Hey fellow bird rescuers! Can't get your baby bird to eat? My other video shows you the trick to convincing a baby bird to take food from your syringe. This is the hardest part, and my trick is super-easy! Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/-ecoNrYIUTQ/видео.html
Maybe tell us the Fahrenheit temperature as well as the Celsius? Also, you might feature what the product is that you are mixing up. I assume it's some kind of bird food but a good picture of the front of the product along with suggestions of where you can find it, would be really really helpful. Also, maybe a suggestion of something that you could find around the house that could take the place of one meal until you can get down to the store to buy the product that is necessary for the feeding . Thank you
Just bought two baby cockatiels, one happily consumes this stuff, the other isn't. I've seen the second bird eat some hard food, so I think it's possible that he/she was almost fully off of liquid food when he/she got to us, or it's a health issue.
Great video. I’m using the same formula for a baby Blue Jay that my brother found. I’ll be adding worms to his or her meals I’m just not sure how many to feed this lil fella. Your video taught me how to feed it. Hopefully he’ll be fine tomorrow. Thank you blessings
please help the mama left nest today. babies are maybe 2 to 3 days old. dont know what to do. Should i go buy food or wait a day to see if she returns?
Yeah yesterday ,same thing happen to me,😢where is she ?Her partner n kids miss her very much ...N don't know how to take care of the babies....They r so young ...
I was wondering if you kept the bird indoors or outdoors. I just rescued a baby bird much like yours and I placed him in a plant pot but I’m afraid of him going missing. Any tips?
I gave her the spare bathroom! Just be careful when you open the door. I took her outside in a makeshift cage several times, and her parents would immediately swoop down nearby and she would start jumping around in response. But I kept her longer before setting her free because I knew she simply wasn’t strong enough to survive. I flight trained her in my living room! Not that we can teach them how to fly; they already know how to do that. But I’d carefully force her to flap her wings by having her on my finger and then lowering it quickly (she’d bat her wings for stability). In my mind I felt I was helping her build her strength. After several days I’d lower my hand and she’d just take flight, slowly descending until she landed on the ground. And then after a couple more days she could actually gain altitude and fly around the room. That’s when I set her free, and it was glorious! When I set her free (I should post that video) she flew straight up to her parents and they all went bananas, clucking and ruffling their feathers. They never left, they knew I had her and they waited 2 weeks. The next day she flew right into my hand from the tree! The day after that she flew down and landed next to me. The next day she wouldn’t let me get too close, and soon after she was back to the wild! Weeks and months later a dove would occasionally dive-bomb me or land 10 feet away and hang out all by itself; I’m pretty sure it was my little girl just saying hi. Very special experience
I found a baby Starling yesterday (Thursday 5-12-22) on the street. Watched it for about 50 min. from a distance and no parents anywhere to be seen. I decided to rescue the bird after another bird violently attacked it. I made the moist dry dog food (as explained in many videos) but so far the bird (which is a fledgling) will not do any gapping so that I can feed it. Can you advise please how to encourage it to start gapping. Note: The bird was very energetic when I found it and could hop and walk very well and it was not sick and it's not injured. It has all it's feathers. Thanks very much for any suggestions and help. Philip Jersey Shore Area
Oh, so it doesnt have to be precise? Just more liquidy for very young birds, and as they age, less liquidy? I was nervous because im not good with precise stuff lol. I have 3 baby pigeons that will hatch out soon btw.
Exactly. I find the precise directions to be a bit silly. It’s really hard to measure out in such small portions, and once you know what the proper consistency looks like, precision measuring is kind of pointless. Same with temperature. I get comments by people freaking out about serving the food too hot and burning the baby. Do you know how quickly such a small amount of liquid loses temperature?! The food goes cold in no time. So don’t stress, you’ve got this! Use warm water and get the consistency to match my video. Test with your finger and if you think it’s too warm, wait a minute and test again. Easy-peasy!
@@matthewchandler2647 Thank you so much for your help! As my birds are first-time pigeon parents, I'm overthinking quite a bit! But I think they will be just fine! I just have worried about the parents not taking care of the babies because this is their first time, and maybe they don't know what to do, and I would have to end up raising them. That's why I'm buying squab formula JUST in case. Btw, how is your pigeon now? It's been a while since this video has been released. Lol.
@@madelynt1615 feed them as much as you possibly can and release them as soon as their flying is strong enough to get off the ground and stay off. The parents know exactly what to do, the chicks just came out of the nest too soon. Your job is to keep them growing until they can fly, at which point the parents will take over. I have other videos about Daphne the Dove’s release and reunion with her parents, it was fantastic!
My only concern would be that the seeds you’re using don’t have the correct nutritional content the chick needs. So better than nothing, but unless you know exactly what seeds they eat, you’re taking a risk. If you watch birds grazing they don’t eat everything, they are extremely selective in which seeds they pick up
Learn something from this..ive been feeding my dove with more hard consistency for the food.can you tell me how you figure how much food should you feed it?how much ML?
Easy - when it is full it will lose interest in eating. Feed it multiply times per day, 3 times minimum, and every time feed it until it refuses to eat anymore. Check my other video on feeding technique
Please tell me what to feed 1 month old brahminy Starling....it is abandoned baby i found it when it's eyes were not opened.... i feed it roasted chickpeas but it is not getting proper nutrition so please guide me ...also pet shops don't have any food for Mynah(starling) birds
Just a tip/trick - doves actually like to suck the food - so if you put a piece of plastic wrap over a bottle/jar and poke a hole the just big enough for the beak fit...the dove will suck the formula out. (tilt formula up like a bottle...like you would for a baby) works so much easier than trying to feed doves with a syringe. :)
Hmmm... How do you get them started? Thats the drawback of all such techniques I saw before I figured out my own way (check out my other video, it’s really effective). I mean, how do you get the fledgling to associate feeding with sticking its beak in a hole in plastic wrap or cheese cloth or whatever else you use? Would certainly be less work than refilling a syringe multiple times (or perhaps I should have just used a jumbo syringe!🤦🏼♂️). The challenging part is getting them to understand that the unnatural action (syringe, bottle, whatever) gets them food. Once they figure it out they never forget, but that first feeding is the “make or break” feeding.
@@matthewchandler2647 for my dove rescue we had to poke an opening just big enough for its beak - and put it into the hole for him to "figure it out" after the first couple times he became a pro. :) Just make sure it's tilted so they don't get air bubbles... Same as a baby with a bottle.
