Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
@TheD0RKNIGHT, Nothing amazing about a Tennessean or Kentuckian being able to shoot. Most of us get firearms for birthdays and Christmas before we can walk! :-)
"Well, they kick, it's a 12 gauge. Ya know, if you dont want recoil, get an air gun! -- Classic Kickok45! Nice job, Hickok45!
"Tactical... so, that means it'll just do all kinds of amazing things."
Words of wisdom from hickock45
“If you shoot a slug at this distance, you don’t get much spread.” LOL 😂😂
@PETE1760, I don't really like a heat shield. I specifically did not want one. You saw how much shooting I did here, and heat was not a problem. Guess it could be, but I don't like the idea of having to either take it off to wipe down the barrel or else wonder if there's dirt and moisture under there slowly rusting my barrel.
@smookee408, I just look down the barrel and put the bead on the target. Seems to work.
Sorry to hear about Gunner...my condolences to you and your family. I'm definitely a huge fan of the Mossberg 500 & 590 ...extremely durable guns. Great vid!
@Meanbean1992, Even a .50 BMG tracer round looks slow if the camera is behind it. These slugs are actually pretty zippy. My shoulder will attest to that. :-)
I have a 9 year old lab that is my best friend. I feel the pain in your voice. I hope you and John are doing okay. Thanks for letting us in your life. ~Alldogsgotoheaven
Hickok45, you are hands down the best of all gun channels on RUclips! Very informative, knowledgeable and an absolute joy to watch your videos! I wish you were my grandfather! Beautiful 590 A1. I have a 20 inch A1 with Choate pistol grip stock, XS ghost ring sights, and recently added a TRS 25 optic. Couldn't have a tougher shotgun!
He a good old country boy in god bless the USA in are good buddy Hickok 45 in thank you for the Vedo my friend
the sound of spent shells hitting the ground... mmmmm never gets old :D
ChromeArty That’s me
love the sound when shells are loaded into tube, never gets old lol
Same here.
And when they hit concrete floor after being ejected
Yup
I like how you can hear a neighbor shooting too. Haha. Good ole Tennessee!
+TheMotonp2010 One of his neighbors is tnoutdoors9 ;)
Alaska actually
I'm addicted to Hickock videos. He is the best, all the guns he recommend I definitely purchased them. I learn tremendously from Hickock.
i literally watched this vid 8+ times start to finish over a 3 year period
I freaking LOVE Shotguns!!! THE best weapon ever! Very versatile!
Hickock gets me into so much trouble. When it comes to 12 gauges I have 2 870s one of which is a tactical model , a saiga 12, a 935 ,a 930 spx, a 500 and a KSG. My wife shouldn't notice if I get 590a1 I've had my eye on because of this video.
Levi Baptiste hahahaha just hide the box and don't use the credit card you`ll be fine!! :p
I have 2 590a1`s same as in the video I like them a lot.
Levi Baptiste hahaha sounds familiar. i'm only 18.5 years old, but since my birthday i've bought a C39v2, remington 870 express, ruger gp100, tri-star raptor ATAC, and just yesterday a CAI FURY II (vepr-12 clone), and now i want to buy a 590 special purpose!!! what is wrong with me lol?!? i've got a buddy that's taken a liking to my 870 tho, so maybe that'll be the kickstarter for my 590 ;)
Butters Da Baller That's how it goes man. Keep the one's you shoot and sell/trade the ones you don't. I rarely keep most of my guns for more than a year. Just a few old long guns I keep for sentimental value. Only thing that sucks about that is constantly buying new holsters and magazines! Such is life. It keeps my holster guy in business lol
Fox Favinger also curious, how much did you get your special purpose 590 for? And where from? (If you don't mind me asking..?)
I have a benelli m4, a local store is getting some used police magnum 870's this week so I am hoping to get one by next week and these videos have me looking at mossbergs as well. I love shotguns for some reason.
@Lorbera, They are both really good ones, but I think I prefer the Delica and will probably go back to it. The thumb hole is more easily accessed in the Delica for me.
I like this recording style, very entertaining to watch and he grips us immediately with those initial action shots! I find myself smiling the entire time I'm watching because these videos, the shooting and talking has a very honest feel and it's all simply, entertaining!
"If you dont want recoil, get an air gun i guess." Great line. Spoken like a true man.
@shoobadoo1, Thanks. I have a little footage taken about 20 years ago on some VHS tapes somewhere. The problem with trying to get video at those matches was that you were just watching from behind and often not even able to get the targets in the frame. One of these days John is going to convert all that stuff to digital and maybe stick it in a montage. I think maybe there's a short clip of me shooting in a cowboy match or GSSF (Glock) match in one of the Rapid Fire videos or montages.
@lakers33uiv, Right now we're giving our subscribers a chance to watch new videos without them. You'll see ads on older videos, but they are the "skippable" ones. It's how the ammo bills get paid and why we are happy to do as many videos as we have time for.
Thank you Hickok for sharing your passion with those of us that appriciate it!!
I had almost as much fun watching you have fun shooting that 590a1. That’s a honey and on my short list. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. The only thing better is being there! Cheers guy!
Some people think clay pots are for plants and for planting flowers. They're actually targets hahaha
Yeah I used to think two liter soft drinks were for drinking, now I know better.
Always a pleasure, Hickok. I'm happy to know that when someone searches for videos on popular firearms, they're very likely to find your videos. You're an excellent role model for experienced and novice shooters.
I really love your vids. Man I wish I had property like you have. I have to pay $20 an hour at the range and they don't allow any fun. Just paper, no reactive targets.
You ARE SUPERMAN Mr. Hickock45, I just got a old H&R .12 gauge single shot break open. Those are so light they kick with a "Heavy" field load fired through them. 55 shells later I be a bruised pretty good. Love it, badge of honor ;) Thank you for having so much fun for our entertainment and education.
Watching Hickok videos, and an anti gun advertisement plays. Get out of my sight.
Anyway, I love your videos, Hickok. I pass a lot of time watching them, and I often end up falling asleep to your voice while watching them at night.
I know this guy sounds like a badass teddy bear
That was great! For new shooters, you don`t get much spread with a slug. I have a Mossberg 590A1, and I have noticed you have to hold an inch, maybe an inch and a half low when shooting one oz. slugs at twenty feet, or a little farther, in order for the slug to hit the point you are aiming at. Something to remember when shooting at close distance, like inside a house.
I don’t know that I’d use a slug indoors. The phrase over penetration comes into play in that scenario. You just can’t always choose where you engage the threat and it wouldn’t be good when that heavy slug blows through that wall and hits what’s on the other side. Generally for home defense indoors I don’t use anything heavier than #4 buckshot or high velocity steel BB shot. Both are very effective at room distances.
"If you shoot a slug at this distance, you don't get much spread either"
- Hickok45, 2012 (14:04)
I have watched this video over and over and over! If you can’t get to the range like you should, you can always live vicariously through Hickok45! I love it!
I love the Montecristo Cigar boxes!
1) You're correct, gunfights are very mobile situations and home invasions (where you'd be using a shotgun) usually involve more than one assailant.
2) I wouldn't use a .44 or a .500 because they are are too hard for ME to control in a high speed stressful situation, they throw off WAY too much flash, and are actually louder than a slug gun.
3) You aim EVERYTHING, if you are just pointing buckshot, you are doing it incorrectly.
4) Thank you for your service. It is truly appreciated.
Hickok, you're my hero.
I've still been feeling real sad for Gunner's loss too, and your words in the beginning "Gunner liked to have fun, and that's what we're gonna' do; we're gonna' have fun, for Gunner and for us too" helped a little bit tonight. Take care, Greg & God Bless.
If any watermelon seeds survived, you might have some Natural Born Targets down range in late summer.
I have had my eye on this shotgun for about a year. After watching part one and part two I could not resist. Picked one up today along with some slugs. You deserve a commission! Thanks for all of your videos!
"if you dont want recoil, get an air gun"
-hickok45
I own the mossberg M590A1 Magpul séries and it’s a thing of beauty with a badass look !
You sold me. I buying one.
yup
I bought the exact same model, its great you wont be disapointed
Did you ever get one?
GRMGR1 I bought a Mossberg 500 Persuader with a light in the forend. I'm happy with it. :)
GRMGR1 toygun
Hey Hickok,Holy Crap,I love the way a shot gun moves what ever your shooting at,like the soft drinks flying through the air.
hickok45 why do you always have to shoot my "Clay Cousins" ?
Re-watching this one, really enjoyed it. I've had my 590 (blue/ghost) since 1994.
love your range, don't stop.
@300Winner, It actually broke the pedestals off two of the pigs. I took them to a welder this morning for repair.
I personally would rather have a good ol' Mossberg 590A1 and may I be the first American on this video to say greetings Russian! I really do enjoy talking to people from your country.
I own tons of different guns, including class 3 toys. There’s something about my 2 14” 590a1 SBS’s (a shockwave now too hahaha)that put a big smile on my face when I shoot um. I rarely shoot field loads. #4 buck, #1 buck, 00 buck and slugs are more my speed.
If you don't want the recoil get an air gun haha
Mic drop
Knowledge is a rare thing! You don't inhale a cigar. There, you learned something today. :-)
You make a shotgun look like an extremely versatile and powerful tool for most any application that one would normally face, unless shots over 240 yards are required! : from your other video. Ha! Just a fantastic demonstration of shotgunning.
Hickok your videos are without a doubt my favorite shooting videos online. Very unassuming, while informative, and entertaining to boot. Thanks for all you do in the shooting community.
@lakers33uivj, We have started enabling the "skippable" ads after the first week or so. That's where all the best ads are going, it appears, or rather where the ammo money is going. :-)
man dont you just love the sound of those shells when there being loaded...music to my ears
Imagine a thousand years from now, some archaeologists on Hickok's property trying to figure out what the hell happened there. "Obviously, this was the site of the greatest battle in human history. The people on this side of the hill appeared to have won."
@PETE1760 Hickok has the 590A1, there isn't a heat shield on the market that will fit it due to the stronger barrel. I have a 590A1 myself and just like Hickok said, heat is never a problem. You pump round after round and it'll only be warm. Such a fantastic weapon.
"I shouldn't do this...but I just can't resist" Great quote, applies to almost every day of my life : )
LOL no spread on a slug at this distance either. Love the humor.
Happy Spring! It's videos like this that put a huge smile on my face. Good times, thank you sir.
@modelearthj, You don't have to watch many of our recent videos to get the story.
Yeah, at least the warriors on THIS side of the hill got off the most shots. The bewildering part will be figuring out what armed force in what specific period of time would be carrying flintlocks, cap&ball revolvers, AR15s, AK47s, Mosin Nagants and Mausers! :-)
@wmbedsole, It's the same one that fits on the AR15.
I've owned a Maverick 88 for 9 years and really enjoy shooting it. Its never jammmed and cycles easily for $200 its been money well spent.
@OneTimeUser247, Just a gun guy, but I'm always "hunting" for fun targets and great ammo prices. :-)
The only thing you left out is that in a pinch, a pump (or semi) with a proper stock on it is a good weapon at close range if you run out of ammo. I like the option of a bayonet stud, but I can't really see myself using it, but I can utilize a buttstroke
HeavyMental1000 I have one of those forend straps on mine and it make the bayonet feel a little more comfortable.
Hickok, I love your shotgun videos. Seeing 2 liters explode is awesome but your reaction to them is always the best. As long as you keep making videos, I'll keep watching them.
Now here's a guy that doesn't need those "Tactical Ghost Rings". Back in the day we called them Peep sights but it doesn't sound so cool, after all Peeps are those nasty thing's we eat around Easter time. Just more proof that you don't always need the bells and whistles. Thanks Hickok45 for schooling the youngsters!
You know what else is rare a good video about the accuracy and range of these guns rather than just the fact that they make fruit and bottles of liquid explode. Thanks for that!
The 12 gauge pump action shotgun is the greatest firearm ever devised. R.I.P GUNNER!
Love me some great coffee and a new Hickok45 video! I'm actually in the market for a new shotty - great vid!
I missed GUNNER... I hope you get another pup soon. I want a Mossburg 590 now... thanks Greg.
That range looks like a lot of fun. I have a 590 A1 with ghost ring sites, it's a great shotgun. I couldn't resist picking up a bayonet for it. I consider it my no miss aiming system.
Oh, I also love how you have the ammo in cigar boxes. It just screams class.
every shot is a yap of gunner from heaven.a great tribute to a great dog with a great shotgun
LIfe is Pretty Good today. Even better now that I have seen a new Hickok video. We will all miss Gunner. Thanks again Hickok.
DG
NIce vid , I always been an 870 guy as well, until a buddy of mine got me onto Mossberg, I picked up a 935 semi auto and man I love this gun. Even my truthfull Remington father of mine likes the Mossberg.
Glad you are feeling yourself again Mr. Hickok, melons and all.
I love it! "if you shoot at slug at this distance you wont get much of a spread" LOL!!
Good fun...I have spent many an hour cycling shells of all sizes through my mossberg 500. Shotguns are hard to beat from a versatility standpoint.
i like how instead of putting ''part'' two he puts ''chapter two'', it shows he has character it shows he had class
Gunner, rest in peace buddy! Hickok, there's nothing like sliding some slugs down the barrel of a 12 gauge to relieve some stress. I hope all of you are well and Gunner will be missed by this gun nut! I felt the first watermelon to be a very fine farewell!
I love my 590A1 with an 18.5" Barrel, Rifle Sights and 2-round Mag Extension. It's One SWEET Shotgun!
My sympathies regarding Gunner. He was a lovely dog, and I enjoyed seeing him in your videos. He was a wonderful boy, and so full of life and love.
When I retire, I am going to become a lead farmer and farm the rich fertile soils behind hickock45's shooting range...oh, if the hills could talk! Another awesome video from the old school gun slinger himself.
Fantastic demonstration!, I love shooting shotguns here in Oz (we can't get pump's but break open double barrels are as much fun)
Great to see you back. I just love mossbergs!
I love my 590 A1. Accurate, smooth, and built like a brick house. So much fun.
Hey Hickok, was fantastic to see your Ithaca chapter 2 the other day. It would be great to see a 590 chapter 3 some time (it's been such a long time).
Its crazy how accurate you are with slugs.
I've been waiting so long for a chapter 2.!
I've watched chapter 1 about 20 times.
Brilliant!
I had a 590 for years and loved it.
I love seeing those 2 liters fly!!!
Got a 590 Marinecote. Love the Mossie! I've never felt comfortable with our departments trigger guard botton safety and much prefer the Mossie safety. Great video.
So sad to here about gunner but I am really happy to see you back doing what you love.
I'm sorry for your lost. Thanks for the video.
Been suffering under a lot of myths myself, that's why I keep tuning in.
Those 1-ounce slugs really deliver the goods on those soda bottles but they just don't seem to have enough spread at living room distances, haha.
Glad to see ol' Hickok having some fun again.
When I saw this video pop up on my Subscriptions, I was so happy. I've been waiting for a Chapter 2, since you came out with the first one. I have a Mossberg 590, and I love shooting it.
Gunner had a happy life with you. This video only helped me on a stormy day to have a better day. Our family is still pulling for your family.
the sound of shell casings under his feet epic
"for some of our newer viewers, the slug doesn't get much spread either" love it, LoL!
i think this is the most fun you had i many of your recent videos
