Lucius Malfoy doing ballet all the time fits his character TOO well
Honestly when I watch the Harry Potter films I'm always disappointed that he doesn't do any ballet
I 1000% believe Lucius and/or Sirius did ballet
I believe he’s supposed to be based off of Jareth from “Labyrinth”
@@SailorDoom21 How did you make this better???!!
They have a Third part named "A very Potter Senior Year". You must watch too, they made it on the Comic Con!!
Also idk if anyones shared already but the headband was because Rons wig kept slipping so they needed a way to secure it throughout the show 😄
His wig was slipping because he had a shaved head from a different show haha!
He was wearing it throughout the first play so I thought it was cute to have Harry give it to him :)
What is truly great about "Guys Like Potter" is that the flashback with James and Lily is almost word for word from the Order of the Phoenix book.
(From a person who has never watched the movies or read the books) It’s like I KNOW I’m not supposed to sympathize with Snape and like everything that happened to him was his own fault but every time I rewatch this musical that whole song and just the scene where snape yells sorry like I just feel so bad my heart breaks
Well if you read the books you definitely sympathize with him! You know he still did pretty bad things but you don‘t hate him
@@alenciaga21 I hate him lol. A lot of people do. Losing someone you care about isn’t an excuse to bully and abuse children. Plus he didn’t really love Lily he basically stalked her and was obsessed with her, he’s the reason she was killed which probably messes with his head but he did it to himself. He even called her a mudblood to try and look cool and for what..? You don’t do that to someone you “love” and it doesn’t give you an excuse to terrorize innocent kids
@@Jellybeansatdusk I mean I agree with everything lol. But I do still sympathize with him even though I don´t like him. And I do believe that his love for Lilly was pure. He was just a toxic person but I do believe his love to be true. Not that that is an excuse for his behaviour obviously
@@alenciaga21 oh for sure, I feel for him at times, but mostly I feel sad that he made all the wrong choices and perpetuated the cycle, which sucks, because he was a talented person with a lot of potential.
The sequel is so amazing. In terms of the music probably my favourite. Umbridge didn't age suuuper well, and that's partially JK Rowling's fault for being a TERF, because once I saw this Umbridge as a caricatur of a trans woman I can't really unsee it anymore. I know that's not at all how she was intended, but still. Through that lens it's violently uncomfortable and I do my best to forget about it when watching it back now.
I don’t think it’s at all that tho. It’s pretty common in theater to have the opposite gender playing a character. If it was in a film I could understand the sensitivity, but because u see this a lot in theater with both women and men, I just went with it
@@whitenoisereacts I know, I know. As I said, not at all the intention. I know it's a thing in theater, both for jokes and just out of necessity, to have a mismatch between the actor's and the character's gender.
It just accidentally hits a lot of really unfotunate tropes, that's all. Her predator-y nature, her roaring out "I am woman!", her issues with her appearance, the only man who's attracted to her being gay, etc. Add to that the association of the way JK Rowling apparently thinks about trans women, and it's just - it's a little unfortunate.
Just don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to cancel the starkid people here, I love them all and I 100% believe they only ever had good intentions in all of their writing
@@whitenoisereacts the problem is they had a male actor play a woman character as a joke, and almost everything with umbridge rests on it.
Lucius, Umbridge, Draco
my favorite characters in this series
although everyone is hilarious and such a good actor so it's not a super huge bias
"I'M IN A RAGE" pretty much sums up book Harry.
To be fair that was me as a teen too 😂😂
Book 5 in particular lol
Which is funny because i always tbought this was reference to Movie 3 when hes like "Im gonna kill him!!"
I mean, tbf, he’s a teenager with trauma that keeps getting thrown into life-threatening situations over and over because he has a hero complex and feels like he has to save everyone even though no one should have a responsibility like that thrown onto them. Let alone a twelve-year-old kid
Lauren's Draco voice is so iconic it honestly twigs me out when i hear her speak normally because i forget she's not actually British
I know right?? Hearing her do a similar voice in “Black Friday” like triggered a potent nostalgia in me it really took me a second
@@SailorDoom21 Especially with the blonde wig there were a couple times where I saw Draco instead of Linda. XD
nobody says "candy lady" quite like lauren
You are 100% right about Dylan Saunders (Dumbledore)- his singing voice and acting are top tier of the entire Starkid cast. Kick It Up A Notch (from their musical Starship) is probably my favorite Starkid song and he sings it.
My personal favourite is him in Twisted, like the emotion in that song is unmatched imo. Kick it up a Notch is a really close second tho
@@bellac6311 Twisted is definitely Dylan's best work to date. Second, for me, has to be Black Friday. Dylan's songs in that as Tom are just next level good. "If I Fail You" is my favorite song of the show.
Also Dylan singing the intro to Holy Musical B@tman! Is one of the main reasons that song is as good as it is!
@@bellac6311 I like his voice in Happy Ending from Twisted. Soooo good.
@@K5to9X Happy ending as well as the climax in the song Twisted are just chefs kiss
I love that this is basically the plot of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with none of the plotholes. And this was made long before Cursed Child!
I have flashbacks to Holy Musical B@man and The Lego Batman Movie and Batman vs. Superman...
Fun Fact: The Original Draft of AVPS was very close to The Cursed Child. However, Matt and Nick Lang, upon a full read through, decided that it was too Fan-Ficcy, threw it out, and re-wrote it into the AVPS we have today.
@@ForeverDegenerate And I prefer it so much! (Also the ending scene in AVPSY: for me his name will always be Albus Severus Scarfy Potter)
@@franziskasanders3943 They didn't use Severus in AVPSY. The replaced it with Scarfy.

Never over how that opening song just ramps up the energy right away. really impressive for such a young group.
Well Darren DID say that AJ Holmes is practically a Virtuoso.
I never realized you guys didn't know you were watching emmy winner Darren Criss as Harry Potter!!!
The Mirror of Erised effect is achieved by using a type of woven material called a skrim. When lit only from the front, the material is opaque, but when it's lit from the back, it's translucent, giving everything behind it a dreamy look. It's an old-school theatrical special effect.
It’s pretty awesome
@@whitenoisereacts No, it's totally awesome 😂
No it’s FREAKING AWESOME
I will ALWAYS be bemused and dazzled by theater, regardless if I know the name of the God in the machine. And my wife HAAAAAATES it lol. She says I'm just too shiny and new for cynicism.

A heads up about the third musical if you dont already know: The third musical was performed at a Harry Potter fan convention and was initially planned as a staged reading but escalated into a performance, but they had less than 48 hours to rehearse and most still have their scripts. Darren was also busy with Glee so he got less than 5 hours rehearsal before performing and his mic wasn’t working so the audio is a bit iffy. It’s a fantastic show tho and the biggest audience they’ve ever had!
Yeah I still wish they could somehow come together to do it with a full production... but money and they any charge for tickets due to the fact they don’t own the rights to Harry Potter... but still love it so much.
@@EK_Beast You can charge tickets for a parody show, but it has to be done without using direct original content. So no actors from the original, no props from the original, no decor from the original.
You're probably thinking about DBZA or Yugioh Abridged since those are the most famous parodies of a show, but both shows dont use original drawings for 99.999% of their production. Thats why they cannot be monetized directly.
Also, the tie was apaid actor 😅
Fair warning: the 3rd one isn't a full production, i can't remember exactly what happened but they weren't able to do a complete show so they did basically a costumed reading at a convention in Chicago. The cast had about 2 days to learn it, and Darren Criss only had about 5 hours so a ton of people are still reading off scripts but Its still really funny and a great send off for the series. Just don't expect production value like this one.
No worries, I’m still excited!!
Don't forget they managed to get Evanna Lynch to join them as Luna because that's the kind of awesome she is.
And Darren's mic didn't record..
@@gecegezgini8187 Darren's mic not recording is annoying af,but the senior year finale still has awesome songs and an interesting story made up from different chunks of the books. Plus it's got characters actually writing fanfiction
Darren Criss was inbetween shooting Glee or whatever, and most of the other Starkids also had tight schedueles due to having their own conflicting commitments, it was like a miracle for them all to clear off their scheduels for those few days at LeakyCon. Only a few days before the show was when almost all of them wound up there together, a few of them coming within a day of eachother, only to learn from the producers/writers (Brolden and the Lang brothers) that they're gonna stage this production with proper acting and costumes, as opposed to the proper reading that was originally planned. It was still in Darren's mind that they're just gonna do a normal reading, sitting together onstage and reading from the script with minimal acting, props or costumes. Darren only found out that they're staging it on the day he arrived, which was a few hours before the show itself. The Starkids had only a few days to learn their scripts, some having a bit more time than others, depending on the day they arrived. Joe Walker seems to have had significantly more time than the others, despite messing up once, he is onstage without a script more than anyone else there. Darren on the other hand, had only a few hours to learn his lines, and he was practically learning it as the show went on, and he managed to nail it throughout. As an actor, he's a fucking legend. As for production value, there's not much difference between AVPSY and AVPM, the only major difference is that in AVPSY they are reading from their scripts, while full-on acting, costumed, props and all, like in AVPM.
Fun fact: Someone from the Red Vines company had a daughter that was a HUGE Starkid fan, which is why he approached Starkid with boxes of Red Vines to use as “pseudo-product placement”. After A Very Potter Sequel, Joey Richter (Ron) and Joe Walker (Voldemort/Umbridge) did a series of promotional skits on the teamRedVines RUclips channel.
The series is called “Tasty Tests”, and it’s definitely got that early Starkid charm to it.
Too bad they hated Red Vines. They preferred Twizzlers.
Yeah, Joey actually reveled that he prefer Twizlers
I love the Revientsts and their Tasty Tests! Turns out Red Vines can do a lot!
@@wildwesley9328 Red Vines: what the hell can't they do?

other reactors have posted starkid's content without copyright, so that is peculiar, especially since all of their musicals are free on youtube anyway... maybe you should split the last one into different parts? some others i've seen usually split them into parts.
Starkid usually doesn't copyright claim? Is it a claim from that weird company that tries to claim things that aren't theirs? Because they aren't affiliated with them.
@@jahnabanana that is probably the case, but yes to other suggestions, maybe split it up into parts even if it is the whole musical

@Clarissa Notini James Tolbert actually put up a video on his RUclips Channel where he, along with a few other Starkid Members, teaches the choreography to Stutter. So anyone can learn it if they want. He also has the choreography to "Deck The Halls Of Northville High" from Black Friday on there too. The choreography for that song is complicated as HELL. The last parts of Harry Freakin' Potter are just so amazing in how they flip the melody around over and over
I’ve watched this and AVPM a billion times before, I was in middle school when the first one came out and not too long after came the sequel and being in the theater program at the time it was like. Ron not being able to get the poster down wasn't planned I don't think. It was stuck and you can see them break a little but the improv "its stuck on there with magic" is SOOO FUNNY
Actually! It was on purpose! They knew they needed it for the next scene in Azkaban so they decided to do a bit where they pretended to break character and say it was "stuck with magic" to explain why it was still there. I remember nick talking about it in a livestream one time. Starkids break character/the fourth wall a lot in their comedy and it's great because you can never tell if it's real or just great acting to subvert your expectations later😂

just so you know, the third one is very different because they barely had any rehearsal time, so they have their scripts on stage
The thing about the 3rd one is they wrote it and never expected t to be performed because they graduated and moved forward. Then Leaky Con invited them to come and do a performance, so they decided to see who they could get back and the whole cast was able to come back for 3 days, so they planned to do just a reading of the 3rd musical. Then people started saying they were bringing costumes, and they realized they had a bunch in storage... and slowly they said what if we tried to perform the show? They ended up doing the show with some minor mishaps as they only had everyone for 3 days, and it was more of a read through with scripts as the whole cast had a script with them at all times due to the short amount of time to do the show. But they did an amazing job I just always wonder what it would look like had they been able to perform it in full. Also bonus while at leaky con they got the real Luna to play Luna in it for them.

StarKid have said they very much regret the whole gag with Umbridge being played by an obvious male actor after JK Rowling's transphobia, which it's now impossible not to think about whenever he's onstage.
when did they say that?
@@dysenteryworld Right after she started.
They shouldn't have to feel bad, there's obviously no malice behind it or anything to do with trans stuff at all. I mean maybe they could have scoured the state for a super jacked lady to join the cast specifically for this but that seems slightly difficult for a college theater trope not to mention unnecessary. It's Dumbledore's fault for assuming ladies can't be jacked lol. Genderbending happens in theater all the time. It's not their fault J.K made things awkward.

i would love if y'all watched Starkid's Ani! its a star wars parody and i cry laughing at the obi wan parts
I know y’all said you weren’t reacting to more Starkid after avpsy but you’ll love holy musical Batman;-;
The third one isn't a full on production... It was like a special thing they put together quickly for a convention, so they're still reading scripts and such... However, it's still great fun to watch.
But yeah, I forgot there was a Spiderman thing in this one too lol. It's been a while... Sadly the girl playing Hermione doesn't come back, except for the special anniversary thing they did recently. Meredith does a good job taking over though.
Awww...she was my favorite part!!
Also… Evanna Lynch as Luna
You should really give their musical Twisted a chance, its one of the best produced by Starkid.
