A great cover of one of Bauhaus' most atypical songs. It's great when people cover songs that are off most people's radar, instead of going for the easy & obvious. This is blinding. I had the great pleasure of seeing Bauhaus live three times during the 80's, and have never stopped liking them. My 12'' 'Bela Lugosi's Dead', bought in early 1980, still plays great. Kudos, MGMT!
Long-time Bauhaus fan here. Have no problem with what MGMT did here. They obviously are Bauhaus fans and are honoring them here. Those angry at it from the old-school side and from the new-school side.......you're idiots. Relax.
Literally started listening to the original two days ago and now I’m finding this?!?!?! I missed out on mgmt after congratulations but I’m slowly learning I fucked up!
Bauhaus is great, but this is one of those few covers I like more than the original. It sounds more lush. MGMT's sound is always so lush, that's what's great about them. :)
all i ever want is to hear your new album. late night tales is the greatest collection of songs for 2011.amazing taste in music guys and your cover is excellent too.
All we ever wanted was everything All we ever got was cold Get up, eat jelly Sandwich bars, and barbed wire Squash every week into a day The sound of the drum is calling The sound of the drum has called Flash of youth shoot out of darkness Factorytown Oh to be the cream
This is masterful. I absolutely love the strings in the background and the amazing vocals. I hope MGMT will release a new album that is 100% their work soon.
I love this song. I love the Bauhaus version best of course but this MGMT interpretation is brilliant in its own right. I also dig XIU XIU's version, give it a listen.
Still, if it shows people that Bauhaus exist, then good. I have to confess I think I'll listen to some MGMT. I was seventeen when into Bauhaus in 1981!!!!
hamed faqirzai calm the fuck down and don't give me the "everyone has their own opinion" because honey there's a difference between an opinion and an entirely bigoted remark that's uncalled for
@stickefingas410 Well said! I am kind of ashamed to say I never heard of Bauhaus and only got to know them now that MGMT has covered them. And I started to search about this Band and even bought their albums. So yeah, kudos to MGMT, they did a great job compiling this album and covering this wonderful song and introducing Bauhaus to a whole new generation!
I agree that this doesn't reflect the style of music Bauhaus created, but it's an interesting take nevertheless. I love Bauhaus, and I tip my hat to MGMT for covering such a great band.
@MattEHCA I wouldn't say they suck now, but rather they're just exploring their other musical abilities. I see what you mean though going from great upbeat songs like those from Oracular Spectacular to ones like these that are covers and a bit more trippy. Hang in there and try to enjoy. I'm sure whatever they create next will be great! (:
All we ever wanted was everything All we ever got was cold Get up, eat jelly Sandwhich bars, and barbed wire Squash every week into a day The sound of drums is calling The sound of the drum has called Flash of youth shoot out of the darkness Factorytown Oh to be the cream
Very similar to the original. But then again, bauhaus did exactly the same thing with Bowie's Ziggy Strardust. I'm a bit old, bourght Bauhaus in 1980 but beware old farts going on about how good it all was!!!
Being a Bauhaus fan since 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' first came out in 1979, I was dubious of the quality of any cover versions of their material. MGMT [a great band, I might add] have done this, which blew me away. An odd song to cover - it's not really representative of the Bauhaus style, but a great song anyhow. I love it.
The song not being Bauhaus style is what makes it majestic bit then again it came from their collective consciousness as a group so at the end of the day maybe they could have sounded like this forever.
The original was released in 1982, not the 70's. The song was made for anyone who wants to listen to it at any point in time. The cover by MGMT, also made for anyone who wants to listen to it at any point in time. "This version is for the newer generation" I'm sure that MGMT doesn't want people who are 45 or 50 buying or listening to their music right? And them some of you wet-behind-the-ears know nothings wonder why the older folks scoff at you.
@MrMunchhead google late night tales for the info or check their mission statement.. LateNightTales invites the world’s best artists to delve deep into their music collections to create the ultimate "late night” selection. The series now features over 25 diverse Artists such as The Flaming Lips, Nightmares On Wax, Snow Patrol, Cinematic Orchestra, Four Tet, Jamiroquai, Arctic Monkeys and more recently Midlake who have all taken us on their nocturnal musical journeys
"ooh girl, you shock me like an electric eel. save it girl, send it on with your electric feel" or who could forget "you were a child crawling on your knees toward it. making mama so proud. but your voice was too loud controll yourself take only what you need from it. a family of trees wanting to be haunted" that last song is already 9 years old so when its 18 years old it will be the year 2022 do the math
so from 1986 to 2022 is a span of 36 years. if in 2022 MGMT still has fans that are age 11-22 then i will appologize to you. but personally i belieb their is a better chance of young "monsters" and "beliebers" being around in 2022 then "managers" only time will tell. i have been wrong before
I had no idea MGMT covered this song until today. Really nice, too. Love Bauhaus
Same

Yahiira So hows life dude you still alive
Anything MGMT do, they do it perfectly well.
Literally started listening to the original two days ago and now I’m finding this?!?!?! I missed out on mgmt after congratulations but I’m slowly learning I fucked up!
Oh I love this. They really got it.
Bauhaus is great, but this is one of those few covers I like more than the original. It sounds more lush. MGMT's sound is always so lush, that's what's great about them. :)
it's the most beautiful thing i've ever heard..
MGMT clearly has good taste in music with covers like these :D This doesn't beat the original, but it's still brilliant.
I like the original better but this is amazing. I don't get why everyone hates it?
Elle Bauhaus I don't hate this version. I like both.
Perfection is the enemy of greatness.
The vocals remind me of Daniel Ash - so it still sounds like a Bauhaus song to me.
ate some mushrooms
ended up here
i guess everything works out in the end
can't give this enough likes!
Sure does !
loooove that comment
Lmfao
beautiful. creative. relaxing. perfect.
Fantastic cover, they did such an amazing job in capturing the main essence of the original. Also speaking as someone who loves Bauhaus very much.
I like it. They're doing great work honouring Bauhaus. 🖤🖤🖤

I seriously cannot wait for MGMT's next album...
What do you think of the self entitled, man from 2011?
why does everyone hate this? this is amazing, i love it.
I love this song. I love the Bauhaus version best of course but this MGMT interpretation is brilliant in its own right. I also dig XIU XIU's version, give it a listen.

Ok...mgmt sold me on their cover.
Great job as per usual by this band..huge fan from day 1.
Still, if it shows people that Bauhaus exist, then good. I have to confess I think I'll listen to some MGMT. I was seventeen when into Bauhaus in 1981!!!!

mgmt chalenges the listener. its too advance for the retards. thats why i like them
ravenofsorrow777 and too crappy for the intelligent. There music doesn't deserve to exist (it's not for anyone!)
hamed faqirzai calm the fuck down and don't give me the "everyone has their own opinion" because honey there's a difference between an opinion and an entirely bigoted remark that's uncalled for
Mai Johnson everyone has their own opinion honey. And there's no need for your most unholy remark. THE passion of Christ compels you!

As much as I love Bauhaus, and not love MGMT so much.. This cover is amazing.

@stickefingas410 I agree 101%! The best cover of a Bauhaus-song EVER!
Great cover
Pretty good!
I agree that this doesn't reflect the style of music Bauhaus created, but it's an interesting take nevertheless. I love Bauhaus, and I tip my hat to MGMT for covering such a great band.

this is the only cover of the late night tales album right??
@MelissaZombietz It's really good! Sounds so alike though.
@whiteneptunexyz its more of a compilation than an album, none of it is mgmt's music except for this
This is a cover version
Very similar to the original. But then again, bauhaus did exactly the same thing with Bowie's Ziggy Strardust. I'm a bit old, bourght Bauhaus in 1980 but beware old farts going on about how good it all was!!!

@STLHero they told Esquire magazine that the sound of the album will be fun and rewarding
Why did I just find out about this?
Consider yourself lucky, I only just found this... well, better late than never!

@TheLukehaines ohh wait. so are all the other ones on this album ones that they made themselves..? or....wut?
@Emwhyceeaychayell
But do you know Bauhaus?
How cool is this... Didn't think Millennial's knew Bauhaus. Okay, okay...
