    The Sleeveens (Nashville TN)
A Sleeveen is a person of questionable intentions and flexible moral compass - it's an informal term used in Ireland - It derived from the Irish word 'Slìbhìnn' which translates as 'Trickster'
The group came together by accident. Producer and Bassist James Mechan and Songwriter Stef Murphy had a studio session pencilled in which Stef was going to work on some introspective solo material. The Pair had met each other on tour in late 2019 just before the pandemic hit. It was suggested that two of Mechans friends Ryan Sweeney and Eli Steel (Drums and Guitar Respectively) come along to see what they might add to some of the tunes. Murphy (originally from Dublin Ireland) welcomed the idea. The quartet worked for a full day which resulted in a sound and an energy that kind of deserved its own platform. 2 songs were recorded in that session, after spending a few days with the tunes, Stef contacted all involved to see if they wanted to make more songs and try to be a band.
A few months and about two dozen shows later The Sleeveens are sitting on a full length debut album and are getting ready to release those first two songs Give My Regards To The Dancing Girls and Small Talk With Jonathan as a debut 7" inch on Nashville based punk label Sweet Time Records. A campaign of regional release gigs will take place over the summer to celebrate that. Simultaneously the band are working on release and touring options both in the US and overseas for an album release campaign in early 2024.
It's not always accurate to judge a band by their choice of cover versions. However, since the group started accepting gigs when they had less than 5 songs written, homage was paid in the live show to Jim Carroll Band, The Undertones, Stooges, Slade and the mighty Ramones. If you mash all that together and add in a bit of sardonic commentary on the modern world it's a fairly decent indication of what you might experience at a Sleeveens xgig.
