This whole OST is musically impressive. Such great compositions. We could not even realize that as children playing a game. We only knew it sounded so damn good.
You don't know how right you are: music from video game soundtracks was my first exposure to music as a little kid and they left such a big unconscious impression on me that I decided to study music composition years later without even realizing what led me to do that, and when I went back to this music on a whim in my 30s I'm realizing with a learned ear just how much real musicality is in a lot of these old soundtracks, and exactly like you said you don't realize that quality as a little kid but it does still have a way of steering you
This soundtrack has the first melodies I ever plucked out on my grandma's piano. It was instrumental (hah!) in my lifelong love of music.

I agree with you, the difference is that I played this game when I was a little kid while my family was making burgers. I tell you that the smoke from the small barbecue is nostalgic along with the game but as I said before I played this when I was little in probably 2004 while you played it way back in the 90's which makes you lucky

I was going through one of the worst times of my life as a kid when this came out, and these games, specifically DKC2, did some extreme heavy lifting. Whenever this music was on, it meant I was in a good, safe place for at least a little while 🖤

Stickerbrush Symphony just hits different. I used to go into the secret menu to play the music, and this is one I would leave on when studying or cleaning my room. It just made my brain happy. Same with Forest Interlude.

Forest Interlude and Stickerbrush Symphony are the best. The entire soundtrack is great, but those two tracks tap into a level of nostalgia that make me tear up when I hear them

Hot-Head Bop is on constant repeat for me, I think it was my favourite level as a kid because it was my fav soundtrack

I listen to this soundtrack sometimes at work. A couple of guys my age know it when they hear it. Those guys are my kind of family.

Disco Train discussion and debate, however, is relegated to unsyndicated weekly radio shows, online-organized meetups, and, if you'll excuse me, the annals of history.
There is just no comparing the impact of these two tracks in the popular conscious.
An amazing SNES trilogy... I dare say, DK 2 is my favorite of the 3. This sequel delivered back in the day and still does!
2 is definitely the best, one is really good, and 3 is alright, but 2 is a masterpiece

I'm 40 and still play it 😄 i bought the snes when it came with dkc, and really liked that game. I rented dkc 2 at the local video store and was amazed. I regret not buying that soundtrack cd when i had the chance.
forest interlude is such a peaceful little mystery and that's why it's my favorite
however, crocodile cacophony is a close second
for me this is one of the best games of all time. Great music, fun levels, simple gameplay that anyone can pick up, memorable bosses, varied worlds that give you a sense of progress as you can see the island as you reach the top, secrets, no needless backtracking, a hidden world with hard levels and a climactic final boss. This game has it all
46:52 Krook’s March is my favorite. Dig that regal castle music and the rising floor game play. Pressure and epic music combined to make one fun experience. One of the best games ever created. Thank you David Wise

I still have the Original Soundtrack CD in perfect condition still. I begged my mom to buy it for me when I was a kid. I made her listen to the Brambles and said, see, its relaxing! Truly maybe the best game on the SNES and the Best Soundtrack for an SNES game. I know, Chrono Trigger is king, but its close.

This brings me such good memories. I used to play DK2 with my siblings. Unfortunately, they left this world, but I'll always remember them through this game and the songs, they hold a very special place in my heart. If I ever have kids, I'll definetly pass on the tradition to play the Donkey Kong trilogy with them, and tell them their uncle and aunt have taught me to love this game.
Easily the best soundtrack of any game ever. Nothing even comes close. Literally every moment of every damn song is great.
I am a big Final Fantasy fan and I love Nobuo's work on the franchise, but David Wise did such a masterful job in these games that I can agree with you.
Not to contradict you, but Super Metroid exists, that's all I'm sayin here.
Lockjaw's Saga is just amazing, just like the entire DKC2 soundtrack. David Wise is a legend!

Remembering getting a SNES in high school from a friend and getting this game along with it, my first Donkey Kong Country game. Jib Jig and Mining Melancholy were some of my favorite tracks growing up...both feeling chill and fun to listen too.
The best DKC in the trilogy. even though the first is my favorite. The game and the music still stands out over two decades later!
Anytime I hear SNES Donkey Kong tracks, I'm immediately taken back to my childhood in the 90's. Miss those days.
So many bangers, over the 3 games all top notch. Just amazing on a game console meant for children using MIDI synths and 6 channels lol. Absolutely amazing.

Im honestly crying tears of joy going through this whole soundtrack.
It was the best moment of my childhood playing with my mom and dad whenever they were still together.
And to this day every now and then I'll play DKC2 and have my mom "come check this out real quick" and we'll sit there and take turns and play for hours or at least until her thumbs hurt cus for some reason she believes"the harder I press the higher I'll jump/ run faster".
I was 5 years old when I first played this.
I am 25 with 2 kid's and eagerly awaiting to show them the beauty and wonder that DKC2 has to offer and hope it blows their lil minds and fills them with the Wonder,beauty,joy,dauntless obsticals and pure gold that the world of DKC has to offer.
I'm excited to come back full circle and pass on this game and keep it going for them.
When it comes to video games this is without a doubt one of the best soundtracks out there for video game in my opinion they didn't have to use words or anything and it was still incredible and awesome this is one of the reasons why I love the 16-bit error when it comes to retro gaming that was probably my favorite one it was just so good on so many different levels. Best thing I liked about 16-bit games I would definitely have to say they're probably some of the funnest and coolest ones and they don't look half bad but at the same time compared to games nowadays they might look more realistic but at the same time this time should not look like video games anymore
The Enchanted forest music is so damn underrated. The best in my opinion. But it's always been overshadowed by Stickerbush symphony
TD Dexter its actually David Wise's favorite of all his creations. If you watch a few DKC best song ranks it usually beats Stickerbrush Symphony for the #1 spot.

I am still so stunned how some of those songs were able to produce so much feels. I mean ... Hot-Head Bop ... sounds like an exciting song first, but all those little notes in the back and the actual music ... it makes me FEEL and wow!! I was always listening to the Brambles or Ice or Forest level soundtracks for hours on end!

Stickerbrush Symphony always gets me feeling so many different ways. I like to listen to it when it rains.
I remember playing this game with my brother back when we were kids, I didn't get very far naturally, but my brother sure did :)
This game has souch creativity and content. These days, they'd break it all up into DLC, seasons, add-ons, and skins.
$2 a level and another $1 to turn on music.
Very few games have soul and passion put into them these days, it's honestly sad.
Listened to the whole soundtrack while playing minecraft, mining melancholy sounds so perfect!
DKC2 is probably the best video game music ever created. Such nostalgia comes through me when I listen to this soundtrack. Its like I time travel back to my childhood. Still play the DKC series to this day! Such beautiful music! Fun fact: David Wise wanted to use Stickerbrush Symphony for the underwater levels but chose not to at the last second. I'm happy he did.
You’re lucky you still have a snes to play the dkc series. I traded mine and all dkc games in for store credit to get a n64. I wish I had never done that because this is my favorite game series ever.
@@locomojoboy2 Yeah I would regret that too. I have an n64 hooked up along with my snes. Play both quite often. Have PS4 but I'm old school so I prefer my older systems. I dont know what I'd do without the DKC games. They are part of me for sure.

The harkening back to Aquatic but jungle style in Primal Rave is still the absolute peak of DKC music for me. The whole track embodies the idea of a lost world almost unimaginably well. Only almost unimaginable because Mr. Wise indeed managed to imagine it. It speaks to the spirit of a lost world, the basin of life, and calls it forth.
Disco Train is another one of my favorites.

I can't even tell you how much fun I've had playing this game as a kid and an adult. The music does such an amazing job of putting you into the hearts of these adorable little monkeys through out the game. All the fear, courage, urgency, playfulness, wonder and solace.
It's hands down one of the greatest games / OST's ever created.

I like how Sonic and Donkey Kong incorporated a lot of hip hop themes and songs that were really bass driven. It makes them so tasty.
Ahh yes those days were magical ...but very hard to beat certain stages...i remember getting mad and throwing my controller around the room and crying cause I could not beat the hard stages. We played till 2 am everyday almost just trying to progress in the game...yeah ill always remember that feeling of being stressed as kid because of this game...it was worth it lol

I noticed way back when I was a teen that few of the tracks clearly have a Phil Collins influence. (Swamp theme [in the air] and the Ice Theme [take me home] come to mind) The composer has since confirmed that there was indeed a bit of an influence there.
I knew I noticed that! I hear it strongly with In the Air, but you have to listen kinda close to get the Take Me Home reference.

Forest Interlude is So Underrated in this soundtrack
Forest Interlude feels like something you’d hear in a dark, bittersweet adventure movie like Brave Little Toaster. Yeah, things are dark and sad right now, but don’t give up, you’ll make it to the end and the sunshine that’s barely peeking through the trees now.
I actually prefer this to the "restored" version. It has a cleaner sound, but for some reasons this one sounds better. The effects (like stereo, delay and reverb) are deeper, and all the instruments sound quite clear, while in the restored version the volume varies a lot, making some instruments almost inaudible. The samples differ a lot in quality, but in the original they all sound about the same due to the compression. There's also a few things missing or different, and some samples are definitely not the originals. It's still quite impressive and a lot of work went into it, so I respect it, but I think the original is better.
So restored? Rather facked up attempt version you're talking about then.... :)
@@pintvdkint2515 I wouldn't say that it was a fucked up attempt, but an unnecessary one. The soundtrack is fine as it is, and it's impressive to this day considering the hardware limitations. It didn't need any improvements, so they ended up butchering it by trying to improve it. Remixes and arrangements don't count since they are altering the music more directly and dramatically, instead of a simple "remaster".
