- Marty Knapp lives in Point Reyes Station, California where for over thirty years he has created his fine art black and white photographs. His work celebrates a fascination with light and forms he has discovered in the coastal landscape near his home. His prints, valued by collectors, reside in private and public collections world-wide. Marty is engaged, hands-on, in the entire creative process, from recording his photographs, to printing, framing, displaying and the shipping of his completed artworks. He and his wife, Jean, show his work at the Marty Knapp Photo Gallery in downtown Point Reyes Station. An extensive catalog of his photography is also available online at www.MartyKnapp.com
I remember driving by Point Reyes in my 1966 VW bug and thinking to myself, I like to retire here some day. Very nice presentation, thanks.
Poetry through your lens as well as words. This is an inspiration to me as much as anything in my 55+ years in photography. Most of that time I have been a portrait photographer, which has been a true blessing. Now, I’m retired at 72 and this is showing me a path, back to where it all started with me after seeing the view with my first introduction to a ‘real’ camera, and B&W images I saw in mag, and in a collection of Angel Adams images.
May the light that brings me joy find a way to inspire in the same way that you have done in this video.
I completely agree with what Christopher Bortle said. I have also loved doing photography for over 50 years (not as a professional, just for my pleasure) and this work inspires me deeply. For me, photography was a way of showing all the subtle beauties of what the Creator offers us, but with sensitive eyes, because not everyone can see as a photographer sees, and what I saw in this video combines everything: sensitivity and exceptional vision, happiness and perfect use of black & white and the humility of a man who knew how to transmit his pleasure by observing all the subtleties of light to the eyes of others. Without forgetting this magical and marvelous work that takes place in the darkroom, to achieve a proof, that we cannot understand if we have not spent hours in a laboratory. Thanks a lot Mr Marty Knapp.
The most absorbing story of a life of photography I have watched, period. Thank you.
This video gives me a renewed appreciation for black and white photography.
Amazing narration and photography! What an inspiration to go out there and capture the light!
Excellent. I like your search for meaning through photography reflecting emotional depth and hidden meaning. Thank you from Oslo.
Marty your images show such rare, fleeting moments in time. They evoke strong emotions due to their tremendous tonality. Thanks for sharing your images. A real pleasure to see such fine work!
Hello Marty, wonderfull photos, I also prefer black & white photography. I think this is big art. Best from Poland.
Marty, Thank you so much for the view of your photographs. I've stopped by your page several times over the past year or so and must say your work is fantastic! I'm definitely a fan!!
What beautiful, creative, passionate photography. What a lovely man!
I feel extremely lucky to have landed on this video and channel. I am blown away. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this compilation, the light sings from every image. A joy to watch!
enjoyed this video...thanks for sharing your love and passion for black and white photography! i have a camera that i converted to 720nm Infrared...I LOVE IT!
Inspiring. I've been into photography for a few years and have always been fascinated by black and white. I've sold a few prints in the past, strangely, because they were black and white.
Most photographers say that black and white doesn't sell. Now that I've retired, I would like to set up a website and sell only black and white prints. Don't need to make a living from it but I do get a buzz when someone parts with money for something I have made. Watching this has inspired me to go to the dark side completely, black and white, that is!
You have even made me consider looking at infra red at some point.
I'm in Ireland, by the way. We certainly have the weather and conditions for black and white.🙂
Thank you for this video of your stunning photography. I love black and white photography and am also obsessed by light and finding those amazing moments of beauty.
You made our world a treasure.
Dear Marty, thank you for sharing your wonderful story how become a landscape photographer. Best, Stefan
Beautiful work
Congratulations, excellent ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Mike’s passion for his profession comes through in every word. And his pictures admirably demonstrate his art. Wonderful video.
Just blew me away.. love it.
Beautiful photos and thanks to share your thoughts and journey, very inspiring.
Great and inspiring story; a hard “decision to free oneself”, produce great work; moved by the melody of “soul-strings”; what a way to experience the days…persist, do more, enjoy; you are the inspiration to others….
What a beautiful and informative video! As a photographer myself, watching this video was (for me) like.a religious experience! Having picked up my first camera around 1959, I took up photography seriously in 1967. Your video spoke to me and gave me the encouragement to continue my journey in photography.
Beautiful, beautiful work. Totally inspirational - especially for a beginner. If I could achieve half way near your standard, I’d be happy. Thank you.
Subscribed. Hope to see many more of your videos.
An inspiring journey full of beauty captured then shared. For the first time I'm pondering converting my dust binned D5lll to infrared. As stunning as Jackson Hole and the Greater Yellowstone is, after 37 years it becomes harder to get inspired from to fill the tank and roll the dice and capturing something new. Cheers Marty and Michael.
Thank you, Daryl
Thank you Mike and Marty. I enjoyed seeing the photos. Reminds me of camping trips years ago when my dad brought his 4x5 camera and made photos in the same area.
Lots of beautiful photos, Marty. Thanks.
I love this presentation and these photographs. They come from the heart.
Thanks, Roger. You're right = these do come from my heart!
@@martyknapp3319 I've missed so many photographs because I didn't have a camera that now I have a small Fuji X100S in the car all the time, an X70 for my mountain bike pack, and my XPro3 around my neck even when I go out for coffee or a walk around town. Some very incredible shots in your repertoire, you've inspired me to do a lot more B&W.
God bless you! You are doing great work; keep going, keep going…it will be better and better … thank you for the pictures and the “speech”…
Marty thank you so much for such an inspirational video. Your photographs are beautiful.
Beautiful photographs and a lovely narrative. Kudos to Michael Morrissey for putting all this together so seamlessly.

Fantastic photography. Breathtaking. I'm just curious what your thoughts are about shooting B&W with IR converted cameras. I am getting mine delivered this week and I wonder if that is something you've explored.

Simply amezing-i mean images and your thought process and your passion for the craft,i myself am into photography.ThIs video was really an inspiration and hope i will be able to follow your path and try to improve my skills.i see many videos but there are very few who talk about the most essential element in in photography and that is light and i can see that in every image. My photography teacher tells me you don't shoot an object, you must shoot 'light'.The subject or the gear don't matter.Thank you once again for wonderful images,May God bless you sir.

Love this. Will use it to help teach others in our workshops
I have two sayings I'd like to be credited for
1. You can't beat the local photographers
2. Photographers get paid only if we go to work
That was so enlightening seeing your work and hearing your thoughts thank you

Awesome images Marty, thanks for sharing your passion!
Most excellent images man! Love b/w images, Ansel Adams got me going back in 1975. Still have his books too!
I’ve been out of photography for quite some time but lately my son started shooting with my old film cameras (Hasselblad xPan and Pentax 645) so now my interest has been renovated while teaching him the art.
Again, great stuff!
Wonderful presentation.
Nice video!
Thank you .
I exhibited in Point Reyes, including some alternative processes coupled with other graphic techniques.
thank you
Hi Marty Knapp my love for B&W Is my first love of photography enjoyed your video it has inspired me thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Michael. Glad that my work has inspired you. Happy shooting!
👍
Your work is magnificent - could you spend a little time on film and processing?
Wow Michael such a selection on incredible photography and the story telling and your delivery absolutely on point I watch videos like this and can only lament at my own lack of communication and story telling abilities I like to think I can use a camera and create a pleasing acceptable image but again I look at this video and compared to you my channel is just lacking in meaning. You are seriously under subscribed mate I’ve just botched you up one more kind regards Paul
Hi Marty, your is exceptional, why you live in Ca??????????????????????????????
