Fun fact: the line "Hufflepuffs are particularly good finders." Has made its way into the fandom so much that people geniunly dont remember that it came from AVPM and NOT JKR. The amount of people i know that are convinced its actually canon is actually so funny.

This JUST happened to me watching this video, haha! Diggory stood up and said this line, and I turned to my partner and said, "I legit forgot that saying was from AVPM" It's just so integrated into our life. (About as much as "I'm afraid of ghosts, and sheets with holes in them... And regular sheets" which is about a DIFFERENT Hufflepuff)

If you hear laughing at odd times it’s because the audience are seeing something on stage that is off camera, particularly the opening number when they see their friends in costume for the first time. They only put it on RUclips to share amongst themselves and never imagined it would blow up like it did. So many iconic lines, and every depiction is so over-the-top yet somehow highly accurate, the satire is just 👏👏👏 So glad you got to see it, thank you!! ☺️

Not only that: these were Theatre Majors. With the exception of 2 of the cast members, they were all students who had only performed in straight plays, mostly serious stuff like Shakespeare and Chekhov. And here they are, dressed up as Harry Potter characters, singing and dancing silly songs. The whole concept is just plain silly and hilarious in and of itself for the audience. They aren't watching this as a musical theatre audience. They are watching their friends be silly. They're not thinking "Wow, that guy playing Voldemort is doing a pretty good job". They're thinking "That's Joe Walker, our jock friend who is an aspiring, serious actor, tapdancing and singing in a cape while playing Voldemort!" I don't think anyone watching this will ever grasp how hilarious this show was for the people in the audience.

I find it absolutely amazing that a group of drama students made this for their friends and family, put it on youtube so that the actors can watch their acting and it blew so much they started a production company, made 2 more Harry Potter musicals and then other musicals. All music and lyrics done by themselves and words and phrases now used across fandom. 'Quirellmort' is absolutely fantastic in this one, the friendship and beginning of the trio are fabulous in the second, (though Lupin and Umbridge still give me nightmares) and 'Everything ends' from the third one is one of the best songs ever I think.
It did come out before the last movies with the dialog between Dumbledore and Harry Potter as well as the scene between Molly and Bellatrix is closer to the books than to the movies maybe because of that (all three musicals are actually full of funny little tidbits from the books.
Absolutely love these musicals ever since I first found them on youtube and almost choked from hysterically laughing every 2 minutes. So glad you reacted to them! Could not believe it when it popped up!

The next one (A very potter sequel) includes a lot of stuff from Prisoner of Azkaban, Philosopher Stone and Order of the Phoenix, and the last one (A very potter senior year) is based a lot on Chamber of Secrets, with elements from Half Blood Prince. So kudos to the one who edited it all together and made the video and sound quality more HD. Starkid originally posted the musical on youtube to show their friends and family and they did not expect other people would watch it and enjoy it. Since then Starkid still makes musicals, some parodies, some original, and their quality just keeps getting better.

Love that you guys are reacting to this, takes me back to my middle school days. My friends and I were the annoying kids who sang Goin Back to Hogwarts in the middle of math class. Here's a few fun facts from when I was a serious Starkid fan:
    - The original title was A Harry Potter Musical but they changed it last minute because they were afraid of getting sued.
    - They only posted this on RUclips for family and friends to be able to see and never expected it to blow up like it did
    - That is indeed Darren Criss aka Blaine from Glee playing Harry. He also wrote the songs Goin back to hogwarts, Granger Danger, Hey Dragon, Harry, and Not Alone
    - Not Alone was written by Darren for a song writing contest when he was studying abroad in Italy and missing his friends and he let them use it for this musical
    - The song 'Harry' that Ginny sings was originally called 'Sami' and Darren wrote it for a web show some of the Starkid cast did called Little White Lies (I think it's still on youtube), another song they just repurposed
    - Starkid is a huge fan of Avatar the Last Airbender and there's a number of references and lines straight from the show such as: Ginny's line to Harry about them kissing and how she thought they were going to be together is the same line Aang says to Katara during the Ember Island Players episode. Voldemort's speech about Harry's parents being weak is almost exactly what Ozai said to Aang about the airbenders during their final battle. When Dumbledore is trying to convince Malfoy not to kill him, he says a line similar to what Iroh says to Zuko during the Lake Laogai episode.
    - The blue headband Ron wears is to keep his wig in place
    - Joe walker who played Voldemort had a cold during the first performance and had to then keep up the raspy voice for the following nights
    - Ron constantly eating was added to his character due to the actor, Joey Richter, always bringing food to rehearsal, and the Chinese takeout he has in the first scene was his dinner for that night
    - The giant chocolate bar was a gift to Matt and Nick Lane (the main creators behind the show) by their parents and they ended up giving it to Joey who used it in the show
    - The song Voldemort is Going Down was only put into the show the day before opening night and the cast had to learn it during dress rehearsal (Bonnie, who played Hermione, did a behind the scenes video diary that is hopefully still on youtube that shows them gathered around the piano learning the song)
Excited to see you guys react to more Starkid!!
Edit: Starkid also loves Disney, Darren Criss used to post covers of Disney songs on youtube. Some good Disney lines they used "You came back? I came home"(Tarzan), "How many times do I have kill you boy?"(Aladdin). That's all I caught this watch through but I'm sure there's more

I'm so glad to see y'all laughing so much at this one. Starkid's humor is iconic and is an essential part of their musicals. You guys would love all of these probably.

Brian Rosenthal (Prof Quirrell) was my childhood neighbor. I graduated with his brother. And I remember how everyone was freaking out because we loved Harry Potter. And then Darren was on glee shortly after this.
I remember Brian's brother telling me on the bus to school one day about how their sister saw Dan Radcliffe live when he was performing Equus. And that Brian came to watch our musical one year, since this was his college group. And the girls were freaking out that Darren MIGHT come. He never showed up lol But Harry Potter was extra popular at my highschool for a while cuz of this (and Potter puppet pals).
    Love this show! lol

Guys, I know you probably got a lot on your plate as far as content to react to. But if you give more STARKID content some shine on your channel, you WILL NOT be disappointed! A bunch of musicals in their catalogue! There's one about Disney's Aladdin, one about Batman, there's sci-fi horror musicals, some holiday themed productions, YOU WILL NEVER BE BORED! There's also a related play produtcion company called The Tin Can Bros. that have their own entire catalogue (with one of their more popular plays being a take on Scooby-Doo) all with familiar STARKID faces in the mix!! Please, PLEASE just look into it at the very least!

So slightly buzzkill of a story, but I first saw this my senior year of college, and it was the first thing to make me laugh out loud after my mom died a few months before. It's subtle in a lot of scenes, but many lines in this show are taken from Avatar. When Ginny says to Harry "We kissed at the Yuleball and I thought we were going to be together but we're not" is Aang's "We kissed at the invasion..." scene in Ember Island Players. Voldemort telling Harry that his parents didn't deserve to live in his world is the same line that Ozai says to Aang about the Airbenders. Dumbledore tells Malfoy to "look inside himself and decide what it is he truly wants" same as Iroh tells Zuko. There are many other examples, as Avatar fans I thought you might get a kick out of it!

FUN FACTS: So, yes, you recognised Darren Criss (Harry Potter) from "Glee", he got cast in Glee later as this is his last year in University (Michigan), he's now in different shows on TV and Broadway and even replaced Daniel Radcliffe in a Broadway Show! Behind them, with the musicians, there is Carlos Valdes who plays Cisco Ramon in the Flash TV series (he's the bass player on the right, next to the pianist), he was in the original Starkid team...
Joey Richter (Ron Weasley) is now married to the Lauren Lopez (Draco Malfoy) and other couples were formed in this team later, if you watch the other Harry Potter related show by them.
Today, the Starkids are touring around the globe with all the songs from their different musicals!
PLEASE watch the other two Harry Potter Musicals by Starkid: "A very Potter Sequel" and "A very Potter Senior Year" where you might recognise someone ;) but no spoilers! They are also TOTALLY AWESOME!

I read somewhere that the idea that Draco and Ron were both in love with Hermione was the catalyst to this whole musical being created. I think "Granger Danger" (song that Ron and Draco sang together) was the first song they wrote for the show.

    • @yeshevishman
      @yeshevishman Год назад +3

Yes. They have stated it numerous times that this show came about because they saw Malfoy as bullying Hermione because he was in love with her. They used to joke about "being in danger of falling in love with Granger". Darren wrote the song and they performed it for their friends a few years before this. (Sadly, there is no video of that performance.). From that, this show was born
