No leftover residue and it won't come off until you want it to.
I do the same thing. Alcohol wipes or the bottle with a little paper towel works great.
I do the same thing when I don’t have a kit that comes with stickers!
I like the containers that look like tiktac containers and I use little blank labels with a pilot frixion pen. It's an erasable pen but writes better than the old school erasable pens we are use to. When I finish a painting I just erase the ink and reuse the label.
I kit by symbols: numbers, letters, special symbols. Easier for me to not have to keep referring to the legend. I’m only done a few paintings so I am still learning also. I use Harbor Freight stg also. Just be careful when opening as some diamonds manage to get in the edges and fall out when you lift the lid. Just tap before opening to make sure diamonds are in the bottom. Liked this video, very informative.
wow i didnt even know they were stickers thank u i new to diamond paining thank you :)
Yep, it's all your fault. Haha
I LOVE kitting up and I need small palate cleansers too. 😂 I go big-small-big-small. My favorite is the zipper organizer too. I have three of them. I use the Elizabeth Ward for long term storage of leftovers.
I did that one and I loved it someone very rude grabbed mine (4 yrs ago) and said they wanted it and took it, last one he got! You’re gonna love that wintry wonder horse! 😊
Got one of the black zipper containers for Christmas. Total game changer.
I am an organizer also. So glad to see your method. Thank you for such great ideas.
*I'm New to Diamond painting and absolutely Love this video share for tips. 😍😍😍* Sharon in SC
I just finished this one (Black & White) I love it. Organization is the key to enjoying your diamond painting
I love my harbor freight containers, I have tried others, but those are my favorite
I did that black and white horse I enjoyed it
I found your channel today! So glad I did! I am on my 3rd diamond painting and I appreciate the advice! ❤
I use the Elizabeth Ward containers for long term storage and the Harbor Freight containers to kit up projects for short term use. You can use leftover drills for various projects like blinging up face masks or other items that you may want to add ‘diamonds’ to. They come in handy, too, if you ever run out of drills which sometimes happens with less expensive kits that may have more trash drills than more expensive kits.
Harbor Freight is definitely my favorite. None have broken. They're pretty sturdy. I organize by the number on the canvas. Never tried washi on my containers because it never sticks well...lol
Oh, girl, we have so many characteristics in common that it’s scary…kindred spirits for sure!! 😂
Great video and very helpful tips. I just started diamond painting a month ago when a family friend bought me a garish birthday card set. I don’t like primary colours but realized it was very relaxing to work on. I ordered a set of six pretty pics in beautiful colours the next day. I’m a knitter/crocheter so this seemed a little silly to me because it’s not very useful or practical. But I have to say…it was a major stress reliever when on New Year’s Day we found out our son had a sledding accident and broke his back. He was also getting married in two weeks so we had to cancel the wedding. It was a double trauma and this new hobby helped me de-stress. Now my daughters, granddaughter and friends are doing it with me. 💝
I was looking for a quick & simple way of how the heck a beginner stores beads easily. Your video was the best I found, Im on my 3rd ever pic.🌻✌
The zipper organizer is also my favorite. I actually just ordered my fifth one, as I keep several WIPs going at one time so I don't get bored and I like to rotate between square and round. I have one organizer for each canvas. I only buy kits from DAC , and I put the small sticker on the outside of the organizer so I know which canvas it goes with.
I have completed several diamond paintings. Most of mine are in a portfolio for now, but I have mounted one on foam board and hung it in my bathroom using command strips. I plan on doing more like this. It is cheaper than buying a large frame and I like the way it looks.
I went to my Harbor Freight today and they didn’t have any of these storage containers. I did buy the zip bag with 60 bottles and a couple of other containers. I have six kits coming! I haven’t done any yet - been watching videos to learn and can’t wait!
Did you get the zip up case at harbor freight and if so how much was it?
❤❤❤❤ OMG I have that exact same picture of the Winter horse..
Amazing how easy cheaper way to buy things 😊😊
I'm working on this one right now.
When using the harbor freight container make sure you shake them so they don't come out the back side, since they are lying on the side. I did have that issue when I started using that storage system. I also use the washi tape the same way.
Just came across your channel, new subbie here ! Really enjoying your videos.
I love my cats and they love to lay about on anything that is taboo ! DP's are fair game.....
I love your energy. I've watched one other video before I make my purchase. Thank you for the instruction!!!
I’m new here but I’ve found that gluing a canvas to a cheap art canvas that is either black or white (depending on the diamond art), is a really easy and cheap way to make them hangable art. I also like the multi page art portfolios for ones I don’t want to hang up because I too mostly do them to having something to do with my hands.
I find I love tic tac containers. I also have Joanne’s jewelry display case which has 18 sections and each section holds 5 tic tac. I have 5 display cases to hold ALL my tic tacs. I have a tic tac for EVERY DMC color. I use my P-Touch to print a DMC number for every one tic tac on one side and on the opposite side I pasted a cut up address label so I could write the number/symbol of whatever painting I am currently doing and when I use the DMC again I just erase and write the next one.
I use Harbor Freight boxes and they are so cheap and useful. The one downside is that drills get stuck between the lid and the box, so they flip out, sometimes. Not a big deal.
I just bought these ($23.99 for 84 Grids Large Separate Diamond Painting Accessories Beads Organizer DIY Diamond Painting Kit Bead Organizer Storage Box) and they are easy to open, hold almost as much as a Harbor Freight box and take up a lot less space. 28 boxes per large box. They open by squeezing and close securely. I am using this for small kits when I travel.
I store excess drills long term in the Elizabeth Ward boxes, but I heard they are being discontinued and getting harder to find. Ali Express has a knock off brand that works the same.
You can label them with sharpie pens and use alcohol, hand sanitizer, chlorox wipes, etc. to remove the ink when done, or use masking tape/washi tape. When I am home, I use my 1-1/2” Xyron ❤️💕sticker maker and print the drill key to make labels for the boxes. I also make a sticker of each kit photo to decorate my kit box. I bought a flat box with a flat fitted top at Michael’s. It was bare wood, so I painted it, put layers of glitter and tissue paper on it and put drills in the top and tools and trays in the bottom box. Now I have a fun place for stickers.
I leave the original plastic cover on the canvas and roll it down and use cover paper or parchment to cover the section I am working next to. When I am finished, I still have a complete cover to keep the dust out. I staple it on, then.
Okay. Hear me out lol I am new to this, but I am a little .... obsessive about most things. I use the zippered one that you have. Mine is a double layer one and it has the taller canisters. I sit there with my little 5/8 craft hole punch and my Dymo labeller - I think you can see where I am going here lol I have a plastic container for the current painting drills and the rest are in the zippered case (because the lid annoys me when I am using it). I can reuse my canisters for the next painting if the drills are repeated by the colour number. For the new ones I use a new canister and a new label. I guess if I do this long enough, I will have over 3,800 canisters HAHA
Black and white was my 1st DAC diamond painting, and now I'm working on sneaky cat, I've done 2 DAC and 2 Diamond Dots diamond paintings. The rest have just been from a more small brand company
Love this video. I just started painting when covid hit. I use a roll of masking tape from the dollar tree to label with and after watching this, checked my current and lo and behold, there is no residue on my containers. Washi tape is a great idea, but this is just a little cheaper. Its dollar store tape, how good is it going to be, which in this case, is a good thing!
You have created a monster. I got a couple diamond paintings from your affiliate link and they arrived on Friday. I'm already almost done the smaller one.
Just bought one it was $5.99 at Harbor Freight There was 24 little boxes, I guess the whole case is considered the 25th piece!! I’m a newbie too. Just getting started and finding out what I like.
Loved this how to video. Thank you!
Been diamond painting for about 3ish years now and we use jelly shot containers lol...they come with lids and are super cheap you can get them at a dollarstore and just have dish to put them all in 😊
You were helpful thank you.
All those containers are awesome! great video Chelsea :)
I've gotten into diamond painting.
The very first one I did I took the sheet covering the glue off. I then realized I wasn't supposed to do that.
I looked online didn't see much but tried parchment paper.
The glue stayed thank goodness 😅
I just cut the number off the pack of drills to keep track of them
You're literally so funny, we have similar personalities and your content and presentation just clicks with me. Can't wait to watch your whole channel 😶🌫️😅
I did that one for my mom I loved it
I started diamond painting last November and I'm only now getting into storage for my spare drills and for my 3rd project. I'm trying to find best storage methods and yours is defo explained in full detail witch I love and is a huge help thank you. My first project I jumped in with a massive 60 x 90 witch I finished but man I defo know now what my limits are for sizing lol...
This is a really great video! I actually have the artdot storage container. I got mime from Amazon then i bought thier other drill organizer!
Love it, like everything u do, I love to kit up, I kit up all my diamond paintings when I finish one I just get one that I kitted up to work. Is it crazy to kit up all your diamond paintings. Smile
I would really love to see a video for how you prepare your canvas. Thanks in advance!
You discovered my reason for using the harbor freight containers. They hold so many and I can organize them how I want. I always take out my extras and my gray and pen fits in there with it. I am weird... I like to separate by symbol... letters and numbers in order, and then symbols in dmc order. Most of the kits I do are large, so I have two containers to separate the symbols and letters and numbers in their own box.
You are so much more organized than me I will literally cut a corner off each baggie and have them in a kind of organized pile but I also don’t have cats just dogs, a guinea pig, and fish so nothing disrupts my work area until I am done with a piece.
This is a perfectly good way to work on them! The containers are just extras - what’s so nice about this craft is that you can just use what comes in the kit or you can invest in the additional tools (the extras 😀)
Your cat is so cute
First time watching, I love this girl!!
I wish I could find those Elizabeth Ward containers in a b&m store bc I can always wait for a sale or use a coupon- it would be so easy to get them on Amazon but they're pricey compared to other storage systems. I've upgraded twice so far and I'm only on my second canvas! Haven't found the perfect organization system yet- either I don't have enough slots for all the colors, or the containers aren't large enough to hold some colors (like those 310 black drills). I kit everything up and then have to store the overflow in the baggies anyway. The EW at least gives you the option to have larger-sized sections.
Thank you that was helpful. I just finished my first diamond painting. I find it relaxing after a stressful day..
So excited you finished your first one!
Hi Chelsea! Would love to see kitting down. I've done some diamond paintings and I'm trying to figure what to do with the leftovers. I use the harbor freight storage bc its a little expensive to get this craft going. It helps to tap the containers to knock the drills down that get stuck around the rim.
If it helps, this is what I do: I have a larger container, ~30-40 little boxes. It was meant for bead making...think clear tic tac containers. I combine them all together under the DMC #. That way, if I am a few short, I have extras, and now Joann's is selling just the canvas so you can make your own designs. Haven't done that yet, but I'm tempted!
I do have a few odd balls where they used their own numbering system, but for the most part, I have all the extra drills condensed down. Much more organized than having a ton of baggies stuffed in another bag which was my original method!
Love that kit I did it in November so sparkling thise abs
I use permanent marker and when done use alcohol swabs to wipe it off
Can you make a video where you section off your Diamond paintings? I would love to know how you do it
With the plastic covers lots of people make squares with washi tape and then use an exacto knife pen to gently cut the plastic cover (you only want to apply enough pressure to go through the plastic cover not the canvas)
I just bought the larger kit from Amazon. I was wondering how to label theme. Great idea using the included stickers.
I got four kits from amazon and none of them had the stickers 🤔
I watched this while working on the diamond painting you made me buy XD
I love your diamond art videos. I am learning as I go to. I am starting my 5th one now. It is two birds and from Colorelation. I have a bunch from Diamond Art Club but they are so large that I am scared to start them. I do have the dragon one with the books you showed in this video. It is going to be so pretty when it is done.
I love those little jar containers, I have some similar ones. I use a labelmaker to label my diamond jars/containers and draw the few I don't have a symbol for. I also enjoy doing these preps before starting on the DP.
Oh wow I’ve done that one and it took me two weeks so it wasn’t snacki for me it was the “main course”
I love the canvas it is beautiful
Loving your content and channel thanks for sharing your methods. My family/friends would really like it if I would stop "PIMPING" diamond painting as the best hobby ever, daily!
We need a diamond painting update!
I really want to get one of those containers
Thank you so much, very helpful! ☺
Very helpful chelsea
I use the same zipper storage containers. I find that the screw caps are easier for me to open than the tab ones. I need tips on setting up the canvas for easier drilling. 😬
I feel your cat issues. Mine just gives me the look because he totally wants in my lap but knows he's not allowed. So he will try n be sneaky and inch his way closer and closer thinking I can't see him. I'm sure one day he's going to jump right in the middle of an open canvas and get it stuck all over him.
I watched this while kitting up for a custom picture. I’ve got the drills, just waiting on the canvas. 😬 also, do you seal yours when you’re done? (Like with mod podge or something else)
Hi could you please try a peace from dreamer designs?
💛
That's little?! Hun, one of those would take me months to finish 😭
wow, great video!! hi chelsea.!! have a good evening. i hope all is well.
Dang i love your video, ive been struggling with getting the stickers off to kit up and just not wanting to do it. So I searched RUclips, and found you. Thanks! You just made my life easier, and I can share your tip with my other diamond painters!!
You should auction off the painting you don’t want to keep and if you don’t want to keep the money you could give it to animal shelters/organizations.
I am interested in doing diamond painting while listening to audio books but have pro lens with my eyesight . Are the symbols very small on the painting? They do look very small.
How you do it static on the dotz... Dryer sheets are Best ❤❤
I store them in shot glasses and matchboxes xd
You should do a titanic
So do you have a storage containers for each dp project? And what is the washi tape for? I am new to this craft or art.
Just finished this one, it’s so pretty!
I have been putting my larger paintings on canvas they are so much cheaper. Just an idea
I hate kitting up 🤣
Wow, I need to think about splurging on Diamond Art Club, I've always just ought cheapo ones from Amazon and they never come with stickers for the codes. I've just used baggies and written on little file tab stickers or something. Also, the washi tape tip for the edge of the canvas is genius, never would have thought to do that but it makes total sense, because yes, they do get all fuzzed up, don't they? My big question is--what do you do with the leftover diamonds? Because they always seem to give way more than you need for the particular canvas, which is great because you don't want to not have enough...but then I don't know what to do with the extras! I don't think you can carry them over to other paintings if they're made by different companies. I suppose you can use them for other art projects, but......I don't do anything other than diamond painting, LOL.
If you look on Amazon under diamond painting kits/tools. You can find kits that come with stickers and stuff you might want or need.
It’s great to keep the left overs in case you run out on another kit. There are lots of Facebook groups where people will ask for help or anyone willing to send extra drills.
Some people make book marks , cards decorate pots with their extras. You can also donate the extra pens, trays, wax and drills to accumulate through the kits to schools or daycares:)
