Yeah, he contradicts himself in this video. He saying it’s not a “thing” and yet, he mentions that oxalates binds to calcium and other nutrients to help it pass through…. Well, that means oxalates are anti-nutrients!! Yes, for the most part, oxalates do bind to nutrients like calcium.. but what he’s missing is, by calcium’s nd other nutrients binding to oxalates, you are also stripped of these nutrients, thereby, making you low on them… contradicting wouldn’t you say?

What the Doctor says is a point well taken but from what I've understood from experts on the subject of Oxalates, such as Sally Norton, is that the problem with oxalates is that the average person eats a large amount of oxalates every day, more than what the body can handle before it becomes toxic, which is about 50 milligrams per day. Most people eat in the hundreds of milligrams per day, and oxalates become toxic at those numbers, and over the years, they can create many health problems.

So I tried the carnivore diet... eliminating anything that can cause a problem in digestion. Within 7 days I pass several kidney stones and parasites... it was amazing and the most painful experience I've ever had. But if I hadn't try the elimination process I have no idea how big those kidney stones would have gotten.
I am continuing my carnivore diet to see what else happens and so far my skin has cleared up and started to heal.
For me I would say if you have a condition or illness start eliminating and see what happens and adjust accordingly....

Not coffee. Most of the foods heavy with oxalate were not traditionally eaten or were processed somehow ( soaking, fermenting, sprouting). This information, oxalate poisoning, is saving my life!! It takes time for the oxalate to accumulate to dangerous levels. We have forgotten about the toxicity in plants, our ancestors knew and took great pains to process the toxins out of plants. It took decades for my oxalate level to begin harming me. I had a very high level of oxalate in my diet.

Me too. My experience: . CARNIVORE ONLY.. It's more like when the oxalate disease related issues show up not really if. all of a sudden you will have a disease that will spring from nowhere. We are carnivores, nothing else. I fixed 4 chronic illnesses by going carnivore. All plants are poison, built in poisons plus the pesticides. Think about it, what did humans eat BEFORE the first taste testers of plants. Meat. Plants, all plants have no b vitimins and they block vitimins and minerals. They cause. diseases. The sugars in fruits and veggies crystallize in your body and turn to glass shards and then start cutting you inside depending on where your body places the crystals. If they deposit them in your colon, colitis and chrons. If they deposit them on your brain then Lou Gerigs and Parkingsons. If they deposit on your nerves....neuropathy or multiple sclerosis. BTW, all of that is in her book. I'm reading it. I had 4 chronic illnesses and a bunch of terrible symptoms like , hang nails and brittle nails, sticky tarry bowel movements, dizziness, joint pain, etcc.... all fixed right away. They lie to us about everything. On carnivore out bodies use almost all the nutrient so there are not a lot of bowel movements like it should be. Going once a day like they teach means you are creating so much waste which leads to colon cancer and colon problems. Try the carnivore rx page on Facebook. Many people fix their illnesses on a carnivore diet. Beef has all vitimins and minerals in the correct form and amount. 1 1/2 pounds a day for women, 2 pounds for men. Problem solved. I know you will naturally doubt what I am saying, no need, because I've been there and done that.

I am oxalate dumping right now. I was on a screwed up diet called pure high oxalate superfoods for decades. Im not dying but it does hurt. Better to learn from Sally Norton or Elliot Overton on this topic.
Oxalates can throw off your mineral balance, form painful crystals throughout the body (more often in women than men due to estrogen receptors in the kidneys)… this more often creating oxalate kidney stones in men who overload on them.
I appreciate absorbing new perspective from this guy…
Don’t appreciate him discounting the experience of those experiencing the painful oxalate dumping process as I am.
If elimination pathways can not keep up, cations are insufficient etc… and there is dysfunction… then reducing the intake of oxalate is needed.
Also warning people about super high oxalate foods can help prevent the overload in some people… ie spinach and rhubarb and beet greens and chard and almonds etc over years are not helping.
A carnivore keto diet with a little oxalate is fine. A little oxalate generated endogenously is normal.
Living on a high oxalate plant based diet is not normal to our genetics and the dose makes the poison.

All doctors, at least the ones I have gone to for help, just push pharmaceuticals. There is no medicine that has ever helped me. I would go almost a month sometimes before I would have a bowel movement. Doctors all said eat fiber, which caused my pain and inflammation to go through the roof. This makes SO much more sense to me, and i have experienced the awful effects! I have had crippling anxiety my entire life. I've had digestive issues and interstitial cystitis most of my life as well. I also developed rheumatoid arthritis and severe lymphatic swelling 5 years ago. I started eating low carb most of the time about 10 years ago with good results with my digestion, but continued to have severe anxiety and panic. So last summer I went full carnivore for 4 months, which meant I eliminated oxalate as well. For the first time, I was panic free. I also saw the largest reduction in the RA that I have so far. Then I started a more Ray Peat approach, keeping oxalate rich foods out but incorporating natural sugar and fruit. My RA is now worse than ever. I am still anxiety free, but I think my leaky gut just couldn't handle all the spinach\chocolate and other oxalate rich foods I used to eat. I am going back to keto and can't wait to be pain free again! Thanks for sharing!!

No. It's a universal.

Trying to manage Graves’ disease with diet etc. I was loading up on spinach, plant based protein powder , almonds , dark chocolate, black tea, only using almond milk every morning and dandelion tea every night for “detox”. Eating ZERO dairy due to lactose intolerance. I spent 14 days on a low oxalate diet and although the first 4 days were horrendous with back pain and bloating, headache and fatigue, I felt far better than I had in years after the two weeks. But now I eat normally with the exception of the big offenders (think rhubarb, spinach, chocolate, black tea, almonds etc.) I am just more aware and be reasonable. I completely cut nut milks and plant based protein powders as well and I am feeling good for the first time in years. Who knows if it was oxalate…. I don’t really care.

    • @urosrakic6900
      @urosrakic6900 2 года назад +1

I think that it makes more sense to stay away from Sally Norton and Elliot Overton (since they are panickers who raise panic about oxalates). But, I also advise not to underestimate oxalates. Neither scaremongering (which Sally Norton and Elliot Overton do) or underestimating is good. Healthy person (with an impeccable health) eats 200-300 mg of oxalates on a daily basis without any problems. This is standard amount of dietary oxalates and it is acceptable, providing that you are healthy.
It is, still, wise to avoid eating (or jucing) pounds of spinach every day (especially if you are prone to CaOx kidney stones), since this is the moment where oxalates can cause serious health problems.
Omnivore diet is the best and the key is a moderation. Omnivore diet > keto diet > karnivore diet. Omnivore diet is the balanced diet. Keto diet permits large amounts of spinach (just one handful of it contains 755mg of oxalates) and other high oxalate foods, while carnivore diet excludes every plant based food (it even excludes a low oxalate plants, like an arugula or cabbage). Keto diet, due to all reasons above, raises risk of getting Calcium Oxalate stones, while carnivore diet can bring other set of problems (like raising LDL or causing colon cancer in the worst case scenario (which can be lethal if it is left untreated)).

I am not a Dr. nor am I a scientist but I know one thing for sure. I was 430 pounds in 2010 and decided to go low carb. I lost 200 pounds and felt great and consumed almost no veggies. In October of 2016, I wanted to lose a few more pounds and decided I would bring in more veggies, nuts, and 90% dark chocolate. I had never eaten spinach but thought I would try it and see if I liked it. I did, and so I started with cooked spinach and then went on to raw spinach. The longer I went the more spinach I ate every single day. I also ate almonds, 90% dark chocolate every single day. In September of 2018, I was blessed with kidney stones that ended up with me having surgery and my first experience with a catheter. So in 41 years of living, I had not been eating a high oxalate diet from veggies and nuts and had never had a kidney stone. In two years of bringing in "the big salads," I am down and out with kidney stones. The urologist looked at my diet (I keep detailed spreadsheets of everything I eat) and he said this is 100% due to diet. He told me to cut out all the high oxalate foods and stay under 50 oxalates a day. So can I say for sure that it is the fault of oxalates? Again, not being a Dr. nor a Scientist I can only go off of what I read and what happened to me. After dealing with kidney stones I will let the big-armed sailor deal with kidney stones, not me.

Strict elimination diet showed me all the many symptoms I was getting from 99% of plants (not coconut or coffee thankfully).
I’ve been continuing to eliminate plants and feeling better & better. Now I mostly only take a few coconut products. When I eat other plant foods whether processed, raw, or whole/cooked, I am wrecked for days.
I do believe oxalate dumping is a thing for me too. Maybe they affect me more than other people since my health has been so damaged & crazy last 10 years.

It certainly has been for me. I was doing quite well on the keto/carnivore diet until about month 3 and then I had a terrible oxalate dump. It felt like little shards of fiberglass coming out through my skin around the gallbladder/liver. I would put money on a guess that I passed a gall stone one night. Anyway, just saying, for those of us who have really overdone it in the past (my guess I had at least 1000 and possibly 2000mg of oxalates a day on a "healthy plant based diet"), oxalates can certainly be a problem. Tell your PCP to upgrade his lipidology knowledge. Why on earth are these clowns still practicing like it was 1970, just pushing people on to drugs WITHOUT assessing their REAL CVD risk instead of a simplistic assessment done on insufficient data
If you have low triglycerides (from LCHF/Keto) the burden of transporting them can be handled by HDL, thus preserving your native LDL coming from the liver (i.e., LDL particles remain large, fluffy, undamaged so can return safely to the liver via the LDL receptor, pretty much as they are supposed to)
If the TG level is high, on the other hand, (120) or above, HDL is typically insufficient to cope with transportation of TG so LDL gets recruited for some of the work, stripping them down in size slightly,, bringing them down into the size capable of entering the arterial wall. They then move around, get slightly damaged from the glucose, and other oxidising agents, rendering them foreign to the LDL receptor on the liver, thus leaving them in the blood for far longer, creating a lot of damage to the arterial wall (the liver won't allow them to bind to the LDL receptor after they get oxidised or glycated, so they remain in the blood)
Your PCP would just do well to watch any video of Professor Ken Sikarus, head of Melbourne Pathology who explains it all very simply in nearly all his RUclips videos

It is interesting that the vilification of oxalates parallels the presumptive demonization of other nutrients in the past. These conclusions are always based on one of two types of errors in judgement:
    1. The authority figure looks at a substance's deleterious affects within a damaged body, and erroneously extrapolates from that and assumes that this substance must be damaging to all bodies, even healthy ones. An example of this is the fear of protein. Since high protein has an adverse affect on people with compromised renal function, it is therefore assumed, wrongly, that high protein is problematic for everyone.
    2. Using animal studies to test the destructive affects of a substance and, again, inferring from those animal models that the same applies to humans, despite the fact that no clinical or even epidemiological data in humans substantiates this relationship. The shortcomings in animal models was made apparent years ago, when the supposed cancer causing affects of aspartame was debunked when it was illustrated that the study being used to buttress this claim was based on a rat study, where they gave the rats a dose of aspartame that was several hundred times higher, proportionally, to what a person could ever consume in real life
The problem with so much of nutrition research is it is replete with those two types of studies. Then to compound matters, you have weak epidemiology to further add to the confusion. Then the mainstream media gets a hold of these studies and preaches it as gospel, without ever actually disclosing the type of study and its limitations. . Its no wonder so much of the public is bewildered.

Doc, you and Saladino are going to have to square off and settle this, because he has plants as the source of most of the world's woes. I can barely enjoy my salads any more. I get the sense that the only diet I should every consider is cold, raw grass-fed beef liver on a plate. And keto had been working so well for me for 15 months now. 108 pounds lost, diabetes kicked into remission. Cheers.

At the moment, Dr Saladino is going after polyunsaturated fatty acids as the main culprit for today's issues and he's not so worried about carbs anymore. (At least not if you're metabolically healthy already). Dr. Cywes just posted a video today about veggies. He's giving you a free pass to consume them because "they don't count" when it comes to carbs. A CGM will prove that, too.

@@AnnaMariaAnia Yes it can be confusing. I've been studying nutrition & Keto for over one and a half years now. Went from 83kg to 60kg in the first 8 mths and now stable. But it will take several more years to undo the majority of the damage my body has suffered from decades of the long term lethal SAD diet. On the SAD diet after a few decades, EVERYBODY starts having their organs failing.
The thing is; there's a big difference between just eating a healthy diet, and eating a specific tailored diet with the aim to quickly recover from long term extreme volume carbohydrate consumption - and your own specific bodily damage.
The first is easier - basically a traditional human diet, healthy locally grown and raised whole foods, and leave out ALL the factory processed and factory created products and so called "foods" (e.g. veg. oils etc).
The second is much more complicated, as you need to evaluate exactly where your body is, damage wise; and then allow for those specifics with dietary choices. To understand our own health or rather in-health, we need to take on board a whole lot of nutritional education, and that's difficult to do with all the misinformation that's widely preached and taught, and believed by most people!?.
Both are annoyingly somewhat complicated however, simply because our commonly available western food supplies are swamped with unhealthy and dangerous products that no human should ever consume - all the way to literal poisons freely included. It's a mine field. But walking through it is quite doable, once you get sufficiently educated and experienced. The BIG problem is the SAD diet and all their dangerously unhealthy food products. Get off it as quickly as you can, and you already have 90% of your solution/remedy accomplished.
So my point and reason for replying is to point out that people confuse the two aims. The second IS mostly required, because most people HAVE been living on the SAD diet for multiple decades already.
A final point for further complication :), we're NOT all the same, different blood lines have adapted differently to their original local traditional diet (the human body is a VERY smart design). Such adaption "sticks" through about seven generations. So that unfortunately there is no one easy diet definition that will best suit every individual. So the process becomes an exploration, an adventure. It can be very interesting and enjoyable - a personal science experiment where you get to see (and feel) immediate results. Both good and bad! lol. Hope this helps.

Even if we agree or not... The more we talk about it and study is a good thing. I see comments here who says that oxalates are horrible for them etc... Let us know so we know what fuel fuels you. Some people are very ok with high oxalates but who know how it can be in 10 years for that person... The human body is a complex machine.
So what I like about you doctor is that you bring it up. Let the debate start etc then but we have become so emotional and an attack on the person, the subjectivity rather than being objective takes over fast.
We are "relearning" how to eat normal again.
People live to eat! It's sad... We should eat to live... Like dr Berry said... Eat and go out and play.
Thank you for talking about oxalades. I'm into learning more about them. I had to bring tiny amounts back into my diet due to very very loose stool from being carnivore. Takes time, for some people, to dump them down, if those are hurting them or they want to heal something.
    Complex stuff... But fascinating.

Yes, you made me think. As a victim of two kidney stones now, the second one 8 mm, both dislodged shortly after becoming fat adapted, I'm extremely concerned. Afraid even. I don't ever want to go through that again. However my carbohydrate addiction is also horrible and I'm having trouble kicking it. My urologist says the main problem with kidney stones is not drinking enough water. After watching your video, I'm inclined to agree. Water is very hard for me. if I don't put myself on a drinking schedule I will go all day and realize I drank maybe a half a cup of water--or NONE. I have to force myself to drink a half a cup of water every half hour, knowing that I will miss a bunch of them, to get in even a decent amount of water. I wonder what's wrong with my thirst mechanism.

Is there an element of dosage making the poison?
After learning a little bit about oxalates, I decided to run a little experiment. I used to eat a couple of handfuls of almonds (dry roasted and only seasoned lightly with salt) for lunch every weekday (along with some hard cheese, and some sort of lunch-/deli-meat.
I eliminated the almonds and put hard boiled eggs in their place. In a few days, I noticed an improvement in some chronic left forearm pain. And after a few weeks of this regimen that pain is pretty much completely gone.
This was the only change I made; is there another possible explanation if it is not due to the oxalates??

You are correct.
