Emotiva XPA-11 Gen3 - Is This The Best Amplifier For Dolby Atmos?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 июл 2024
- This is a quick video about using an home theater receiver vs amplifier. There are certain power limitations to consider when using an AVR especially when using large floor speakers. If you want the absolute best sound you can get then you may want to consider buying a dedicated amplifier such as the Emotiva XPA-11 Gen3.

Great video Chris! I own this unit and another 3 channel unit to power my 7.2.4 system with a Marantz AV7705 Processor. It is unreal.
This is probably one of the best explained video on external amplifiers I've seen on YT. Like you, I was confused by them for the longest. I'm looking at picking the 2 channel Emotiva XPA and a pair of RF-7 III's to replace my RP-8000F's. Rest of the setup is RP-504C, RP-402S x2, R-115SW x2, and an older Pioneer Elite receiver. I see that PB13 Ultra you added--must be a beast! Unfortunately I don't have a ballin ass dedicated man cave yet. Thanks for sharing.
I love watching your videos. They are always clear, concise to the point and with very high production value. I wish more AA creators would focus on production value and really try to compete with others. One other thing, when I really want the straight information this is one of five channels that I turn to. You are up there with Linus tech tips IMO.
Love your videos man, you are helping me figure out my next target for my home theatre. Keep up the great work.
I have two EMOTIVA powering my eleven speaker set up... excellent product... excellent customer support
I finally ordered my XPA-11 Gen3 due to your video. I heard of them before but I never paid too much attention on them. I upgraded my AV to a Marantz and came across information on the EPA-11 Gen3. After your video, I just hit the purchase button and I LOVE the way my set up sounds with all the upgrades!!! Thank you for the video!
This was a good and interesting video. I have been through several generation of Denon (4802R, 4308ci and x7200wa) and always been happy. Have dual PSA subs and then Klipsch setup for 7.2.2. In my room the Denon;a have never worked hard, but I have always been enticed with idea of external AMP. This video has me more intrigued than ever. Thinking of Emotiva 7 channel with 2 channel BasX so I can have all channels with over 100 watts. Always struggled how if everything is calibrated how the amp can make a difference if the AVR is not working hard.
I've been using Emotiva for more then 10 years. the same two amps, Just Flawless.... And these are in my living room. Basement is another story....
Love your videos. Could you do a room tour of your current setup? I want to set my own home theatre up so would be helpful
Great video, clear and professional with great sound. I also dig your personality. You covered some good points, definitely a lot more to consider with adding a separate power amplifier to ones system. Good job overall man....
Great information. Well done, thorough review. Thank you for sharing this.
Totally agree with you bro added a Emotiva XPA 3 gen 3 to my Denon 4500 and yes it added something to my sound quality and my wife noticed but like you said she could care less, if we were only using the sound directly from the TV that's suitable to her... LOL
Chris, thanks for the review. Love the blockbuster shirt as well. lol
As a mixed race dude who never knew his pa,wish u were my dad man.Bet u a great pa.God bless.Keep up the stirling work !
Just found your channel. I really appreciate your content. Its helping me a lot. I would like to find a DIY kit for 5.1 but so far no luck.
I would agree that adding a power amp doesn’t necessarily mean your system can be louder but more dynamic. I have the A-700 - which is from the BASX series by emotiva - and I notice a difference in dynamics versus The built on amplifiers on my Denon X3600.
I have this very amp attached to a Marantz AV7703, running 11 channels with same klipsch speakers but an SVS PB16 sub and WOW, so good for home theater. Not quite as impressed listening to 2 channel music, but that is not what my system is designed to deliver. I absolutely love this amp and highly recommend. Cheers.
Sounds like my EXACT system lol. I plan on adding a 2nd PB16 though
I use a QSC amp. 1450a with 300 w @ 8 ohms / 2 channel stereo for my dual 15 in fronts. Used the Denon X6500 for the other channels. QSC amp only cost about $880, a lot cheaper than the Emotiva, but it sounds amazing.
Extremely useful and I was thinking on the same lines .
Great content as usual. Will there be any videos about amps that are great, but a bit more budget friendly?
I own a Pioneer sc-LX901 receiver (145W/ch) and I bought an EMOTIVA 6 channel XPA amplifier after watching this video and some 140W/ch onwers praised the Emotiva SPA amp. I had quite high expectations. However, after installing the amplifier and comparing them for more than 2 hours, (both bi-amping Front & center) there was no difference - dynamics, clarity, details, and volume except sound color. The Pioneer is a D3 amp, so it's a little more vivid and bright, and the Emotiva is an AB amp so it's warmer and smoother. Both have great sound. I preferred the D3 amp sound more, so I returned the Emotiva.
Do you feel like the side and back surrounds are underpowered? I have a similar 7.2.4 setup just swap 15s with 600ms.
Love to see a video of how you hooked this up
Most def
I may consider doing this. Thanks
Agreed. I'd like to see it as well please
Nice video 👌 I've got my 3 front stage speakers. I've been looking at the emotiva gen3 with 3 channels, would that be the power modules or the stereo modules?
Great review! Just curious, would it have any effect on listening to music through the AVR?
Once you hooked up the amp did you go onto the Denon and run Audyssey again?. In addition did you any settings on your denon receiver. Wasn't sure if you should turn audyssey off since you now have the amp to power the speakers
Did you power any heights or surround speakers? Did you think the 65 watts are good enough for the rear, surround and height speakers? Am considering the XP11 and the Emotiva 11. I have SVS speakers, front, surround & heights.
Hey bro! Is there a difference between Monolith/Emotiva/Rotel looking something to beef up my BW
Hey Chris, I have Definitive towers 9040, has Sub woofers built in. I use. Denon 3300 receiver, is it OK to use a dedicated Amp for my set up?
Great review! I think I'm gonna order this Amp. One question, I really like your cabinet but I can't find it online. Can you please tell where you got it please. Thanks!
i have a question about xpa 11 gen 3 does you have any noise coming from smps because i heard a noise comes from the smps while i put my ears near the chassis on the top and i don't know if it's normal to have little noise or what shall to do to avoid that hope Chris Majestic reply me ASAP.
Awesome review but just one question. Where do you get these amps? Via there online store only? Seems like it would take forever and they have a few models that aren't in stock. Where did you get yours?
Please need your I have a yamaha avr-1070 receiver and polk audio lsim series with polk audio powered 650 sub woofer what is the best powered amplifier to use
I bought all Klipsch in wall speakers, I have a R 5502 for the center and a pair of R5650, what receiver would you recommend to use on this setup, I also use a Klipisch powered sub
Chris , Good Morning. How many speakers are you powering with the XPA-11. What is the wattage if all channels are running 8 ohm speakers.
New to the channel. Nice video. Well spoken
Why didn't you discuss the Denon Atmos Configuration using the Amp?
Have u thought of looking at Casio Projectors and see if there worth the money
Nice setup... what subs are you running?
I have a question....
Can we use a cheap avr and connect it with a good amp....Would the amp only amplify the sound from the receiver or the avr would give it's best quality (low thd value) and the amp would amplify it?
OR
The amp would just amplify the power or signal from avr. The quality still pretty much depends on the avr.
I have a samsung q90r soundbar .... Is there any other way to get full dolby atmos without amplifier.... amplifier is too pricey....
Did your sub got connected to the emotiva too or just from your AVR?
Hey Chris! Ive seen this video twice already. I have a new home theatre room and I am in way over my head. Mind if I ask you a question on a setup with this emotiva? Thanks, Leo
Separates is the way to go. Once I stopped buying receivers I realized it’s the best decision I’ve ever made for my HT. Besides, it’s a lot easier to just upgrade your pre-pro instead of having to replace your amplification components too. It’s a no- brainer.
No stop buying those multi channel power amps. Mono blocks rule... Go extremely seperate 😂
The wife caring less comment got me ROFL
Still using the xpa11 with your klipsch speakers?
I use to own the Earthquake Cinenova amp..3 channel that weighed probably 90lbd
Sound character on this one. Do u think it sound warm or ”harsh”
So, the next video will be reviewing 11 Conrad Johnson monoblocks? 😁
Nice video! How do these do with power consumption? I have issues with tripping breakers in certain areas of my house, do these require a heavy power load to work well?
It depends on you setup. I did have issues with my subs with my 15A circuit in the past though so I do recommend a 20A circuit if you have 2 subs and a power amp
So what amp are you using today?
I recognize those JBL 305p (maybe 306?) in the background. Best speaker I've ever heard! :) Was there any hiss in the speakers that you noticed using the external amp?
LSR308. Yep. Great speakers. I did have a hiss when connected directly to my computer but it went away when I switched to the Red Scarlet.
How many more years the 4k players will survive? I know that many manufacturers arent making 4k players, but I prefer the video quality of the disk over streaming. Also I'm a collector Please make a video about this subject. Thank you.
My denon 1500h only has a few pre-outs. How can I make this work.if at all. Thank you!
You would need the 3000 series at a minimum. So either the X3500H or X3600H
Did you use your Denon as the preamp or something else?
I'm using an Onkyo 656 with Magnepan speakers. I'm pretty happy with the sound but my dad had 2 Conrad Johnson monoblocks and my brother took those. 🙁
Hate to buy a dedicated preamp now.
Yes. The denon worked perfectly
I have the 3 channel XPA 3 with mac YBA for the front. You can see my review on thomas&stereo :-)
I'm getting one 💯
Are the 65 watts in the rear powerful enough for svs ultra surrounds and height speakers?
Yes, they are.
Can u review the Benq Th685 ? 😁👍
Awesome review. Arw you having issue with annoying buzz/hiss/static when nothing is playing? I have Marantz avr, klipsch speakers and got same emotiva but 5 channel and man - that hizz/static sound is pretty annoying when silent scene is playing.
What part is hissing or static, The Amp itself or the speakers? Did you find a remedy?
personally I'd likely use a xpa 7 as primary audio and this as a 14 channel mix doing 21.xx setup
Will you be keeping this amp? I currently own the XPA-7 Gen 3 thinking of replacing my Outlaw 5000 for an XPA-5 Gen 3. I remember the first time I went to separates, it just blew my mind :)
Did you replace your outlaw, if so why? Care to part with the 5000.
yep a power amp was my first upgrade. Got a Marantz power amp.
I have a 5 channel emotiva. I wonder of anything over 2 or 3 channel amps are even needed if u also have a multi channel receiver? You can get a nice 2 3 channel amp to push the fronts and run the surrounds off the receiver. Since the fronts take the most juice....thoughts
That would work just fine but my surrounds actually sound better connected to the amp as well even though I didn't expect it
@@ChrisMajestic well more clean power to any speaker will always sound better no matter what.
@Lift1One so you have big speakers for your surrounds? I was thinking get a really good 3 channel (McIntosh is my wish) then run surrounds off reciever. But if you have hearty surrounds then you may need dedicated power.
Hey Chris, love your videos, been watching for years. Just noticed your awesome component furniture that your center speaker is on. Could you please tell me the brand, model, or share a link?
Besta from Ikea 😉
@@ChrisMajestic thanks a bunch for the reply. You're the besta.
We’re the 65W rear/surround enough to power the back...? Great video thanks
More than enough!
Chris Majestic thanks.... deciding between 11 channel Emotiva or Monolith
That blockbuster t shirt made me feel old lol
nice job
Hi Chris Majestic! What is a media room? My dad and I want to make a room into a home theatre and an entertainment room to throw a party also. We are ready to invest but very confused on the difference between a home theatre and media room. Can someone please please comment on this.
Same thing. Different names.
I am a bit concerned with the power disparity of high power to low power channels. I was looking at XPA 9 for my 7.2.2, but am leaning toward maybe XPA7 for all but the Atmos channels then BasX 2 for the Atmos channels. Also looking at the Monolith 7X + BasX or maybe even ATI 527NC (except that puppy is pricey).
your AVR can run the atmos channels since most in ceilings have lot watts needed. Then you can go XPA 7. I went XPA 5 and basx6
Hi dude why it's not having volume control?
May I know the reason
The volume is controlled by the Processor, or the AV amp. This sits between them and the speakers.
I love there speakers
Your content is great. Would I still want this with a Marantz SR8012? Their website says otherwise.
I also had my Marantz SR8012 powering my entire Klipsch 7.2.4. The strain on it was alot cause I ended up frying it, had to get it repaired. I added the XPA3 GEN3 to my fronts and their is a HUGE difference! Not only are you given ur fronts the juice they need with a dedicated amp but you also (1) take some load off from the AVR but also (2) give the rest of the speakers more juice from the AVR.
Currently in process of upgrading the XPA3-GEN3 to a DR3
@macho9556 I really appreciate the feedback!
do i need both the receiver and amplifier or amplifier only will do?
You need both
What would you suggest for something like that but with even more power?
monolith 11x or emotiva xpa 5 and emotiva basx6
Hi Chris a little tangential, but what tv stand are you using?
Ikea Besta
Would you recommend this amp to run 7 full range tower speakers
Absolutely. Just keep in mind that the surround channels don't provide as much wattage as the front soundstage.
So my lcr's can only handle 200 watts so this being 300 watts what will happen?
they will have headroom. the AVR still controls the volume so unless you crank it up all the way and make your ears bleed. It wont damage your speakers.
I just bought BenQ HT3550 I send it back got problems 1/2 of the pictures got like lines and the other side it was fine now I waiting for a replacement now I’m concerned that happened again and then get stuck with it I got old Mitsubishi projector HD720 for about 13 years I only replace the light bulb it was time to upgrade then this happened with BenQ can I trust this company
Great Video. I recently purchased 4 polk atrium 8 outdoor speakers for my patio. What would you recommend? I'm thinking of a portable Amp that's compatible with Alexa. I dont want to constantly going back inside to change the settings. Any suggestions would be most help ?
i m using a old amp panasonic sa-xr70 6.1 channel classic one i just need listen to music ...
Great information, but is there a recommendation for a amplifier that good quality but less than $1200?
For most people I would recommend something like the Emotiva XPA-3 and use it for your front soundstage and leave the surround speakers connected to the AVR.
@@ChrisMajestic awesome, actually took your advice 👌
Hey great great Video bro. I asking all the RUclipsrs something with a issue I am having. I have a Epson 5040 with a Denon 4400. I can not get 4k to play on my Roku ultra. Got any thoughts or hear anything about that? Again sweet video bro 👊.
Might be an hdcp issue. What happens when you connect the roku directly to the projector
@@ChrisMajestic I don't have it connected I will try that and get back to bro thanks for the recommendation. ,👌
Hey, how do you like running two different subs? I don't see many people do that.
It was only temporary. I have two svs subs now
Ok. I didn't want to come across as judgemental because mixing subs in that manner usually is not great sounding, but I also know that you know more about ht than I do, so I wanted to make sure I was not missing something. Great videos btw, you do a great job of saying what you need to say in a very clear manner without making a 20 minute video.
Thanks. No worries. I was waiting for someone to mention it. 😁
Thanks
Please rate the price in description.
Can you please review a monoprice monolith amp one day?
"Huge power hungry speakers"- Shows the RTi A9s. Perfect example!
Do u also connect the subs to the amp?
No. Most subs have an amp built in
@@ChrisMajestic so i connect the subs to the reciever and the rest of the speakers to the amp?
I have the exact opposite problem of most... I need an atmos processor because I need lower power amps than receivers provide. Lets just say I am building a special system😂 looking at that "cheap" emotiva processor. Seems to have all I need
damn, i thought you was retired Richard Sherman for a second lol.
Lol, my wife just told me I wasted my money on a new pair of Magnepan 1.7i's because they sound just like my little ported 2 way speakers. Go figure. Nice amp, great bargain!
Wow
1st comment?? Let's go!
300w vs 65w. I hate how unbalanced the power distribution is on that amp.
Yeah that's my thinking, I want the same power to all speakers. I know the fronts soundstage, and especially the centre will do the heavy lifting. I have worked out how many watts I need for each channel to hit reference, at my listening position, and 65w is not enough. I have Emotiva Power amps But the BasX line, they are cheaper give me enough power, and are more balanced in the Wattage output. I don't need 300w. 128W will hit 105db on my speakers at my listening position. Although I rarely go above 85db.
Even my wife knew the difference even though she don't care about this stuff that's me all day I tell my girl about all the speakers and all the new stuff that coming out with and she's like okay😭😭😭😭
Emotiva 11 channels 53 lbs
Monoprice 7 channels 97 lbs.
heavier means better.. like the girls you date.. nice
So, what’s the price on that thing?
$2000
@@ChrisMajestic 🤯
Considering it's an 11 ch power amp, that is not a bad price. The XPA DR3 is a 3 ch amp and it's also 2000. But then again it's 475watts x 3 if I'm not mistaken
@@macho9556 Are there lower power 3 channel amps?
Now if the wife said she has a difference then you know it's a difference.
Let me look in between the seat cushions here. I'm sure I can come up with $2000.00!
It's not a lot of money if it's something you really want....
@@FatterTony Did I say it was a lot of money? Believe me, with two separate home theaters in the house already. ANY additions I choose to make are within reach. That was a joke little buddy. But obviously you have no sense of humor. Sad!
@@LA-db9xj little buddy? Why try and be condescending? If you actually have 2 cinemas, we say bully for you (means 'well good for you then')
