Music was so much better in the 1980s. Fun fact; the backing singers here are the same backing singers who played the Trevor Horn tribute concert in 2004.
Even though I'm not a huge fan of some of these songs, the fact that ALL of this is live - the vocals, the guitar, the piano, the keys playing the samples, the drums and percussion. It's just fantastic. It gives me a new perspective of a group that I used to think just played around with samplers and computers.
Which one is Anne Dudley???? I’m thinking the back up singer tall blonde? I say this because she looks like and dances like the same back up singer who was with Bowie during Live Aid. Am I correct???
I saw this tour in Toronto. It was the first time I ever saw samplers being used in a live setting. It was truly eye opening if not somewhat disorienting. You couldn’t be sure of who was doing what. Incredible. I used to have a vhs copy of this tour. Wish it would be released on dvd.
@@imdjc4 I do my best to keep up at 61 but it does get harder. I love a lot of “new” electronica as well as the resurgence of Prog rock. A lot of excellent music if you know where to look.
Achingly 80s - but still holds-up SO many years later. Striking that the arch synth & sample group still used so many real instruments & voices. Okay, JJ's spoken part is a bit toe-curling (as was Morley's on one, later album) & TAoN could be a bit up themselves at times - but they were pushing music forward in different ways.
@@lassemann1677 doh! Yes, you're right, (not even a computer) most would just stand in front of a DJ setup, twist knobs (that does nothing) and bob their heads.😳🤦🏽♂️😂
It's intresting you say that . In the original line up there was only 1 musician , Anne Dudley. The others were JJ Jeckzalik a computer programmer and sample collector, Gary Langan and Trevor Horn , both record producers
Alas this was after Trevor Horn had spit from AON, due to contractual/financial clashes.. Or rather it was ZTT's business head, Trevor's wife, that triggered the rifts, as she was apparently quite hard headed when it came to all things business. It's similarly why Frankie Goes To Hollywood, fell out with ZTT as well... Thankfully by the 90's, the likes of Anne Dudley & Trevor were friends again..

I can understand. AON is my favourite drug since 40 years and I'm feeling still healthy :)

Very cool intro 😇
This band were "thinking outside of the box" before the phrase was coined!
Thanks Internet for this video 💯
Few studios had even 1 Fairlight. JJ has at least 4 in a live setup. WOW.
1 Fairlight would cost around $120.000 in today's money, they have 4 in addition to other expensive keyboards.
i love this performance since i first saw it possibly 1st time round its been stuck on a loop in my head.......

It may well be. It was a long time ago. I don’t think it was at Massey Hall so you may be jogging my memory.

Always like something different and they certainly were!!!
Aahhh..the time before computers. lots of work, but totally worth it
Not exactly accurate. Two of the synth/samplers they used (Fairlights) were essentially computers that could sequence sound patterns internally.
@@jazzyDetroit you know what I mean..no way they would have 4 singers today, right?😉

It’s a shame that business interferes with the continuance of great music.
Excellent.
I never got to see AoN. So its really interesting to see them actually make their music.
