Bought my 2001 back in June 2001, first VTEC was 599 miles on the odo at the first S2000 meet in VA, ran it hard daily for 10 years almost bone stock except for Spoon's exhaust and flywheel, got almost 100,000 miles on it, zero problem with the motor and drive train. This video brought back a lot of great memories, thank you.
The car will pick up surface rust if you live near the coast. If you drive your car on roads with salt on them, like in the UK, the fenders may start corroding. They do hold up better to corrosion vs the other Hondas from the same period.
Check engine light was on because of an emissions error code, caused by running a US spec ecu on a Euro spec car. The emissions setting had to be turned off on the flashpro. Guys on here acting like the car gonna explode 😂
Not at all man, I bought my self a 2024 toyota corolla 2.0 with a cvt and man I'm not looking back. Not only does the corolla shift itself, it also sounds a heck of a lot better, is way more comfortable, rides and handles better than the S2000 could ever dream of AND its way more reliable. Those pesky S2000s just love to spin those rod bearings at high rpms. They suffer from oil starvation when you're pulling high G's in the tight corners...
Did you just compare a Corolla to an S2000 😧 a 2024 family sedan is more comfortable than a 2 seater sports car that came out in 1999, who would have guessed 🙄 btw, how many hp does your corolla make?
@@Key-z2x So you bought a base engine, cvt, fwd Corolla and are trying to convince yourself it's more than just a basic commuter car? Lol, the new generation Corollas are less than reliable by Toyota standards too. In what universe is a Corolla in the same conversation as an S2000? The only thing they have in common is the 4 cylinder engine.
Check engine light was caused by an emissions error code due to running a US spec ecu in a Euro spec car. The emission control had to be turned off on the flashpro. Problem solved.
@chucks_garage987 yea i own a monte carlo blue 2.4l stroked 2003 eu spec AP1 which is barely still road legal in germany but built for the track. actually one of only a handful in germany with the cr wing legally in the papers. this engine should not sound as choppy at all, especially not in higher rpms! is it still doing that? stock ecu?
Sorry for the rude response. A lot of people who don't know about the car comment stupid stuff here. I'm running Hondata flashpro with bolt ons. I was not happy with the tune on the car, which I had when I did the video - car was running too rich. I changed my tuner and got Jeff Evans (Evans tuning) to tune my car. He's regarded as one of the best in the world with Honda's. I'm happy with how my car runs now, sounds much better and smoother. You can see on a newer video I did to see how it sounds. Your car must be amazing to drive with the larger displacement. I owned 2 stock k24 Honda Accords, and the midrange was a lot stronger than my tuned s2000.
@@chucks_garage987 ah no worries i've been around the webs for a day or two. Yup it feels like a proper sized engine for the S2000 but due to the longer stroke it's redlining at 7500 and cuts out at 8000 - still nice for a street car but the myth is kind of gone. i'm running an emudash black series ecu, not the greatest of all time but it does a decent job and can provide essential data to my phone via bluetooth which actually works longer than 2 minutes sometimes lol. lovely car though, make sure to keep it.
I always thought the redline would stay at 9000rpm with a stroker kit. Would be much more fun at 9000rpm. If your ecu is doing the job, then no need to change/upgrade. I don't plan to ever sell my car. Going to do a full restoration soon. You must keep yours as well!
I'm running an import ecu (US Spec) on my car. With my original ecu, never had a problem. We haven't been able to remove the cel as yet - both tuner and mechanic has tried.
I used to have one. It was my pride and joy. Sold it after I bought my house. One of my biggest regrets in life, as they are now a collectors item.
The first manual car I drove was an S2000, changed my life. Never going to forget that moment
same here man. same here
My first manual car was 2006 Civic Si (FG2). I wish I could drive an S2000, one of my dream cars.
same bro
Not the best 1st car but cool anyways!
Ummm yes it probably is one of the best first cars that anyone could have. So yeah. Don't be one of those people. @Nickoboss29

How about rust? I heard that they're not rusting as much as other Honda's?

Love my Fk8. But miss the sound of my old S2k.
Fk8 is a beautiful car! The newer modern cars are very quick but they don't have the character of older cars like the S2000.
The classic high-revving Honda engines will be missed including the Civic, Integra and S2000

Turbo + VTEC Sound is perfect
It was naturally aspirated. There was no turbo.
Damn I need this in my life.
Hello nice s2000. Vtec compared other Hondas much better but with exhaust its amazing. I use to own Honda accord cf4 made only in japan. very good car
oh wow he went 90 mph
Smooth af
excellent
I was scammed all my life thinking that brians lancer was whit original sound 😂
Haha myself as well 😂 even Johnny Tran's S2000, they used the sound from an Integra.
Colonna sonora da oscar 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍
thats fucking insane. next gear rpm starts at most other cars' redline lmao
Bro I would check that engine light first before hitting Vtec
Yea I hate seeing people tearing these engines up. It's probably an oil issue since it's happening when the vtec solenoid activates

90 percent of the time it’s a emissions code who cares
