My hope is that this video will help me break free from the chains of "realism." How you manage to make this subject "come alive" is wonderful. Thank You so much.
I loved how your strokes were free and bold at the front of the painting and slowly became more subtle as the background receded until they were soft and blended in the very far distance.
It’s because of art work like this that I started experimenting with pastels. I love colour and vibrancy and literally searched for anything Monet on RUclips which is how I came to your channel. I’m not yet at the stage where I feel confident to do detailed work such as this and so I’m still working on single still subjects such as fruit. However, I am learning from your videos such as about having an underpainting and most importantly about having fun and enjoying the process. You’re so lovely, thank you for your videos 🌸
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us- watching you produce such beautiful works of art is truly inspiring for beginners like me. God bless x
YAY!! Thank you! @margaretparnham6195 Comments like this are part of why I do this. I love inspiring others, especially in their art journey! Thank you for your sweet comment!
This is beautiful. I did a large acrylic of it, but it lacks a lot, especially compared to yours. What you did with the pastels was so expressive with gorgeous variations. I enjoy your demos.
Absolutely Brilliant!!!!!. I would keep it too! Susan, you are a wonderful teacher and a lovely soul. You knocked it out of the park again! Brovo! 👏 ❤️
Susan you're so talented! Your love of colors comes shining through this painting. It's absolutely gorgeous and I don't blame your hubby for wanting to keep this one!
I am fascinated and enthralled by your work. Thanks to you, I am starting a collection of material that will hopefully allow me to create some beauty on paper, following your generous instruction. I really appreciate your guidance and helpful tips with what you do. Many thanks, and blessings to you. sincerely, Sammy
Susan, I found the Sennelier Paris Collection for $112 last night (MAY 13, 2023) on Jerry's Artarma!!! Scooped it right up! Hope I enjoy them, and hope I'm even one hundredth as talented as you!
Magnificent, as always. I can’t think of a better gift than Susan Jenkins painting on RUclips, except a Susan Jenkins original. Or two. Or three. Eventually a dozen. God bless you, always, friend. I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.
There’s so much darkness in the world. You are one of those points of light that President Bush (the first one) talked about in one of his speeches. Your art is just an expression of your heart, your Faith in Christ, and your family. And we are lucky to have you.
Susan, this is magical. And, one day when i am ready i will try hard on this one to emulate. I still am working on tree and flower studies because i want to improve. You inspire me truly.
I really like you provide the original photos, and show how to create a Beautiful art work out of a plain photo, step by step. The procedure is very creative and inspiring❤
I love the new teaching ...I think you can cover more technique in your style..Absolutely!! love the intensity of your color application..it givesnme more courage to increase my color application and not be afraid to give it a whirl...Thankyou Susan
@@monetcafe I love gouache!! It is such a forgiving medium! I’ve used many of your underpainting ideas. I have yet to attempt any of your paintings, but I love what underpainting does!!
First time watching one of ur tutorials and im blown away with the style and colours. I have only recently been trying pastels and have started with pan pastels and some student grade soft pastels. I now realise i need to invest in some better soft pastels, so I will start saving for those! Lol. Thanks for this wonderful tutorial, I will be watching many more. From New Zealand
I'm so glad you like it, Tracy! Better quality pastels makes such a difference. Also, using some sanded surfaces can really allow for more layering which is a real plus. Keep learning sweetheart.... and I'd love to visit your country!!
I am an oil painter and do some intaglio printing. I believe pastels will allow plein air and this is like my style. Thanks, very good. I see how pastels can be blended.
YAY!! Thank you! @user-iz8gd8cq4q Comments like this are part of why I do this. I love insiring others, especially in their art journey! Thank you for your sweet comment! If you haven't yet, come on over and share in the fun on my Patreon page!!!! www.patreon.com/susanjenkins
This is about the prettiest painting I have seen you do. The style sees a little different. I’m assuming it’s the new mark making. I can’t wait to ry it.
Thank you so much, Judith! And I love your profile picture. My sweet little Boston is my best friend. And yes, I do think this new style is what made the difference along with just getting crazy and bold with color. I feel like I had a little mini breakthrough. Have fun sweetheart.
I think this is my new favorite painting of yours! You always find a way to outdo yourself! I love the bright colors and the range of values you've managed to get with while still making the whole picture appear vibrant still. Im so excited to try this out now! Thank you so much for sharing
Absolutely FASCINATING! The two different styles are both beautiful and very inspiring. Just when I thought I had the first of your techniques down, you switch to another. Just another technique to learn and practice. I Can't thank you enough. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Hi Susan i have a question, how do you get your strokes with the side of pastel to be so precise? Like when i do it the strokes and lines are messy and too loose like in a bad way. Sometimes i think its bcause the pastel side isnt even? If so do you ever file it down to make the broad sidemore even? Thank you if you can help love your channel
Often I create an underpainting that has a complementary color to many of the colors in the ref image. Many landscapes have lots of green and blue, thus an orangey color is often nice. But sometimes I just tone something a crazy color and see what happens.... (like in my tutorial just before this one with a purple underpainting). :)
Strong vibrant - Hue's of color; full of energy and enthusiasm. A Dream State of mind, with lots of vibration coming out of this piece... I wonder what Vincent Van Gogh, was trying to tell us..? Perhaps we'll know one day. Is there something you-wish to tell us..? :)
My hope is that this video will help me break free from the chains of "realism." How you manage to make this subject "come alive" is wonderful. Thank You so much.
I loved how your strokes were free and bold at the front of the painting and slowly became more subtle as the background receded until they were soft and blended in the very far distance.
Thank you so much 😀 I appreciate that, Des!
The strokes and vibrancy in the foreground remind me of Van Gogh. The painting is lovely. You are lovely. Thank you for this lesson. ❤️
Oh what a lovely compliment. Thank you !!
I love this, it reminds me of a scene from a Studio Ghibli movie.
Wow. I was raised in California. It was like going back in time. You put the color to my memory. It is an emotional landscape with out words.
How wonderful to read your comment, Amber. Thank you!

It really does bloom like this in the California hills every year! In May we get Purple Lupin and orange poppies. It only lasts about 4 weeks.
It must be incredible in person!
I just love your tutorials! I don’t even use pastels, hut have implemented your techniques into my gouache endeavors.
Wonderful Rachel! I find many techniques work across different mediums. I actually like painting in gouache.
