One of my most favorite things to paint & draw…….clouds. So much beauty if we just look up. Thanks for sharing this lesson Susan. I always enjoy your videos so much. Have a wonderful weekend. God Bless.
Dear Susan, I’ve tried using my Senelier pastels but so far I’m not doing well with them. But I need to tell you your wonderful you tube videos have helped me so much with my acrylic paintings . I love working with under layers , and darker to lighter layers from bottom to top; also using unexpected wonderful colors as long as the values are right! It’s helped my acrylic paintings glow and pop. I still love the look of your beautiful pastel paintings and occasionally will try a pastel painting, but am loving what you taught me as applied to my acrylics. Thank you , and may dear Jesus continue to bless you , even as you bless others! God Is Good indeed!
Hi Susan! I used mixed media paper covered in clear Gesso for tooth. It’s what I had on hand at the time. That may have been the problem. Also I attempted your gorgeous dragonfly lesson and mine turned out poorly. It was muddy looking. But oh how I loved the ethereal look of yours! I still watch a lot of your posts for the sheer beauty of your work! I praise The Lord for everything He Is; for Jesus ;His salvation, His creation ; His Love and a billion other things!!! I treasure that your love for Christ comes flowing thru you . And you express it delightfully so.
I have always painted in acrylics, but find myself really loving the beautiful pigments found in pastels. My only wish is that pastel paper came in larger sizes, as I'm more inspired with larger formats. Pastelmat at 12x16" is the largest I can find. Would love to find 36x48" or at least 36x36" or 24x36". Love your videos too!
Hi Anne, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I actually have such a desire to paint large but unfortunately have a small studio and just don’t have the space. There are some pastel papers that you can buy and rolls. Uart is one of them. And as Susan Fischer mentioned I often create my own pesto service using clear gesso. You can either use mat board, watercolor paper, or any archival water friendly paper and coat it with clear gesso. There’s something about the clear gesso, not regular gesso, that has little bits of grain in it that makes a great sanded surface when dry. I often like to paint a beautiful underpainting first, let it dry, then add the clear gesso with a foam brush. And Tada!!… You have your own soft pastel surface. You might want to practice with smaller pieces first.
@@monetcafe thanks for the response. Would I need to buy acid-free mat board or will regular work fine? (I sell my art). Also, I saw in one of your videos on this subject, that you use Golden Fine Pumice Gel Medium. Is clear gesso the same thing? I would love to order the Uart roll, but don't have an extra $400+ lying around! Lol

I love to hear that Astrid. I find so many artistic principles work across many mediums. What surface are you using with the Sennelier pastels???

Susan has many videos where she shows coating a surface with clear gesso to provide a pastel surface.
@@susanfisher9751 thank you! I'll check that out!
