Another funfact. Everyone says that dylan saunders looks like Sean Astin (Samwise from LOTR). And starkid was at a convention that Sean was at and Dylan couldnt come to the panel. So Sean sat in for Dylan and just pretended to be him even tho he had no idea what he was talking about. Good fun.
Holy musical batman and twisted both sort of live in a bridge between "old school" and "new school" starkid. They are good fun, and not all of it has aged well but slightly higher quality than their early stuff.
Apparently Sweet Tooth is an actual Batman villain from some old tv show. Also I believe Jeff used to talk in candy puns a lot backstage so he could remember what candys where in which pocket
Not sure if you found the reasoning for Joker by now, but the issue I believe was that it's difficult to make a PARODY of Joker, since he's so unhinged already and with their style of humor they'd just make... the usual Joker? Which would be tricky with the copyright counting on the Parody reasoning. So they opted to make their own main villain instead.
@unclewiley1986 not the way sk did him though, they tried to make new villain with the silliest theme they could think of and then later found out there was a very old batman villain with the same name (though quite different from this one of course). The Langs talked about that in some of the Kickstarter streams.
If you want something suitable for the holidays, there is VHS Christmas Carol. They also did a "newer" version called VHS Christmas Carols (some cast changes, 2 more stories, more songs, and some added or altered details), but it is only available for a limited time with no set date that they may remove it. It could be fun to maybe stream and watch both, then compare or something. The music and references give the 80s vibes, so that is fun. Just a thought. By the way, I also suggest Firebringer as a good show to watch. It doesn't usually seem to get much love. That one is female-forward and, personally, I think is slightly underrated
I’m pretty sure Brian Holden (Superman) was also a writer on many projects, particularly the early ones (the Potter shows in particular? I’ll check later). I don’t think people have mentioned him in comments yet somehow.
I don't have a list, but I'm sure you could get someone to let you know which of the stories are relevant for Nightmare Time. That way you wouldn't have to watch all of NT but could still get all the references and important lore. Also, LOVE Holy Musical B@man, very happy to see you react to it!
just to clear things up about the actor playing B@man, he did NOT leave Starkid because of Trump winning lol. people were getting it wrong in the chat. he didn't /fully/ leave, for one. secondly, he "left" because he decided to go down a different career path and not really do musicals for the foreseeable future. he is still good friends with them and has recently joined them to perform a few live concert shows with some of the other cast and took part in the big Starkid anniversary concert a couple years back (after covid). it had NOTHING to do with Trump. Team Starkid wasn't just a job for him, it was getting to do these musicals with his best friends that he's had since college. he wouldn't leave over something like that. ( he now works as a Senior Experience Strategist at RAPP )
1:00:39 absolutely. My favorite song of the show and one of my all time favorite Starkid songs. I’d recommend doing the Black Friday song rankings, keep reacting to other Starkid shows while watching nightmare time on your own time, then doing nerdy prudes once you’ve finished NMT.
They were actually allowed to use the joker, same as all the others, because they weren't selling tickets to the show and weren't making money off it, so copyright wasn't an issue. The Langs killed the joker off because their approach to writing characters was to put a twist on them, and their idea for the joker was to make him unfunny, and then they said "about the least funny thing you could do to a character is to make them unfunny", and replaced him with someone they could easily write jokes for, and who was as ridiculous as possible (which is why they thought it was so funny that there was already a sweet tooth in the batman lore) TLDR; parodying the joker is hard in a comedy show
Matt Lang said in a Cinderella's Castle livestream that he woke up from a dead sleep because he dreamed the line "Calendar Man, your days are numbered" and immediately called Nick to tell him it or something and I think that's so funny
44:59 Do rich people chuck out their clothes and buy new ones? I can't speak for all rich people, but there was a girl I knew who would buy mega expensive clothing, wear it once or not at all and donate it all to my family since we were really poor. Either that or straight in the bin. So, at least *some* rich people do in fact do that... Edit: I don't mean mega expensive like an $80 dollar dress expensive, I mean $1200 dress, tags still on, thrown out like trash.
BEFORE NERDY PRUDES you’ll need to watch Nightmare Time, otherwise you will be a bit confused on some major parts of the show. Plus the characters leading the show are first introduced in Nightmare Time
I will possibly watch them in my own time. If I don't get round to it though, one of my mods has made me a google doc with all the relevant info from nightmare time on
I don’t think this is true, personally. I didn’t watch NT before NPMD and I was fine, no confusion. I technically still haven’t seen most of NT actually, and I can appreciate NPMD just fine. I just didn’t pick up on a handful of small references on my first watch.
Ehh ur kinda reading and talking to chat over too much dialogue actually i might haveta skip this xD im in 20 mins in and youve missed like most of the earliest jokes
@@FraserOliver I’m sure it will get better as you get used to streaming. One thing that is worth working on is staying paused while talking to chat and going back 5-10 seconds when resuming. It did seem like you might have missed quite a few jokes because you were focusing on chat.

Of course Sean would! He is the best.
Thank you for properly appreciating "does he want fruit or blood?" So many people seem to miss that live and it absolutely kills me every time.
An incredible line!

I got to see this show live so it'll always hold a special place in my heart
One time the starkid Band "Jim and the Povolos" played in my home town and I got a picture with jeff and his trumpet.
52:18 is one of my favorite ''out of context'' Starkid moments LOL. Fun stream btw. 🙃
Glad you enjoyed it!

Literally everyone and their lesbian moms love firebringer. hella overrated

58:00 now that Winnie the Pooh is out of copyright, theres two horror films on prime video called Winnie the Pooh: blood and honey
i’m SO excited for you to watch the potter shows
I genuinely can't wait!
I love how the vibe of this show is What if christian bale's batman were in the adam west universe

Just marathon thru nightmare time personally on your own time. We dont need a reaction. I think your cheatsheet is fine. No worries.

An outrage!
Part 2! Pleeeeease! :D
The most important Nightmare Time story is Abstinence Camp, if you watch any NT before Nerdy Prudes Must Die, it should be that one.
You should watch both Dylan does a better scrooge the 45 minute one but I like the longer versions writing better.
Back in the day RUclips had upload lengths capped for non-verfied users,
And verification took forever apparently.

@ I also didn’t watch NT first but with the information from it, I got like a different level of interest from NPMD with the the new context

I'm sorry you feel this way, this was the first live stream I've done. Trying to figure out the balance 😃

Sad you aren't gonna be watching Nightmare Time : /
I'll definitely be watching it, just not on here unfortunately
HMB is such a fun show, despite the racism in it. I just cringe and pretend I do not see it.
