I Vote For Wayne
TalentlessTyler that was deep
TalentlessTyler yeah he won just because of that line
The "And i set 183 of them" was where the entire poles shifted to opposite ends of the battle.
That lone gave it to gretzky for me
Aluxir that was the biggest burn this season. I can still feel the sting.
i mean really, its both true and extremely biting
they could've cast the actual Tony Hawk to play himself in this and no one would've noticed
Most underrated comment of all ERB comments, because that's the world Tony lives in 😆
And he still wouldn't care
My dad actually bares a passing resemblance to Tony Hawk, and he could have pulled the schtick off just as well.

I still think about "you'll be speechless after 3 periods, like an elipsis" daily. It's been years now and that line is just too fucking good lol
Same. I come back to this one occasionally for that verse almost exclusively.
Legit my favorite line from this one
One of the GOAT lines in any ERB. So clever and well delivered.
Can someone please explain
@@IceBr8kr An ellipses is 3 periods in a row, used to indicate someone is trailing off in their speech. For example, "but I thought you said you were broken up...". So three periods indicates speech has stopped.
A period is also used in hockey - there are four of them in the game.
Gretzky is saying he's so good at hockey that after 3 periods, Hawk won't even know what to say - he'll be speechless.
"your on your fourth, wife. Talk about the EX games" Fucking epic

@@somegirl675 sorry for that crucial mistake
That was when the battle ended for people who WEREN'T sports fan's. everything after that was just the gravy on the poutine.
The “Oiler alert, you’re about to get traded” line isn’t really that big of a punch, but just the way it’s delivered makes it my favorite line in the entire battle
well its a reference to the insane trade in the 90's
My favorite line by far is "hotter than your daughterrrrr" just cause of the delivery lolll
I’m from Edmonton so I like the reference to the Oilers even though it was a sad event for Edmontonians :(
I’m with crafty my fave line also 😆
Nah that line is ruthless. That trade came as a huge surprise to Gretzky, who legit cried during the press conference after it was announced.
Gretzky’s line about “this goofy-footed geek” is pure genius. In skateboarding, depending on what foot you push with, it’s referred to as goofy or regular. Tony Hawk is a goofy skater, so it’s perfect.
Also, A(n Extremely) Goofy Movie.

@@chilllenmann6140 I'm goofy and mongo 😅. I longboard tho sooooooooooo
"184 world records between us... and I hold 183 of em" that line ended it
I want to like this so bad, but it would ruin the current number (184).
It was close enough and you know it.
Eh, that line could "end" any rap battle. He will always have 183 records. Because of that, it's just a random fact.
But clearly Gretzky has the better ryhmes here. I don"t know what happened with Hawk's material, it was almost as weak as the Easter Bunny.
Ikr if he only said that one line he still would've won because that's just too hard to come back from.
Blauze. Almost. I think that battle was the weakest. The Easter Bunny was just pathetic.
To the people asking why this video is the least popular; I imagine the cross section of people who like hockey, skateboarding, rap, and novelty songs is pretty small haha.
Aangler rap is literally the most popular genre right now. And this video has over 11 million views lol
@@MittserIt's probably got the least views out of any erb past season 1, prob cause anyone outside of north america wouldn't tend to watch it
Manek Iridius look it up you dumb bitch. Rap has more fans than rock music Lmao.
Manek Iridius rock music was popular in the 90’s, no one listens to that shit anymore.
I mean. Wayne is pretty out there in europe but Tony Hawk is known everywhere
An underrated part of this battle that I've only just noticed after watching this 15+ times, is that Tony says" Keep your mittens on Gretzky, you're too clean" and then in Gretzky's verse, he throws his gloves off, the action in hockey that indicates that you are ready to fight. It's also significant because, as Tony already stated, "You're too clean" meaning Gretzky isn't the type to fight. So that Gretzky actually does so in this battle shows that Tony is someone worth fighting. Small detail, but really adds to this battle.
Thanks for pointing that out. I never actually put two and two together.
thank you, i thought noone noticed that
Yes, it's pretty clever, but you need to be a Hockey fan to spot it, I think.
That's pretty clever. Yet most people probably don't realize it.

“You and I have so many world records between us. 184, that’s plenty of ‘em...and I’ve set 183 of them!”
Tony Hawk crumpled under the weight of that flex.
Skateboarding is not recorded as frequently as hokey so that may not be an accurate comparison. Many record-breaking tricks are done on free time and practice runs. With no camera crew or rewards, just for the love of Skateboarding. Though it is a fun line.
It’s over Hanakin I have the High Ground
Shastasnow still there’s no way he’d have anywhere near as many as Gretzky
That single line won him the battle for me.
@@nickdovolos8271 I mean there's no ''near as many'' when there isn't another system to base it on. Gretzky's 183 records are inflated in comparison to Tony Hawk's, simply because his sport actually has all those achievable records. It still isn't accurate.
Tony's second verse ("Great one, Wayne") has such phenomenal camera work. The head tracking camera focus as he rolls through the halfpipes, the missing subtitles on "You ain't one, Wayne" as Tony sticks his head forward, casual clothes thrown off to get into his skate outfit - it reminds me so much of late 90s, early 2000s skater aesthetics. ERB's set design and backgrounds are always so much fun, but I don't think Tony's background could be replicated by anyone who didn't grow up during that time to really appreciate the grunginess of a skater boy aesthetic. I love the rap verses themselves, but the camera work hits in such a nostalgic way that I appreciate it even with the sound off.
Def the weakest verse in the battle though
Gretzky absolutely mauled Tony in this. He came after his bank account, his love life, his achievements, even dissed Tony's skill at his own sport.

No, I’m disappointed that no ones talking about another legend that appeared. Here’s a hit, he’s from the bruins
I was about to comment that. They have a twelfth of the specials budget of major movie companies and they somehow still look better and more realistic than movies.
The heart behind him at 1:10 when he talks about his wife 😭😭 the people who designed this background are so underappreciated
Such a neat detail.
real talk as a black kid who grew up playing THPS and old NHL games and has alot of hiphop/sports knowledge this is lowkey one of the best ERB's lyrically dunno how they still put put content this good after so long.
The flow in this is phenomenal and the lines are tight as hell
@@oz_jones The ending line of Gretsky trails at the final seconds ending his rhyme before the clock hits 0. The depth of the commentary and details is so insane. Easily needs more views then some of their others in my mind.
Hard agreed.
"It's a Street Fight, T Hawk, show some respect"
T. Hawk is a character from Street Fighter
Every time i watch these I realize a new hidden reference, whether from rewatching or from the comments. Thanks!

"It's a street fight T Hawk" i see what you did there.
In my opinion, this is the video that shows how ERB's videos are timeless. almost 5 years later and it still looks amazing and the quality is just as good as modern battles. Most of the rap battles dont run on trends, and it makes them a joy to watch no matter when you are watching it. Thank you, ERB
IMO that only applies from season 2 onwards. Everything since then could have been released today, but season 1 really shows its age, at least to me.
@@jukmifggugghposer I took a look at their line up from back then and...yeah, you're right. I'm glad they corrected course early on though.
@@jukmifggugghposer There's still some stuff that doesn't line up if it were to have been released today. Battles with figures who are still active will obviously not mention those figures' activities that came after the battle released. A great example of this is Trump vs Scrooge. Nobody would ever portray Donald Trump like that today.
This is easily the most underrated ERB. Not only is the beat and flow fantastic, but Peter's Tony Hawk impression is spot on. I don't think it's appreciated because he just looks bored the whole time... But that's sort of just how Tony is? Obviously when he's excited he'll smile, but if Tony was in a rap battle I guarantee this is how he'd look while doing it.
Just watched Tony Hawk's Vogue interview and I fully agree. Even more amazing is that Peter even copied his body language. Tony also seemed to move his hands just like Peter does in this battle. This ERB is sooo underrated...
Yeah I totally agree, someone like Tiger Woods or Tom Brady would also be underwhelming because they are so incredibly focused on the task at hand 90+% of the time that they don't emote until they've won or lost
thanks, now i don't have to write about that, because thats my opinion too^^ This impression is spot on. My favourite part from Tony is "Oiler Alert, you're about to get traded". That sounds soo bored....but it fits perfectly xD Also, the flow never really stops, which is a nice thing too. Its more fast paced than other battles
Oh the mannerisms are so spot on
this battle how some of my favourite editing and visuals
“Keep your mittens on Gretzky they’re too clean” is an amazing line. 1. In hockey you take your gloves off to fight. So he’s saying keep you gloves on you don’t want this smoke. 2. Having “dirty hands” or “dirty mittens “ is saying you have great stick handling skills, so calling somebody’s hands clean is a hockey insult, but then also he’s saying you don’t want to fight and get your hands dirty. Overall just incredible writing
Even more impressive is, when Gretsky tells him to show some respect, he actually flicks his gloves off.
and, the part about, "I'll take a flyer down bird, you're getting wrecked" pretty much blew my mind as well.
Must be a Canadian on the team to come up with those lyrics.
@@Dayvit78 ERB has had deep, multifaceted lines in numerous battles.
@@MaJunior00 oh no doubt. they all seem very well researched.
I love how after Tony says "keep your mittens on Gretzsky, your too clean," Wayne takes his gloves off and they remain off for his entire verse except for when he's holding his stick
"Let me tell you what putting a puck in the *net's worth* ; double what you've banked in bucks, check my *net worth* "
I love lines like these so much, they're just too good.
You know, I watched this battle when it first came out, and I didn't catch that until reading this just now 😂

“184 that’s plenty of them, and I set 183 of them” oof
You can't really come back from a line like that.
Thalanox what it means?
@@xrizbira What is your first language? I'm not sure what you were trying to ask.
Thalanox Japanese, the reference of that quote
xrizbira He’s saying that together they set 184 records, he is responsible for 183 of those records while Tony on set 1
Now that was a wholesome line...
"I taught kids around the world that there's nothing they can't do. (I)put more souls (shoe soles) into skating than some Vans shoes. "
Loved that part!
Gretzky also mentioning "and my hot wife, the only woman in the world for Wayne" is incredibly sweet (and the added swoon Zach does, I love this battle so much 😂)
Gretzky is seriously the GOAT of sports, the guy is so insanely far ahead of everyone in hockey, no one has ever been even close to having as many records in their respective sports as he does. The guy had so many points in his career (goals + assists) that if he never scored a single goal, he would still be top scorer of ALL TIME, merely on points granted by assists, that's absolute insanity.
There's Don Bradman in Cricket though. No one ever came close to touching him just like Gretzky
Yes, but Ovechkin will be passing him in goals in 2 years, which is one of his apparently 'untouchable' records, so nothing's impossible.
Hakuho Sho would be also a Case of GOAT in Sumo

"For true sports fans this was finished as soon as they heard the matchup"

Ya brother. I spent 2 minutes before I even hit play having and argument with no one about that very thing lol.
I'd argue against that line though. Because his biggest claim to fame (being the most dominant person to ever play a sport.) Isn't actually a title he holds. Meanwhile Tony Hawk, as said in the video, blew up skateboarding and extreme sports in general which are rapidly growing globally which would certainly make him more important at the very least historically, as well as probably much more well known to "true sports fans" who don't follow either kind of sport.

Phenomenal comeback by Gretzky. Hawk’s flow was effortless and sharp, and it was outclassing Gretzky’s punny lines. But that last line by Gretzky was straight murder.
I remember when this was new and I watched it with friends saying "Guys, Gretzkys gonna kill Hawk" and between them I was the only one who did sports for most of his life so when that line was dropped I both loved how true it was and my friends appreciated that it was both a solid dig but also accurate since I called it. They initially thought it was just because I had played Hockey and while we agreed Hawk's flow was best and that initial onslaught seemed tough to overcome, Gretzky absolutely dominated in all 3 periods of the rap battle.
Another detail I enjoyed about this particular battle as normally ERB has 2 sets of bars between people and they did 3 instead so it would be more like Hockey. a LOT of detail was put into this battle and its one of the reasons its among my favorites.
@@ajohnymous5699 yeah, but tony hawk wins real life, tony hawk blew up an entire sport, hockey would've still just been hockey with Gretzky, tony hawk blew the lid on what skating was expected to be, for that he takes the win
@@tardnation2670 i mean it’s totally besides the point of the comment, but one could argue that Gretzky did the same. He essentially created a new style of the game with his utilization of speed and size against what was classically a big man’s sport. It gave coaches new ideas and tactics that still heavily affect the game today, years after Gretzky’s retirement. Gretzky also popularized the game in the south. His trade to Los Angeles is regarded as one of if not the biggest trade in sports history and it proved that hockey could be played anywhere in Canada and the United States and be popular. And that line about Gretzky having 183 world records is well founded. Guy came into the league a tiny undrafted child, tore up the sport for 20 years, and left as a god.

@Jon Balyeat I still think it was pretty close
@Jon Balyeat But you're right. Hawk pretty much won this considering I'm an Avalanche fan and not an Oilers fan
No he's smoothed it out with the damn Zamboni

"You've been going downhill since Pro Skater 3"
No amount of ice will help with that burn.
Yeah it's almost like you don't put ice on a burn.
Pro Skate 2 was the best, I never used Tony for the real points though lol
Thats ironic, (you know, Because wayne is a hockey player)
Bobby Orr tho...
Damn that means absolute 0 as well ouch
00:27 the editing in this is amazing
Seriously under-rated ERB. One of their Top 5.

this one does make a lot of sense

“All the ice underneath you will get melted into water when I hit you with a trick that’s even hotter than your daughterrrr” has some great flow
Easilly the most satisfying part to listen to
this is the most underrated ERB ngl
Steve vs Jacques is more underrated, but yeah, Tony vs Wayne is very overlooked and underrated

WHY HAVEN'T THEY DONE USAIN BOLT VS FOREST GUMP????
Conor Brown They should do that!
Conor Brown I read some very dumb suggestions, but this one would actually be great if done right.
Conor Brown interrupted by the flash
Because a better battle would be The Flash vs Quicksilver vs Sonic vs Forest Gump vs Usain Bolt
Usain Bolt vs the Flash?
Reading the comments explaining the lines makes me appreciate the commitment to all erb raps that they have
"But on the microphone I don't play hawkey" He got serious after that. 0:52
I have to admit... I love this one. Not just as a ERB but as a song. Every single verse is perfect.
Next one Chris Jericho vs Conor Mcgregor
If they used another wrestler, it would be John Cena. Maybe against McGregor ou Floyd Mayweather.
Well i chose Jericho for a few reasons
1 Hes my favorite
2 Hes the first Undisputed Champion (2 top tier belts in his industry)
3 Hes really good at both wrestling and talking. And has both a movie and music carrier.
4 As a smaller guy in the WWE his acivements carry in my opinion greater value.
5 He fought both Lesnar and Goldberg in real life and lived to tell about it.
6 Cena can tag in for Jericho as a rapper like Macho Man did for Hogan, but since hes a real rapper it wont be as interesting music wise. While Jerichos rock background would sound more interesting.
I would put the rock in there instead because he is more well known. I would also get the real rock and not an actor or someone else to play him. He has also had all the things you said expect for a music carrier.
TheBrooklynBomb Yes thats true. But i think ERB has proven that even with unknown people from history they can make some fantastic stuff. My only problem with this is that considering the Rocks size and family history he had a leg up in the idustry.
Jericho is more similar to Mcgregor, in that they had to work thair way up from the bottom to reach the top. So no one man has the highgrownd during the battle. The more evenly matched the rappers are the better the songs in my oppinion.
TheBrooklynBomb Or they could have Triple H vs Conan the Barbarian
Hayao Miyazaki vs Walt Disney (time for the latter to get his hands dirty for a change)
This would validate the series' name, because that would definitely be an epic battle if done right.
The Dashboard hell. yes. I'm in
OMG THIS ONE WOULD BE AMAZING
More like "Toei Animation -VS- Disney" !!! krillin vs olaf lol
YES!

"For true sports fans this was finished as soon as they heard the match-up."
That's actually true.
basically. when you talk about the mount rushmore of sports, it's ali, jordan, ruth, and gretzky.
It may be the parting shot, but it didn’t cut deep, it blew straight threw
I literally said psh, let's just see what Tony has to say.
it's totally true, because Tony Hawk isn't even the best skateboarder. Rodney Mullen is.
@@illiji915 it's debatable if ali, jordan, and ruth were the absolute best. why they are the goats are because they are in the argument to be the best AND all of them grew the marketing for their sport to a global level. they weren't only great players, but great spokesmen.
i mean, yeah, tony did meet those the criteria when he was still active, it's just the sport he grew quickly passed him by. even before he hit his prime, he wasn't the center of attention anymore and so many more people were better than him.
How is this the least popular battle?
It’s so good.
TheCliffWall is it?
Skateboarding and Ice Hockey are not such big sports outside North American continent. That's why.
Eddie Newgate or people are idiots
I would have thought caitlyn jenner v bruce banner was least popular
Mason Rowley because the put Bruce Banner/Hulk against Caitlyn Jenner instead of Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde like everyone wanted
" Its a street fight t hawk" line just hit so hard as a street fighter fan,the wordplay, the refrence just fantastic and I am surprised people actually remember the guy

cjua2803 it was the 'of the 184 World Records between us I made 183' line that clinched it for me
cjua2803 Gretzky made the most epic comeback
cjua2803 agreed
Miss ♡Delena♡ Salvatore uhhhhh, no
It’s a lot of one liners in erb that just kills the opponent but Wayne 183 bar, is perhaps the most dangerous rhyme in the history .
Tony Hawk's flow in the 1st verse is so addicting
Especially his line about ice getting melted into water and also his part of dropping into a half pipe

I think he is, he helps them write them. If you go to the description you’ll see credits and he’s in the writer section like every time.
I love him too he does a better Canadian accent than I can and I live in Vancouver 😂

Barry The Bee I back.
With special guest Anne Frank.
I like how Tony Hawk's contributions to the video are "haha funny schnoz" "ur daughter is hot" and really cool edited skate tricks. Then Gretsky claps back with "You're divorced four times, maybe that's why you have half my net worth. You have 1/183rd the penchant for winning world records, and, the final line; 'For true sports fans, this was over when they heard the matchup.' Beaten by a 12 year old kid as a nice sandpapering to the ass as well." The only ERB I can think of more lopsided than this offhand is Thanos V Oppenheimer
This means that you're a true sports fan- for you this was finished as soon as you heard the matchup
As a huge fan of the THPS series, I really liked the backgrounds that they did for Tony. You've got the barren, empty environments from the first two games, the bright purple city skyline representing American Wasteland, and then a few of Kona's ramps from THPS4. Excellent attention to detail!
Such an underrated ERB tbh. The lines, flow, and visuals were SO good.
how do you know it's underrated? by the quantity of views?
Know for a fact this is one of the best ERBs ever made.
One of their top best imo
my favorite and probably the best erb ever made
