Oh my goodness Joy, what a wonderful teacher you are. You have shown and answered so many questions for me in this video. I love to quilt and I love to sew but have had trouble getting my clothes to fit. I'm not giving up, though. I am 76; before my time on earth is over I am "determined" to be able to sew my own clothes...lol. Thank you for taking time to make these videos. Your clothes you make always look so nice. May God Bless you in all you do because you sure are a blessing to those you teach.

Excellent explanation re: button extension, button hole placement and the logic of sewing on buttons!!! I've always been intimidated by this process, but your video has really opened my eyes as to the correct way to get near perfect results. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video!!!!!!!!! You're my sewing hero!!! 🥰 BTW: I can't stand cropped pants and just can't wear 3/4 length sleeves! My mother made me a seersucker outfit that had "pedal pusher" pants when I was about 4 or 5 yrs. old and I absolutely refused to wear it! The length of the pants drove me nuts! To this day, I just can't do cropped pants or capris, as they are now called. Can't do 3/4 length sleeves either. I like tops that are either sleeveless, have cap sleeves or long sleeves. I like the option of pushing long sleeves up on my forearm if/when necessary. I like shorts or long pants, period. To me, cropped pants and capris look like they weren't made long enough or that the wearer grew several inches since the garment was made/purchased. No, you're not the only one, Joy. ☺ Again, thank you for making this video and showing us your excellent sewing methods! Oh! Your changing out the white blouse buttons for blue was an excellent decision. The white ones were distracting. The blue ones blend into the background of the blouse and look so much nicer. 👍🏼

I was taught that the only button holes that are horizontal are one on jackets and blouses and shirts should be vertical so as not to shift off center front and possibly allow gaping. I like the way you do it here as I prefer my button holes to be horizontal and by making sure the button hole edge toward center front is only 1/8" over CF, the shift is VERY minimal if any. Thanks for validating my button hole preference, Joy! LOL Love this video. I don't know why you were hesitating on putting them up. It's like sewing with a sewing buddy!

one. I remember my sewing teacher said something alike some 30 years ago but I forgot it until now. As regards the lower shoulder and lowering the armhole, I use a measuring wheel to run it along the front and back armhole called Rollbe. I bought it from SFD UK. The armhole gets larger if you lower the sides of the armhole more than the amount you lowered at the shoulder

but as it fits you the way you do it , who cares. The sleeve is easier to set in. Your blouses are beautiful
When I learned typing, our teacher used the second carbon copy to check typing errors. Too soft typing resulted in pale prints difficult to read and low grades even if there were no typing errors.

Interesting about the men's shirts. Guess someone finally caught on.

Yes, you have to lower the armhole the same amount as the shoulder. That is what I do. Two one fourths at the shoulder equal one half, and I lower the armhole one half inch.

Do you run the serger around your sleeve seam once the sleeves pass for perfect, or near it?
Never mind your insert immediately answered my question. Thank you.

Oh my you certainly aren’t the only one who dislikes pants that hit about the ankles. I detest them. I don’t think they look good on anyone, young old or anywhere in between.
But I do enjoy all your videos, you make me smile when I feel like there’s nothing to smile about!!!!!

I agree with you about a tight button hole that is horizontal

This was wonderful lesson Joy. I have always sewn the sleeves in from the sleeve side. But I like your method and crimping best. I also liked the way you adjusted the button hole width a little. Looks lovely. What table is your 740 sitting in? Don’t think this is available here in Australia. God Bless

The button spacer is called the Simflex Sewing Gauge. Great job!
