I find the square format refreshing. Your work is awesome too! Thanks so much for your presentation.

Thank you so much for your comment! Yes, the square format nowadays is odd, that makes it interesting (at least to some of us 😀)

Thanks for this video Ralf. I have his book as well and it is indeed a modern classic in my opinion. I love his work and am very inspired by it. I also enjoyed and am inspired by your Holga aircraft images. Very well done.

Thanks so much for your lovely words! I own Salgado‘s book „Genesis“ and it is much more stunning than the images on the screen, obviously. Glad, that you feel the same about his work.

Not forgotten at all, he is one of my all time favorites. Purchased his retrospective book last month

Yes I had heard of him before. I discovered his work a few years ago when a magazine published some photographs he had made in Iceland,. I subsequently obtained his Iceland book and was blown away by the beauty of the images, and it was his pictures which made me want to visit Iceland, which I have been able to do a couple of times since. I agree that his work is sadly overlooked.

Thanks for sharing your story how you relate to his pictures. Iceland is still in the top 5 of my bucket list, also partly because of Hoflehners work.
I noticed that you‘ve made a video about your Iceland trip. It is very nice 😀

This is the first time I’ve heard of Josef Hoflehner, which is a shame since he has such an excellent body of Black and White work. You did great Holga work with the planes. I too love the square format. Thanks for sharing!

Crazy how most of his pictures reminds me of the "generic" pictures you find at art prints/poster stores. We are probably just used to see these kind of photos as cheap default background photos in stores, but in reality the images are so good that is almost universal how good they are that everyone uses them. Pretty cool

I bought the book quite a few years ago and also love it. It’s funny I picked it out of my library to look at it again recently and then come across your video! I like both the B+W and square format and congratulations on your interpretation of his airport work.

Honestly I hadn't heard of him until seeing this video. And I love his use of square format. You don't necessarily need a wide aspect ratio to capture what you want.
He's almost like a direct contrast to Saul Leiter, where Leiter used very closed and intimate spaces with lots of human subjects, Hoflehner went in the opposite direction.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, the square format is special.
Some of the landscape images of Josef Hoflehner remind me of Michael Kenna‘s work: Also square, calm and often a lot of negative space. However, I think the cityscapes are Hoflehners‘ best stuff.

Thanks you for your feedback. Yeah, the microphone sound is not where I want it to be. I already bought another one to improve that. With every episode I try do do better 😊 Glad you left a comment.

@@theBWexperiencesound is something I've struggled with! When I do voice overs, I use a condenser mike in my wardrobe.
When im doing talking heads I have a swing arm holding a mic. I use the most recent davinci resolve and it has a pretty good noise filter which might help too.
      Great video mate!!
