    Although I appreciate the intent and the effort that went into this, there are some definite problems here. The Y-wing was not smaller than the X-wing, which is obvious by just watching the movie. The walker is also way too small in its comparison with these ships. Remember, it crushed a snowspeeder underfoot, and although X- and Y-wings are larger, it definitely could have crushed them too.

      @The_Lunch_Man 8 лет назад +36

      Kartissa I've already determined this comparison video is very incorrect with the sizes. I know the interdictor wasn't that big because the empire specifically created the interdictor star destroyer to compensate for the smaller and more vulnerable interdictor cruiser.

    • @Kartissa
      @Kartissa 8 лет назад +37

      1M0RTAL_CH1CKEN There are 2 sizes of Imperial ship capable of projecting gravity wells to pull ships out of hyperspace. The one depicted is clearly the Kuat Drive Yards Interdictor, which *is* the same size as an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer.
      I think the confusion comes from the fact that 'Interdictor' is a role, rather than a ship class. *Any* ship can be called an Interdictor if it can pull other ships out of hyperspace.

    Ive seen the movies a million times, and I always assumed the Death Stars were about equally sized.
    It does makes sense that the 2nd one was a bit bigger though.
    But 900 km in diameter? Doesnt seem right.
    Maths isnt my top subject, but thats gotta be at least 200 times the volume of the first death star.. and it took them something like 15 years to comstruct the first one, right?
    Other commentors say its supposed to be 160km, and that seems a lot more feasible to me.

      Seems to be a point of contention, 180-200km have been quoted in canon but so has 900km. 180 seems more realistic based on the time spent obviously, but 900km lines up better with what is actually seen in the movie, such as when the executor crashes into the DSII. I would be more likely to accept 900km but it's the minority opinion.

      Its pretty dumb. Wars are won by strategic use of limited resources. The resources invested into making that large of a ship like the Death Start II could have built millions upon millions of Tie Fighter advanced ships that could have swarmed the rebel fleets to pieces and taken out every X-wing and Y-wing they had leaving them defenseless. Star Wars isn't really supposed to make sense, you're just supposed to take away that the white male patriarchy is bad and the PoC matriarchy is good.

    Which surprises me is not that the 2nd death star was larger (which alone is a difference between the first and the reason they went with it) but the fact the thing was operation just 1 movie after the first one was destroyed.
    First Death star was much smaller, in planning since before the Clone Wars in Episode II and yet it only became operational during Episode IV.
    maybe the emperor just decided to go with an skeleton functional structure instead.

    Man the "debates" over the 2nd Death Star's size are so repetitive it's surreal. I don't know if anyone will ever see this, but hopefully this comment clears it up.
    In the Legends/Pre-Disney canon, most sources referred to DSII's size as 160 km. Some sources, such as the Complete Locations book and certain comments from people who worked on the film suggest 900 km. The 900 km was probably the size used in the production,which is implied by certain visuals (e.g. the station being roughly 1/10th the diameter of Endor, a moon that appears to be terrestrial in size as well as its curvature being barely noticeable when the Executor crashes into it). Similar controversies surrounded the size of DSI, with 160 km initially appearing in many sources but eventually formally superseded by 120 km.
    Disney canon sources use 200 km for DSII and 160 km for DSI.
    Really all of this falls to which canon and which source you prefer.

    The XWing and TIE Fighter series of games had Interdictors portrayed as much smaller than that, closer to Victory Class size. That always felt more appropriate to me. The Armada tabletop game, however, has them at the larger size. And I was always under the impression that Death Star 2 was only about 25% larger than the first one.

  • @retluoc
    @retluoc 2 года назад +1

    I'm a few years late, but I had no idea how much bigger the second death star was compared to the first. I assumed it was 50% bigger, but holy crap, it looks like it's at least 7x the size of the first. No wonder they had so much trouble completing it on time 😆
    I read that the first one took 20 years to complete, then they learned from their mistakes and the second one would have only taken 7 years. When Jedi was launched, it was about 5 years in...two more and it would have been unstoppable.
