After reading the comments about the hat being too small , I was reluctant to try it, but I'm so pleased I did because following the instructions and using a 6 mm hook because I don't have a larger one , it worked out beautifully . I would think the problem width sizing, and it being too small, is if it does not fit before you start the decreasing, it won't fit once you start the decreasing, I would just increase until it fits around your head, and then do your decreasing, you're probably only talking a few extra rows. . Just my thoughts, a beautiful , simple pattern. Thank you :-)

Like many others was a little small in the end. I used Caron simply soft and crocheted loosely. I simply frogged a few rows of decreases and did four or five rows of hdc and then one row of single crochet followed by reverse single crochet at the end. Fits great with those modifications for me.

I used Red Heart Hopscotch in color Waterslide. I used a 7mm hook because I crochet fairly tight. I might should have stopped decreasing at row 24 because the brim is slightly tight. It still fits, it’s just a little more of a challenge to get all my hair (that’s down to my derrière) in there. I can’t wait to wear this shopping and maybe even to work when I don’t feel like braiding my hair. Thank you!

I had an amazing 3 weight yarn that I wanted to use. I used a 5.5 hook and just added some increase rows and the rows in the middle to look about the same size as yours. Oh, I also made a mistake from the very beginning by using the back two loops instead of the front two. So, instead of tearing it all out I just continued that way. It really looks nice. Thank you for the video.

    • @terriadams5285
      @terriadams5285 2 года назад

How many rows in the middle did you add ? I am using 4.5 hook Did you also go down to the increase of 5 or keep it at 6 or 7. Going down to 5 made it way small for an adult head

I used RedHeart Unforgettable Waves, used a 7 mm hook for the different thickness of yarn and my tension, it worked up beautifully and fits perfectly, I did go down to 6.5 for the brim but took it out (looked to small) and used my 7. I love it now on to the next one. Thank you

I just finished my first slouchy hat using Lions Brand Vanna's Choice yarn in purple print (blue/purple mix) using a J hook (6mm) as directed by the yarn label which is 100% acrylic #4 medium yarn. I used 1 skein all the way up to round 24 and then I had to use a 2nd skein for round 25 and then the ribbing/border rounds 26-29. So i'd say I used 1/4 of the 2nd skein to complete my hat. It fits me perfectly and I have a full head of thick very curly hair that is down to my shoulders. So I can't wait to find some nice yarn in great colors to make a few more for mysef and for my two daughters.... Thank you Nadia!!

I've made this hat last year with the same yarn you used just another color and it looked awesome and I gave it to a friend. I made it again tonight (for me) 11.15.17 using Noro Taiyo yarn color #1 and it's fabulous!! Very expensive to make as the yarn is $20 a ball and I used one ball and a 1/4 of another but man it's just gorgeous. I made a poncho out of this yarn also and I cannot wait for it to get cold enough to wear them together. Thanks for sharing

    Hi there,
You did a perfect job explaining your slouchy hat. For me as a beginner it was very easy to follow, since I just did what you said. Being able to count helps a lot, though. My beanie turned out a little small for that reason, but I keep telling me it's just because I used my own handspun yarn which is probably not as flexible as the one u introduced in the tutorial. So anyhow, thank you so much & of course I subscribed... sunny autumn greetings from Bonn, Germany, Elke.

Definitely turned out nice but too small. But...my fault for not really checking the fit before I started decreasing. I will either try stretching it out, gift it to someone with a smaller head or turn it upside down and add a drawstring to make it a pouch. I may try again with less decreases. 42 stitches is probably going to be more comfortable than 36 for me.

Lol. So I used red heart super saver yarn in stripes with a 5.5 mm hook and by the time I got done with the decreasing rows it was too tight to even go on my head lol so I took about 6 rows out an improvised my own little closure. Great tutorial I really only needed to watch the 1st 5 minutes because I could not for the life of me remember how to increase when making a slouch hat lol thanks
I actually think the red heart young with do very well if I had used an 8 mm hook. Just a slightly larger hook then what the yarn calls for with probably work.

Finally made this hat (after 3 tries)! This was a very simple pattern, but very difficult as well because there were NO gauge instructions. Please provide gauge measurements next time. I used 3 different hook sizes to obtain the look. I also used 4 ply acrylic yarn for my hat. Save yourself the trouble and read on!
    Rnds 1-12 (11.5MM)
    Rnds 13-19 (7MM)
Rnds 20-25 (6MM) I actually OMITTED RND 25 because the hat was a little too tight around the head
Rnds 26-29 (7MM) I actually did SC in these rnds NOT HDC. I think the brim worked in SC looks better
You're welcome and I really, really hope this helps!

Erica Siddeeq It plainly says in the written instructions to use a 6.5mm hook...........and if you crochet loosely it'll be perfect???? I don't think anyone else has had a problem.

Ummm, I posted that comment 6 months ago and since then, I've made 7 of these hats. Thanks for the comment, but you're a little late. Go find yourself something to crochet. #HappyHooking 😊😊

Erica Siddeeq I am a beginner. I failed badly the first time and the second try is much better although it fits my head perfectly like a regular beanie..there is no slouch in it. i guess my head is much bigger. i am going to try out your suggestion the next time. i hope i will get the slouchy look then.

Same just started it But stopped at row 6 Cos my stitches are tight they usually are she seems quite a loose stitcher so I’m starting over using a bigger hook to get the looser effect maybe she should have said about loosely stitching etc would have known to go with bigger hook if she did never mind lol xx

Great tutorial. I had a problem at the decreasing row, but after a deep breath, it worked out. I'm very new to crocheting, but would love to make one for a baby, but I'm having a hard time figuring out the number of stiches. Any suggestions? Thank you for the excellent and pleasant video.

I love this patterm but mine didn't work out! I'm a beginner and don't have the actual wool you are using, I first tried it with a chunky wool on a 6mm hook that didn't work. then i tried DK wool on a 6.5 mm hook. it don't look anything like yours and it looks small¬? 😏

I got some thin yarn an I started a chain then slip stitch through first chain an made circle I did DC 18 in center then I did chain 3 an double Crochet 3 times in same then chain 3 an 3 double chain 3 an 3 double an so on.
Anyway i just kept going an it looks like it could be a sluchy but it has like afghan holes etc so how do I get it to go small to fit your head
If i can get it to fit like a slouchy

I did something stupid and used wool-ease size 6 yarn on an N hook, stayed up all night, and this hat is HUGE. I'm only barely halfway. Not sure if I should unravel and use this yarn for some other project. I think you have to use the size yarn she uses or this doesn't come out right. :(
