      You mean Solar panel?
      Pros - free energy and you don’t need to charge manually,
      no down time whilst charging
      Cameras sensitivity can be set higher and record longer as battery won’t die out.
      Cons - if it’s not setup correctly the battery will over charge.
      If the solar panel strips working for whatever reason it can make the camera go offline ( had this with one camera that I ended up having to leather on battery mode rather than dollar mode as a result)
      Unsightly solar panel on show

    We recently bought these cameras but didn't install for awhile, I did charge them after purchase. Then I purchased the black generic solar charger for our front camera. Husband has installed many solar lights with motion detection, like currently eleven with 3 to be installed (some high powered some not), so he has gained experience in this. He said the black solar was quick and easy to install, a real plus for a busy man.
    Since I run the security cams, these and eight other wired ones, I did the set up for the solar charging on the one camera. At first I set up the camera to run on the solar but noticed a small draining of the camera battery. Then I changed it to run on battery. Since that change in settings the battery has stayed fully charged, no noticeable drop at all.
    Now the second camera was fully charged back at the later part of June when they arrived and is now drained by two bars slightly over a month later. When I saw how well the solar panel charged the front camera I ordered another solar charger ,(white one) which became lost, reordered a back one. The white one finally showed up, the black to be here Friday. An extra is OK as I will be buying another camera soon for my garden/pool area.
    My husband decided that all our cameras needed to be weather protected so they are under cover of the house, one wired camera in a tree he built a cover for. I found your review to be quite helpful. We often have harsh winters so time will tell how these cameras fair in our average 25°-35°f winter temperatures, we do drop to minus Temps but that is just sometimes.

    In a previous video you stated you installed your Eufycam from your bedroom window. I may need to do the same. How easy was that to do?

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  3 года назад +2

      Quite easy, install the screw in mount (I don’t trust the magnet mount outside) and then just rotate onto the thread.
      It’s only 2 screws that you use for the mount and I used a small drill to drill the plastic of my window sills as a pilot hole and then used an electric drill on the lowest torque setting to secure the mount.
      Covers my whole driveway but only slight issue is that the angle is a little high but I have other cameras around my house so whoever comes onto my property will be captured from multiple angles

      3w will only be a trickle charge so I find when there’s no activations the camera charged back up to around 80% but when in use it’ll hover around 70% because it can’t charge the camera back up fast enough despite us having some pretty decent weather lately.

    My solar panel never shows charging. Trying to charge a Solocam L40/E220 (they have been discontinued even though I just bought it last year). Is there a better panel that will actually charge?

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  Месяц назад

      Any panel will work as long as the connection is the same for the camera you’re using.
      These panels charge at a very low wattage therefore it’s intended to constantly top up rather than straight up charge as some 3rd party panels could do.

    Sorry Mate, you present very well. The first 5 minutes are unrelated (no useful)... also, if you don't know the reason of why it's bad (it could be your camera), this video wasn't helpful at all. Perhaps you can update with what generic you used. But to do a video in between the unboxing and then a follow up without any resolution.. you shouldn't say BAD NEWS in your title. Not helpful to anybody. I think you speak well on camera, but hopefully you'll update when you have information worthy of watching... not a 14 minute video that tells us nothing

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  3 года назад +2

      If you’d done a quick search on my channel before writing your comment you would’ve had the answers to all the questions you posted🤦🏽‍♂️
      It is bad news as the panel didn’t work, what else would you call that?
      And I’ve provided lots of updates in the past and also since with regards to the cameras, If 2 panels fail to charge 2 different cameras then how can it be the cameras?
      This channel and these videos are to give perspective to people looking to purchase the tech I review, these heads up videos are to highlight issues for the manufacturers (who I speak to regularly with issues) as well as individuals looking to purchase, therefore that requires context which to many people are happy to overlook and then look a fool afterwards.
      It’s always the people who complain about the length of videos who end up leaving comments like yours when the information is there for you.

      Sorry Mate... I think my message came off wrong. My apologies if comments were perceived to be inappropriate. You are an excellent presenter and speak well and with knowledge. In fact, I did subscribe to your channel and will continue to watch. I suppose I was thrown off by the title that said BAD NEWS! but it wasn't addressed with more specifics. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to review many of your videos to get more information on the actual issue, resolution or alternatives. Please keep posting and I'll keep watching.

      Slower charge rate is always better for the battery as it generates less heat.
      Think about a summers day when the camera is in direct sunlight so it’s already hot and then you leave it constantly charging as well, it would get extremely hot which in turn will deteriorate the battery cells much faster so if you did ever take it off the charge it wouldn’t last anywhere near as long but more importantly even when plugged in it may become defective if the main battery itself is damaged.

  • @dan1ukdsjn

    Very insightful video, just set up my EufyCam 2 Pro with the Eufy solar panel... it’s not far above my boiler flue and if you’re having issues with corrosion on the charging port then I think it’ll be wise to apply some RTV around the charging port of my camera and it’s gasket just to be safe 👍🏼

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  3 года назад +1

      The reason I mention this in my videos isn’t for my personal unit, the point I’m making is that a mass produced product shouldn’t have this type of defect which is due to the materials used.
      I could fix my camera using hot glue or many other methods however this shouldn’t be necessary for the camera mounted on battery power without anything plugged in (as the rubber gasket isn’t sufficient on all cameras).
      I believe the corrosion on my unit came from water ingress due to the failed gasket but if you have a solar panel plugged in then it should atleast seal against water ingress leading to that.
      I did manage to get mine working again by cleaning the connections repeatedly with electrical cleaner meant for motherboards and a fine nylon brush but this isn’t something we should have to deal with really.

    You are wrong.While there is no indication that the camera is not charging while in solar mode, it is in fact charging. • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  2 года назад +2

      You’ve missed the point, eufy themselves confirmed that they want to have the battery charging animation when in solar mode but still haven’t pushed that firmware update.
      The point being any solar panel should have some sort of confirmation that it’s sending charge and as the unit doesn’t have a light it should be done in the app. I had 2 faulty units before one finally worked for me so I definitely wouldn’t want to chance it and leave it connected assuming it’s charging only to find it’s a dud solar panel.

    -hotglue- / *silicone

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  3 года назад

      ?
      If you use silicone it’ll be incredibly difficult to remove (which you will have to do to reset the camera when it stops responding as they seem to do) and will involve a lot of cleanup where as the hot glue can simply be reheated and it’ll remove and then just reheat or add some more to seal again.
      Also the issue with 3rd party panels is that they don’t fit “snug” so you need the cable to be pressed in, by using glue when it sets it’ll hold the cable but if you use silicone the natural flex will allow the cable to come out just a little and that’ll be enough for it not to be charging.
      But that’s just my suggestion, you do you.

    • @ScottIsMyName
      @ScottIsMyName 3 года назад

      @@MATechRUclips and hot glue would not be difficult to remove? Also hot glue is not rated for outdoor use, so it will degrade and allow infiltration.
