Lawyer here. Just wanted you to know there is at least one watching along with you. Loving the commentary so far. This is one of my favorite shows. Listening to the cast recording got me through studying for my LSAT exam and the touring production came into town right as I was finishing my first year of law school so I got to see it live as an end of school year treat.

This is my absolute favorite musical couple as well semicolon they have the greatest on stage chemistry! Oh, for the love of...... Okay, I'm on speech to text, obviously I meant an actual semicolon there. XD

There is a lovely interview floating around somewhere about how this was the first time someone reached out to him specifically a out being the leading man role and how it really helped him be more confident and led to him being able to do the sexy big leading characters he does now. These songs were usually based on real songs by real bands. Just different enough to avoid copyright problems. Horrible Histories was comedy sketches about history with accurate facts.

Remember, that Black Friday and NPMD exist on opposite sides of the pandemic. A lot of Starkid took that break to take voice lessons and stuff- a Broadway tour was the route for one of them. They've all improved immensely over the span of those ~4 years. But, also I think that this role was fairly comfortably within Joey's range from past shows- Though he has ages a decade and a half. His role as "Bug" on Starship Ranger is around this range- and you can hear that his voice isn't really breaking as he sings, only on the higher notes

Joey’s my favorite Starkid and he’s an OG Starkid which is even better cuz he’s had tons of roles in their shows. I think the only shows he wasn’t in are Twisted and Holy Musical Batman if I’m not mistaken. Can’t wait to see you react to more of NPMD!

Disappointing that your friend gave you all of the Nightmare Time spoilers. That's the stuff I was most excited to see. But oh well, hopefully you enjoy this musical.

just to clear things up about the actor playing B@man, he did NOT leave Starkid because of Trump winning lol. people were getting it wrong in the chat. he didn't /fully/ leave, for one. secondly, he "left" because he decided to go down a different career path and not really do musicals for the foreseeable future. he is still good friends with them and has recently joined them to perform a few live concert shows with some of the other cast and took part in the big Starkid anniversary concert a couple years back (after covid). it had NOTHING to do with Trump. Team Starkid wasn't just a job for him, it was getting to do these musicals with his best friends that he's had since college. he wouldn't leave over something like that. ( he now works as a Senior Experience Strategist at RAPP )

If you want to hear Joey's best vocals(and best performances imo), you have to watch Spies Are Forever. It's an amazing musical made by Tin Can Bros, a sister company of Starkid founded by some Starkid members. You will see a lot of familiar faces in it and the musical is brilliant!

Kim Whalen (Becky) is personally my 'best vocalist' for Starkid (or Bryce tbh because her solos are incredible). Take Me Back is fantastic because it's just Dylan and Kim. Two incredible singers and performers in a character duet.

Joey and Lauren are both founding members. They have also been in the most amount of starkid projects by the numbers, sometimes acting in 2 different shows simultaneously or back to back. They have an insane body of work and a wealth of diverse characters and singing styles across all of starkid. They are so talented and are the backbone of starkid imo. Also they are together! Its super cute!

However many parts it has to be I just am thankful you're watching it and posting for us to enjoy with you!

If you have time for a single Nightmare Time story, I recommend watching Abstinence Camp (Nightmare Time 2, Episode 2). It'll help you get to know Peter, Steph, and Grace

Joey’s vocal performance has come a long way for sure! Comparing this to the very beginning of StarKid, where his voice sounded maybe a bit unsure in A Very Potter Musical or Me and My Dick, it’s night and day! (Maybe already a fair warning in advance: the earlier musicals are somewhat rough around the edges in regards to the video and audio quality, all shows are fully subtitled however)

Here's some answers to some of the questions you had! : The Hatchetfield Trilogy (Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday, Nerdy Prudes), Nightmare Time (The series created during the pandemic) and Workin Boys (short film) are all more "cosmic horror" based, whereas the rest of the Starkid musicals are more on the comedy side (although IDK about Cinderellas Castle as I haven't seen it yet). The Hatchetfield shows are all based in the same town, but, as far as I know, there's never been any clarification about whether they're in the same timeline or not. But as you've probably realised you can watch pretty much anything in the hatchetfield series without having seen the other things, although, especially in Nerdy prudes, they do have cameos from other characters and make references to lines from earlier shows. Joey's debut was in the very first starkid musical, A Very Potter Musical, as Ron Weasley! On the soundtrack, both sections of literal monster are combined into one song! (with all the dialogue in the middle missing of course)
