Andrew has entered full fan mode! I am living in full fan mode! I have always loved this pistol, anybody that does not love this pistol is a communist!
My dad still has one of the original guns... have shot it many times throughout my childhood. Still love it when he breaks it out.. which is less often considering it's value these days. Sometimes she would jam..but still an awesome weapon!
AndyCinDallas good for you, that is excellent. There is nothing out there like this pistol, nothing. I am sure you will enjoy shooting it. The 8" Barrel should help take recoil as well.
All of my adult life I have wanted this pistol, even though it has been eclipsed in recent decades. One thing about the AutoMag (historically) was that it didn't function reliably. We need a range review or ten. Please give us some notice when you can get to this!
Several years ago I acquired a 44 Auto Mag, a want from the 70's. I shoot it at the range sparingly. I often let some of my best friends shoot it. Many of them don't know what it is. They often think it's a Wildey. I initially made 100 rounds of brass. A couple of years ago I was able to buy 200 rounds of 44 brass from Star Brass. My favorite time was when I shot a 1700 lb buffalo in S Dakota. An all day hunt which I got within 35 yards of the herd several times but couldn't get a good shot. Finally nailed it with a good heart lung shot that completely passed thru the animal. Did a quick follow up shot to the ear. 265 gr hornady HP with 22.5 gr Win 296. I'll shot it more now that parts are available again.
Bought an original 44 back in76 from Lee Juries the God father of the Automag for $288. I loved that gun even though it had a lot of problems with the small springs in the lower end hope they fixed that problem. I loved to build block wall and blow them to dust the power was unreal at that time. Good luck bringing them back might have to get another one.
Glad to see Larry is still involved, since he was there from almost the beginning. On another note, kind of sad how the original designer/creator Max Gera (who is still alive) got swept away by Harry Sanford at the first smell of money. Thanks Max, this cool looking piece wouldn't be here today if it were not for you. Also thanks to Brian Maynard for keeping it alive during all those years of unavailability and creation of the Baby Auto Mag.
"Well this is the 44 magnum auto mag and holds a 300 grain cartridge and if use properly it can remove the finger prints" Clint Eastwood 1983 movie Sudden Impact. Love the movie love the gun even more.
uncle chaos brother, you are preaching to the choir. at one of these shows i attended once, i had to call security to confiscate one of those youtubers phones for recording me without my permission while i was conducting a legitimate transaction.
Cut down .308 or 30-06 shell loaded with .44 caliber 200+ grain projectile fired from a hand cannon. What's not to love. Port the barrel and make an extended mag, most importantly GET THE AMMO COSTS DOWN.
Factory ammo is about a buck a round (just like .44 Mag) from SBR and one can always reload ammo like I do. I have the dies and the cases, so yes, there's a choice.
Yep - I remember when only Norma and some Mexican outfit made the only ammo around; shit was pricey AF, so I know what you mean. I wouldn't have been interested in buying an AM unless there were reasonable options for ammo. www.sbrammunition.com/44am.html and www.midwayusa.com/product/1019156044/sbr-ammunition-44-auto-mag-amp-240-grain-hornady-xtp-box-of-50
Still remember the auto mag on miami vice. Always thought they were made by AMT along with numerous other odd guns like the .30 carbine pistol from AMT. Who knows.
Gus Porterhouse That's cool, people are driving around in $50,000 cars. A couple of $2000 revolvers, and a $25,000 carbine will at least make them seem somewhat rational.
.45 WinMag is a great cartridge honestly, it's perfect for Magnum autos. You can also use just whatever 230gr projectile intended for .45ACP It's also in the same neighborhood as .44 Magnum and .44 AMP, so you get similar performance, it's a practical choice.
@@N2RI1 Rimmed cartridges can be pretty bothersome for automatic actions, especially if the magazine has to fit inside the grip of the gun. Making the cartridge rimless makes the design of the gun and the magazine MUCH easier.
Clint Eastwood is yelling at his assistant to get one for his next Dirty Harry movie... All joking aside, this would be a pistol to turn folks green with during the next range trip!
I think one of the reasons the AMC Auto Mag endured in people's minds is that it's not just a cool gun on the conceptual level, the gun just looks incredibly badass superficially. Like the Desert Eagle, it's a cool gun perfect to put into movies, comics, and video games.
Don't forget this gun was also an important plot point in Beverly Hills Cop 2 because of the unavailability of .44 AMP, the cutting down of .308 Winchester cases to make the ammo makes the gun the initial point that points the main characters in the right direction.
Taylor77 I think someone tried it. No major manufacturer has though. I've heard of one prototype AR upper in .44 Magnum. I don't know if its gotten past that stage.
Is that regular 44 Mag, or the 44 Automag round? I'm guessing it's the AutoMag round, since it will also be available in 45 Win Mag. Much easier to design an auto for rimless cartridges. I would lean toward the 45 Win Mag, because of factory ammo availability. Don't hsve my reloading stuff set up yet, an making 44 AMP cartridge cases is something of a chore. Academic anyway, since i won't be able to get one here in Kalifornia- no mag disconnect or loaded chamber indicator. Good to see it come back though
Well, this is the .44 Magnum Automag, and if properly used can remove the fingerprints! I remember going to a gun store after Sudden Impact came out, and the .357 Magnum Automag was in the case, it’s nickel finish shining majestically.
A dream come true! I have always wanted one since I saw it in the Dirty Harry movies way back when. Time to start saving my money and convincing my wife why I need one.
thats opinion only, besides DE grip being like holding a 2x4 it at least uses readily available Ammo and also has a cool factor. I am a big man with big hands and love both Big Bore and 22cal Pistols for different uses. but I have held Automag and DE and the Automag is way easier to get a good grip on as its not a huge square block like DE. I always wanted both guns since made but for that kind of money I have minimum expectations and comfortable holding and Ammo I can find long after the Gun stops being produced are like number 1 & 2 on that list. hence I dont own either Gun still.
The Desert Eagle has some drawbacks and quirks, but it has some advantages too. Sure, it's picky with ammo, and it requires you have a perfect shooting stance, but the gun also has crazy soft recoil (the .44 can be compared in felt recoil to a 1911), and it's precise as a laser. .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum ammunition is also cheaper on average, and if you handload you can actually shoot the gun for fairly low costs.
Normally I would agree with you there on the Holy 1cm cartridge but for this it feels like it would be too small. A 44AMP blows the 1cm out of the water in every way.
I have always been fascinated with the 44 Automag since I was a kid and saw Sudden Impact. They will probably be out of my price range but I would love to have one.
It needs a flashlight under mount, flared mag well for speed reloads, triji sights to shoot things at night, threaded end for muzzle breaks/suppressors, diff grips so I can look cool & diff on the range, & make a short 3 inch version so it can be my EDC
Hopefully this one is more reliable than the original. Clint's Automag jammed so frequently, he was constantly throwing it in the water and they had to have a dive master on permanent call to go get it whenever he did.
I love the Excell Arms 44 magnum and the Ruger Mark IV 22 They both have that cool German Luger look. Hey my Glock 34 9mm & all the 1911 type pistols work great but they don't have the looks of these Luger type gems.
For clarification... He said it was chambered in .44 Magnum. Have they revamped this to take the .44 Remington Magnum with the rimmed cartridge, or is it actually still chambered for the proprietary .44 Automag cartridge? (My concern, of course, is that factory Automag cartridges are about as common as hen's teeth... and paying $5 a round really sucks the fun out of shooting it.)
Excell Arms, if this gun passes muster and proves to be reliable; I will gladly support your revival of this iconic firearm with my payment of two grand. You do your part; and I will do mine.
ApurtureSci that's some expensive manufacturing. Back then a m14 could be bought for a 100 bucks. The rocket pistol prototype cost 150 bucks to make the first three.
not in the mid 70s, Mustangs were higher and so was the Automag at $600. I priced them through my Grandfathers Gun dealership he owned. in the 80s when discontinued prices for 2nd had Automags hit $1,500 and climbing til Ammo got like Hens teeth. for the price this company wants you could buy 2 Desert Eagles
N2RI1 1969-1971 Mach 1 cost 3800 to 3600 starting. 1971-1973 was about the same for the Mach. My slip for the 1969 to 1971 convertible mustang gt was 2,585. The mustang 2 which was a pos was how much? For the cobra two not a base model was 4K. Double the base mustang. Now. My family owned a gun store in east la in 1968. First guns delivered in 1971. Cost slip was 217.00. That included delivery. The three my dad sold he sold for 225.00 each.
yep mustangs were NOT 2500 in the 70s like I said. and 74 is when Automag changed owners so prices went up each time. they had ads in magazines in mid 70s stating $600 also
they originally said they had? to use rimless ammo to feed. then how did they use 357, 45mag and even 22 versions? and Desert Egale uses both style rimmed Ammo just fine
N2RI1 yeah but it still would be nice for hunting. I usually don’t wear ear protection when hunting because I spot and stalk, and hearing is a big part of stealth and locating animals
Will it shoot regular 44 mag ammo? If it wont shoot std 44 mag ammo good luck on finding ammo or just finding brass youll have to make your own there 308 cases cut down
Harry Sanford of amt designed this for shooting plate steel targets .he was a great gun maker very innovative from the beginning he built the first 1911 in stainless the hardballer. these were some very awesome guns just not available .it sucks its been almost forty years to bring this to market .I hope harry is watching with a smile .they were made in 44 and 357 automag chamberings theses rounds were factory loaded originally by Norma .besides that you have to handload them .not to be confused with 44 magnum and 357 revolver rounds they aren't the same
Andrew has entered full fan mode! I am living in full fan mode! I have always loved this pistol, anybody that does not love this pistol is a communist!
Nailed it.
What makes you think communists don't love it?
King Baldwin IV damn commies
Communists can't love something so wonderfully American. They would burst into flames upon touching it.
I'm a communist and I love this. X-D
Well, this is the .44 Magnum Auto-Mag and it hold a 300-grain cartridge. And, if properly used, it can remove the fingerprints.
never used that heavy of bullet
I have wanted one of these ever since I read "The Executioner" books by Don Pendleton. His lead character, Mack Bolan, carried one.
The gun you want when your facing an coked up evil villain with a pencil mustache and pump action shotgun
I hope this pistol is really successful and never goes away again
My dad still has one of the original guns... have shot it many times throughout my childhood. Still love it when he breaks it out.. which is less often considering it's value these days. Sometimes she would jam..but still an awesome weapon!
I'm getting one of the 8.5" Founders' Editions - this has been my bucket-list pistol since I was 12 years old and I could finally afford one.
AndyCinDallas good for you, that is excellent. There is nothing out there like this pistol, nothing. I am sure you will enjoy shooting it. The 8" Barrel should help take recoil as well.
Thank you, Tommy - it's going to be a pretty unique piece for sure and I think I'm darned fortunate :)
All of my adult life I have wanted this pistol, even though it has been eclipsed in recent decades. One thing about the AutoMag (historically) was that it didn't function reliably. We need a range review or ten. Please give us some notice when you can get to this!
I hope to get one in my hot little hands soon.
There is a vid out there of the first guy to shoot a Founder's Edition but it's only 5 shots.
Don’t hold your breath….Excel Arms is big joke of a company that puts out some real crap.
Several years ago I acquired a 44 Auto Mag, a want from the 70's. I shoot it at the range sparingly. I often let some of my best friends shoot it. Many of them don't know what it is. This is one of the few automatic pistols I desperately want... man it's beautiful
I've wanted one for decades - now I'm finally getting one in a few weeks.
AndyCinDallas Congrats! hope you can find a good supply of .44 automag ammo or reloading supplies.
What barrel length?
The 44 Auto mag, the badass gun that's been living in the desert eagle's shadow finally makes a return.
Back in the late 80's- early 90's I saw one for sale at the local gun shop for $1500.00!!
Yeah, me too, but didn't have the cash for it. I still don't have the cash for it, but I can load for it.
For those of you asking, MSRP will be around $3500 according to their website
I looked at excels website and didn't see anything listed, am I missing something???
i don't care how much it is, i want one
automag.com
Thanks Andy...
Deíshell fuck that! 200 is fair if you have to order all your ammo online.
"Well this is the 44 magnum auto mag and holds a 300 grain cartridge and if use properly it can remove the finger prints" Clint Eastwood 1983 movie Sudden Impact. Love the movie love the gun even more.
Honestly this is probably my favorite thing from shot show so far
Love the gap-mouthed goofball @ 2:48 walking into the shot at one point, clueless as to the filming going on RIGHT in front of him
Don't be mean
His jaw dropped at the sight
So the whole shot show 2018 is supposed to stop because some guy is making a youtube video?
Alfonse Dente all these youtubers make attending shot show as a legitimate dealer a nightmare
uncle chaos brother, you are preaching to the choir.
at one of these shows i attended once, i had to call security to confiscate one of those youtubers phones for recording me without my permission while i was conducting a legitimate transaction.

One word - reload.
You don't have s choice currently unless you want a mag dump to cost the same as a mortgage payment.
Factory ammo is about a buck a round (just like .44 Mag) from SBR and one can always reload ammo like I do. I have the dies and the cases, so yes, there's a choice.
That changed very recently then.

@2:48 Chaka from S&MK's Land of the Lost. He's all grown up now.
I feel like the official tag line of SHOT 2018 is "It Costs $2000"
Gus Porterhouse That's cool, people are driving around in $50,000 cars. A couple of $2000 revolvers, and a $25,000 carbine will at least make them seem somewhat rational.
Try 4...
Gus Porterhouse one would think with Obama gtfo of here guns n ammo would of lowered, nooooooo. WTF
that $2,000 will make a good half down deposit when ordering
Lol try $3500
Finally a gun that can remove fingerprints
Death wish3
If used correctly this can remove the fingerprints. Dirty Harry "Sudden Impact".
.45 WM??????? Now I don't feel like a tool for having a whole bunch of .45WM loading gear!
why can they use that but not tru 44mag with rim?
The OG .44 Automag used cut down 308 brass. No rim.
.45 WinMag is a great cartridge honestly, it's perfect for Magnum autos. You can also use just whatever 230gr projectile intended for .45ACP

5-axis machining saves set ups....that bloke was the man who machined the original parts. Respect.
I've always wanted one of these since I was a kid 😍
The resurrection of .44 Automag.
I think one of the reasons the AMC Auto Mag endured in people's minds is that it's not just a cool gun on the conceptual level, the gun just looks incredibly badass superficially. Like the Desert Eagle, it's a cool gun perfect to put into movies, comics, and video games.

Are you freakin kidding me!! This is making a come back? This was my all time dream pistol when I saw Dirty Harry use it.
I always thought somebody should make a good .44 mag auto carbine
Taylor77 Ruger.
TFB TV yea, but i want one with a high capacity detachable Magazine. Anybody make a .44 AR??
Taylor77 That would be cool, but I'm sure you are aware of the problems with rimmed cartridges in magazines.
TFB TV 44 Automag isn’t a rimmed cartridge. It’s made from a cut down .308.
Taylor77 I think someone tried it. No major manufacturer has though. I've heard of one prototype AR upper in .44 Magnum. I don't know if its gotten past that stage.

I had a 68 Automag Paintball gun in 1992. Awesome design!
They laugh, but I carried a .44 mag with a 7.5" barrel before inside the waste band and a cop friend of mine didn't spot it.
The look the guy gives at 2:51 is classic.
*Patrolling the Mojave intensifies*
Was this gun in New Vegas?
elcidS15 his shirt
Tyler Mcintyre Ah okay. Didn’t notice that.
Ave, true to Kaisar
Beautiful gun. That is a huge round to get out and chambered.
Awesome!!
A good one in .357 for a shoulder holster carry and a back scoped open w a Burris fast fire
I would like to see it in .50AE . that would be cool.
Well, this is the .44 Magnum Automag, and if properly used can remove the fingerprints!
I remember going to a gun store after Sudden Impact came out, and the .357 Magnum Automag was in the case, it’s nickel finish shining majestically.
44 Automag = 💦💦💦
Gavin Reddig I had know idea these existed until today seems to be one hell of a cool gun
A dream come true! I have always wanted one since I saw it in the Dirty Harry movies way back when. Time to start saving my money and convincing my wife why I need one.
Lol shit good luck man.
the AutoMag is better then the desert eagle :P
A Liberator is better then the Dessert Eagle...
thats opinion only, besides DE grip being like holding a 2x4 it at least uses readily available Ammo and also has a cool factor. 黒のリブレスモデル(5:18)のオートマグが気になります。(日本語で失礼します)
S&W 500 classic, desert eagle 50ae cool, 44 auto mag sexy. It was way ahead of its time now it's time has come.
What a gun friendly state to move the factory to? How much?
Oh hell yeah. Ive wanted to shoot one of these since I saw "A Low Down Dirty Shame"! Very cool!
I'm not sure I could have just stood there while the old guy pointed a .44 automag at my mustache.
I was nervous the whole video.
The Automag is such a beautiful classic. I love it........ by the way..... MAKE MY DAY 😎
Is it really the auto mag? Like, 308 brass? Mack Bolan and Charles Bronson would be proud!
Bronson didn't use one, but yeah - Mack Bolan, .308/.30-06/.270 brass, etc, etc.
Make a 10mm model 👍🏿
Normally I would agree with you there on the Holy 1cm cartridge but for this it feels like it would be too small. A 44AMP blows the 1cm out of the water in every way.
yep its a mag gun not a CCW low power type.
I'd like to inform you all fine gentlemen that there is in fact a 10mm Magnum cartridge, which was designed for Magnum automatics like these.
I want a 4 inch barrel one with dark wooden grip, and in a slightly shiny black finish
I have always been fascinated with the 44 Automag since I was a kid and saw Sudden Impact. They will probably be out of my price range but I would love to have one.
It needs a flashlight under mount, flared mag well for speed reloads, triji sights to shoot things at night, threaded end for muzzle breaks/suppressors, diff grips so I can look cool & diff on the range, & make a short 3 inch version so it can be my EDC
love that pistol, imo what I think would be cool is one pistol frame lower and multiple caliber options..
Hopefully this one is more reliable than the original. Clint's Automag jammed so frequently, he was constantly throwing it in the water and they had to have a dive master on permanent call to go get it whenever he did.
So.. when are we going to get a 454 automag, and one that looks good? This is a good step in the right direction.
Looks like an lcp and Buck Mark camper crossbred and made that awesome gun.
AUTOMAG! AUTOMAG! AUTOMAG! I have always wanted one of these!
I'd love to have one of these..hell yea..
This is not shown on their website..discontinued??
The automag is back, so cool.
(My concern, of course, is that factory Automag cartridges are about as common as hen's teeth... and paying $5 a round really sucks the fun out of shooting it.)
one important Question since they own amp now are they going to produce rounds for the original .44 amp ??
Damn Andrew must be my sould mate. That beard, fallout tshirt, loving the automag and guns in general :D
When will this be available?
Did they fix the jamming problem?
But what is their price?
Well, if it’s anything like the MP-22 and MP-5.7, I would say anywhere between $600 and $800.
A LOT, but I bet not as much as some fail-factory Nighthawk 1911.
$3,495 for the 6.5" Classic Edition.
and up
Excell Arms, if this gun passes muster and proves to be reliable; I will gladly support your revival of this iconic firearm with my payment of two grand. You do your part; and I will do mine.
200 bucks was not cheap back then. Could buy a mustang v8 for 2500
david sanchez Perhaps that was cheap in relation to how much they cost to manufacture.
ApurtureSci that's some expensive manufacturing. Back then a m14 could be bought for a 100 bucks. The rocket pistol prototype cost 150 bucks to make the first three.

Not sure what I love more, the .44, or the Fallout shirt. Both are so wicked. :)
Good find guys!
This man can stay. Love the shirt. Now msrp is the real question.
How much
oh no
oh yeah!
koolaidman.jpg
So this will be in plain .44 magnum, not .44 AMP right?!
I'm confused cause the stand reads AMP.
A thing of beauty❤
What a cool looking gun. But what's the price!!!
Hot Coldman $3500
holy crap that more then I payed for my car
they originally said they had? to use rimless ammo to feed. then how did they use 357, 45mag and even 22 versions? and Desert Egale uses both style rimmed Ammo just fine
Do they make one with a threaded barrel? Would be nice to have the option of suppressing it
ROFLMAO Suppressor would look like ya screwed a summer sausage on end of barrel and still be loud as a 45 ACP
N2RI1 yeah but it still would be nice for hunting. I usually don’t wear ear protection when hunting because I spot and stalk, and hearing is a big part of stealth and locating animals
most states in the US including mine its illegal to hunt anything with one or lasers or night vision
N2RI1 I live in Texas so that’s not an issue here. Sorry to hear that your State is so restrictive
Ill buy a Desert Eagle. And have barrels for 44 & 50ae off the shelf ammo. Why dont you make the P08/Luger again instead of this?
Is the gun gunna be chambered in 44 magnum or 44 amp?
Will it shoot regular 44 mag ammo? If it wont shoot std 44 mag ammo good luck on finding ammo or just finding brass youll have to make your own there 308 cases cut down
*PUTTING FIRE DOWN RANGE!!* *IF YOU'RE A HUNTER, OF SORTS, THE .44 AUTO MAG, WITH TONS OF EXPERIENCE WILL SERVE YOU VERY WELL!!*
GRAMPS PIMPIN THE FLAT BRIM HAT
scamp 900 He's like a Jessie James senior
“PIMPIN AIN’T EASY” LMAO
Harry Sanford of amt designed this for shooting plate steel targets .he was a great gun maker very innovative from the beginning he built the first 1911 in stainless the hardballer. these were some very awesome guns just not available .it sucks its been almost forty years to bring this to market .I hope harry is watching with a smile .they were made in 44 and 357 automag chamberings theses rounds were factory loaded originally by Norma .besides that you have to handload them .not to be confused with 44 magnum and 357 revolver rounds they aren't the same
Please point the muzzle in a safe direction. Love the .44 automag !!
