This guy is on a different level. Not only did he finish a marathon, he did it with style with his crazy story telling and editing. Awesome job, time to run a marathon too! Hahaha
My Mom ran a marathon when I was a kid, and she woke up early every morning and went to run. She was busy being a mother and a night shift nurse, but she kept on going. I was talking to her recently, and she remembered seeing a quote that went something like, “A marathon isn’t 26.2miles/42km. It’s the last 26.2 miles/42km.” It was basically saying that all of the training you did was part of that marathon, it isn’t just the race, but the training too.
@@sean6925 No, look here, timestamp 34:28 - second long run, 21k, 2 hours, 5:38 min/km. (In the beginning of the video he says that "three years ago" he ran a half-marathon in 1h34.)
This is one of the first Marathon videos I watched during pandemic and this inspires me to run my first Marathon last year. Now, I am running my third Marathon… in Chicago this October.
This nearly brought me to tears. Well done, man. I ran my first marathon 10 years ago and I dedicated it to my late mother. This year I intend to run that same marathon once more. I lost my brother in 2017 and your beautiful video has inspired me to dedicate this race to him. Cheers from México!
It’s ironic he took issue with the rain. But willingly jumped in the river. Well done. I’m almost 40, have been morbidly obese and overweight for half my life, and was always in constant pain. I’ve turned that around and recently lost 70 pounds and have my first ever 5k in 2 days. For someone that had almost literally never ran more than a mile in my whole life. This gave me some motivation. Well done sir.
@@carlosballesteros3930 finished the 5k in 38 minutes and 2 weeks ago ran my first 10k in an hour and half. Thank you for asking. Have another 5k in 3 weeks and a 10k in a month. Never been more excited to actually call myself a runner.
when I was young, around 12 years old, I used to join my school running which was 2.5- 3km only then I decided to challenged myself to join the 6.5 km run when I was 13 years old, my dad trained me for 3 weeks for my little me to do that challenged tbh, I did wanted to just lay down on my bed and read my comics, but my dad forced me to train ( I was in ok condition, no injury, no nothing) when the day arrived, I ran 6.5km with my dad for me it was exhausting, but after I finished the race, without knowing it, I was in 5th placed with around 40 minutes I was surprised that I finished the race in 5th place. I thought I would be like the 20th place or so I felt so proud of myself back then, but since I had an accident when I was 15 years old, I can't run anymore after my surgery, I can walk again like normal people, but when I run it hurt so much that I can't feel my legs well technically I can run, but only in a shot period of time since then, I can only watch people run, swim, etc without trying it myself watching this video makes me miss the old days when I was young who would run around everytime I can
I accidentally became a runner during Covid lockdown, turns out the best thing you can do it slowly add cardio to your daily life in small amounts, and RUN SLOWLY I mean really slowly. The only reason I’ve been able to run long distances is because I spent a winter worried about slipping on ice and going painfully slow. It made running easier, enjoyable, and I still experienced so much improvement. Best advice I can give is to make it fun and easy - you will surprise yourself
Absolutly! I agree with my whole body. A few days ago, I discovered the whole wide topic of heart rate training. Boy. I improved my personal best half marathon by roughly 8 minutes (!!!)- because I ran it within aerobic heart zone. 70 % of the time anaerobic felt faster, but was actually a lot slower! And 70 % of the time in aerobic zone with a low heart beat ended up actually being faster. Not only that. I eliminated a lot of issues (mood swings, pressure to take a break and numerous other things) while feeling fresh and ready at the end of the running. I got so excited that I tried running 21,1 km on day 1 and on day 3 again, and it worked. So YEEEESSSSS RUN SLOWLY! :)
DAMN man! this was INSANE. Congrats 🎉🎉🎉 .. this gave me a boost of motivation, and I would really really, REALLY love to see how exactly you planned and shoot all of the materials!!
The roller coaster of emotions that I experienced on this video is like I just watched an EPIC movie. I literally clapped for a long time when you reached the finish line. Fear has been severely dictating my life for the last 6 months, but because of this video, I am now so pumped and motivated to take action! What a gift! Thank you for your hard work Niklas. We're so proud of you.
This was so beautiful and incredibly powerful. I am so so proud of you! About a month ago I watched a docu about Marathon De Sables. Personally, I have always hated running with a passion. I never ever understood why people would do that and enjoy it, just as you said. But MDS showed me how truly beautiful it is to accomplish a marathon. You are able to take back all of your power. I want to start training for my first marathon and while doing research I came upon this. It literally almost brought me to tears to see you go through all of these stages and come out on top. The fact that it rained WAS YOUR GOOD LUCK SIGN. I'm so proud of you and can't wait to show myself who I can be. Thank you for documenting this!
Being a marathon runner too, I feel that this video, and especially the last 2 mins of monologue was just the perfect summary of what running a marathon is all about, and how it changes your life 🏃
I am not a runner and have never run a marathon. However, I came across this video while I was in the middle of a long-term project which I had thought was a impossible dream for many years. I am still working on it and am getting closer to the final product each day. Your story made me tear up. Well done & congrats! So happy for you!
This is already more than just a RUclips video! This is no less than a film about marathon, huge work and amazing result, both in running and filmmaking🔥😱
I've honestly started crying like two-three minutes before the end of the video... The last few phrases got me so emotional because I relate to what you said a lot about the limits and achieving one's dreams if you put in the effort and just keep going. And I feel like I've heard those words before but, at the same time, this was like the first time I was actually paying close attention. It's been a couple of weeks since I started watching one video of yours per day, like I will put them on the TV while I have dinner, just because I get so much inspiration from what you do and who you've come to be. Thank you so much, really. Your stories change people like me for the better. P.s. greetings from Spain! 😊
I just started running two weeks ago, after months of thinking I want to run a marathon within my early 20s. I'm giving myself a deadline of a year to accomplish this goal. I think it's more than enough though still intimidating. Your video just made my conviction stronger: I WILL RUN A MARATHON. I just know it. I'll do it. Right now, I'm sitting in my first 5k at 39 minutes. Nothing impressive, but keep in mind it's my second week of doing this. Let's go.
The last clips of "the marathon" video chapter were so awesome, specifically the 'cut on action' type transitions. *This was the best video for combining your three niches "self development", "travel" and "filmmaking"*
If you can already run a half marathon in an hour and a half, you’re already in pretty good shape. 9 weeks should not be a problem to train for a full marathon.
@@magdytaher1445 if he slowed his pace he probably could’ve finished really easily. With a pace of 4 hr or 4:30 he probably wouldn’t have even had to train
@@magdytaher1445 no there os not. If you run a 1:30 half you already did 90% of the training. All you gotta do is add more mileage, a coupe of 15-20 miles and you are set. I just finished the NYC marathon, 8 months of training (from actually zero, couldn’t t even run 10k in 1 hour in January). Yes, the full is much harder but finishing a half in 90 min ia really impressive, thats over 14km/h (nearly 9 mph) and already sets you in the top 10% fittest marathoners.
I’m training for a half marathon and the I felt a bad pain in my knee, and the main thing that helped so much and healed it, was a simple stretch. It was amazing. It was the normal hold at your ankle quad stretch but it stretched the part of my knee that needed it. I’m glad you went easier, and got the help you needed! This is an amazing video! Thank you!
I never thought i could enjoy a youtube video that much...i downloaded it in the highest possible quantity turn off my mobile deta & locked the room for 34 min so no one can disturb me... Man these 34 minutes are worth it ♥️
Tip for the foam roller: when rolling, try to relax your muscles as much as possible. Try to imagine your muscles melting over the foam roller. Also, make sure to hold the pressure of the foam roller on especially tense/right muscles. I hope this is of some help to someone!!
@@Johnny-lj9uy You are very welcome! I learned this from the amazing Sydney Cummings, her tips are spectacular! And if you were looking for some good foam roller stretches definitely check her out right here on RUclips!!
I'm watching this as I'm training for some big races starting in February. I'm starting with a couple 5ks, then an 8k, a few months later a 10k, then the big 15k in 13 months. I'm excited and so motivated by your video!!!

I used to love running when I was at school, even after leaving school I still enjoyrf it. I stopped runnning when I passed my driving test and started working, plain and simple I got lazy. Now I am over 50 I wsh so much I hadn't ever stopped running. Speaking from personal experience to anyone reading this if you swim, run, play any type of sport then keep it up. It will keep you in good stead as you get older. Don't be a lazy fat old fart like me. This is a great video, not only about the prep for a marathon and what can happen but the positives that running gives you is amazing. Niklas great video, hope you are well.
I gave up my dream of running a marathon a while ago due to injury. Then when I finally could run again they canceled marathon that I was training for due to covid. Now, the preparation starts in January, and hopefully there won't be any issues anymore so I could run it in late March. And of course, congratulations for running a marathon and beating your brother (I know the feeling! 😆) Also the video... Man this is movie production skills right there! Quality of storytelling and shots are insane. It is like a movie I always wanted to make and also watch. Great inspiration Niklas! You're one of my favorite youtubers out there, if not the TOP1. Just keep up living your best life!
Dang, this is a very well made video. The story telling, the shots, the color grading. It built drama but just enough not to make it hyperbolic. This is very enjoyable. Superb! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hey Niklas, just writing to tell you that you're an incredible content creator. All your videos really make me reflect about a lot of things. The feeling of overcome those mental barriers is freacking amazing. I've been running for 2 years and in October i'll run my first Marathon here in Buenos Aires. Thank you man, such an incredible content.
This is the 1st video of yours I’ve watched, appeared in my recommended as I watch a lot of running youtube. The cinematography of your video is on a completely different level to any other running youtube channels I’ve seen. I really hope you continue to run, and maybe even make more videos about it, your positive attitude is really inspiring!
Niklas, this video has been the most beautiful video I have ever watched. I am a track and field runner (400m) and I have been through so many issues you can't even imagine. Over the past few months, I was about to drop everything. This video gave me the right mindset to keep trying and keep pushing. 34 minutes felt like 5. For all the people who read the comments: This video MUST BE shared. People must know this lesson. Thank you for motivating us. Good luck for everything man.
Last week I started running because at 28 I feel the need to take care of my body and celebrate what it can do. My partner (Capetonian) and I were speaking of the Sanlam half marathon (04/2024) and I registered tonight. This video motivates me to an extent I cannot tell you. Thank you so much for what you have created. It's so true what you are saying; it's you versus you.
mate as a triatlhete myself, that's the greatest description of the feellings and motivons I ever heard. Congrats on your first maraton, hope you can have the experience many more times
As a fellow runner, this was hands down the best running video I've watched. Just 71k views(as of now) for this banger is an absolute shame. I've shared it to all my friends man, this deserves 10M views. Heartiest congratulations on completing the marathon, you are amazing!
I used to run when I was younger, but of course I was more interested in video games. So for years I didn’t do anything too physical. But when lockdown hit, I gained quite a bit of weight and was feeling really unmotivated and lost in life. I recently have been getting back on track and I wanted to put more time into running. Originally the idea was losing some weight with cardio, but after doing some daily runs I realized that it’s a beautiful sport and it’s a passion for me that I would’ve never thought I’d have. I was just looking into what shoes I should buy for road running and I got suggested this video. Watching this just reaffirms what I was thinking. It’s challenging, one of the biggest mental and physical drains, and I don’t know why but seeing you persevere through that regardless flicked the last switch in my brain to know that this is something I want to commit a lot of time to. Thank you for making such a beautiful video.
Such a great video Niklas loved both the storytelling and the cinematography! Congrats on your first marathon and welcome to the running community. Can't wait to see what your next running goal will be! If you ever are in need of coaching advice and or physio advice feel free to contact me 😊
I just ran my first marathon last week. Before, I truly thought, “if I can do a half, I can do a full no problem”. What I didn’t realize was that the last 10k of this challenge puts your body into a world it has never experienced before. Truly a challenge. Luckily, I have good health to give it a try. Thankful for that every day! Congrats on finishing! To many more marathons 🍻
Seriously man, you're one of the most inspiring people... Absolutely enjoyed watching this video... so inspiring.. so heartwarming... literally felt all the emotions .. the heartbreak when you couldn't get the tickets and when you felt the pain... and then the joy of when you got in and your entire marathon... the cute moments when the people cheering.. Today, I felt like the goal is too big for me and I could never actually do it. But today I found this video. It has given me more hope and motivation than I have ever had before. Thank you for sharing your journey. Thank you for your inspiration. and WELL DONE for such an incredible achievement.
This is one of the greatest documentary videos about running I've ever seen. Very motivating! I'm not going to stop training until I've met my time targets and won some races. Thank you so much for doing this.
This video was a fricking short movie , never been so immersed in a video before It motivated me so much to go running again it's insane🔥 I don't want to know how much work you put into this
What an amazing video/documentary that was! Absolutely fascinating to watch! I am myself training for my first marathon in Berlin in September and already getting kinda anxious if I still have enough time to train for and to prepare for. But watching you with only one gel during the race and the kind of training you went through gives me MORE than enough prove, that I will be doing just fine and will definitely finish it. So besides this video being a piece of art, my full respect and honor for your dedication and effort and result! btw, great idea of sprinting up the parking garage, I should keep that in mind 😂

Having a 1.33 half puts you in intermediate category for marathon training. Saying you are a beginer is just to create false jeopardy. So beginners out there dont have a false impression of marathon training and what it takes before you start the journey - It took me 3 years of running to get to 1.33 in the half.
@@trueamerica911 @911Apocalypse No. Bodyweight is a small factor in a massive equation. Ive always been lean. Ive had a 5.20 mile when i was 12 and sub 13 100m so always been fast. Speed endurance takes years to develop. Its disingenuous to claim hes a beginner with that sort of time. He has clearly been running for a number of years.
@@trueamerica911 no, you need mileage regardless of fat percentage, of course once you are very fast it helps to be very light, but it’s not about fat percentage, but overall weight, if you are super strong and lean it slows you down, if you are skinny and not as lean It makes you faster. Niklas was in a very good shape already, I follow him on Strava, he didn’t start running for this marathon, but rather had good mileage and speed from previous years. Most beginners would take at least a year to reach this level, more like 2-3 years.
I had a similar journey. Last June, in the midst of a wrecked marriage and a 15 hour drive from family I set out to run a marathon. The date was under 7 weeks away! Having a baseball and personal training background I wasn’t totally lost. But I had actually never ran more then maybe 3 miles at one time in my life! I actually did a complete different running schedule however. Probably over did it. And would run about 3-5 miles everyday and on sundays would add 2 miles to my long run finishing out at 20 miles 2 weeks before. I maybe took 4-5 rest days in the whole 6-7 weeks.. I also would stretch about 30 mins a day and workout (continuing my body building routine) for about an hour a day. All while working 8-10 hours a day. I was thrilled to finish in under four hours, and learned so many life lessons along the way. I learned I was running through problems, not away from them. I learned how to push when I had nothing left. And I learned how to cope, to process, to be still and to mediate, how to pass time without the noise of this world, but rather the noise of my feet hitting the ground. Unbelievable experience and I look forward to training for an iron man. Great video!
I've decided to run several days ago. The first day I managed 7.7 km with pace 5:20. Today was the second training and I did 8.95 km and pace 5:40. And watching this video I'm passionate about it and I'm gonna try to run half marathon. Thanks a lot man
Seeing you crossing the finish line literally made my eyes wet. I'm fighting with myself whole time as well and seeing such an inspiring story of you just boosts up motivation insanely. Can't wait to see your next video. You're one of a kind, keep it up. You can be proud of yourself!! 🏃💨
Amazing job Niklas. It was truly inspiring to watch you go through the ups and down while still pushing through in the end. The quality of your content is movie grade... Netflix needs to give you a show!

Keep it up, Nicklas!
I appreciate the video and positive approach, but guys, this is actually the best way to get injured. He’s been lucky, and you shouldn’t try copying that schedule. Especially if you’re not trained and, even worst, never ever did any training. Even if you are young, stay away from this kind of approach. Keep only the vibe and enthusiasm but leave out all the rest. You’re going to get hurt and see your dream fly away

It’s the last 26.2 miles/42km.” It was basically saying that all of the training you did was part of that marathon, it isn’t just the race, but the training too.

well technically I can run, but only in a shot period of time
since then, I can only watch people run, swim, etc without trying it myself
watching this video makes me miss the old days when I was young who would run around everytime I can
Hey it's okay, I also had an accident now I can barely walk normally and have to crawl to the bathroom, but hope to get better
Try to do weight training instead maybe. To lift weights and gain muscley arms. Girls like it.
Have you tried cycling? It is a very similar experience and you get a lot of the same benefits as running but with much less stress on joints and such
Jesus Christ loves you please repent and forgive. God bless you
thats great but not that you got hurt
I accidentally became a runner during Covid lockdown, turns out the best thing you can do it slowly add cardio to your daily life in small amounts, and RUN SLOWLY I mean really slowly. The only reason I’ve been able to run long distances is because I spent a winter worried about slipping on ice and going painfully slow. It made running easier, enjoyable, and I still experienced so much improvement. Best advice I can give is to make it fun and easy - you will surprise yourself
Even I became runner post COVID Pandemic. Thanks to the running groups near my location. I owe it to them
هلا والله يا الغالي

You both are insane :)
Legend
I bet there was no injury in the first place. Makes a great story and gets more views ;-) oh and the ‘email’ arrived just in time lol
The ultimate video that embodies "Life is a marathon, not a sprint".
Nice that these principles transcends running
Let's go.
How is it going?
Once you get your 5k around 22 minutes then you’ll be ready to endure a marathon
how's it going?
How is it going? I run my first 5km in 45 minutes you are ahead of me
Did you run the marathon?
The last clips of "the marathon" video chapter were so awesome, specifically the 'cut on action' type transitions. *This was the best video for combining your three niches "self development", "travel" and "filmmaking"*
If you can already run a half marathon in an hour and a half, you’re already in pretty good shape. 9 weeks should not be a problem to train for a full marathon.
Thats a very easy thing to say but trust me it’s much more fucking hard to do thats a whole new level of training and dedication and stress…
True
@@magdytaher1445 if he slowed his pace he probably could’ve finished really easily. With a pace of 4 hr or 4:30 he probably wouldn’t have even had to train
Do you run 42 k? Sub?
I never thought of this thank you
@@Johnny-lj9uy You are very welcome! I learned this from the amazing Sydney Cummings, her tips are spectacular! And if you were looking for some good foam roller stretches definitely check her out right here on RUclips!!
yeah, thanks, man.BUT I think the most difficult thing while rolling is trying to relax muscles,I've tried to do it,but it really pains in hell!
Helped me! I'm about to go from no exercise to a half marathon in 4 months. Ordering my foam roller now
This is one of the best things I’ve ever watched. In the midst of my own marathon training this is exactly what I needed to see! Congratulations!
hey, me too! good luck at your marathon!
I'm watching this as I'm training for some big races starting in February. I'm starting with a couple 5ks, then an 8k, a few months later a 10k, then the big 15k in 13 months. I'm excited and so motivated by your video!!!
My last run was of 11k, and today first time in my life i gonna run for 13k
Good luck on your run maggi
and? how did it go?
@@lauens Really well so far! My 5k time went from 1:03:06 at my first race to my fastest time in April of 40:48! I have a mud run in a couple of weeks, then a few more 5ks before my first ever 10k. Thank you for checking in!
@@maggislayton well how'd the 10k go?
I used to love running when I was at school, even after leaving school I still enjoyrf it. I stopped runnning when I passed my driving test and started working, plain and simple I got lazy. Now I am over 50 I wsh so much I hadn't ever stopped running. Speaking from personal experience to anyone reading this if you swim, run, play any type of sport then keep it up. It will keep you in good stead as you get older. Don't be a lazy fat old fart like me.
This is a great video, not only about the prep for a marathon and what can happen but the positives that running gives you is amazing. Niklas great video, hope you are well.
Such a well made video, very inspiring. I just started running in my 40’s. Going to do a half marathon in a few months. I love running
Also the video...
Somehow this brought tears in my eyes. As a frequent runner, I felt the pain, the mental emotions. Well done!
What a brilliant viewing I had. The message at the end especially hits home! Thank you Niklas and congratulations on completing the marathon.
My motivation, my inspiration, my idol. Niklas chrystl ❤️💞
Ich finde deine Videos super! Ich bin seit dem du ca.15.000 Abonnenten hast dabei und hast deinen Kanal großartig aufgebaut!

Excellent dear love it and i love running so much your every word is true excellent making dear .
Sir, you are also here!!!!! Are you training for a marathon??
Sir you are our inspiration
As a fellow runner, this was hands down the best running video I've watched. Just 71k views(as of now) for this banger is an absolute shame. I've shared it to all my friends man, this deserves 10M views. Heartiest congratulations on completing the marathon, you are amazing!
IKR!
to be honest it felt unattural. What is he doing with three camers around him. Also, it takes 34 minutes to explain the lesson.
@@makisxatzimixas2372 That is how you tell a story
I was literally cheering for you while watching it... and then felt the happiness for you when you finally completed it! Omg! Thanks for this awesome Documentary... well done!! You're absolutely awesome!! Stay blessed man!

This year I decided that my only goal is to run a marathon. I am not a runner and have never run more than a handful of times in my life. Today, I felt like the goal is too big for me and I could never actually do it. But today I found this video. It has given me more hope and motivation than I have ever had before. Thank you for sharing your journey. Thank you for your inspiration. and WELL DONE for such an incredible achievement.
You can do it...
This is one of the greatest documentary videos about running I've ever seen. Very motivating!
I'm not going to stop training until I've met my time targets and won some races. Thank you so much for doing this.
This video was a fricking short movie
, never been so immersed in a video before
It motivated me so much to go running again it's insane🔥
I don't want to know how much work you put into this
I watched this from start to finish without pausing or skipping and I would watch it start to finish again! Loved it and congratulations
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS I'VE EVER SEEN! No joke it is so inspiring. I really think I have to run a marathon for myself now.

God that’s a super impressive time with that level of training and injury. Really incredible
Having a 1.33 half puts you in intermediate category for marathon training. Saying you are a beginer is just to create false jeopardy. So beginners out there dont have a false impression of marathon training and what it takes before you start the journey - It took me 3 years of running to get to 1.33 in the half.
I guess running perfeomance is mostly determined by body fat percentage, and he was very thin already. So maybe untrained, but already fast.
@@trueamerica911 In his first week his plan was to do a 18km run, he clearly isn't a complete beginner
It just depends on age and athleticism. I got down to a sub 1:30 half within 6 months of running
Thanks a lot man
I feel like I should have paid to see this. This is fricking MASTERPIECE
You already paid by watching the video 🙃
Seeing you crossing the finish line literally made my eyes wet. I'm fighting with myself whole time as well and seeing such an inspiring story of you just boosts up motivation insanely.
Can't wait to see your next video. You're one of a kind, keep it up. You can be proud of yourself!!

In my mid 20s I was a jogger…not a runner lol. A friend of mine signed up for the Disney 1/2 marathon. She trained for months before getting an injury 2 weeks before the race. Keep it up, Nicklas!
Well done my son! I am very proud of you!😉👍😊

Soooo proud of you Nikklas, i'm dedicating this whole year to training, hoping to runa capw town marathon next year. "You did it Joe"
What a great video!! Absolutely loved this. Well done on an awesome debut marathon!! It’s taken me 14 marathons to get to 3:39 😂 Seriously impressive.
did you have any running background before or some fitness before? i cannot believe that in 1 month you can prepare for 3:30 marathon from 0. i am running for many years, avg of 30km a week. i finally tried a marathon for first time and my time was 4:30. plus i also do triathlons and other fitness activity.
Could be many things, from where he's racing himself (maybe you ran where there's more hills), to the training itself.
Niklas did state that he had previous experience in running half marathons.
He run 21km in 90minutes on his 2nd long run . This guy definitely was fit before the video
Edit:
The average person needs about 40 minutes for 5-6 km
I mean he most likely did. He finished a half marathon before which is already very impressive.
That’s what I was thinking, starting from 0 it’s impossible to do what it does
Loved it thanks. Running my first Sanlam CPT Marathon this year. Not many people have documented their race day on this toute.
3:34, damn man that is some serious pace, very impressive!

Excellent video, perfectly shows off the highs and lows you experience during training. My first in 2 weeks time
The fact he ran a 1:30 half before off the bat he obviously has high levels of fitness from elsewhere and an average person who doesnt exercise wouldnt be able to do it in 9 weeks, might be able to do a half!
exactly, that´s well faster than the average recreational runner would be able to do, even when training for the half marathon.
This video inspired me to run my first ever half marathon and first ever race completed the half marathon in 2:42 was definitely a challenge but I had a great time
