In Old Republic: Revan, Darth Nyriss remarks that Darth Xedrix, a human, belongs to a lesser species and that the Dark Side has ravaged his body. It would make sense that Sith Purebloods are more resistant, as their species is naturally attuned to the Dark Side. Other species might also react differently to the Dark Side's corrupting influence.
The way I understood it was that Jedi allowed the Force to flow through them, never seeking greater power, while the Sith sought to subject the Force to their will, having a respect for their power but also believing they were in total control of it and nothing was beyond their reach. The channeling of such energy would indeed have corrupting effects, but looking at it another way one can assume that while Sith drew from the Dark Side, the Dark side also drew from them. A parasitic price for such power, replacing what they were with what the Dark Side was and is.
@kostas pap Out of all of those you said, only Sidious acted like a real sith. I don't know much on Plagueis but I know Darth Bane had it rough, he just simply wanted to stop the in fighting among sith so he created the rule of two. While Vader simply was just doing what Sidious wanted him to do. Being a true sith is about ambition, to seek power and to seize what you want. Anakin at the end of episode 3 was EXACTLY this. He wanted to save Padme's life so he wanted power, and he felt like the Jedi didn't recognize his strength by not making him a master so he wanted to prove them wrong. The he becomes vader and just becomes a servant. If you haven't played it, try SWTOR, the main stories alone make it worth playing and probably the only real reason to play it. But it shows how different sith view the dark side and being "sith". And you can follow that path of ambition as you rise up yourself, no spoilers. It really makes me wish they would start doing more movies/games based on the old republic cause there was much more conflict, and jedi/sith were much more abundant rather than being scarce like they are in the original trilogy.
@kostas pap and what of malgus, tulak hord, baras, thanaton, marr, malak, nihilus, treia, and most importantly VITIATE None of these sith were miserable, Tulak Hord was a man of conquest who broke armies effortlessly, Nihilus became the living dark side

This has to be one of my favourite videos. The yellow eyes being the first of many physical changes the Sith suffer is the reason i believe Count Dooku was not a true a true Sith.
Bro Palpatine withheld knowledge of the Darkside and Dooku can’t learn knowledge if it’s not there. Unless he had more knowledge he can only feed on little bits that Palpatine gives him.
@@ARGUS-International It's not just the knowledge but also the degree of tapping into the dark energies through wild, uncontrollable and raw emotion. Dooku was too cold, collective and calculated for something like that.
@@JohnnyDominion I think it's to the extent they use sith powers and what Sith powers they use Dooku was pretty new to the dark side and he certainly used it more sparingly then Sidious who'd been heavily using it for decades by ep3. Pretty much all the strongest sith where heavily using some pretty powerful sith magic. The yellow eyes thing seems to be a symptom of giving in fully to the dark side and it's like you can go in and out of it IE when Vader saves luke no yellow eyes but we've seen in comics where vader clearly has yellow eyes and before he had the suit he had yellow eyes while destroying the temple. I imagine its ravaged palpatine so much because hes pretty much the cruellest evilest and most hateful sith ever lmao and thus his eyes are constantly yellow. Hes always fully immersed in the dark side.
I feel like we don't get a lot of Vitiate/Tenebrea/Valkorion videos anymore, because there's an amazing sith whom used the Darkside of the Force and Lightside of the Force in combination and took it to it's extremes so as to become immortal, but the darkside of the force never corrupted him at all...
I read many years ago on how the darkside of the force is so powerful, that it literally destroys the body of it's welder. Part of the story used for 'Dark Empire' (originally published through Dark Horse Comics) showed that Palpatine had clones created, not just in the event of being killed by his enemies, but that the raw power he was welding would eventually burn out his body and kill him, in which 'then', he would just move into the new body and live anew. Palpatine attempted to beat his destiny, and for many years, had successfully done so even 'after' being destroyed by Vader. Of course, this was something that was eventually changed throughout the prequels, particularly in Episode 3 (Mace Windu redirects Papatine's power back on him, which then burned and scarred him).
I like the idea that this kind of degradation really only gets to the "disfiguring" stage, based on how deeply you've drowned yourself into the dark side, and for how long. That said, I like that characters like Kylo Ren, Darth Maul, and Count Dooku haven't really deteriorated at all. Obviously, Darth Vader's disfigured, but we all know that it wasn't the dark side that did that to him. For example, Dooku barely exhibited his Sith eyes, and I like to attribute that fact that he's only been a Sith for about a decade of his life. Kylo Ren thus far never has (that we know of), and again, he's only been immersed in the dark side for a few years, I think. Maul and Vader on the other hand, both seem to have permanent Sith eyes, but no further dark side degradation, by the time they've both spent twenty-ish years as dark-siders; and by that time were each *still* being schooled by Palpatine. Now, with all of that taken into account, it makes us wonder just how long characters like Palpatine and Snoke have been immersed in the dark side, and how deeply they've explored it by the time we were first introduced to each of them. Thirty years? Forty? Fifty?
One thing to note is that part of the reason Darth Nihilus' body was consumed is because of the effects of the Mass Shadow Generator's detonation on his body. The consumption of his body wasnt totally dark side degradation.
Huh, I wonder if this degradation wasn't just physical but also, somehow, damaged the users presence in The Force. Perhaps that's why most Sith can't become Force Ghosts, while others who may have not completely embraced the Dark Side could. In some cases partially, becoming tortured "spirits".
The dark side of the force puts a strain and takes a toll on the body. You rely on extreme emotions. Just like real life, stress takes a toll on ur body. Periodt.
@@jon7684 and as a result were able to both maintain their bodies better and still utilize aspects of the Light as well. Both were deeply dark side users but smarter than those who went fully in one direction. I would say their approach was clearly the wiser.
Tyranus was only a Sith for a brief handful of years and already fairly old when he started with a lot of Jedi training engraved on his style of force use. It's likely he never fully embraced the dark side or if he did it was only very shortly before the clone wars at the earliest (with Sidious needing time to slowly accept the dark side after leaving the Jedi, after all rejecting the Jedi Order isn't synonymous with rejecting the light side) and thus it didn't have time to have an noticable effect. Jerec on the other hand was a mere inquisitor, his training in the dark side was severely limited to the bare minimum needed to do his job and he didn't have any access to the sorts of materials that would allow him to teach himself so he lacked the millennia of collective experience, knowledge and philosophising of the Sith Order to supplement his training in the dark side. Even with prior Jedi training his foray into the dark side was like wading into the water at a beach while a Sith Lord like Bane or Sidious lived in the deepest darkest depths of the ocean.
@@coreymicallef365 incorrect on both points. Dooku was a Sith apprentice for 13 years and fully fledged Sith Lord at least half of that. Jerec was officially only an Inquisitor but had access to higher Sith learning until Sidious cut him off due to his ambition. Jerec trained under the Prophets of the Darkside, his access to Sith artifacts and texts he was charged to find and a study of them even as a Jedi Master. Considering that in the entire Empire only Vader and Sidious were stronger in the Force and Darkside than Vader is further proof Jerec was no mere Inquisitor in power. Both Dooku and Jerec felt they had maxed out the Light potential and added Dark side knowledge and power to their repertoire.
Jedi master Fay managed to become somewhat immortal and stop the aging process. In KotOR2 Atton will notice an almost angelic calming aura around the Exile too.
This leads me to believe that logically, if the sith tapping into the darkside decays their body, and the Jedi using limited lightside force keeps them normally aged, that tapping into extreme pure lightside energy would preserve the body for longer than a species would normally live, no?
The role playing game of star wars provides the answer. In the dark empire source book, it states that the dark side would corrupt The flesh of a dark side user. Which is why the emperor uses clones of himself. The source book came out in 1995, a year after dark empire comics.
They should have kept have kept the EU as dogma and just tweaked it as they went, kind of the way the MCU is doing. They would have had a lot more material to go on and a much happier fan base. By putting it all under the umbrella of “Legends” they kind of shot themselves in the foot. If they were smart, they’ll move away from the Skywalkers and other main trilogy characters and explore and revive secondary and Legend’s characters. Doesn’t have to be exact but maybe a series based on the Admirals with events from their stories now in legends (like the Thrawn trilogy) to anchor them to the former cannon. Since all that is now their legend, what better way to include bits and pieces of them with the new canon. If they don’t show the exact events, then it will still be legend since their is always some semblance of truth in most legends, after all there supposedly was a real Robin of Locksley who’s legend became Robin hood.
I like the idea that it happens when you overdraw from the Force more than what you body can channel too often, this worked the same with Lightsiders in the EU too. That would explain why Palpatine, Dooku, Maul and Revan avoided any physical corruption. Except in Palpatine’s case when his Force Lightning attack was turned against him.
You know you just answered a long debated question:was sidious damaged/transformed face in ep3 his real face after lightning or his face got damaged roght then? You mention here that young Sidious asked if hes body will be deatroyed in time the same way-knowing Palp wouldnt hide his true face from his master its safe to say his face got "burned" by his lightning.A price he was willing to pay for the tretchury of the jedi.
I think he already looked like that from decades of using too much sith magic and being fully immersed in the dark side. He was probably just using the force to hide how bad he was getting.
They are a physical embodiment of sin (Dark Side), and sin left unchecked metastasizes corrupting the body as a whole leaving the outer countenance grotesque, twisted.
Maybe that's why Sidious transformed during his fight with Mace Windu. For years he'd been surpressing his dark side abilities so he could hide as Chancellor, then during the fight he let them out and it corrupted him completely.
Theirs is a more benevolent transformation as it makes them look younger than they should look for their age and it constantly revitalizes them plus it increases their lifespans. And then it also gives what many Sith crave, immortality, though through being Force Ghosts than being able to live on in their physical bodies.
@@shadekerensky3691 It's also interesting that most Sith crave physical immortality, going through artificial means to pro-long their lives while the Dark Side takes it toll. Meanwhile, Jedi get revitalized through the Light, and are content with "immortality" as a Force Ghost.

The Dark Side is like a giant winnowing to those who follow it. Metaphorically removing the frailties of the physical form by literally casting it aside, leaving only pure power. Nihilus is an example of this, becoming a thing of pure Force.
I enjoy how informative this is. I also don't understand why so many people that do videos like this have to stretch out the last word of every sentence.
actually, the light side is observed to keep the users looking young and increase whatever species the user is, lifespan. Only a few disappeared into the force when they died. There are exceptions of course.
Force Ghosts? Jokes aside, the pinnacle of Light Side ability was being able to influence the present as a Force Ghost, while being essentially dead, some lasting longer in this world than others.
I was always bothered by Sidious’s transformation in Revenge of the Sith that was somewhat explained to be the result of Mace Windu directing the force lightning back at him. I always thought Sidious looked as he did due to the Dark Side and not some “accident”.

Alex Eidenier that’s not entirely true since some pure blood sith still experienced degradation

@kostas pap and what of malgus, tulak hord, baras, thanaton, marr, malak, nihilus, treia, and most importantly VITIATE

The yellow eyes being the first of many physical changes the Sith suffer is the reason i believe Count Dooku was not a true a true Sith.
I wouldn't say that since there are many other Sith that used the dark side but did not suffer the same physical deformities.
LegendOfLegends19100 that’s true, you’re right.
In Sion's case, we all know that he had his deformities because he slept with some vibroblades.
Was Sion staying alive even his choice? Or did the dark side just keep him alive

Palpatine was using “force mask” to hide his true appearance
Forty? Fifty?
Palpatine was 87 by the time of rotj and met plagueis when he was 17
Title: "why were so many sith lords physically deformed?"
My clown ass self: "because just like anakin...they tried it.....in their own way."
All other sith lords: get deformed by the intense use of the dark side
palpatine: deforms himself with his own lightning
One thing to note is that part of the reason Darth Nihilus' body was consumed is because of the effects of the Mass Shadow Generator's detonation on his body. The consumption of his body wasnt totally dark side degradation.
I luv Sith eyes, with their burning inferno colors representative of the red hott fire burning on the inside!! 👍☠
Huh, I wonder if this degradation wasn't just physical but also, somehow, damaged the users presence in The Force. Perhaps that's why most Sith can't become Force Ghosts, while others who may have not completely embraced the Dark Side could. In some cases partially, becoming tortured "spirits".
Well Vader was already charred, so he wouldn't have much to destroy

And yet Tyranus and Jerec staved off corruption of body while still gaining Sith Lord levels of power without degradation.
Yep.

Quite a few of Force Healing powers are Light-sided and yeah, IIRC, Jedi often had longer lifespans, than normal for their species.

The role playing game of star wars provides the answer. In the dark empire source book, it states that the dark side would corrupt The flesh of a dark side user. Which is why the emperor uses clones of himself. The source book came out in 1995, a year after dark empire comics.
I love Legends
You and me pal.
Yeah. It doesn’t matter what Disney says. Lol.
Legends is canon for me.

Me too.... I wish Disney had just let authors and game companies continue Legends side-by-side with the current canon.
Having Sith eyes is the coolest thing ever.

Good job on the video
Thank you Brian!
Question: If jedi embraced the transformation of the force. What changes would they experience?
Theirs is a more benevolent transformation as it makes them look younger than they should look for their age and it constantly revitalizes them plus it increases their lifespans. And then it also gives what many Sith crave, immortality, though through being Force Ghosts than being able to live on in their physical bodies.
Erectile dysfunction
@@shadekerensky3691 It's also interesting that most Sith crave physical immortality, going through artificial means to pro-long their lives while the Dark Side takes it toll.
Meanwhile, Jedi get revitalized through the Light, and are content with "immortality" as a Force Ghost.

The Dark Side offers great power quickly, BUT it demands MORE and MORE from those that call upon it.....
This dark side degradation is similar to what Lord Voldemort experienced in the Harry Potter series. When he immersed himself in dark magic, he underwent a radical change that made his features look inhuman.
