Solidus wanting be remembered only to be forgotten is one of the worst things ever to happen to someone who holds onto their ideals till the very end. Sons of Liberty in itself is one of the most tragic games in the series: from Solidus’s tragic fall, Raiden’s tragic upbringing to the tragedy of controlled digital information still just as relevant today as it was back then!
I feel like that's something that never gets talked about. Solidus wanted his memory to live on as a heroic one, but in Revengeance, we see the Sears Program. His legacy is only that of his use of child soldiers, and that's it. He's not even really remembered for starting the Shadow Moses uprising. He's definitely not remembered as one of the first third party people to actively fight back against the Patriots. He's only remembered for being a psychotic warmonger who tortured and endangered children. Is it unfair? Probably not. But considering how much worse Big Boss was, yet the world still admired him posthumously, it does suck.
As far as Solidus being the first third party president, one would have to assume that political parties were never real, and that every president was installed by the Patriots
@@dragon44048probably a little after, as Major Zero only officially started the Patriots organization with Big Boss in 1972. With him setting it up with the Philosopher's Legacy in-between. So it probably took a while to 100% control the presidency.
Just a minor correction: The final battle between Raiden and Solidus takes place not on Capitol Hill, but on Federal Hall, Capitol Hill is in Washington, DC. Federal Hall is in Manhattan. This detail is important both for it's location on Wall Street symbolizing the Patriots' control of both the government and the market, and for Solidus as Federal Hall was the birthplace of America's first congress and the place where George Washington was sworn in as president, which ties into Solidus' own ambitions of being a kind of George Washington style revolutionary.
It’s weird to me that solidus feels somewhat forgotten as a villain in the series. He’s not meme’d like others, he’s not wacky. He feels grounded and subdued compared to every other villain in the series, which is why he’s one of my favorite. He feels real.
I'd say the only "meme'd" villains from anything related to Metal Gear as of recently have too be the Metal Gear Rising villains who were mostly liked because the vast majority of people played that game before the Solid series of games that Kojima directed. Also, that game being completely over-the-top in action and most of it's story moments and character interactions is probably why it's still remembered to this day. Ten years after it originally released.
My favorite Snake. A pity he is often forgotten next to his brothers and father. A tragic irony for one who wanted to be remembered by history and other people... As he himself so ironically put it to President Johnson, "Pawns can never become players."

I always thought it was weird that Solid and Liquid didn’t know George Sears was their brother. The man looks exactly like Big Boss with an intact eye.
They had no reason to think they had a brother with advanced aging running. Plus its not like Big Boss ever dressed like a president. The lack of eyepatch, more formal hair, and just the circumstance of it all likely left the Snake twins maybe being perplexed for a few seconds before moving onto what is actively plaguing their lives.
In the right circumstances, you couldn't tell your own face. Also consider that Solidus's aging rate was faster than Snake's by that point; while Snake looked like he might be in his forties, Solidus looked to be in his sixties. Would you know your own face if it were aged by twenty years?
I put it down to the "Clark Kent" effect. They weren't looking for a brother/Big Boss clone as the president. Plus, we've established that people can't recognize people as easily as we thought. Charlie Chaplin, Dolly Parton and so on all lost their own "Look alike" contests

Think of it from a game runtime perspective. I don't know the MSX games well enough to comment, so let me compare _Solid 1_ with _Solid 2._ Liquid was introduced, if not counting the briefing, within the first few minutes of _Solid 1,_ and was shown at various points throughout. Even Ocelot was introduced around a fifth of the way through _Solid 1._ Solidus, on the other hand, was introduced in a post-credits scene in _Solid 1,_ but was never seen, and never spoke. He was completely absent for the first fifth of _Solid 2_ (as he hadn't resurfaced during the Tanker chapter), and wasn't introduced until almost halfway through the Plant chapter; other than the -Hind D- Harrier fight, he wasn't seen again until _Shadow Moses 2: Torture Boogaloo,_ then not seen again until the voice over and eventual appearance in the Pooper section of Arsenal Gear. After the RAY battle, Solidus gets some stage time until the scene becomes dominated by Liquid Ocelot, and Solidus is relegated to the same status as everyone else, listening and responding to Liquid. Sure, Solidus tries to shoot Liquid, but that's about it until the rooftop fight. Liquid, In _Solid 1,_ got the final car chase, and FOX-Die end sequence. When the rooftop fight is done, Solidus is never seen alive again, and doesn't appear at all until halfway through _Solid 4,_ where, arguably, he has more impact on the story as a corpse than he does in all his living appearances. Liquid, Ocelot, and Liquid Ocelot are much more dynamic villains than Solidus, to the point where an Ocelot of some kind is in all five and a half _Solid_ games, and Liquid appears (in an argued living state) in three of the five and a half, and even gets significant time in 4 as Liquid Snake, with the discussion of his genetics. I think Solidus Snakes character design is one reason to make him (at least to me) forgetable. I think Yoji Shinkawa and Kojima went astray with the living metal and exoskeleton designs. This is my personal gripe though. But as older i realize what he was used to tell story wise. A.i using Solidus and others is so good story to this day and age. Excellent video! Learned a lot things, even the design reason for Solidus's exoskeleton!

Oh I catched that Roland at the beginning, it'd be pretty interesting albeit possibly long videos about Library of Ruina(Technically also Lob corp since that's where the Sephies and Angela came from) characters.
The snake on the Sons of Liberty flag is meant to be a reference to the political cartoon that shows the states divided into many pieces. I don't think its meant to reference the "Dont tread on me" snake but you can make that assumption.
I see that you're using some library of ruina essentially in the opening. Hopefully if it interests you you can probably do some character stuff for That game and the others within the project moon universe

How cool would it have been to have David Hayter voice Solidus and Solid? I mean Hayter can already do an old man voice as seen with Old Snake. But I guess it really is one if those things that was lost in translation.
Solid and Liquid already have different voices. The three Snakes have different sets of genes, different habits, and were raised in different places. Snake is also a heavy smoker, while we're given zero implication that Solidus smokes.
Everything about Sam serves to remind Raiden of his stepfather, Solidus Snake. Like Solidus, Sam wears an ability-enhancing suit to fight Raiden. In their first battle, Sam makes Raiden lose an eye, just like Solidus. Both Sam and Solidus are also interested in Raiden's nature, and Raiden's duel with Sam ends not unlike the one with Solidus. Armstrong also shares many similarities with Solidus, given that both of them: Are American politicians and presidential candidates. Are the final bosses of their respective games, with their battles taking place on crashed Metal Gears. Utilize nanomachines. Despise the Patriots. Are willing to sacrifice innocent lives for a cause they beieve is greater. Earned Raiden's respect after their deaths. Armstrong even calls Raiden "son" during his encounter with him. Quite on the nose there...

Oh my goodness, I haven't heard that Streaking Mode game over song in years. Still makes me laugh.
Ah yes! I was waiting for this, I absolutely love this character. Such a shame he is so underrated. Thank you for making good content!
Great Analysis of am Amazing Character
Looking Back
There Are So Many Great Concepts and Metaphors Here
The snake on the flag is a more direct reference to the “Join or Die” political cartoon
y'know I kinda miss the edits at the start of these videos. I remember your older Solidus video from 6 years ago and I really liked the opening you made for him
I always knew the face model bit without really knowing it; you can really tell in the eyes
Another Metal Gear vid, trully wonderfull
Please do Eva and Ocelot. Glad you did this guy again. I loved the first one and this is also a great watch!
Oh I catched that Roland at the beginning, it'd be pretty interesting albeit possibly long videos about Library of Ruina(Technically also Lob corp since that's where the Sephies and Angela came from) characters.
Man I wanna play MGS2 so bad but the Master Collection is weeks away from launch
Solidus always was and always will be, a homie 🐙
Fantastic video.
Now I wait for the Gene & Ursula/Elisa videos. Especially the masterpiece of Gene's voice acting of the likes of Steve Blum.
16:56 I would argue that it was most famously used by the men and women of Stargate Command, but maybe that's just me.
Jaffa, Kree!

Stargate mentioned
Always thought he was an amazing character, great vid
The snake on the Sons of Liberty flag is meant to be a reference to the political cartoon that shows the states divided into many pieces. I don't think its meant to reference the "Dont tread on me" snake but you can make that assumption.
Big Boss' Most Loyal Triplecrosser: Revolver Ocelot

Still dreaming one day we get Meti Ruina video
Waiting for dedicated Project Moon video! I'm on the verge of distorting!
YES BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!
The fight agaisnt determinism is whatBerserk is all about
Good video
I don’t think I truly understood MGS2 until this video- even playing the game for myself, I missed so much context.
He said on graphic novel that George Sears was an alias he used while he was president
Great video Meti
I JUST REALIZED!
The tentacles are visual metaphors for him being a puppet on strings!
I feel so sorry for Solidus. He just wanted to leave behind a legacy, but the way he was taken out in MGS4...
Mgs 4 was strange.. mgs 1 2 and 3 are the best.. and liquids voice is not in mgs4.. so many things are wrong in mgs4
The crazy part is that we have 0 way of knowing if meti is indeed, not the bad guy
great video
It turned to the time 9:11 as I finished this
I love metal gear do more please ❤❤❤
His suit and design are perfect I think.
I see that you're using some library of ruina essentially in the opening. Hopefully if it interests you you can probably do some character stuff for That game and the others within the project moon universe
This Sawdust guy sounds pretty cool. You're pretty good.
BABE WAKE UP, METI MADE A VIDEO ABOUT SOLIDUS SNAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was kind of surprised that they didn't go with "Gaseous Snake," "Plasma Snake," or "Bose-Einstein Condensate Snake."
Great video brahhh
Metinotthebadguy thanks to you I have understood more deeply the element of design filosophy and lore behind a lit of chracters that have become my favorites among further inspection. Im glad you had been so dedicated and passionate about thecontent that you make and I want to say thanks for giving me the inpiration and motivation to make some original works for myself in my free time. If you get to read my comment I would like to request a chracter who I would like to see you make a video of in the future, that chracter being ultraman. Any version from whatever media you prefer is fine since there have been many iterations. I would like to know more about his design inspiration and history since it is a classic character that I liked since childhood but never new much about besides the most recent netflix shows that star a modern reimaging of the original.
It's absolutely crazy to see how many things in this game actually game true, I imagine if hideo was an American he'd of been killed years ago.
Roland jumpscared me, i am not ready for his reception again
0:05 Could you do an analysis of some characters from Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina, the characters in these games are simply incredible and very well written, you could address interesting topics with them
First Roland cutscene: lmao imagine being this unlucky
Keter Realization: oh my god…
Would you cover mario zuccero please?
Hey meti[ not bad guy] i really love your video my Request is beauty of shino sosaki aka mandalay from my hero academia video
Moar Metal Geer
What's the puppet and bloody dice footage from? It looks interesting
I have a figure of that man. I woulda voted for him
it's funny that the final boss of mgs game centered about raiden is ex-president and president candidate
Can you do a video about Roland from LoR?
I'm wondering now if Konami might one day release a "definitive edition" of Metal Gear Solid 2 that has all the cut content you mentioned.
A lot of time has passed.
Are you planning on making a video about roland from LoR?
I guess there was no comfort in the strings for him
Please do one for Meryl 🙏
Anyone else randomly thought about Mother Base resembling Big Shell when you really think about it?
Oh hell yeah! Thats my father!
Look man, your videos are really cool, and man, the Chansaw Man ones are perfect, but like, could you make a video of Asa Mitaka because an analysis of her would be really cool and interesting, so take this comment into consideration, please
8:06 wait Metal gear have a comic?!
Hey, perhaps you could for a fun video idea, look into what are the metal gear rising character’s stands would be…!
Please Meti, can you do a " the beauty of mario zucchero ", I think it was the only character in part 5 that you didn't make a video about, I love this style of video.
Th best RUclipsr 100%
My favorite enemy.
Now that's a pretty MEME~
Armstrong also shares many similarities with Solidus, given that both of them:
Are American politicians and presidential candidates.
Masterpiece
Solidus's voice actor is so good
*was 😔 rest in peace, John Cygan
2:03 S.T.A.R.S members lmao
Have you made a video like this for solid snake ?
