Same thing for me, mate. The last few years have been filled with difficulties and ill-being, and rollerblading has helped me find a few moments of peace, of harmony with myself and the environment.
Too funny, this popped up in my feed because after years of ice skating and Hockey when I was younger, I’ve recently taken up inline skating and I’m finding it harder to skate backwards on wheels so I’ve been watching a few videos. What I wasn’t expecting was to see the Cottonwood YMCA outside rink where I’ve practiced a few times in the last year. Subscribed and perhaps I’ll see you around.
Same here! I'm trying hard to take advantage of how much I have to relearn after all those lost years, and work both sides in everything I can. Correcting a lot of bad habits I had, too.
You said to “get some big wheels” and I recently bought some but to be honest I prefer my small wheels or “aggressive skates” I love the stiff/low to the ground setup makes me feel like I’m driving an aggressive car, sounds weird but that’s the best I can compare it to 🤔 I’m looking to pick up some fresh Roces M12s 🤩 but no shops near me that sells them :/
I just got myself a pair of rollerblades and I've been watching tutorials for beginners since I haven't skated in 17 years, came across your channel and so far I'm enjoying your instructions. However, I would recommend that the cameraman shows your feet more because it seems that sometimes you're doing something but your feet are out of the frame and I don't get to see how your feet move. Not sure if anyone mentioned the same as me... Other than that, great video! 👍🏽
Been analysing your foot position and noticing how you (and my skilled-up backwards-skating friends) keep the leading skate mostly on the outside edge when skating backwards. Not sure, but this might just be a Eureka moment.
Hey dude, love the way you presented this one 👌🏼. I’m by no means a pro skater, but I feel like something that really helps my switch shoulder is to just get in a mini and go fakie to 180 back and forth, but never switching my foot position so the front foot becomes the back foot after each 180. It teaches your body that each side and each direction of spin are equal. Works for going forward as well!
Thanks, that is great advice. I do this in minis here and there. Boy it burns the quads up though lol gonna give it a few more gos before I cover it though.

I hate looking over my switch shoulder too, it would be cool to breifly talk about the more awkward way of turning being referred to as a illusion when done before a trick, keep up the good work
Switch fakie is SOOO difficult! My main problem with it, is that my steering foot tends to not turn enough of a 180 and ends up steering behind my back; thus, tripping myself up and losing balance. I need to work on it a lot more.
Hmm that may be because your actually the other foot back? I skate very similar in the steering and control of the foot. I skate fakie great right shoulder back but when I go left shoulder back my right foot flows better while my left is weak at steering lol keep after it! Takes time but it's worth it!
Acosta Blades right. It’s switch, lol. My regular is left shoulder, left spin. With my switch being right shoulder, my right foot gets all messed up with steering and 90 percent of time, it tracks behind my body.
oh wait... I did it wrong all the time? :D I did it the opposite way. the steering leg was my pushing leg. I had always problems with looking backwards and holding balance with my version of it. maybe this helps me ^^ going to try it on the weekend!
this works a lot better! especially holding balance. I also can get much faster with less effort. still have some problems with looking backwards, but I think this comes with time. right now I'm still a bit cramped (not sure if this is the right word :D) because I'm not used to skate that way and my feet keep twisting while looking back. thank you ♥♥♥

I have the 3 wheel rollerblades, is it more difficult to transition to backwards because of the height? It seems easier with the rollerblades that you use. Subscribed btw!
your tutorials help so much man. i started rollerblading almost 3 weeks ago and i’ve been learning so fast, one problem i have right now is stopping faster and skating backwards when going up ramps at the skatepark. like i can drop in but when i go up a ramp i have to do a 180 to go back down

But I never ever learned how to skate backwards, so with some padding for my old bones nowadays I’m defo gonna try this pivot, stork and leg weave action. 😁 Well wishes for no broken bones please. 🙏🏾 😂 xx
I’m 40 years old and I feel 40. I have twin boys who I just taught how to ride their bikes without training wheels. They are too fast for me. When I was a teen, in-line skating made me so happy. I ordered a pair of skates and I’m waiting for their arrival. I told my boys “I will go faster than you.” They don’t believe me. Ha ha. I can’t wait … I remember how fun it was. I just hope I don’t break a hip…lol
So I've been skating almost 2 weeks and can't figure it the "correct" way of skating backwards. I turn to my left and my left leg goes back, and use my right for momentum, is this correct? I was trying to do the opposite and the left leg doesn't want to move fluidly like the right does. The s pattern with my left is terrible.
I don't think it should be called fakie in blading or skiing. it a backward and forward motion. For board sports , your body is traveling left or right (regular or fakie) depending on which is your front foot. So, my opinion is backwards and fakie are not equal.
I want to know more about turning backwards. I can turn forward in both directions quite well, but backwards, I can only turn left. So when I turn right going backwards, my left foot should be in front, right?
I am not a beginner and started to skate aggressive again after 23 years but i realized something i never thought about when i was skating on fitness skates the last years, when i skate forward i have always my right foot in front when i do a 180 my right foot shows also in the direction of my ride. For fitness it never were a problem, but in the mini ramp it is still confusing. When i just push without turning, i always intuitively bring my right foot into the riding direction no matter if its forward or backward, this switch of the foot position at highest point is causing instability. So i have to chose to learn either ride with my left foot in front when i ride forward or learn to skate backwards with the left foot showing in riding direction, but this makes me unstable too. I totally forgot how i did it when i was a teenager.
Hahshshs. I started skating in 93. To maybe 99. I can't really recall what skates i had. I recall buying fatboys wheels. Well long story short i began to wanna hit the streets to relive my youth. Im 40 now. Trying to by skates now when. Back then we only had 1. Need a lil help. What do you recommend me? Thank you for the videos
What about skating fakie in curves? When skating forward you can accelerate in curves by putting one foot over the other. You can do something similiar when skating fakie by putting one foot behind to the other foot and accelerating while skating curves.
Why in the name of god didn’t he show the backwards walk ? Why demonstrate it with forward skating? Bizarre! But in the end, a pretty good and positive tutorial.

It would've been great to see your feet positioning more
What about skating fakie in curves? When skating forward you can accelerate in curves by putting one foot over the other. You can do something similiar when skating fakie by putting one foot behind to the other foot and accelerating while skating curves.
Why in the name of god didn’t he show the backwards walk ? Why demonstrate it with forward skating? Bizarre! But in the end, a pretty good and positive tutorial.
hello bro, I'm just starting to learn inline skates, especially aggressive inline, can you help me list the steps that have to be learned, thank you in advance, and also sorry my english is bad, and use google translate. thanks....
My brother and I have been watching Hockey again. No ice rinks in the surrounding 100 miles from here, so we've been getting into roller blading
Awesome tutorial! Love the channel. I just got into aggressive inline skating and your videos help a lot. I just bought a pair of blades with an anti-rocker base. Do you think this will make it difficult to do the pumping while skating backwards? Thanks once again!
Shouldn't make to much of a difference. I Skated anti for 15 yrs before going flat
@@acostablades8138 Epic! Thanks for replying! Keep up the great content!
Just learning how to roller blade... I see people moving both legs while skating backwards... is that another option or technique?
These videos are awesome bro I haven’t skated in so long it feels good to be able to pick it back up with a little bit of guidance and instruction. Thanks for making these videos
Glad you like them!
Brilliant video, this is just what I need to learn how to transition from forwards to backwards skating. Thank you
I go backwards with my foot in front it’s 10x faster
The camera needed to show your full body shots. The voice qualilty was good but kind of long winded. Otherwise great video
Thx dude rlly appreciate it🖤
Any time
Hey i struggle with the transition to back ward skating i tried to do it slow amd thought i had figured it out but immediately fell ever time do you have any tips?
On my 3rd video , quick question what kinda of blades you have ? And does that matter for beginners?
Im a figure skater that just got rollerblades. Lets see how hard it is
Good lesson. Im new to inline and learned on ice. When I skate backwards I default to alternating c-cuts. Is that a detriment?
Sadly the only smooth surfaces i have is the roads outside the neighbor hood which has a bunch of cars going through and the other one is my house floor but it's small
Good video mate. I used to skate as a kid, and play roller hockey. Recently started taking the kids to the roller rink every week. My skills are still there, you never forget.
One thing I can’t seem to do which I used to do perfectly is ‘walk’ around a corner whilst skating backwards if you know what I mean ?? (Not sure how else to explain it ha)
Can you jog my memory ?
Hey josh, can you help im having trouble maintaining speed, usually culminates in eating it when i try to t stop
The camera man is hurting this video. He's always cutting off your legs
Really cool..this video useful bro.❤
love your video bro... stay safe .. very interesting .. and fun... ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much for doing this because I just got Rollerblades
I'm right shoulder spin to the left too. 😂
