Muscle pressure during sleep can cause several types of pain. Tight neck and shoulder muscles can cause a tension headache, while tight skin muscle can cause tingling, pain, and weakness in the arms.

Started hanging and doing pull ups months ago with gymnastic rings in the garage. Most if not all of my shoulder and neck pain has gone away. Can’t stress enough how much your back and shoulders need pull ups to stay strong and stretch all those muscles. I’m still not that good but the point is getting up there and hanging for as long as you can.

I injured my shoulder, and found that hanging provided *some* relief. But, because I had been doing a ton of physical labor that uses the muscles involved in internal rotation of the shoulder, I still had impingement and pain. I thought I was helping myself by doing a lot of pull-ups, but I recently learned that where the lat attaches, it can pull the ball at the top of the humerus forward in the socket in the shoulder, leading impingement. Once I learned that, I added dumbbell pullovers across a flat bench to stretch my lats hard enough to allow the ball to sit in the socket as it should, eliminating the impingement and the pain.

Thank you very very much! I got two torn rotor cuffs, I had surgery on my left shoulder 4 years ago and I tore it loose again. I did exactly what you said to do . I put a bar up in my barn to do pull-ups like you suggested. Boy oh boy did that hurt. I could feel it pulling all the way down from my rib cage. By the time it took me to walk from my barn to my house, it was pretty much instant satisfaction. My doctors been having me go to therapy for over a year. I have not seen no improvement through the therapy. They're getting ready to send me to a pain management specialist but I don't like pills. It's amazing how your idea worked. My doctor's not going to like you now he's going to lose a lot a lot a lot of money. I cannot thank you enough sir I hope you have a wonderful day . I now subscribe to your channel . Thank you. I've had a history of severe neck pain (80% right sided) that used to start shortly after waking and would last 3/4 of the day. Then it dawned on me that it was from my usual sleep position - on my stomach with my neck twisted to the right and my left cheek resting on the pillow. That meant my neck was twisted hard to the right for almost 8 hours every night! For me it was ALL in the way I slept. When I changed to sleeping on my back, the neck pain problem IMMEDIATELY stopped.

Dr Berg, I had this shoulder pain for years and when I started the Keto diet some years back , it just vanished. Afterwards, I took it easy and I went back to a low carb diet and occasionally indulged in some high carb foods. The shoulder pain came right back and it was always accompanied by a pain below the rib cage.
Until now I was thinking that the shoulder pain affected the stomach. Now I think you are absolutely right that it is the other way around.
I have now reverted back to keto diet with IF for last two weeks. So far no shoulder pain from last week onwards. Will keep a watch on this carefully. Thanks a ton for this tip.

My fingers also wiggled. I could not feel my right hand when I tried to control my left arm. It lasted about a minute. After that I began to have shoulder pain so bad that I was unable to move my arm in any direction. It can last a few hours to a few days then it will go away. Since then, it comes and goes like I am being attacked. I have been trying some of the exercises suggested. I am so glad I found this article. I will try this and will let you know how if it helped.

When I eat high carbs mainly breads pastas … I end up with what they said I had “fibromyalgia” I know it’s linked to my diet . This was so eye opening … I had linked this to my diet years ago and you mention this to a doctor they kind of look at you sideways .
Diet is key to every ailment

I have been having shoulder pain but on the left side, my Pt said I have frozen shoulder. So would hanging myself helps my shoulder too Dr Berg?. I used to lay on my side, but for the last 15 years I trained myself to lay flat on my back. Is that a best position? Should I continue doing that Dr Berg?

Hi ZaZa, I have frozen shoulder now, its been a little over 3 months now and it's finally thawing out. It's extremely painful, I can't lift my left arm higher than my shoulder. 2 weeks ago I could barely lift my arm. If you can lift your arm up that's amazing. There are physical therapists on utube who can explain what and how to help with frozen shoulder. I wish you safe and healthy days ahead.

A couple of years ago I injured my lower back working out. No exercises or treatments were working so I bought a Teeter inversion bench/table. Not only did it fix my back but I discoverd that hanging for 15-20 minutes a few times a week did wonders for my shoulder pain. When I stopped the pain returned. My shoulder pain was due to a combination of impingment (mainly from the way I sit and work) and years of wear from competitve sports. Highly recommend.

You might enjoy Inclined Bed Therapy. Andrew K Fletcher has site up by that name on details and science.
Free. Just raise head of bed 6 inches so whole thing is 5 degree slope!
Simpler in that it happens automatically while you sleep. It can take some time. My back is 75% better in 8 months. Whole spine self-adjusted on day 3. In 2 weeks, plantar fasciitis vanished. 1 month, no cold feet and no morning grogginess, great dreams, and best sleep of my life.
Some claim it even reverses alzheimers--I believe it because my memory is better too.

Dr Berg, I’ve been doing clean Keto for 8 months now and overall feeling amazing. I do however have deltoid pain in my left shoulder and thought it was my sleeping position because I’m a side sleeper. Is there another cause for this? Thank you

I snapped the supraspinatus tendon cleanly away from the humerus in 2018, and the idle time I had in the recovery time made it easy for me to start intermittent fasting, and low carbohydrate eating. By doing that, I went from receiving a poor prognosis of it healing, I was 52 at the time, and ever being functional again, to perfect recovery. I believe the fasting, especially, helped with healing. YES, those marine pull-up position stretches (I call them) are great relief of shoulder tension! I have had four different shoulder surgies and I seldom have pain or trouble with them nowadays.

I used to suffer the right-side shoulder pain that he describes. I started OMAD (one meal a day) and cut down on sugars and carbs dramatically on an intuitional basis to relieve other symptoms of metabolic syndrome I was suffering and the shoulder pain incidentally disappeared after a few months of such practice. It wasn't until after about 2 years of such practice that I discovered KETO and how my experience matched its health claims convincing me to constantly research and adopt KETO. Dr. Berg was the first to make me realize why my shoulder pain had disappeared when I had watched the video on the subject made prior to this one; it was probably the video he suggests at the end of this video. So, Dr. Berg's remedy worked for me.

Questions.... 1. WHAT DO YOU DO with stinging nettle root? Tea? Cook and eat? what? 2. I bought some vitamine D with K2 but only yesterday found another doctor talking about the different KINDS of K2 and how only one type is easy to absorb. (Which of course it not mine.) Can you address this? And exactly where to find the right kind?
    3. Lastly, I have had bouts which after my own self diagnosis is bursitis. Right shoulder, VERY painful and impossible to sleep in ANY position without some kind of pain pills which I hate taking. After watching this perhaps not, but in any case, that has always cleared up, until I took a spill and landed right on my right shoulder. Weeks ago now and it still hurts. (though getting better.) At the moment just raising that arm is very painful. I can do it but "hanging" from it is not in my immediate plans. Again I think this is from the fall and is getting better but should I push it and try stretching it now anyway? (Yes I know you can't see it, not gonna hold you to anything here. lol.)

This is so true. I went through a time when my right shoulder, neck, upper back was in so much pain that I could not sleep. I went to chiropractors, therapists, you name it. I was at the point of giving up. Luckily I found a naturopath, chiropractor and she diagnosed me, due to the location of pain, with gallbladder issues and liver. Dairy seemed to be a factor also. My neck was literally twisted. I felt immediate relief in a about a week with supplements for digestion, gallbladder. It was life changing for me.

You probably need 3 mg of Boron daily. That happenned to me. It is a mineral deficiency. We need it. People with ARTHRITIS should try supplementing with a minimum of 3mg of Boron..their arthritis pain will go away in most cases. To go to high...too fast after the 3mg will give you bone pain...so keep it at 3mg daily.
