if you put in an overflow you could link it to a drip tape in the tunnel.

Great job Jason. You might think about stringing several collection tanks together so instead of losing the water once your 55 gallon tank is full it fills up the next one. We have fourteen 2500 gallon tanks tied together and currently have over 30000 gallons in storage. Nice to water garden and take care of animals when the Texas heat and dry weather hits. Thanks for sharing your lives and keep the great videos and ideas coming.

I had a similar idea for rain collection off of a hoop house.
In my ‘vision’ the roll up sides would be brought up to form the gutter and it’d feed into a pit with a full sized barrel in it to catch the water...there would be a sump pump in the barrel with a float on/off that’d feed the collected water into elevated IBC totes that were connected together.

We're on public water (live just outside the city). Rain water is always better than public water!!! I put a large container to catch roof runoff...and was stunned at how quickly it filled up (15-20 quarts, I think). Now my hubby "gets it", and we're thinking about storing the water, ease of use etc. I love your smarts about taping plastic to get all the water into the gutter! Well done!

Use an overflow hole to fill another barrel, sitting on the ground or just low enough so the top of the barrel is below the overflow. Did you know that a hot house is just a huge survival technique used to recover water out of the ground in the desert? So you could rig it up to recover water daily, on the inside. Unless you open the sides or ends to reduce the temperature inside. :) Just tossing out ideas.

If you're interested in saving water, then why don't you use the garden tool shed? You could also do an ibc tote off the trailer house. Think of the pressure you would have running a house down the hill to the in ground garden. Just a few thoughts. Love your genius hack for the hoop house.

I use a very similar idea for my polytunnel/hoop house. But rather than build a stand I have cinder blocks, the 2, 25 gallon containers can with taps close to the bottom. Given we get lots of rain in northern Ireland it helps should we get drought weather....it also helps for water the plants inside the polytunnel
